Morning watercolor and marker "doodles" in my art journal. It was about how women are being treated in Port Moresby, papua, New Guinea. It was very appalling and disturbing. When I tell people I’m a feminist (someone who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes) they ask what inequality are you really experiencing. My reason for being a feminist is not solely based on personal experiences, it’s based on the fact that we who live in developed countries may view things like mansplaining as something that is not as severe. So we turn a blind eye on our sisters in other countries living in fear just because of their gender. When people hear the word feminist, they never take into account the bigger picture. My feminism goes beyond the country I reside in. We all need to remember that we are citizens of the world before anything. So here’s to all the people fighting for women in these countries where they don’t have a voice.
