How I feel about this character: LOVE OF MY LIFE!!! from the moment I first saw her in s3 I knew I would be weirdly obsessed with her. aside from both actresses being extremely gorgeous, I just think she's a really fascinating character??? like name another character so devoted to their cause and dedicated to their con...also an evil woman taking advantage of my favorite character? hell yeah.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: sam!!!! though I don't know if I enjoy them as a traditional romantic pairing...mostly they're just fun to psychoanalyze and put in fucked up situations. she made herself his mother mary you guys!! also dean...I think her being one of his mirrors means they should fuck. also anna...and meg...and ava in an alternate universe where she won the special kids hunger games <3
My non-romantic OTP for this character: oh wait I should put dean here bc I don't ship them ship them, they should just be hostile and horny about it together <3
My unpopular opinion about this character: okay so I think I'm too much of a fandom newb to answer this bc I don't know the popular opinion about her. I know the fandom circle I'm in loves her and also doesn't view her relationship with sam through rose tinted glasses soo....yeah, sorry I've got nothing
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: mostly I really wished we could have seen an alternate version of s5 where she lived. just to see her dynamic with lucifer and if she would have remained loyal to him till the end. also I think her and meg would have been really good foils of each other smh
give me a character and I'll break their ass down

Okay, there are things I like about both of these episodes, but my most intense reaction is "NOT ANOTHER TIME SKIP." This is one of those times that makes me really miss Kripke, since he didn't skip or compress time much beyond what the hiatus dictated, and the dialogue contains little comments to indicate that substantial in-universe time has passed between episodes. Gamble and Carver both kicked off their eras by skipping a whole year, never addressing it, and having all the in-universe dates roughly line up with episode airdates. It isn't the show's worst offense against logic, but it could've been easily avoided/fixed, so: Why??? /end rant/
Moving on... I actually do, mostly, like both of these episodes, I just get salty about wasted potential. I'm of the unpopular opinions that 1) moving on is an acceptable thing for Sam to do under the circumstances; and 2) that in his current frame of mind, he wouldn't be drawn to anybody who wasn't kinda messed up. Amelia has a prickly personality that kinda reminds me of Dean, TBH, and also of Ruby, albeit without all of their secrets. So I don't object to our flashbacks that we get here. (I do object to the flashbacks we get in later episodes, where Sam is successfully flying under the radar while living in a regular ol' house in Kermit, and where a legally-dead person reappearing doesn't raise any alarms for a Winchester-- but I don't think that anything about this episode makes that nonsense inevitable.)
I also like the addition of Benny. Making him a vampire works especially well, because we saw Dean's genuine, more-than-just-business hatred for vampires on full display way back in season 2's "Bloodlust"; it feels visceral in a way that his hatred of ghosts or even demons doesn't. Making him ally with a vampire could've seemed ridiculous, but it feels necessary and poignant. The overhead camera work helps sell it, as Dean and Benny circle each other with their faces only intermittently appearing onscreen. Each of them is both predator and prey, on top of which there's... Grudging respect? Unbearable loneliness? Just need, being possibly the only two people who can help one other get back to Earth? It's complicated, and interesting. I guess this time, Dean gets a Ruby, too.
Kevin's leveled up, but in a good way, not a story-breaking Mary Sue way. He's learned to make the most of limited resources: Water guns, holy water, abandoned consecrated ground. You can understand why, as he fights with what little he has, he resents an experienced hunter like Sam for not trying to find him.
What he hasn't done is learn to use a decent VPN; I feel like someone on Crowley's team should've done the same calculations that Sam did. I'm taking off a few points for that. Still, Kevin remains one of the most sympathetic of the series' recurring characters, and his fate feels almost as important as his bombshell about the demon tablet.
Overall... Hm. I miss Meg and Dick, who provided most of the spice in season 7's otherwise-bland second half; however, this show tends to ruin side characters who stick around too long, so maybe it's for the best. However, the Hell trials are among my favorite arcs, the best since season 4 and, alas, the best we'll see from here on out. That sounds like enough to give "We need to Talk About Kevin" the edge.
Supernatural Battle of the Episodes!!
Looks like Born-Again Identity swept its way through the rest of Season 7!! Can it power through the beginning of Season 8?
Bring 'em on out!
Chuck: Next up is the Season 8 Premiere, We Need To Talk About Kevin: Dean comes back from Purgatory with a new secret buddy and Sam has beautiful hair and leaves his bitchy girlfriend! A wonderful brohug commences just before the drama starts when Sam tells Dean he thought he was dead and didn't look for him! Also no one pays attention to the Kevin part 🙄

i cant find the post but that post that said take two female characters who never met and ship them. and my ship would be amara/billie. other femslash spn ships that rule since i’m thinking about it, in mostly chronological order:
jo/meg the OG hunter/demon femslash ship
bela/meg because duh
RUBY/LILITH i nearly forgot
ruby/anna because DUUHHHH classic pair-ups
sam/ruby but sam’s a lesbian and ruby’s a good guy. i have mixed feelings about sam and gender which i cant get into tonight. maybe tomorrow. maybe never bc no one cares and i dont want to be a buzzkill. but i’m into this concept specifically
meg/charlie, cannot BELIEVE we were hatecrimed out of this. it’d be a little weird bc even though meg is charlie’s type charlie isn’t meg’s type necessarily but it would totally happen as a fling
is hester/anna incest? well whatever
abaddon/bela would be fun and sexy
abaddon/meg would be more fun and more sexy bc i like meg better. sorry bela
obviously dorothy/charlie should have been canon
meg/rowena because i like shipping meg with everyone
amara/rowena bc amara is canonically gay bc i said so
amara/billie AS I SAID even though they never, tragically, spoke in canon. billie would take exactly 0 of amara’s navel-gazing
billie/tessa even tho it’s unprofessional and ur not supposed to sleep w/ ur boss
billie/mary because death loves a winchester
jody/mary because those are deans moms and i have mixed feelings abt donna
jody/donna, even despite my mixed feelings, bc theyre basically canon
claire/kaia even though i have mixed feelings about canon claire
billie/rowena because HELLOOOO did we all watch 13.19
rowena/charlie which is canon as far as steve yockey is concerned which is good enough for me
ruby/anael for the sheer novelty of it
that’s 21 pairings so i think this concludes my list. thank you
