Good morning.  This is Ihsan Hines from MBKCares.  I hope you're doing well and enjoying peace. May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  Over the past few years I've been in a process to discover the path to improve my own mental health. It hasn't been easy but it's been worth it.  And along the way I've met some incredible people who are on their own journeys to healing.  Over the past year many black men faced adversity on high levels.  That adversity allowed opportunities to make room for healing. For some of us the healing process includes counseling, journaling, resting, healthy eating, meditation, reading, prayer and even medication. And each step requires patience and love. Black Men Heal @BlackMenHeal is a wonderful organization and they provide mental health resources that are relevant and powerful.  This week the MBKCares Wellness Wednesday discussion will feature two members of the Black Men Heal family.  Reginald Howard and Douglas Reed will join Eric Marsh Sr. and myself for an honest conversation.  We are looking forward to this discussion and we hope that you will join us. October 16th 2020. For the past week or so I've been anxious as this date was approaching. Two years ago from today I had a plan to take my own life. October 16th 2018 I found myself at rock bottom. I was emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually drained. By the grace of God I'm still alive. And I'm still on the path to healing. That wasn't the only time nor the last time that I've been in a dark place. Healing is an ongoing process. This week was very emotional for me while I was reflecting on the past two years. So much has changed. Some of it has been peaceful and some of it has been painful. However, all of it has been purposeful. If anyone out there finds yourself in a dark place please listen to me. You aren't alone!!! You aren't crazy!!! You are worthy of love!!! You are made for significance!!! Your life matters!!! You are loved by God!!! You have reasons to live!!! Your tears are not in vain... Your silent screams will become sweet whispers one day. Hold on my brothers and sisters. Hold on. And if you can't trace God's hand you can still trust God's heart. I'm living proof that there is life on the other side of through. You will get through. You will overcome. I'm on the journey with you. Let's live. I love you.
