know time

we count it

ticks of a clock

beats of a heart

only the living do this

only the living grow dizzy

with the spin of the Earth

only the living fear

the setting of the sun

only the living attempt

to capture time

to hoard it

we wrap the sands

in glass

flipping them over

and over

watching each grain fall

making them dance

to our rhythm

knowing full well that

that it is we who are dancing

and that every step brings

the closer

the end of song

only the living

know time

with each breath we remember

our mortality

we breathe in the future

we exhale the past

but the present

the present

we hold within us

for just

the briefest of moments

the fall of a grain of sand

the setting of the sun

the beat of a heart

and it is gone

i am in a cavern. a cave. a cave of madness. pillars of living bone stretch to the ceiling. pathways lead out and in. up and down. there is no difference. no order. everything is screaming. bodies turn to bone turn to stone and all back again blending. all of it archways. columns. road and walls. all of it is twisting and straining. all of it is alive and screaming. all if it wants out. i want out.
