Mình đã đọc ở đâu đó rằng cuộc đời của mỗi con người sẽ trải qua những “Chu kỳ 7 năm”, từ thời thơ ấu đến khi lớn lên, trưởng thành và lão hóa. Cứ mỗi chu kỳ 7 năm ấy, thân thể và tâm trí chúng ta lại trải qua một cuộc khủng hoảng và được đổi mới hoàn toàn. Mình cũng đang bắt đầu một-chu-kỳ-7-năm-mới như thế với nhiều suy nghĩ và cách nhìn nhận vấn đề chân thực và mới mẻ hơn.

Mọi thứ xuất hiện trên thế gian này rồi cũng sẽ tuân theo quy luật “Thành, trụ, hoại, không”. Hiểu được điều đó thì bản thân cũng sẽ buông bỏ được những chấp niệm trong lòng, cuối cùng thì cũng có thể để lại những nỗi đau của ngày hôm qua để nhẹ gánh trên con đường tương lai phía trước.

Paladin part 6. My Beginning. Ra.

I am Ranaldo, only son of Ranaldo and Illa. My family was part of the vampire aristocracy known as the Glymera. I had a sister named Lily but she past unto the Fade during her transition. She was 25 and I miss her everyday. She was the only worthwhile thing in our whole house. She played the piano masterfully and always knew how to soothe my savage beast. She attended University in Caldwell and got her degree in music, her intention was to become a therapist using music.

"After all," she used to say, *"we vampires need mental healing too. Like it or not." Then she'd laugh and play the piano louder, making sure windows were open so neighbors could hear the sounds.

The night she passed father simply said, "At least my son was strong enough to survive the transition." That was the night I took a couple million from my father's safe, started calling myself Ra, and left home forever . Never saw or talked to them again until they died. When they passed unto the Fade, I threw the light onto their pyres and walked away. I didn't give a shit about anything but making sure they burned.

Imagine my surprise when I found out I was still the beneficiary of all their worldly goods. Sold the house, gave the profits to the doggen (servants). Gave half the remaining money to the University in Caldwell's music department. My sister would appreciate that, she loved that place. I had been a lawyer, with my father's firm, but that was his dream not mine. So, when I left the family I spent many years traveling, breaking hearts, and just learning more about the world and things I enjoyed. Then, I got bored, money got a bit tight and I knew it was time to come back and chase a more secure dream. However, I decided to chase this dream in Charleston rather than Caldwell. I wanted nothing to do with that town ever again.

My dream? I wanted to have a bar/nightclub. I liked the idea of serving simple foods while people listened to good music. A piano bar just seemed fitting after a lot of thought. I couldn't heal people like Lily might have been able to with her music, but maybe I could use it to soothe some souls, even if just my own. So now my bar, named Ra's Place, has been open for thirty years and is very popular, mostly with the race, but we do get humans in occasionally too. I'm proud of it and it feels good to finally have my dream realized. I also started feeding the needy that would come to hide in my alleyway. I also started getting good at learning information that could help or hinder our vamp community. Never really meant to, but now, I encourage talk and even let some bastards into my place to do business just so I can get information to pass on.

If you wonder who I pass information on to...her name is Twila. She seems to have ins with several big deals in the community because whatever I tell her seems to get handled. How she and I met is a story for another time. Let's just say it wasn't smooth sailing to get to where we are now.
