It's not about the right to serve, it's about the right to survive. Liberals calling trans rights "a distraction from bigger issues" is just as bad as conservatives calling trans people a burden.

Read this Wikipedia list. Say their names out loud. And remember that it's not about being allowed into our (highly problematic) military, it's about our laws and society saying that trans people are burdens who deserve to be treated as such. So don't fight for trans people's right to serve, fight for their right to survive.

"Do you mind if I put needles in your stomach?" my acupuncturist asked and for a split second I almost said no. What would she think of my fat rolls, as they curve in on themselves, touching? How could I relax, having my expansiveness exposed to a stranger, vulnerable for the time it takes for me to heal? What would it feel like, seeing my body out in the open like that? Then I remembered the woman I want to be, the woman I am, who accepts her body as it is and is the most comfortable she's ever been in it. Even if the scale is high and the odds are low, I want to live in a world where I am able to love and accept my body fully.
