I often use the hashtag #yogasavedmylife ....because back in early 2017 when I was trying to come to grips with the reality of anxiety and trying not to let the fear inside me consume me alive.... my first step to recovery was practicing yoga with consistency and commitment everyday. . . . 💙It was yoga that got me up in the morning and give me strength to face the day. 💙 It was yoga that gave me courage to do the "simple things" that scared me....💙it was yoga that brought calm & courage to my life when I felt like i was falling apart💙 . . . . Yes , there are so many other amazing elements that have helped me....like my TRE & EFT coach, my Kinesiologist, my friends and family....THE OCEAN💙, NATURE🌍 BEUATIFUL NATURE🌊! All these factors play an equal and pivotal role in my journey ....but it started with yoga because that was all I had with me in the times I felt most scared and alone. You see yoga is not just a physical practice there is so much more to it (that's why I hate this "weight loss" yoga fad...but that's for another day). . . . Every morning I would get onto my mat & start to gently move. It would calm my mind & ease my soul. It would ground me & bring strength to my spirit. . . . So yes, yoga has saved my life & gave me the courage & UNDERSTANDING to discover other forms of "therapy" that helps dissolve anxiety (i.e. NATURE, kinesiology, EFT, TRE, talking to loved ones) . . . Give it go! How could I relax, having my expansiveness exposed to a stranger, vulnerable for the time it takes for me to heal? What would it feel like, seeing my body out in the open like that? Then I remembered the woman I want to be, the woman I am, who accepts her body as it is and is the most comfortable she's ever been in it. Even if the scale is high and the odds are low, I want to live in a world where I am able to love and accept my body fully. All I can really do is react to what I've experienced & seen personally. What I have seen is a society that, politically, doesn't give a shit about me. My body doesn't matter to them, my feelings don't matter to them, they are not interested in giving me any tools to cope, or excel. They show me this through appointing new Justices, letting people like Brock Turner keep participating in the society I live in, & letting the President of the United States continue to do his 'job'. All wile ignorantly speaking about it on the news cycle over and over and over, and when any female pipes up about something she actually knows a lot about, belittling the shit out of her in front of everyone. I'm a survivor of violence, and violation to my body. It's really hard for me to watch tv, listen to social commentary, & be on social media when we pull up all this evidence over and over and over again. I hate to be cynical and go 'welp, don't know why any one is surprised by this' but it's how I feel. It makes my day to day harder because I feel irrationally unsafe walking around in the world when we amplify this. But we should be amplifying things like this because I also see people who DO care about how I feel and WANT me to have tools to cope and excel. I want to be heard more than anything. A lot of people do, so it means everything to me when people do speak up, or do go 'this is wrong' even though it feels so futile. It's where I gained the strength to try to be one of those people myself, even if on a small scale. I know other people feel like me and I'm not scared to just say how I feel anymore. If you're angry, scared, or dealing with your own experience, I know you, cz sometimes I am you. It's a real shame when people in power want to maintain the status quo and take and take. But we have a lot more power than before in being able to create communities for ourselves.
