Many people feel differently about chrysos heir and their influence over Amphoreus, but the facts remain undeniable; chrysos heir is necessary. And so, to show any gratitude, the community prepares a celebration.

You are dressed in their most flowy clothes as you stand near other brides, ready to be wed, and the nervousness eats at you like an eagle eating a titans liver. The women picked the best women for the heir, and you were dragged out of the comfort of your home to be here—and while it's not a general occurrence to have to take such mistreatment, it's not that general population is special like the heir is, either.

You've heard lots about Mydei, of his nature. They call him cruel.

The only kindness you've been given was one of the women informing you who you would be wed to. And you'd rather not know. Why not Aglaea? Why not Phainon?

The two young men entered the hall while bantering over something, and you had assumed they knew about all of this. Why would you be here otherwise? You clenched the white gowns in your hands as they looked over, you should feel honoured. And you should feel happy to be here.

Yet the bitterness in your chest was unmistakeable.

The ceremony was swift, merely a formality, before Mydei took you home. And you've long realised the tales weren't as true as they sounded. Mydei, once you arrived to his home, left you to your own devices.

And maybe you shouldn't be offended to be abandoned on your wedding night, and, well, all the nights that followed. But Mydei wasn't a bad person.

Something must've been wrong with you.

The part which brought you close wasn't a cliche of treating his wounds, or comforting him when he came home. It was when his exhausted self entered the kitchen after a long day of responsibilities, only to find you leaned over the counter, whisking something in a bowl. The flour was spread around, and the movements of your arm were hasty. You didn't notice him, you didn't look at him at all.

And Mydei didn't know how to feel about this, either. A sense of anger born from a strange feeling of affection, and he left the room before you could've realised.

The situation between you and Mydei escalated. It was all in his long gazes and off hand comments that to most would be dismissed as sarcasm.

But not you.

It was all in his little mannerisms and intricacies, and you found he was not only shy, but quite shielded as well. And if it wasn't for you taking all the steps forward, he'd linger in the background—but you were his wife.

Slowly but surely you took off his armour, one that he insisted on wearing even at home, exposing his emotional vulnerabilities as time passed on. Mydei allowed you to be close; never too close.

"You can't be serious" a scoff came from your lips, and he really did it this time. He knew it. But exposing himself to danger was something inevitable for a chrysos heir.

He knew he could die. That would hurt you.

His hand grasped your jaw, and he leaned that much closer to meet your height, his nose nearly poking yours.

"You're my wife, not my commander, nor my doctor.

super quick note on Mydei based on what we have so far from him & some spoilers about the titan Nikador

this is gonna be an amalgamation of lore and greek/roman analysis so forgive the jump between topics

Mydeimos seems to be just a conjugation of My with Deimos. Deimos is the greek god of Terror and twin of the god of Fear Phobos. In some iterations he's also the brother of Harmonia the goddess of Harmony. All these children are born from Ares and Aphrodite's union, but only the twins directly assist their father during battle.

this in itself goes along with the depicting of him being a fearsome warrior. his presentation text states that he is destined to suffer a thousand deaths and be bathed in blood towards his path home. we can speculate that this exile from his homeland may be due to the mentioned patricide in the beginning.

patricide in itself is something that's very present in greek mythology, be it for Zeus killing Cronus or Oedipus killing Laius, it's a recurring theme often used to overthrow a previous era and establish a new one. often these killings are destined and divined as warning to the parents who end up trying to trick destiny and ultimately fail. this trick is often either by exiling the son or hiding of the father themselves.

perhaps Mydei is a victim of these circumstances, as he seems to be fated to "become king" thus having to slay the current one. (i mean the text literally says he must slay a god to become one so...)

as for who the king might be. my closest bet is that it'll be his titan itself, Nikador.

and this is where the spoilers begin to those who haven't looked up the titan leaks so if you don't want spoilers leave now

Nikador seems to be the confirmed boss fight in 3.0

Nikador is a junction of Nike (victory) and Doron (gift) (there does other variations like Nikanor which means conqueror and Nikator which means victor). Nike is the goddess of Victory but also of Strife, thus the title of "strife titan" for Nikador

i don't think i need to go too in depth on who Nike was. Goddess of Victory, she's the one who attended to Zeus during the Titanomachy and ensured his victory over Cronus. Nikador's attacks are all related to the goddess with "Conquer or be conquered", "Strife granted fear" and "Savage and Mad God, Incarnation of Strife".

further in game text suggest the titan is undefeated and the true ruler of Castrum Kremnos (while Mydei is it's prince)

The king of Castrum Kremnos and of ruins, Grand Artisan of the war chariot, the throne upon a mountain of corpses, and father of victory, The usurper of glories, the lightning that split the sea, the Guardian of Amphoreus, The Titan of Strife, the Lance of Fury: Nikador. A general that all the world should heed, the eternal sharp sword, the law of Strife and of ending Strife. Praise Nikador, greatest of conquerors, greatest of guardians.

Mydei's introduction text suggests that the titan itself also obtained it's title via patricide and honestly, i wouldn't be surprise if this just ends up being a a repeating cycle within Kremnos as Amphoreus is the planet of remembrance (and it's shaped like a mobius stripe STAN LOONA AND YOU'LL KNOW WHY SHIT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN...)

anyways since this is the first titan we'll be fighting, it'd make sense to have it be the "victor" and protector of the realm. as they would be the first real obstacle before the rest.

the game also suggest that the true successor of Chrysos is Phainon, so it'd make sense to try to solve his true rival as quick as possible. Mydei may end up inheriting the flame of the titan and surrendering it to Phainon, as they don't necessarily need to die, they just need to surrender it. i'm saying this mainly because the leaked light cone suggests that the two of them are close, possibly Phainon gave shelter to the exiled Mydei while he's on his quest to return to Castrum Kremnos (btw Kremnos in itself just means slope, while Castrum is a latin word to designate buildings. mihoyo basically named the land "building on a slope" lmao)

as for the lion. Phobos sometimes is depicted as a lion, and since it's implied that Mydei is the sole surviving heir of Kremnos, it's possible the lion is there in place of the twin.

overall it's kinda funny putting Deimos against Nike cause in some depictions they are siblings (maybe Nike killed Ares in the game who knows!). if the game is following the theme of a repeating cycle, then this would be the equivalent of Heracles (Phainon) trying to overthrow Zeus (whoever is the current leader) but they're calling the gods titans so maybe it's just the Titanomachy but if the gods were titans instead of well, the actual titans.

A Greek Hero Tragedy (Spoilers for Mydei's backstory & Destiny Weaver's Missives)

well Mydei's backstory is heavily inspired on Perseus, having both been the hero's of the prophecy that would put an end to their father/grandfather's life. however in HSR they went a step further, making it even more tragic than it already is and showing their true understanding of Classical Pantheism Greece. I'm gonna start with a quick resume of Mydei's backstory to explain

I had already mentioned in the post before how patricide plays a huge part in Mydei's story and is something heavily present in greek myths as a way to end cycles and bring new eras. to kill the father is to kill the old order, which is often in decay, having the parent corrupted by madness or panic of having their throne/life ripped by their own blood. it's an antitheses to the nature of succession, as a father should wish their child to replace them and take the mantle from them so they can continue to prosper, but often these father's in myths wish for their reign to be eternal or everlasting. there's an arrogance at play that defies the natural order and thus is in conflict with fate, leading them to defy it but never succeeding in the feat.

according to the memories in Castrum Kremnos, King Eurypon ascended himself by killing the previous King, his own father. He mentions that it's tradition, something expected of the future heirs as they have to prove themselves worthy of becoming king. this contradicts what i've said before right? he seems to be well aware of his fate and he fully accepts it as it's tradition within their tribe.

well things changed with the prophecy

for the most part in the previous palace assembly (currently the arena entrance) we witness two instances of King Eurypon before the prophecy was foretold. the first one is where he met his wife, and Mydei's mother, Gorgo, who defied him in battle and proved herself his equal. because of this, he asks for her hand in marriage and they become King and Queen.

the second instance is past their marriage, Gorgo is already pregnant and they both are bestowing Kraterus with the title of Watcher of Warriors and giving him the mission to guard and train Mydei. it's here that we also discover how Eurypon ascended the throne and that he expects Mydei to follow in the same manner. however, Gorgo clearly does not wish for this to be their reality, as she has made Eurypon promise that this would not be how Mydei would ascend to the throne

it's not clear if the black tide was already present here or if it happened after, but at this point, after Mydei's birth, Eurypon receives a prophecy that says “Mydeimos will kill you, end Nikador's existence, and Kremnos' dynasty will fall at his hands." It's here where we start to see the shift from the King into a mad man. if we catch Kraterus memory before Eurypon's, he speaks on how the King attempted to end Mydei's life by casting him into the Sea of Souls as a baby. He also killed the Queen, weakening her with poison and slitting her throat in the arena before taking siege and starting to formulate the plan to make Nikador immortal.

Kraterus then leaves Kremnos in search of Mydei, as he kept his promise to them.

in a memory near the craft zone, we find Eurypon talking with a servant before the previous events. he has received the prophecy and the priest admonishes that he cannot escape his fate. still, he talks about his plan to kill Mydei before he grows and how he will kill his own wife if it prevents Nikador from falling. his speech however, does not seem maddened, more desperate. for Nikador has already fallen into madness by then, and Kremnos is already falling

it's here where we see how much he truly cared for his family, even if he resigned himself to kill them for the good of their tribe. he forbids the counsel from taking his wife's life, as he feels that he must be the one to do it. even if he has to make her weak beforehand so that he may succeed.

the only memory left is of his death. Kraterus begs Mydei to stay and take the throne but he refuses. Mydei has killed his father after 9 years of exile but instead, he insists on leaving for Okhema with their army as they are still under Aglaea's care. (btw it is implied that Mydei is still a child when this happens, even if the sprite we see is of his older self, both the memory and his own accounts of the events indicate that he was really young when this happened)

still Kraterus warns Mydei that he should not disappoint his people and his mother and eventually take the crown.

when we talk to Mydei again, we can ask him about the aftermath where he basically explains that they're temporarily dislocated but Okhema is not their home.

it's also here that we can give him a plaque in Kremonian for him to translate. the plaque is his mothers last letter to him (the fact that we kind of force Mydei to translate the letter from his own mother...that was so cruel hoyo WHY DID WE DO THIS). although he barely showcases his emotions, he still translates it to us and we're left with the Queens last thoughts before her death (again VERY CRUEL...VERY VERY CRUEL)

gonna give my personal opinion here, given what we know. I do think the prophecy weights on Mydei a lot. when we ask about his decision to let Phainon take the choreflame, he says that he feels that Phainon is the best suited for he is the perfect heir and he too, embodies the qualities of the Strife. but he also mentions he has his own personal resolve, that he asks us not to try to change.

personally i think it's due to the prophecy and his mother. Mydei was a baby when he last saw his parents and a child when he returned to his home. he grew up under the hand of Kraterus, who likely told him about his fathers lunacy, how he attempted to kill him, how he killed his own wife and how he's destined to kill him and inherit the crown. Still, the conversation he has with Kraterus in Kremnos suggests that he somehow knew his mother didn't intent for him to kill his father and personally, i think, that after we show him his mother's letter, it only confirmed his views further.

furthermore, he grew up already with a tainted reputation. he was scorned by his own people (the ones at the city not the ones who followed Kraterus), and the rumors of him being the threat to Nikador maybe also makes him reserved to take upon the flame. If he's truly destined to be the end of Kremnos, then there's no use fo him to stand as the demigod of Strife. he should succumb to his fate as the one who ends it all, letting the nation die with his refusal to take the crown and Phainon to become the demigod of Strife.

anyways this already by itself is a lot to take in right? well plot twist! there's even more!!! and this is where we see that Hoyo truly put their full attention to Greek literature and myths

if we start digging into the lore of Januspolis, there's a letter where their priestesses are discussing a change in the prophecies, even before the black tide.

they speak of ill omens, catastrophes descending upon Amphoreus as if "another world is knocking at our door". there's a few assumptions that this may be Zagreus doing, however the corrosion of the threads of fate could not be done by the titan themselves.

ultimately they discover that history itself is being rewritten and modified, having a singular entity slowly erased from it's records (i think we can guess who it was)

in their last latter, they end up surrendering to this change. advising each other to not believe any of the prophecies that have been divined and accepting that the end is inevitable but necessary for a new dawn.

as this was even before the black tide, it could be that the divination given to King Eurypon was one of the false prophesies that the priestess advise to ignore. and honestly, had Eurypon disregarded the prophecy, none of the games event would have unfolded and Nikador (while they would have remained maddened) would not have been made immortal and the people of Kremnos may have still had their city.

ultimately the tragedy lies on the King choosing to believe in faith instead of reason, something that is deeply explored in stoicism, that even though it tries to marry belief with reason, it ultimately declares reason above it when it comes to human affairs. and this would be a great segue way into Anaxagoras and Nous but we're not gonna delve into that here i yapped enough already

in short, Mydei needs therapy and fuck fake prophecies for dooming this guy since birth
