Perhaps a Lev fan? 🥺

I am!!! Well, so far; I've only finished book one. But I found his arc fascinating, even though I was grimacing through some of it

Not in a bad way, though. I mean like when he went to that "Alaskan Pipeline." Head in hands no, Lev, those people don't care about you!! They're using you and your shattered faith/purpose has left you extremely vulnerable to manipulative group environments. And I know you don't care but you should!

Like what a tragedy he is!! Born to die and to die happy about it! He's never been a real person before, never had normal friends or a normal life. Everything was being a religious tithe, giving himself bodily. Of course he lashed out when that was all violently taken away.

And when Connor and Risa leave him at the school? GOD that fucks me up! He regretted it! He realized he was wrong and he tried to fix it and he couldn't. It was too late. He reached for them, cried out, but he'd pushed them too far away to hear. Can you imagine what if he hadn't...what if he'd gotten to them in time what if he'd apologized and gone with them....GODDDD

It kind of mirrors how he chases after Connor at the end, as Connor's being taken to the chop shop. He's running, screaming, trying to undo another huge mistake, but Connor can't hear him. Lev can't reach him before he's inside and the building blows. But this time it's not Lev reaching to save himself, he's reaching to try and save Connor. And so even though the building blows, even though he can't make it right, he's still there. He can help pick up the pieces.

Chapter 6- Lev and Connor

It was morning, Connor and Lev were walking to school together, like they usually do. Lev was suggesting different band names, since they’d yet to decide on one.

“Any ideas, Lev?”

Connor glanced over at Lev who shook his head no.

“Sorry, Connor. I ain’t got nothin’.”

Connor sighed in defeat “Let’s just hope the others have a name in mind.”

They continued to walk together in silence, Connor trying to come up with a name for their band while Lev was thinking of something else.

“Hey, Connor?”

Lev had spoke up, breaking the silence. “Yes, Lev?” Connor asked, raising a brow.

“So…I had this really strange dream last night…”

Connor raised both brows “Oh?”

Lev nodded “So you know how you like to smack me whenever I say something stupid?”

WHACK!

“Like that?” Connor asked, trying to hold in his laughter.

“Ow! Yes like that!” Lev rubbed the spot where Connor had hit him. “Anyways, so last night I dreamt that I had done something to seriously piss you off, I don’t remember what it was specifically, but it made you extremely pissed. So you took me somewhere strange after band practice, I didn’t know where we were at first but it was a warehouse of some sort. Suddenly you shoved me into a meat grinder! Like ruthlessly, you didn’t care! When I woke up I realized it was a dream- er, more like a nightmare, but it felt so real!”

Connor stared at Lev completely bewildered before bursting out into laughter “What! A meat grinder?! Lev, you are fucking hilarious!”

Lev groaned “I knew you’d laugh! Dammit, stop laughing at me! I was horrified!”

Connor’s laughter died down slightly “Jeez, I didn’t expect you to tell me THAT!”

Lev clenched his fists as they walked into the school, trying not to punch Connor because that wouldn’t end well. Connor was still chuckling every so often.

Throughout the course of the day, Connor would try tease Lev by saying something about meat grinders whenever he’d see him. Lev would have to shush Connor, who’d get a laugh out of it.

After the last bell of the day rung, Lev was heading to the music room for band practice, suddenly he felt a tap of his shoulder. He flinched and turned to see who it was.

“Miracolina!”

Miracolina stood behind him “Hey, Lev. Where are you heading?”

Lev turned to face her, clearing his throat “I’m heading to band practice. Wanna walk with me?”

“Sure.” Lev began walking down the hallway, Miracolina walking beside him. As they walked, they had some casual conversations about plans for the week, their families and how school was going. Lev was really enjoying getting a chance to talk to her, though she could be a jerk at times. Time flied and eventually her and Lev made it to the music room.

“I guess I’ve gotta go, Mira.”

“Yeah, good luck with band practice.”

“Thanks.”

They both stood there for a bit before Lev had somehow managed to bring up the courage to give her a little peck on the cheek. Miracolina’s cheeks tinted with a light pink flush, Lev scratched the back of his neck.

“I’ll see you later, Miracolina.”

“Mhm…bye Lev.”

With his mood brought up, he stepped into the music room where he’d find everyone else already there. Connor talked to Risa as she got out the pastries she baked, Cam was fixing his hair, Roland was tuning his guitar and Layton was eating watermelon. As soon as Lev closed the door, everyone looked up at him.

“Hey, Lev.” Risa smiled, setting down a plate of pastries.

“Took you long enough.” Roland said, Connor nodding in agreement. Those two would always bug and tease Lev for fun.

Layton snickered softly, shoving another piece of watermelon in her mouth.

Lev sat down over by his drum kit, picking up the sticks and drumming something. Connor smirked and spoke up.

“Hey, Lev. Whatcha playin’? Something about meat grinders?”

Suddenly immediately looked up from his drum kit, glaring at Connor.

“Dude! Shut up!”

“A meat grinder?” Cam had finished tidying up his hair and had walked over and sat in a chair next to Layton, who spoke up next.

“What’s wrong with a meat grinder? I mean, it’s random, yeah but why did Lev get so upset over it?”

Connor’s stupid smirk never left his face “Well, Lev told me earlier that he had a nightmare about me pushing him in one—“

“Shut up! No I did not!”

“Yeah, you did!”

Roland started laughing at the stupidity of that, Layton had to lean against Cam to hide that she was laughing so she didn’t seem rude, Cam couldn’t help but chuckle himself. Risa looked at Lev like she couldn’t believe what Connor just said.

“A nightmare about meat grinders?! That’s…new…” Risa was also trying not to laugh. Lev covered his face out of embarrassment, he wanted to kill Connor right there and then.

“Oh yeah?! W-Well at least I don’t have a crush on Risa!” Lev shouted out in defence. Connor immediately froze and glared at him. Risa gasped and nearly dropped the other container of snacks, Cam also looked astonished, his eyes widening in surprise. However, Layton wasn’t shocked at all, this was kinda obvious to her and she caught on quite fast. Roland didn’t really care either, he looked back down at his guitar and kept working on it.

“No, No I don’t!” Connor said defensively.

“You told me that one time we hung out after school!” Connor froze and mumbled to himself “shit…I shouldn’t have told you that!”

He turned to face Risa, who was still staring at him “Listen…Risa…” Connor didn’t know how to explain himself “What Lev said, is true.” Risa’s face flushed pink, Connor’s did too.

“I just didn’t know how to tell you.”

Connor scratched the back of his neck and smiled softly, Risa smiled back, her heart pounding like a hammer in her chest.

“Oh…I like you too…” She replied softly. Connor’s smile widened almost immediately, he went over to her and pulled her in for a kiss. Though it was sudden, Risa kissed back, practically melting into it.

Cam, Roland and Layton all watched this happen, Lev smiled “I didn’t expect that to work out between them.”

“I did.” Layton shoved another piece of watermelon into her mouth. “Saw that one coming from a mile away.”

Cam sighed and slumped in his seat, covering his face with his hands “I’m gonna be single forever, aren’t I?” Layton put a hand on his shoulder “You’ll find someone, me and Roland are in the same boat.” Roland glanced over at Layton, giving her a slight smile before nodding in agreement. “I don’t know about Lev though.”

Lev glanced up at Layton “don’t worry about it.” He said immediately, Layton giving him a suspicious glance.

Connor and Risa finally pulled away from the kiss, staring into each other’s eyes lovingly.

“Damn, this sure was an eventful practice…” Lev said, breaking the silence. “I agree, maybe we should get to actually practicing.” Cam picked up his bass.

“Yeah, I guess so.” Connor reluctantly moved away from Risa.

“Wait, Connor? Have you thought of any actual song lyrics?” Lev asked out of curiosity.

“Oh, I’m working on it. For now we’ll work on cover songs and once I finish some actual lyrics that you guys approve of, we can start working on a song.”

And so that’s how the rest of practice went, they worked on their cover song and afterwards they snacked on the pastries Risa had brought.

“Mmm, these are good! As per usual, obviously.” Layton said, shoving another cookie into her mouth. “Thanks Layton.”

As they ate, Connor sat there with an empty notebook page, he chewed on the edge of his pen while trying to think of lyrics of some sort. They had to be perfect, but what would it be about?

As he thought, Risa tapped his shoulder snapping him out of his focus.

“Connor, you want a cookie?”

“Yeah, sure…just busy with trying to think of lyrics.”

Risa hummed in understanding, Connor rested his hand on top of hers.

“I’m sure you’ll think of something soon, Con.”

Connor smiled “Yeah, hopefully.”
