PINK SQUAD (BRIAR BEAUTY, CHARICLO.A CUPID AND HOPPER CROAKINGTON II) + FAYBELLE THORN REDESIGN.
(Since I don't usually post art with as many characters, I'm going to keep the text here a bit shorter than usual, although I can expand more on what is said here in future art of these characters, so don't worry about it)
My version of Briar is a girl dead set on living life to it's fullest, loudest and most extreme potential, wether it be throwing the most page-ripping rager of a party or trying her hand in a million different activities and extracurriculars (with a particular penchant for extreme sports) before her 18th birthday comes to pass and she falls into an enchanted, century long sleep. But due to recent "developments", she's found herself with a lot more time on her hands than she thought, and she's trying to figure out what to do with it all...
Briars monster form is a Zombie (Inspired by @cauliflowerfannr1 own Zombie Briar design) and whose decomposing body causes her, like various other undead monsters to use mobility aids for ease of movement.
My version of Faybelle has always been a studious, competitive and ever so prickly sort of fairy and an avid student in the art of evil, always with something to prove regardless of whether it concerned fae's role's reputation as "second best" to that of the evil queen,or the wing disability rendering her unable to fly. Lately however, recent "events" have lead to Faybelle taking up a very different and unexpected role as the partner of faers long-time fenemy Briar!
Faybelles monster form is a dragonfly monster (think akin to the giant bugs that terrorised 50s monster movies)
My version of Cupid (or Chariclo as she prefers to be called) is a girl who more than anything has always wanted a family regardless of the form it takes, stemming from the nagging feeling of solitude that comes with being the only monster of your species you've ever known. Having been separated from her friends and chosen family at ever after high through divine circumstances, she's elated to have them back in her life and able to meet the family she's found at Monster high in turn.
Chariclo, as previously mentioned, is a species of unknown monster, a centaurlike species with translucent skin, and powers that involve and affect her and others emotions.
My version of Hopper, far from the skeevy antics of his g1 counterpart is a prince and a gentleman through and through, eloquent and insistent on being "proper" to the point most of his classmates see him as too effiete and uptight to bother hanging out with bar surprisingly (or not if you know their history as friends) Briar and Cupid.
Hoppers monster form is a Kappa, an aquatic yokai known for politeness and a love of cucumber.
Hope you like this art, likes and reblogs are appreciated.

LoL Chapter 29- Fae Magic
Masterpost
A Wizard Hermits tale (AU, designs, ideas belongs to @theguardiansofredland)
BDubs and Stress take a trip to the eternal spring fields in eastern Lairyon, where they face lighthearted trouble and grim fates.
________________________________________
“Oh! That tingles.” BDubs giggles, feeling the hot, dry heat turn into a comforting warm breeze upon entering the magical barrier. Wet, damp air hanging with droplets soaking in the warm sun rays, clinging to the vibrant flowers and trees that turn the enchanted forest into a painting. Eternal spring among the Flowerfruit Fields, petals and berries of rare specimens growing in the wild space. Pink and green grow from the collapsed buildings, vines laden with fruit creeping down the roof. The vines and bushes overflow onto the thin green pathways of the roads and walking trails.
It’s the fruit and herbs that Stress and BDubs are here for. If they hope to face Dolios, and to help their friends ward off the darkness that attacks them, they need an antidote for dark magic. Stress thinks she found a potion that could reverse any ill effects- if administered in time. Unfortunate for the hermits, the ingredients are rare and unusual. No apothecary she visited had the ingredients she needed. Most they never even heard of.
But if there’s one place she could find the ingredients, it was here in the fields. Foraging among neon green leaves and plump blue fruit. And if there’s one hermit that knows what weed is what, it would be BDubs- resident plant mage. And already, he’s like a kid in a candy store. “Amazing, I thought the starflower went extinct eons ago! Oh, is that a kipling scale vine? Absolutely incredible, stunning.”
Stress snorts back a laugh. “How do you keep all that information in yer head?”
“By removing non-important info, like how not to yell, or all my maths I learned in school. A-and names. If they aren’t a hermit, I don’t remember.” BDubs springs to his feet, grabbing the parchment of paper while Stress escapes the heat of her robes. It’s a little much, the fuzzy wool and thick fleece. She wraps the sleeves around her waist, revealing pale, toned arms and a bright pink undershirt. “Alright, what’s on the shopping list for today?”
Together, the two forage across the field. Stress plucks leaves that BDubs points out, bags fruit that she remembers from the potion book, but no matter how long they searched, they could not find the rarest, most elusive ingredient of all- dragonfruit. Though BDubs has heard of the unique plant, he has no clue how it grows. Is it a vine plant, like a melon? Or perhaps arboreal, or bushgrown. After stabbing himself on the thorns of an estenberry bush, for the fifth time, he snarls defeat.
“Aww, don’t give us that attitude, BDubs. We’ve been at this fer ages, it’s okay if we take a break.” Stress gazes at the sky, the sun already setting. They arrived here this morning, but all day among the fields has eaten up their daylight. A cold breeze nips at her nose, inviting her to set up camp.
“No, I’m not stopping until this job is done!” He plunges his hands into a patch of star flowers, hoping that maybe he’ll find something in there. Instead, he feels the sensation of something cool but energetic running along the tips of his nails. The sound of bells rings in his ears.
And Stress smacks her forehead, so hard that her pale skin turns as red as a Fi fruit. “The fair folk! Of course! They created the Flowerfruit fields, surely they’d know where we can find one of them dragonfruit!”
BDubs snorts, brushing dirt from his fingers. “You actually believe in faeries? What are you, twelve?”
“Would you-!” Stress claps her hand over his mouth, glancing from side to side, then glaring him down. “Of course they’re real, BDubs. What, you tellin’ me you’ll believe in dragons and plant monsters, but the other kind are too far outta the realm of belief?”
The plant mage only nods his head, glancing around at the evening field. Fireflies dance in the blue night sky, and bunnies hop across the trails, from fruit to fruit in search of their next meal. He sighs, backing away. If there’s one thing he learned, it’s best not to trifle with any of the girls. Cleo and False could run him through with their blades if he crosses them- which, admittedly, takes a lot to do. But he’s also the master of annoying people. Stress however… she needs no weapon to make an impact. “Alright, we’ll look for your faerie friends, if you think it’ll help.”
Stress’s smile is worth backing down on this argument. Seeing his friends happy is what he loves to see most. BDubs follows the ice blue trail of her robe into a thicket of trees, dancing around the rare and exquisite herbs growing at his feet. He can hear the sound of bells ringing in his ears, soft and sweet, just at the cusp of sounding like voices and laughter. Some of the dancing fireflies cast shadows that look bipedal, but he chalks it all up to his weary body. Stress and him had been traveling for days to arrive here, only to jump right into searching for ingredients. Ingredients that now swing in pouches and vials on his and Stress’s waist.
All except for this ridiculous dragonfruit. He can’t help but grumble to himself as he follows Stress. Why would a dragon even want fruit? Are they omnivores? It sure didn’t seem like it at the championship. Do they grow them, is that why? What he wouldn’t give to see a massive dragon tending to a tiny dragonfruit plant, tilling the soil and watering it at the mouth of their caves.
BDubs is yanked out of his own thoughts, Stress grabbing him by the arm and nearly throwing him into the mossy grass at her feet. He’s about to whine about the rough takedown, but she falls to the floor next to him. “Look!”
The two peer through ivy and bushes. Before their eyes, mushrooms and toadstools grow and glow in the moonlight. Pink flowers of cherry blossom trees sway, petals falling to the verdant floor in a storm of rose. Fireflies dim to reveal the festivities inside the ring. Dozens of fae, dancing with bare feet across the soft moss. Their laughter sounds like tiny bells, harps and pipes filling the air as if it were a human orchestra. No matter their tiny size, the music rose well beyond the center of their festivities.
Stress reminds herself it’s rude to eavesdrop. She crawls through the bush, about as unlady-like as she can get, but announces her arrival. “Hello, fair folk!”
The fae rise on dragonfly wings, an aura of light following them as they dance upon glitters and gusts. They bow and welcome Stress to the Flowerfruit Fields, though the music grinds to a halt and the glimmers turn red. Stress realizes what’s wrong, and elbows BDubs in the stomach. Hard. “Ow! Alright, Hello, other kind or whatever.”
“Don’t ruin this, be polite.” She growls under her breath, amber eyes turning icey. “Just...follow my lead.” Stress turns away, walking into the clearing. Careful to avoid stepping within the faerie circle. “I’m the Ice Mage, and that’s the Plant Mage.”
“My name is-” BDubs howls as a heavy snowboot lands on the arch of his foot. “Yep, that’s me, the Plant Mage.”
A young faerie, hair a dark halo of curls bouncing against deep hued skin. Pink petals stitch into clothing, a smile for jewelry and raindrops for gems. “Welcome, mortal mages! For what reason do you enter our forest? Do you wish to join in our celebrations? Perhaps you would like some food?”
At least this time, BDubs waits for Stress to tell him no. They do not enter the faerie circle, nor do they accept the food. “Actually, we’ve been lookin’ fer something all day long, and if there was anyone who would know where to find the final ingredient to our list, it would be the very people that created these fields.”
Just like BDubs, fae like their egos stroked. The fae accept the kind comments, a few playing with Stress’s short brown locks. BDubs steps away, unwelcome to the idea of tiny, glittery creatures touching him in any way. “Of course, we would love to show you our wonderful creation. Eternal spring, the time of birth and celebration!”
The faerie attempts to lead Stress into the circle, but she’s too clever to be caught in their trap. She’s a woman raised in high society- she can sniff out trouble a mile away. “We searched all day, but could not find the last ingredient we need.”
“A dragonfruit.” BDubs finishes, wringing his hands. If he gets his hands on the seeds of this rare plant, he’ll propagate it in his own jungle garden, until no one ever has to stick their hands in a fi fruit bush ever again in search. The fae around him titter, and he catches only snippets of the gossip and conversations around him. Something about the rarity of the fruit, the tender care needed, like it was a jewel or child. How much time it took for the fae to find one. He sneers, turning his back on the petite party. “Forget it, they don’t have the ingredient Stress. They just want to force us into their weird little realm they’ve got.”
“BDu- Plant Mage!” Stress claps her hand over her mouth. He said her name. Not her full name, thankfully, but it’s one piece to the puzzle the fae could use in their tricks. She turns back, kneeling to the tiny troublemakers. She has to pick her words carefully. “Please ignore my ignorant friend, he didn’t mean what he said. Your help is greatly appreciated from me, and my appreciation spans to him.”
“Oh, yeah. Thank you so much for all the help. I dunno about you, Ice Wizard, but I don't see a dragon-” His whining morphs into squeaking, and laughter crowds the illuminated air around Stress. Her fellow hermit is no longer at her side. A rabbit is instead. No, wait. Stress would know that tuft of hair between large, floppy ears anywhere.
“He runs his mouth like a bunny.” The pink faerie giggles. They turn their attention to Stress, a glint in their eye matching the mischievous tone of their voice. And Stress thought the look on Grian’s face was trouble. “Unfortunately, bunnies cannot carry a dragonfruit. And I don’t think we’d want to give such a rare fruit to ungrateful humans. No no no!”
“Fair folk, we humbly request your kindness. My friend here is an idiot-” She yelps as sharp bunny teeth nip her fingers. “And a right meanie. But we need the fruit. This potion is crucial to the safety of all Lairyon. Please, if he apologizes consider giving us the dragonfruit.”
“An apology will not be enough.” A fairy with a red aura and lanky wings deems. “Apologies are worthless to the fae. Your belittled bunny here must prove he is sorry, and lower his crown to that of jester to be granted reprieve.”
Stress glances at her furry friend, but he shakes his head, crossing his paws in defiance. “It’s a deal! What’s one little prank gonna do?”
The fields flurry around the two, separating Stress from bunny BDubs. One faerie settles on Stress’s shoulder, warning her she should stay back. They don’t want the kind human to be caught up in the misgivings of the illfated. Another faerie drops a flower crown atop Stress’s head, though Stress is careful not to accept any food the fair folk offer.
BDubs, on the other hand, is picked up by his fluffy cotton tail by three different fae, their laughter a cacophony of bells. His tiny claws dig into the dirt, but the otherworldly beings are must stronger than his thumper feet, and they succeed in pulling him to a faerie well. The pink aura fairy flits to the stone siding, casting dust into the ripples as if she were sowing seeds. The water turns a milky shade, swirling like clouds trapped in the ground. Mist pours from the sides.
Fae pull BDubs off the ground, suspending the rabbit above the well. “Enjoy your nap, Plant Mage.”
Stress joins in the raucous laughter from all around the forest, and a short squeak is cut off when the faeries dunk BDubs into the well. He doesn’t stay under for long, but when the faeries pull him out, his eyes are closed and mouth lolled open. Somehow, even in a rabbit’s body, BDubs manages to snore. Stress raises an eyebrow. “Is that all?”
The fae go silent, the entire forest echoing only the sound of BDubs fast asleep, apart from a snicker here and there. A squeaky, high pitched voice breaks the silence. “Nonono, big gummy bear, I’m not cherry flavored. I swear.”
Stress realizes the voice is coming from the rabbit, and a snort slips through her lips. The forest roars with laughter, as BDubs continues to dream aloud. His dreams jump from ridiculous statement to ridiculous statement. Stress was sure she heard the weirdest things come from BDubs before, but she can’t help but howl like a chupacabra when BDubs mumbles out his secret enjoyment of diamonds. “Guess someone ‘as rubbed off on ya. Better remember to wash my coins and jewels when they come from both of ye now.”
Feeling fuzzy both inside and out, BDubs coughs up a hairball from his throat. He opens his eyes, rubbing them from sleep, before realizing he is fuzzy. He’s still part rabbit, in the midst of transforming back from bunny to human. Paws turning to hands, ears shortening back to be beneath his bandana. The young faerie donned in pink settles their arm against BDubs’  bunny feet. “So, how was your nap?”
“That was the wor-” Stress cuts BDubs off, eyes blazing hot enough to melt all the ice in Lairyon. The last thing he should be doing is rebuking the fae. Again. BDubs groans, but voice pitches to a sickly sweet tone. “I had a wonderful nap.”
The fair folk all in the fields laugh and cheer, some zipping away to tell others of the fun they missed. It’s a rare delight to have such entertainment, such a witty human that can still fall for their pranks. The young faerie in pink disappears among the bushes, and returns with a bag full of small black seeds. “We fae keep our word.”
“Th-” BDubs remembers not to say those words, and simply bows his head in response. “Great kindness, i guess or whatever.”
“We will miss your company.” They snicker. “We would love to have a romping rabbit to bemuse us...and of course, the kindly Ice mage. Take good care of these rare seeds, they require the care of a beast, much like their namesake.”
BDubs takes the pouch, securing it right next to his heart. He’s going to sleep holding these seeds after what he’s been through. The two hermits rise, about to make their way from the fields when a green light collides into BDubs’s head. “Can I not get a godsdamned break here?”
The faerie that ran into him shakes off his stupor, voice running so fast it sounds less like talking and more like chirping. Stress turns to look at the fae. “What’s the problem, loves?”
Faeries rush around them, flitting around in every direction with no sense of purpose or precedent. The young pranking pixie starts to fly away, but stops dead in the air. “No, no that will not do. The dark presence is too close.”
“Dark presence? What do you mean?” Stress follows the faerie, but they turn on the hermits. A hand as small as Stress’s pinky nail passes between hermit and other kind. BDubs moves to follow, but discovers he can’t pick up his feet. It’s as if they are rooted into the ground.
“Be the light.” The faerie breathes, before disappearing in the brambles and bushes. Stress cries, watching as her robes turn to bark, bones to wood. Her feet have become roots, and it’s climbing higher.
BDubs reaches out to help his friend, shock dawning on his face as his fingers turn to branches, bright pink cherry blossoms blooming. The transformation engulfs Stress’s face, Features turning to knots and whorls of the grain. He can only close his eyes, and accept that they’ve been tricked by the fae again.
Except when he opens his eyes, he can still see. He cannot move, cannot even breathe, but he remains able to see the outside world. He feels a brush of leaves against his own branches, and that’s all he needs to know that Stress is alive as well.
Why have the fae trapped them? Why turn them to trees, but let them see the world beyond?
Screams fill the air where there was once birdsong and laughter, the peace of the Flowerfruit Fields shattered. BDubs surges forward, but is stopped by his own roots and rigidity. A howl sends shivers down his leaves, and in the moonlight, a shadow beast prawls through the grove. A varkolak husk, red foam dripping from it’s misty muzzle, sniffs the air before chasing after fleeing lights.
Stress can’t watch. She closes her eyes, hearing the husked creatures snarl and snap, and a distant chuckle begins to arise from the bloodbath. She keeps her eyes closed, until that charismatic voice warms across the massacre. “Such raw magic...so ethereal, why haven’t I thought of coming here before?”
Three spires of black crystal orbit around Dolios’s crown, mist swirling. With each breath Dolios takes, he consumes the dark magic. Red splatters across his cheek, droplets falling from the hairs of his perfectly kept beard. Eyes glimmer with curiosity as a faerie is dangled from between his fingers.
A crystal lowers from the angled orbit around the Magistrate’s head, and a shadow falls over the cherry blossom tree. Transparent mist swirls like midday clouds, a low rumble of a magic spell escaping under Dolios’s breath, followed by a cut off scream, scraping like a bell.
When the shadow disappears, there is no faerie left. Only the magic, the power writhing through Dolios’s veins. The magistrate looks around, and for a moment Stress fears he knows they’re not real trees. But he steps over the corpses on the ground, faeries sapped of their power fading away into nothing. Not even a husk.
The stolen magic disappears under Dolios’s golden hemmed sleeve, and his hands clasp behind his back. The husk monsters continue at the simple nod of his head. Leaving behind in his wake a bloodbath, and the ashes of what once were the fae of the Flowerfruit fields.

Fairy Social Ladder
The Fairy Caste System
The subspecies of Fairy you are determines your social status and many of your life choices. Anti-Fairies and the Refracted rarely care what subspecies you are, but many Fairies avoid socializing with people who aren’t in their league. Walk into any Fairy school and you’ll notice that friend groups usually contain members of closely-ranked subspecies rather than roommates.
The social ladder was designed by the Eros family long ago according to Fairy fertility cycles. Back then, its main purpose was to help parents betroth their children to a partner whose heat cycles and instinctive social behaviors would line up well with theirs, and to help sort out messy legalities like inheritance rights. This morphed into the caste system we know today. The social ladder is mentioned often in my fanfics, especially Origin of the Pixies.
Fairies take the species of their father and the crown of their mother. If both parents have wings, their children will have blended wings; if only one parent has them, most of their offspring will have wings but it’s possible for one to be born without. Many low-class drakes search for higher-class damsels so their offspring are treated as higher status than they really are upon closer inspection.
Naiad - A wingless Fairy (one born without or one who no longer has wings); the von Strangles ceremonially cut their wings off
The social ladder was far more strict before H.P.’s time. Back then, Fairy children had to memorize the social ladder and greet others according to whether they ranked above or below them. In modern times, Fairy World no longer demands such behavior, but the social ladder still plays an influential role in Fairy culture.
As Poof’s generation grows, the social ladder gradually becomes less important. School teachers deliberately seat kids who would not normally socialize near one another in an attempt to upend the system. In the future, the social ladder may be scorned and rejected altogether.
You can view the original social ladder posts with screenshots HERE on my main blog (Didn’t want the pictures here due to length)
This post brought to you by “I don’t read fantasy just to see regular humans with wings” gang
.
1) Common Fairies (Faedivus fae)
Patron: Dragonfly (Free-tailed bat; peregrine falcon) Crown: Six-pointed floating crown Heat Cycle: Fertile 18 months every 500 years Shape of Nymphs: Balls Ambassador Token: A pocket copy of Da Rules listing only major cloudland laws Food Weakness: Rump roast Holotype: Finella Sunbeam
Common fairies are the highest-ranking species in Fairy society. They have elaborate courtship rituals involving dances, and a bonded pair will notch the costas in one another’s wings in the same pattern, individual to the pair (The notching tradition has since spread to other subspecies, but it originated with the fairies). Common fairies are the only subspecies capable of swiveling their wings independently, which makes them the fastest and most agile fliers in the Seelie Court. However, their wings cannot fold directly backwards. Due to sharing genetics with dragonflies, fairies panic around live fish unless exposed to them frequently from a young age.
.
2) Cherubs (Faedivus ciconiidae)
Patron: Stork (Common raven) Crown: None naturally Heat Cycle: Fertile 12 months every 500 years Shape of Nymphs: Ovals Ambassador Token: A decorative metal arrow about four inches long, piercing two small "hearts" Food Weakness: Pancakes Holotype: Aphrodite Eros
Despite their stork genetics, cherubs are classified as a fae race. The majority work with the Eros family, spreading love throughout the universe. Curiously, they’re obsessed with counting seeds. Cherub wings carry the most dominant genes in the Seelie Court; if you mate with a cherub, you’re guaranteed to get a baby with feathered wings unless something goes horribly wrong.
.
3) Nixes (Faedivus pisces)
Patron: Dobsonfly (Greater bulldog bat; great horned owl) Crown: Very tall points Heat Cycle: Fertile 8 months every 500 years Shape of Nymphs: Round; chronically damp to the touch Ambassador Token: A single fancy fork, spoon, and knife Food Weakness: Lobster bisque Holotype: Horace Sapphiro
Nixes are stereotyped as the socialites of Fairy society; they are associated with music, poetry, and plays. They typically want their way and are infamous for drowning people who stand against them. Their clothes are always wet, and they lose their ability to do magic when their damp coats are removed. Nix damsels have fish tails. Nixes are responsible for creating coin sith (fairy dogs), though you won’t find a nix who’ll take the blame for it.
.
4) Leprechauns (Faedivus leipreachán)
Patron: Click beetle (Brown long-eared bat; great green macaw) Crown: Green hats Heat Cycle: Fertile 4 months every 500 years Shape of Nymphs: Somewhat clover-shaped Ambassador Token: A cooking pot Food Weakness: Potatoes Holotype: Sienna Partridge
Leprechauns tend to congregate around Ireland and stereotypically wear green. They’re associated with rainbows and sometimes with greed. In return for releasing them after capture, they are obligated to give you any 49 things you ask for, such as pieces of gold, kisses, smacks to the face, or even years of service (Most people demand gold, not knowing they have other options). The one thing they can’t give is forty-nine children. They lose their ability to do magic if turned upside-down. Generally, leprechauns can only produce children once, and only crossbred leprechauns have wings.
.
5) Eastern Elves (Faedivus cobble)
Patron: Honeybee (Bumblebee bat; elf owl) Crown: Blue or green pointed caps with spikes around the base Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Dodecahedron Ambassador Token: Two wooden slippers Food Weakness: Honey Holotype: Thomas Kite
Eastern elves are the elf subspecies most likely to reside in Fairy World. They have the special ability to turn a piece of any nonliving material they desire into shoes or clothes (sans a few particular materials such as smoof); because of this, almost all of them work in Fairy World’s clothing industry. Although they don’t commonly become godparents, they frequently interact with humans by working on their projects at night. Eastern elves are the only elves to naturally have wings. They lose the ability to do magic if you take away their shoes
.
6) Western Elves (Faedivus coquito)
Patron: Honeybee (Bumblebee bat; elf owl) Crown: Blue or green pointed caps with spikes around the base Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Dodecahedron Ambassador Token: A baking pan Food Weakness: Honey Holotype: Chestingwood Brown
Western elves are probably the most common fae to roam Earth, and are majorly concentrated around Europe and the Midwestern United States. They can summon cookies out of thin air when pleased (no wand required), though they grow immune to the intoxicating effects of sugar with age. Western elves can’t poof and do not naturally have wings, but they can travel through trees. They keep their eyes on humans and report back to Fairy World. Western elves lose the ability to do magic if you take away their shoes.
.
7) Northern Elves (Faedivus septentrio)
Patron: Honeybee (Bumblebee bat; elf owl) Crown: Blue or green pointed caps with spikes around the base Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Dodecahedron Ambassador Token: A small white pouch that holds more than you’d expect Food Weakness: Honey Holotype: Lachlan Buckle
Northern elves are best adapted for life in the cold, hence their name. Since they have natural skill with tools, wood, and cloth, they work closely with Kris Kringle spreading holiday joy to humans all over the world. Northern elves can’t poof and do not naturally have wings, but they are excellent organizers and are thought to take great pride in their work. Most northern elves are drones who defer to Kris Kringle as their gyne; only the Head Pixie rivals that man for high high number of devoted, careful workers. Northern elves lose the ability to do magic if you take away their shoes.
.
8) Selkies (Faedivus arctocephalus)
Patron: Seals (Lesser bulldog bat; goose) Crown: Pink coral Heat Cycle: Fertile 8 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Scallop Ambassador Token: A pink seashell Food Weakness: Clam chowder Holotype: Grace Swiftly
Selkies turn into seals if they wear their sealskin coats, and are “forced” to follow any orders given to them by someone else wearing their coat. Anti-selkies and selkie refracts do not have coats and merely reflect their counterpart. Selkies wear crowns of pink coral and their wings function more like fins and aren’t great for flying with. Their patrons are all seals, though the species of seal can vary.
.
9) Swanee (Faedivus cygnus)
Patron: Swan (Black scoter duck; swan) Crown: Winged caps Heat Cycle: Fertile 8 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Round; feathery Ambassador Token: A bathrobe Food Weakness: Toast Holotype: Lia Lazulia
Swanee are similar to selkies, although they have feathered robes instead of sealskins; ‘swanee’ is a more gender-neutral term for the swan maidens of myths. They are bound to whomever wears their feathered robe. Anti-Swannee have horns under their hats; according to their culture, only the most dominant anti-swanee may display their horns. Anti-swanee do not have anti-robes and merely reflect the relationships of their counterparts.
.
10) Aluxo’ob (Faedivus milpa)
Patron: Owlfly (Jamaican greater-eared funnel bat; American crow) Crown: Large, extravagant metal and fabric crown Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Bells Ambassador Token: A colorful puzzle pyramid with rotating sides Food Weakness: Popcorn Holotype: Marion Ru
Aluxo’ob are associated with wisdom. They pride themselves on hard work, love puzzles, and are completely invisible unless you look directly at them. They also have the ability to hear what you say about them in conversation no matter where you are. They frequent the Mesopotamia and South American areas of the word. Because they lose power if shut indoors with no open exits, they tend to be claustrophobic. The plural form is aluxo’ob; the singular is alux.
.
11) Qalupalik (Faedivus crepito)
Patron: Cockchafer (Northern ghost bats; willow ptarmigan) Crown: Simple three-pointed crown Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Round; stark white until they shed exoskeleton Ambassador Token: A small, fuzzy blanket Food Weakness: King crab Holotype: Philip Na
Qualupalik frequent the northern areas of the United States and Canada. You can hear them coming from a ways off in flight because their patron is the cockchafer. They are associated with cleverness, patience, innovation, and wilderness survival. They wear coats called amautis and steadily lose magic the longer they’re outdoors with their hoods down. Historically they engaged in changeling children traditions, though this is now frowned upon.
.
12) Imps (Faedivus gryllidae)
Patron: Cricket (Spotted bat; cricket warbler) Crown: None naturally; usually bald; have two antennae Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Rectangular (Vertical) Ambassador Token: A wooden flute Food Weakness: French fries Holotype: Archer Clay
Imps have antennae and no natural crowns, although crossbreeds will show the crowns of their mothers. Their wings chirp if they become flustered or excited because their patron is the cricket. They bounce a lot when they walk and have a special influence over temperature. They lose the ability to do magic if you hold the tips of their antennae together so they touch.
.
13) Habetrots (Faedivus embroidera)
Patron: Cuckoo wasp (Dayak fruit bat; Australian white ibis) Crown: Pointed hat with a star at the tip; damsels also have two ribbons trailing from their hats Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Round; fluffy Ambassador Token: A pair of knitting needles Food Weakness: Lamb chops Holotype: Brendan Wulhave
Habetrots, although there aren’t a lot of them, tend to frequent the rural areas of Fairy World, mostly tending sheep and various magical farm animals. Their specialty is knitting and sewing. They have the highest turnover rate of any magical being due to the fact that they can have blood drawn by and be killed by magical objects. Like their insect counterparts, they’re considered beautiful but elusive. They curl into balls of fluff when startled.
.
14) Barbegazi (Faedivus diaemus)
Patron: Snow scorpionfly (Honduran white bat; black-capped chickadee) Crown: Five-pointed crown Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Slightly pine tree shaped Ambassador Token: Thick snow boots Food Weakness: Granola Holotype: Andréa Nightly
Barbegazi have large bare feet which they use for snowboarding down mountains. The white bat-like wings of full-blodded barbegazi are recessive and are not often passed to their offspring. Barbegazi more common on Earth in the north than in Fairy World. They do not function well when it’s hot and stick to cold parts of the world. Despite their bat-like wings, they are clearly Seelie Courters; they do not have any bat instincts, and instead have the instincts of snow scorpionflies.
.
15) Far Darrig (Faedivus mus)
Patron: Rats (Desert long-eared bat; golden eagle) Crown: Pointed hat; does not float Heat Cycle: Take after the non-far darrig parent Shape of Nymphs: Look like rats with pointed hats Ambassador Token: A bronze brooch in the shape of a proud rat Food Weakness: String cheese Holotype: Alfred Indigo
Far darrig love to play, and luckily they’re easily entertained. Perhaps unluckily, their sense of humor tends towards comedic slapstick. They often lack boundaries, but it’s rare for one to continue bothering someone after they’ve been politely asked to stop. They can jump quite high. Beneath the practical jokes they’re real sweethearts and fiercely loyal to anyone they’ve fallen in love with, rarely putting themselves and their own wants first in any situation. They also like snuggles an awful lot. They always take their wings and any insect behaviors from the non-far darrig parent
.
16) Korrigans (Faedivus myrmeleontidae)
Patron: Antlion (Indiana bat; bowerbird) Crown: Pointed hat with a ribbon or two curling off the back Heat Cycle: Fertile 4 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Oval; resemble pine cones Ambassador Token: A curious wand that creates bubbles out of soap Food Weakness: Maple syrup Holotype: Arietta Moonbeam
If you think korrigans are pretty in the shadows, wait until you see them in direct sunlight- their hair will turn white, their eyes will turn red, their wings will shrivel, and their skin will wrinkle. Furthermore, spending too many minutes in the sun will drop them to their knees, and they won’t be going anywhere without someone carrying them. They usually travel in the form of a ball of light or bubble. Korrigans cannot name all seven days in the week if asked to do so.
.
17) Sylph (Faedivus flavus)
Patron: Eastern amberwing (Yellow-winged bat; common barn owl) Crown: Tall pointed hats with brims, covered in yellow stars Heat Cycle: Fertile 4 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Cupcakes Ambassador Token: A writing quill made from the feather of a peacock Food Weakness: Soy sauce Holotype: Luisa Highcrown
Sylph are creatures of the air and rarely touch the ground. They have the largest wing:body ratio among the fae. They’re stereotyped as studious and shy. Sylph hold power over the wind, though their talents are often lackluster in other areas- particularly where water is concerned. If you splash even a little water on a sylph, they’re powerless and mostly immobile until they dry off.
.
18) Banshees (Faedivus turgidus)
Patron: Cicada (Giant golden-crowned flying fox; three-wattled bellbird) Crown: Very large crowns with very tall points Heat Cycle: Fertile 4 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Look somewhat ghostly Ambassador Token: A tome briefly outlining various languages and monetary systems used by various Alien races throughout the universe Food Weakness: Deviled eggs Holotype: Brigid Lightwish
Aside from the part about how they go into anxiety attacks around people who are going to die soon, banshees are pretty regular Fairies. Damsels generally don’t like other banshee damsels and often refuse to speak to one another. As a general rule, male banshees are all mute and don’t like calling attention to themselves. Banshees frequent the Ireland area, usually in the skies whereas the leprechauns prefer the ground. If you cover a banshee’s mouth with your hand or another object, they’ll be immobilized.
.
19) Duende (Faedivus denudo)
Patron: Housefly (Philippine naked-backed fruit bat; rock dove) Crown: Very tall points Heat Cycle: Fertile 4 months every 100 years Shape of Nymphs: Oval (Horizontal) Ambassador Token: A set of elegant bookends shaped like dragonflies Food Weakness: None (Unless they’re a crossbreed) Holotype: Cosmo Elkwood
Duende have no natural crown, and no gravitational field to hold a crown even if they’re crossbreeds. They tend to have very weak levels of magic, but are kindly souls who are considered trustworthy, especially with children (they’ll lead lost children through forests and back to their parents). On an unrelated sidenote, don’t let them clip your toenails unless you want to lose that foot.
.
20) Gnomes (Faedivus poacae)
Patron: Aphid (California leaf-nosed bat; American flamingo) Crown: Pointy caps, usually red Heat Cycle: Fertile 12 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Round; chronically damp to the touch Ambassador Token: A flower pot enchanted to ensure any seed planted will indeed survive to maturity Food Weakness: Maple syrup Holotype: Mallardi Fern
Gnomes have the greenest thumbs in Fairy World and take it upon themselves to look after plants; the majority of gnomes are found on Earth rather than the clouds. They will break out in hives if they come in contact with soap; too much exposure for too long can make them violently ill and even kill them. Gnomes can shapeshift into any kind of plant (but no animal or object) even without a wand. They’re stereotyped for having a phobia of fire. Gnomes and pixies have a long rivalry for biological reasons (aphids vs. wasps).
.
21) Satyrs (Faedivus satyrus)
Patron: Goat (Long-legged bat; Andean flamingo) Crown: Very tall points Heat Cycle: Take after the non-satyr parent Shape of Nymphs: Giant balls of colored fluff with pink faces Ambassador Token: A stylus and quill sharpener Food Weakness: Applesauce Holotype: Primrose Starfall
Satyrs don’t seem like traditional Fairies. Their feet are hooves and they grow thick, colorful hair around their chests and lower body. Their culture prizes this fluffy hair and its actually against their beliefs to wear clothing unless donning a disguise. Satyrs have wide diets and their habitat ranges throughout the cloudlands as well as Earth; satyrs are a species who interact regularly with humans. They always take their wings after the non-satyr parent.
.
22) Wraiths (Faedivus phasma)
Patron: Head lice (New Zealand lesser short-tailed bat; cockatiel falcon) Crown: None naturally Heat Cycle: Fertile 12 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Flat below and rounded on top Ambassador Token: A handspun tablecloth of white lace Food Weakness: Poppy seed muffins Holotype: Cain Lightray
Wraiths have translucent skin, so one can view their organs. They turn colors depending on what they eat (like their patron insect, head lice). Pure wraiths have no natural wings or crown; some crossbreeds might have wings, but they are always incapable of flight. The more bold colors touching a wraith’s skin, the sicker they get. Since Fairies turn to dust upon death, transparent wraiths are very popular among institutions studying biology. They’re incredibly rare.
.
23) Goblins (Faedivus avaritia)
Patron: Fungus gnat (Little goblin bat; rook) Crown: Five-pointed crowns, each point tipped with a small ball Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Mushrooms Ambassador Token: A large silver coin shaped like a star Food Weakness: Mushrooms Holotype: Leroy Lang
Goblins are thought to be both oblivious and greedy with a fascination for gold, gems, and other precious, shiny things. Fungi are their main food source, and they’re often viewed as a scavenger race. Most live underground or on the fringes of Fairy society due to heavy negative stereotypes towards their species. They are impervious to cold and cannot freeze. They overheat easily if not careful.
.
24) Kobolds (Faedivus auxiliaris)
Patron: Ladybug (Egyptian fruit bat; red-billed oxpicker) Crown: Colorful top hats (Many colors, but never green) Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Diamonds Ambassador Token: A ladybug crafted from a ruby Food Weakness: Candy corn Holotype: Morley Arrowsmith
Kobold culture is tight-knit and highly encourages charity and friendship in every way. They strive to please and are always excited to help you. Their goal is to complete work quickly and look for more, but the work quality is often questionable. You’ll hurt they’ll feelings if you say so and they may lash out if you deny their help. Their magic doesn’t work near cobalt. They have an affinity with fire.
.
25) Ishigaq (Faedivus caecus)
Patron: Ice crawlers (Silver-haired bat; blue jay) Crown: Cloth with a long feather sticking out behind it Heat Cycle: Fertile 10 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Slightly snowflake shaped Ambassador Token: Five elaborate miniature candles and a tiny candelabra for them Food Weakness: Truffles Holotype: Cosmo Comet
Ishigaq are traditionally a mountain-dwelling species who thrive in Fairy World’s icy mountains. They never leave footprints and only crossbreeds have fingerprints. All ishigaq are either blind or have very poor eyesight. When shadows are dark enough, they act as physical barriers their race must swim through or walk around.
.
26) Amazons (Faedivus galla)
Patron: Fowl ticks (Anti-Fairy and Refract patrons unknown) Crown: Feathered headdress Heat Cycle: Fertile 6 months every 50 years Shape of Nymphs: Five-petaled flowers Ambassador Token: None; they want no business with Fae politics Food Weakness: Chicken Holotype: Karia
Amazons are a small population who have secluded themselves in Fairy World’s Cherish Jungle. They’re capable of crossbreeding, although rarely do since they’ll be thrown out by their own people for it. Amazons worship a chicken goddess called the Cycling Hen and wear colorful headdresses. They don’t like visitors, and not a lot of people even remember they exist. They lose most of their energy if their headdresses are removed.
.
27) Trolls (Faedivus troglodytarum)
Patron: Termites (Hoary bat; burrowing owl) Crown: Fertile 12 months every 25 years Heat Cycle: Fertile every autumn Shape of Nymphs: Troll (No exoskeleton, just tough troll skin) Ambassador Token: A hand-carved storage box for a wand Food Weakness: None Holotype: Libindi Rata
Trolls are a Fairy subspecies with green, blue, or gray skin who generally live underground. Unless someone else brought them along, you’ll never find trolls in Fairy World- they can’t climb the Bridges and they can’t poof. Their stone cities are really something to be admired. Some say trolls grow more beautiful with age, but trolls would probably be offended to hear you imply they aren’t beautiful now. Although not quite as offended as they might be to find out people still believe they’re uncultured swine- they’re actually very proper people with great pride in their politeness.
.
28) Púca (Faedivus virens)
Patron: Emerald ash borers (California myotis; chestnut-tailed starling) Crown: Three-pointed crown Heat Cycle:  Fertile 8 months every 25 years Shape of Nymphs: Like fresh loaves of bread Ambassador Token: A pair of strong walking shoes that will always be the wearer’s size Food Weakness: Corn chips Holotype: Fletcher Reed
Púca always have some tint of green skin, and usually antennae, as well as natural three-pointed crowns. Being creatures of luck, they are heaily associated with Anti-Fairies; they share a repulsion for known good luck charms. However, they wander on their own and are not attracted to bad luck like Anti-Fairies are. There are very few of them in existence.
.
29) Dwarves (Faedivus taenarius)
Patron: Harvester ants (Dwarf little fruit bat; kiwi) Crown: Very tall points Heat Cycle: Fertile only in warm weather Shape of Nymphs: Don’t seem to have one Ambassador Token: A large gem; type varies by zodiac year Food Weakness: Mushrooms Holotype: Quartz Glaswin
The majority of dwarves are crossbreeds, with a gender ratio skewed towards males. Dwarves are magical “dead zones” who even drain the magic out of magical objects they spend enough time around. They’re immune to the magic of others unless said other is really focused, powerful, and willing to expend so much energy. Dwarf bites are venomous; they won’t cause death like a brownie bite, but are very painful and the after-effects last a long time. They sometimes abduct lawn gnomes. Generally, dwarves suffer from agoraphobia.
.
30) The Huldufólk (Faedivus cibus)
Patron: Crane fly (Nathusius’s Pipistrelle; blue-footed booby) Crown: Striped pointed hat that doesn’t float Heat Cycle: Fertile only in cold weather Shape of Nymphs: Pentagons Ambassador Token: A tin pail with a colored stripe around its middle Food Weakness: Sugary cereal Holotype: Lorian Weidenburker
The huldufólk are descendants of elves who thrive in Iceland. They are the only fae species who still practice the changeling children tradition; huldufólk are completely incapable of producing milk for their offspring and often rely on humans to do it. Mostly, they can only digest milk and grain products, so they eat a lot of cereal. According to myth, you should never accept food from one of the huldufólk no matter how sweet and tempting it may appear, lest you end up cursed. The huldufólk are stereotyped as heavy partiers; despite this, they can barely fly two yards without getting totally exhausted.
.
NOTE - The following five subspecies are known as the red-flag races; Fairies highly discourage mating with them, the cherubs do not legally uphold marriages to them, and they are each seen as dangerous in some way.
.
31) Will o’ the Wisps (Faedivus lepidoptera)
Patron: Moths and butterflies (Six-spot burnet moth; greater bird-of-paradise) Crown: Six-pointed floating crown Heat Cycle: Fertile from late winter to early summer every 500 years Shape of Nymphs: Cones Ambassador Token: A vase filled with chamomile Food Weakness: Butter Holotype: Ilisa Maddington
Will o’ the wisps are famous for their flashy butterfly wings and paralyzing saliva. There’s a stark contrast between the drakes and damsels. Female wisps keep harems and are seen as domineering, while and most males are seen as dumb (most likely due to all the inbreeding that occurred not long ago). Betrothing your child to a will o’ the wisp is out of the question for most parents to begin with. Notably, wisps possess a watered-down poison called the Kiss of Frost, which is capable of paralyzing the limbs if it gets in the mouth. It’s only potent while a female wisp is in season, and they can’t utilize it until they’re young adults.
.
32) Finfolk (Faedivus lympha)
Patron: Minnow (Soprano pipistrelle; pacific gull) Crown: Wetsuit with a star on the head Heat Cycle: Fertile all year round Shape of Nymphs: Conch shells Ambassador Token: Salt and pepper shakers shaped like leaping fish Food Weakness: Worms (Especially candy ones) Holotype: Moira Plunge
Finfolk have no natural crowns and no wings. Historically, they’ve kidnapped people and dragged them underwater, turning their caprives into spouses and servants. If a finwife pairs with a finman, both become drastically weaker and less attractive; they generally try to marry outside their subspecies. On land, they must always wear “wetsuits” (They cannot breathe if their gills aren’t kept damp). They aren’t often seen on land.
.
33) Pixies (Faedivus quadratum)
Patron: Paper wasp (Spectacled flying fox bat; purple-crowned fairywrens) Crown: Broken crowns which they cover with pointy gray hats Heat Cycle: Infected with Wolbachia pipientis; adults asexually produce a nymph approximately every 500 years. Though they can’t reproduce the natural way, pixies do grow more interested in seeking partners for 18 months of their 500-year cycle. Shape of Nymphs: Hexagons Ambassador Token: A simple silver key dangling from a bracelet of coiled phone wire Food Weakness: Animal crackers Holotype: Fergus Whimsifinado
Pixies are an all-male, asexually-reproducing species who are all genetically identical. They carry the Wolbachia bacterium which renders them all asexual and incapable of reproducing with any other species. Pixies live by a corporatism or dictator system of government and are led by the Head Pixie. Covering a pixie with inside-out clothes will shut them down like a butterfly net, and wearing inside-out clothes will prevent a pixie from using any magic on you. Anti-pixies are green and yellow, while pixie refracts are brown and purple.
.
34) Redcaps (Faedivus ruberconlis)
Patron: Robber fly (Eastern red bat; cardinal) Crown: Tall pointed cap that must be regularly coated in blood Heat Cycle: Fertile all year round except in very cold areas Shape of Nymphs: Pyramids Ambassador Token: Clay that never dries out Food Weakness: Roast beef Holotype: Whittle Snowla
Redcaps have three additional eyes hidden under their hats. They will die if their hats are off their heads too long and, once they come into their adult wings, they must regularly soak their hats in blood to survive. Despite the name “redcap,” their hats can be various colors depending on what they’ve killed and how close they are to needing to kill again. They are immune to all poisons.
.
35) Brownies (Faedivus mundus)
Patron: Assassin bug (Common vampire bat; cassowary) Crown: Colorful fabric hats Heat Cycle: Fertile all year round Shape of Nymphs: Octagons Ambassador Token: A water bottle that resists acid and always stays cold Food Weakness: Ham Holotype: Ky Braddocki
Brownies fall at the bottom of the social ladder mainly because of their venomous bites. Their saliva contains inrita, a substance that drains magic; they can easily disable magic locks by licking around them, allowing them to sneak inside buildings easily. Inrita is deadly to Fairies and can paralyze Anti-Fairies and Refracts. Though dangerous, they are also seen as helpful since their instincts prompt them to clean constantly.

royal au!bangtan
i gave this idea away a while ago but the account never did anything with it nor did they post it so imma just leave this here for anyone who wants to use it as prompt/idea starter
this has nothing to do w/ the fae!au btw
endgame was meant to be either jungkook or taehyung but do what you want! :)
it was roughly based off moon lovers: scarlet heart ryeo minus the time travel and ten times the betrayal
prompt includes: brief plot outline, character outline and first potential chapter (but everything can change pretty easily)
leavin it under here
potential title: affinity meaning a binding by mutual attraction
BANGTAN – TAEHYUNG (Duke), JUNGKOOK (General) NAMJOON (Philosopher/Astronomer) YOONGI (Advisor to King) JIMIN (Duke) HOSEOK (Duke) JIN (Stable Boy)
BRIEF PLOT OUTLINE – Reader is part of a country which is been invaded by the Emperor of the boys Kingdom. (Places need names). During an attack of a village that the reader lives in she is captured. Jungkook was leading that attack and found her hiding in the stables. Reader is the daughter of the leader of that region. Reader is known to have helped her father in many excursions. They capture her and bring her for questioning in the castle. Reader is tortured hoping that information could be taken from her. Reader knows nothing. King orders her execution but Namjoon defies it saying the stars have something in plan for her and they may use her as bait to draw in her father (who fled before the attack or wasn’t there). Yoongi is completely against this. But reader is now sentenced to do stable work / slavery where she meets Jin. They befriend each other quickly – Jin does not know where reader comes from. One day Jungkook needs service on his horse and Reader has to do it. Jungkook causes trouble and his friend, Taehyung (the Duke of some Court/place) is there with him as well as Jimin and Hoseok. Jimin takes the reader’s side while Jungkook and Taehyung are assholes (Only Jungkook knows where she is from).  Later that day a maid is dismissed from work (reason unknown yet) and there’s a bit of chaos as they need servers since the main dukes and general are here celebrating a holiday with the King. Reader is randomly chosen by the Chef and is forced to serve. At dinner Jungkook, Yoongi and Namjoon are shocked. King pays little attention to her. Crown Prince keeps on staring at Reader. That dinner is more of a conference meeting event and the Reader hears everything. Start’s to think on how to destroy the King so she can revive her Kingdom. Leads to Yoongi finding her in the Accords (place where important documents about the King and his kingdom are kept) but Namjoon comes to her rescue. Jungkook is also suspicious of her but Taehyung, Hoseok and Jimin take her side. She begins to build a relationship with those three but she finds one of the King’s men (along with the Second Queen) planning an assassination of the Crown Prince. Reader happens to help prevent the death of the crown prince. Jungkook and Yoongi even more suspicious of her. Reader builds relationship with Namjoon and relationship with Taehyung turns romantic. (Now she is a permanent server no longer a stable girl).  Not sure where it goes from there.
End Game: Unknown (Either Taehyung or Jungkook – so either the boy who’s been by her side forever or the asshole who became her lover after they stopped being enemies)

CHAPTER ONE – NO MAN UNDER THE SKY LIVES TWICE
The air carries the pungent stench of death, within it lies the tired breathe of horses, the echoes of metal meeting metal in furious clashs and the faint glimmer of metallic blood. Dust dances in the air he breathes, coating his lungs in a thick layer of earth and smoke. Catani sits beside him, glistening sliver in the harsh sunlight of the Ennia lands. Her sliver body is caked in scarlet blood, slipping slowly off the sharp tip that’d been driven into the bodies of thousands. Her owner glances down, dark hair soaked in sweat clinging onto his forehead. His face is young but time and fighting has begun to show themselves in the deep chocolate eyes he possesses. His gaze stayed on the sword, ignoring the moving world around. The voices of his men chattering and bickering away as they assembled sticks and logs to create a fire fell on his deaf ears. He didn’t hear the crunch of dry grass as a man cloaked in midnight blue dashed towards his huddled figure. Until the man stood before him, panting heavily as sweat dripped from his sliver beard.
“General Jeon, there has been a message for you. From the capital.” The man says the word capital in a hushed whisper, as if the word alone could get him killed.
“What is it.” The boy doesn’t ask, his tone is a clear and solid command. His gaze doesn’t shift from the bloodied weapon either. Instead fingers painted in blue bruises and ivory scars find themselves twisting idly around a tall piece of grass.
The man tuts, lifting his hands to rip the head wrap from his sweltering skull. Hair the colour of moonlight tumbles from the intricate wrap design, falling like a waterfall down his back. “You’re not even going to look at me huh. Little rapscallion.”
The boy laughs. It’s short and brief and it comes out his throat like a cough instead.
“I didn’t need to look at you,” His fingers rise and point idly to the shoes the man was wearing. Curved pointed tips which reach for the skies. Capital shoes – not army boots. “Nobody else wears those bothersome things, Mordecai.”
The man huffs in reply, flopping down beside the boy. His heavy navy cloak hits the ground with a thud, spreading itself around the man’s frail body.
“Alright then Jungkook. But I wasn’t lying when I said there was a message from the capital.”
“What is it.” There’s a slight twinge of impatience in his voice. Reasonable because his arms and legs ached with pain. Tearing through bodies with a sword as heavy as Catani was wasn’t not as easy as he made it seem.
“His Majesty wants you to go forward into Gardenia tomorrow. It’s one of the last few villages we haven’t conquered yet. His Majesty is certain that the princess is there.”
Jungkook sighs, ripping the leaf of grass from its roots and tossing it into the heavy air, now tainted with smoke and fiery orange hue of the setting sun.
“My men haven’t rested for three days. Last night we had to deal with a rabid Kroni attacking our horses. We’re not at all ready for a new advancement. We need at least a day’s rest Mordecai.”
His eyes are on the elderly man, laced with lassitude and dispiritedness. His whole body sagged underneath the heavy armour, almost like he was caving in. Mordecai looked at the boy, yes he was a boy; more the half the men he controlled were his seniors. But he was a boy nonetheless. A boy who’d seen blood and fire. A boy who’d narrowly escaped death and swiftly handed out ones. He may have had the body of an adolescent man but his mind was as old as his father’s once before he’d passed away.
Jungkook always reminded Mordecai of his father.
The older man turned away, fixing his gaze on the blazing fire that’d been erected before them. The heat from the flames combined with Ennia’s natural furnace the sun (which refused to stop giving heat even after it went down) the world was an incinerator.
“You speak to me as if I was the King. I cannot change orders Jungkook. I can only deliver them.”
“I wish you hadn’t delivered this one then.” He’s up, black boots crunching leaves into dust beneath them. His strides are lengthy. His lean tall stature is covered in a black coat, the golden intricate insignia of a King’s General engraved on the back. Dry wind rips at his clothing, ruffling the brown mane his possess. He looks exactly like his father in Mordecai’s eyes.
“Jungkook-ah,” Mordecai says to no one. “There are many messages I wish I hadn’t delivered.” His sigh is carried by the wind to the ears of the young General. “So many.”
+
You can’t sleep. The night air surrounding you is abuzz with the sounds of glowing dragonflies skittering over the slumbering river beneath your feet. The water is cold to touch, slipping over your nimble fingertips like velveteen. The world is silver and gold; cool moonlight meeting the warmth of the lanterns scattered carelessly around the pathway.
The calm breeze whispers stories in your ears, ruffling the flimsy white nightgown you’d adorned when you’d slipped into the warmth of the blanket back in your room. It hadn’t occurred to you that a jacket would be necessary when the night had called you awake.
The fabric is rough beneath your fingertips, completely unlike the smooth satin dresses that’d your wear in the palace. Here, satin was a thing of treasure. Not one person wore it.
You’re kicking the ground beneath absently, the familiar knot of resent and anger towards your father forming in the pit of your stomach. Why did he have to leave you here? Of all places this tiny village couldn’t have been the best choice. He could have sent his men to collect you when that bastard Ryo attacked. He could have – but he didn’t.
A sigh slips out of your mouth and you spin around, trying in vain to get rid of that feeling that’s been building up in your bones and blood since the attack. The world was a kaleidoscope of grey and black and silver and gold. Glistening rocks surrounded you, shimmering under the glow of the moon. Your shoes skidded across the wet surface beneath, but because of the insane training you’d received from Myrna your balance didn’t falter.
Despite this attempt, the questions that drew you from sleep tumble in your head.
Why did he leave you?
Why didn’t he attack back?
Where did he go?
Is he even alive?
Why Gardenia?
Why?
“Y/N!”
The world is shook from you grasp and you come to a halt, frantically searching the dark trees for the voice which called your name.
“Y/N,  why aren’t you in bed?” The voice come from behind you.
