OC Posting #5 - Orion!! (Reference)

As promised in my last boy best friend reblog, I bring a new OC!!!! I was forced to complete yet another trio and I brought a chronically tired, yet again disabled character in classic "I can make them worse" fashion sorry gang (I'm not sorry 🥰🥰)

Most of his lore is written on his page on my Toyhouse, CaramelizedCat, but I'll summarize some stuff here.

Orion is 16, goes by he/they pronouns, and is best friends with his cousin Nova (owned by @/z0mb1eloz3r) and a chaos gremlin named Angie (owned by Emmie)!! When he was 10, a murder drone broke in and fired a missile that nearly killed him and his mom, but both survived (I chose to be nice and leave his parents alive for once). His mom is paralyzed from the waist down, though.

Aside from the scarring and replacement arm (that isn't gay Finley he just wanted to make it look pretty!!!!!/j), he's also deaf on his left side, and sustained core damage that leaves him constantly tired and struggling with a lot of physical activity. He does have PTSD from the attack, as well.

In conclusion I love him a lot and hopefully won't forget about him like I did my MD sona thank you for coming to my TEDtalk/j

Heads up, this list contains only the most developed sonas! So, some sonas won't be on here, like the Ghost Sona, or Miss Florist.

Lee Morrison and Chase Beckley // The Uncanny Valley

So, Lee and Chase, right? Right. These two are my main sona, replacing the old Ghost sona about... I don't know, a year and half ago? They're part of the Sweet Dreams sona team (Lee, Cro, Trainwail, and Verity) but they are officially known as the Uncanny Valley Duo, since prior to their lore in Sweet Dreams/Mistrick, Lee lived a majority of her life in the Uncanny Valley.

Lee's pronouns are she/her, while Chase's pronouns are they/them and masculine presenting. They are 16 and 29 respectively.

The lore of Lee and Chase can get kind of messy as all of the OCs in this list, so if you want to hear a more detailed version of it, you'll have to ask for it specifically. But, a TLDR of Lee's Uncanny Valley lore is: Mother ships off Lee with a ton of money to find her an apartment to live in due to the accident (tm), Lee goes house shopping, it goes TERRRRRIBLY wrong, trauma, Lee finds a non lethal two bedroom apartment and moves in with a roommate, creepy guy with a crush on her manifest, kidnapped, Lee escapes, gets a job at a gas station, that goes terribly wrong, lives there for god knows how long, mother calls again and ships her off to Border Springs, and then all of the Sweet Dreams lore happens. blah blah blah, timeline stuff, blah blah blah, name, place, proper pronouns /ref, Lee loses her mind,💥🎊 /ref, execution, Chase is a bad bitch you can't kill them, get Alice in Wonderland'd, idiot.

Miori Zimmerman // The Voices (tm)

The voices are either an angry little kid or a grown man who has a body count of at least 7 people, and yes they ARE siblings. In this case, however, you can insert Miori, the angry little kid who is also an orphan. oh and David is there ig.

Miori's pronouns are she/he/they. Canonically, Miori is 12 years old, and can appear as younger, but never older than 12 years old.

Miori's lore is kind of dependent on the game setting she's in to be honest... since she has a Poppy Playtime variant, a Crooked Man variant, a Resident Evil Variant, a Dead by Daylight variant... she doesn't have a solid backstory since the voices (tm) fit into whatever mold they need to. But you know what is this child consistently is among her different variants? Angry. Angry as HELL. And sassy. And casually bitter. She needs a hug and a good parental figure but she'll never admit it. Has canonically bitten a man's fingers off. And canonically is incapable of dying either. Occasionally you can hear her going "adaaaaa" in the background, clearly sounding like a lost child.

Jasmine Yvette Pines // The Shooting Star

Jasmine Yvette Pines, also known as Yasmine, or just, Yabel. She's one half of the Dark Deception duo, everyone point at Tammy Rivers Houser (Tazai) and say hi. Okay back to the shadow realm you go. Yabel is from Gravity Falls, Oregon! That is her home for most of her lore before dark deception.

Yabel's pronouns are she/her but honestly, she'll respond to anything. You could refer to her as a pinecone and she'll still respond tbh. Canonically she's 18 in Dark Deception and that's the age of most depictions you'll see of her, yet her age ranges anywhere from 14 to 22.

Yabel's lore is... kind of like Lee and Chase, where it's long and messy??? But, Yabel's lore is split into four major sections, so it's a little easier to distinguish and understand. There's the Dayshift at Freddy's section, the Gravity Falls section, the Dark Deception section, and the Weirdmageddon section. I can't really give a TLDR of Yabel's lore since there's just so MUCH of it but that would require me to talk about the matching sonas for each section as well so... that's more suited for a yabel specific ask.

Samantha Mason // The Occultist

Speaking of Yabel, I think it's worth it to talk about Yabel's Danny Phantom Counterpart, our gothic queen, Samantha. Sam exists purely in Weirdmaggedon as Yabel's tether to the bubble.

Samantha uses primarily she/he pronouns. Samantha has no canonic age.

Okay coming back here to talk about Sam a bit but. I just think Sam is kind of interesting. She's a creation of Bill Cipher who exists, solely to keep intruders out of the Weirdmaggedon bubble they trapped Yabel in. Based visually on Sam from Danny Phantom, Samantha is an in-universe occultist with powers that originate from Bill Cipher. And uhm... 👉🏼👈🏼ngl guys I just. love a good gothic morally ambiguous girlie. Of course in lore, the things she does to people is. mmmmmm teehee. Get 'em, girlie!! /j

Angel Trench // The Underwater Mafia Boss

Angel!!! Angel!!!!! I love Angel so much, guys. She's doing 20 million illegal things but it's okay she's a girlboss with a mission. A questionable mission, but a mission nonetheless.

Angel's pronouns are she/her!

Angel's lore is. there's a lot going on with her but one thing that is kind of important is that Angel's older sister is Lee/Chase, mentioned above. And, her lore ties a lot into the mystery surrounding Lee gone missing, the sudden shift in personality, and the execution of her sister... these things drive Angel's life, and wanting to know just... why. Wanting to know the truth and just know what happened. Miss Eel is her bestie, they have gossip teatime, she's the mom of like 20,000 mafia children. They're all grounded.

"Rabuka" // The Casino Underboss

why does everyone keep trying to date him. He doesn't even have a canonic partner. I'm still not over Dream Pins calling him "babygirl" like bestie wuh huh /lh /t

Rabu is the one sona who uses he/him exclusively.

Lorewise, Rabu is. a chimera demon who used to be an angel before he was cast down to hell. He's got a lot of lore, both on his own and with his two different duos, that being his hell side and his casino side. and he's just a silly guy!! He's very mean, he needs a warm blanket and a coffee.... and probably a nap. And, yes, his full name is Rabuka or... "frilled shark". There's lore reasons for that butttttt. teehee.

Raon Rain // Crepe Enthusiast

RAONNNNN I love my little valentine's day silly.

Raon uses she/her pronouns. In canon she's uhh... she was in high school so I think she was around 16 or 17 years old.

Okay so Raon comes from some dreams I had... and these has dreams have two google documents. One of them is based on Valentine's Day and one of them is based on Prom Night, but the docs are kind of messy and choked full of both my ramblings and triggers, so, I don't know if I'll share them yet (thinking to herself) but if you're interested, I can rewrite it, include all needed content warnings, adjust the grammar and whatnot.

Cherri Nakahara // Agency Secretary

Poor Cherri... they blew up her CARRRRR. Which... damn. my car. I hate driving but it would have been NICE to HAVE it still.

Cherri uses she/they pronouns. She's also 19 years old!

Cherri's lore is... it's short, sweet and concise for once. lmao. Basically, Cherri is the little sister of Chuuya, however, she doesn't have any form of special ability, she's just a normal ass person for the most part. Chuuya helped her get out of the mafia and away from it because he didn't want to see her get hurt, and Cherri ended up working with the ADA as a secretary under Dazai's jurisdiction. A lot of her character comes from like... her personality and ACTUALLY interacting with said character.

Justine Avarice // The Sacrificed Gambler

hi justine, sorry you got buried alive and sacrificed to the devil, queen. but you got a husband and a spouse out of it. we both got fucked up in your creation, peace and love.

Justine uses she/her pronouns, and she is 27 years old.

Justine's lore, similar to Cherri, is really short, simple, and concise! Most of the character character she has comes from her personality and her interactions. But, for the lore, Justine was brought into this death game by a group of cultists, made to dress up in... I think it was 1980s attire iirc? ( I'd have to fact check one with Yuu. ) and forced to compete in these survival games and majority votes. Unfortunately, Justine was chosen by majority vote by the other people and she was. buried alive in a coffin and killed. that's it. she's dead as hell /j okay but actually she got rescued and brought back to life and now she is living her best life with her space spouse and mathematician husband who IS a huge hater, actually. Get yourself a man who protects you from the people you thought were your friends as they SACRIFICE you for no DAMN REASON. Amen.

"Ame" and "Nihility" // The Lone Planetfarer

oh Nihil is. hmmmmmmmmmmm /j Nihil's very funny, very silly. Goes by the alternative name "Ame", Nihil's pretty cool. Nihil is short for Nihility.

Nihil technically... does not have pronouns??? They go by any and all pronouns! They also... don't have a canon age, they're as old as the oldest star and as young as the youngest moon at the same time. Ame, however, primarily uses she/her and is 22 years old, so, Nihil typically adopts the same.

Nihil has a lot of things going on with her backstory, so... back to the inbox if you want to know more about her!!! /j But, Nihil is known as "The Lone Planetfarer", and is capable of slaying gods and splitting planets in pieces with her sword. However, drawing her sword can corrupt Nihil, and if she gets too corrupted by the Nihility, she loses allll control ie she is FUCKED. lmao.

Of course, getting into Nihil means getting into the Nihility, the Stranger, and all of the other entities and monsters so that is a COMMITMENT i have to make so. make sure to visit the inbox if you want to know!!!

Velvet Sokolov // Local Russian

and finally... the newest sona to the list... Velvet!! Or, just, Vel for short. Your local donut loing russian who just really really misses her best friend and has a quickly deteriorating moral code.

Vel uses she/her pronouns, and she is 21 years old!

Vel has her own lore as well, and it's kind of... still growing tbh. I have some constants down but she's still stuck in the lore-ing department! But... I do have some facts about Vel. Like, she's russian, she's got red hair, canonically she has a really bad haircut, she was locked in a closet and bathroom and other dark places as a child and developed a debilitating fear of the dark as a result- yknow just, normal Vel things. I can talk about her lore and what her deal is if you guys are interested in it!!

Of all the sonas on the list, there are a few sets of sonas that cannot co-exist in a singular reality unless it's under very specific circumstances, which I can talk more about if you're interested in it. Those sonas are:

TMNT: Found Family is a teetle iteration based off of my friends!! I only have the turtles drawn out (and April planned in my head) but!!! I do have some of the basics:

Donnie (He/Her): He's based off of Tomi!! She's 14, the youngest of the four bros. Typically quiet around people (unless she freaks the fuck out) but he yaps A LOT when she's either alone or with her siblings. A lot of people mistake him as a very meek and mild individual, but in reality he's a violent BEAST filled with rage. The #1 hater ever. But overall she's very silly and critter-like...

Leo (He/him): The second youngest, based off of me! I would've made myself Donnie but. Then I'd just be drawing my sona SO... yeah... I decided to go with Leo because the person I relate to the most (after MM Don, ofc) is Rise Leo. For. Various reasons. But yeah. He's a 16 year old shithead who looooves playing pranks and being a smartass. He's academically smart but SUPER dense (a lot of shit goes over his head..), but also somehow extremely cunning and witty. Despite being a ball of unhinged chaos, he still ends up caring for his siblings like a dad because he's also an Anxious Idiot. Oh also he has a severe case of RBF syndrome

Mikey (He/him): I based him off of Val, he's 17 years old and the second oldest. Gay as fuck, I haven't shown his design yet but he's. Literally a walking rainbow (and I mean LITERALLY... wait until you see his scale patterning). Like Leo, he's a little shithead who teams up with the blue boy to prank everyone within a five mile radius. He's also somehow even more insufferable than Leo. It's probably because he's gay (DON HOMOPHOBIC REAL!??11/??!?!??!? /j). Despite being a seemingly fiery ball of energy, he gets pretty quiet with strangers. Actually, ALL of them get quiet with strangers. Autism sibs unite or something idk

Raph (She/They): The oldest of them all, being 18 years old!! She's based off of my beloved nee-chan Phantom. The (appointed) leader of the group, she has a major case of the Eldest Daughter syndrome. She's a very caring figure of them all, but despite seeming mature and calm, she's just as chaotic as the rest of them. She won't hesitate to condone murder (for the right reasons, of course) and doesn't really reprimand any of her brothers for their shenanigans. If anything, she laughs and cheers them on. I mean, as long as no one's getting hurt, it's all good, right??

April (She/Her): April is also 14, standing next to Donnie age-wise. She's based off of Cin.. I haven't developed her as much since I don't have her design down yet, but as far as I've thought, she's a very mischievous creature.. think of Anya's smug little "heh" face. That's basically her entire personality /hj. Despite being a little bitch (/lhaff) she's very sweet and won't hesitate to comfort her friends and family. Best little sister ever <- not biased at all

As for the storyline.... uh... haha um I. Haven't really thought that far?? Ik for a fact Splinter (who I haven't developed in the slightest) finds all four of the turtles individually as time goes on, with Raph being the first, then Donnie, then Mikey, and then finally Leo. That's why my iteration is titled "found family", because they all literally found each other (unintentionally, but still).

HEY I LITERALLY CANNOT REMEMBER IF I’VE EVER DONE THIS BEFORE but I appear to have not so?? Hey here’s what my wizzy ocs (currently, might update/edit every now and then) look like and a lil blurb about them (though I literally just got the new graphics patch and they look so weird 😭 it’s the eyes, the eyes are so different and unnerving)

Long post ahead!

Evan Crow

Evan is my main and the one I’ve had pretty much forever! (my old old characters were lost to time but. I’ve had him for a few years!! Which is also why he has two pets and two mounts, plus a few more in his house haha oops. Battle havox and Orio [frankenbunny] are the main ones though! I don’t use Vaden because they don’t have any good abilities and midnight harrowings are more for serious questing) He’s death primary balance secondary and is 19 years old! He has main character syndrome and ✨trauma✨ bc Ambrose thought it was a good idea to send a preteen (at the time) out to save the world. 😐 He’s kinda cynical because of it but overall pretty friendly and is personality is most like mine since he’s also kinda my sona! In relation to my ocs and their sorta universe he’s like. The genuine main character/goes through the main storyline, though the others do kind of go though it in their own way! He’s the one that REALLY does all the dirty work/is “the hero” so to speak though!! He has ADHD, OCD, GAD, and MDD (not because he’s like my sona and those are the disorders I have or anything ahaha //sweats) His pets are Vaden (harrowed bones) and Orio (frankenbunny)! Vaden is trying their best and Orio is no thoughts, head empty. He loves them both to death, but Orio is is questing buddy! His house is the battlemage keep and his hobbies are gardening, crafting, and fishing! I wouldn’t mind a few other mounts for him but I don’t need them/they’re not dream items!

Quinn Stargiver

Quinn is myth primary life secondary and is 17 years old! He’s quiet but not shy, more like keeps to himself. He’s pretty blunt and can come off as an asshole but is really just not in the mood to put with with shit (he will for his friends tho). Fun fact about Quinn actually: he has a mount so he doesn’t really have to worry about this as much now but before he used magic to get around/see! Kinda like putting out magic as “feelers”/like how echolocation kinda gives you an image in your head :0 literally. The only neurotypical here other than Cole HFSLFDSH  His pet is Plucky Belle (wargoyle) and she is a little DIVA that gets babied by Quinn, that’s his QUEEN. His hobby is pet breeding and his house is the wooded cottage (or at least I THOUGHT it was but I don’t own it yet, sob). Dream mount is astral unicorn!

Nora Stormsong

Nora is storm primary fire secondary and is 16 years old! She’s J O C K S U P R E M E and overall very hyperactive and happy-go-lucky! The physical embodiment of >:3c, chronic dumbass disease. She gets into a lot of trouble and is impulsive at times but she fucking loves magic, and loves adventure even more!! Has rlly bad ADHD but has honestly just given up caring at this point. Her pet is Bandit (fenris), he’s a feisty boy but loyal to Nora! She doesn’t currently have a hobby but might take up socketing, and she’s living in the dorms! Dream pet is tarantula hawk! I actually also have the new fangle (which is living over at Evan’s) and I really love that mount for Nora but I just... couldn’t get the colors to work. :,)

Victoria Goldthistle

Victoria is balance primary ice secondary and is 17 years old! You know that popular kid that always seems to have it together, looks hot as FUCK, gets good grades, and is honestly sort of regal, but as soon as you get to know them you realize they’re actually really struggling and isn’t as much as an asshole as you took them for? Yeah, that’s Victoria. Always carries herself with an air of grace, acts apathetic and “cold” (haha ice joke), comes from an upstanding family, and cares way too much about her appearance as a result. But in reality, she’s actually very sweet in her own way, and her laugh is the warmest thing you’ll ever hear! Cares deeply for her friends and her grades, although she’s struggling a little bit because of ADHD. (No I will not stop giving my characters ADHD, it’s MY disorder and I get to choose the coping mechanism) She also has an unnamed anxiety disorder (unnamed because I can’t decide or unnamed because she isn’t diagnosed/getting professional help? The answer is Yes) She doesn’t currently have any hobbies but might take up photomancy, socketing, or crafting, and lives in the dorms! Dream mount is desert racer or jeweled scarab and dream pet is pink cactus hopper!

Cole Silverbreeze

Cole is life primary (I haven’t decided on a secondary yet) and is 19 years old! If we’re being honest I have two directions I could take his character in that I haven’t decided between, one soft and wholesome and one... not so nice. I can’t choose!! On one hand Evan deserves Nice Things (as he’s Evan’s future partner) but on the other hand,, hrnrngngn life villain hrnrnrnngnggggg angst. I’m honestly worried the dark turn would be too heavy though so... idk! At this point he’s just one big bucket of potential! His hobby is gardening and he lives in the dorms! Dream mount is wild hare(?) or bruin ram(?) and dream pet is golden ram(?)

My arms reached for him and found his face- one hand cupping his cheek, the other wrapping around his neck, fingers locking into his curls. His arms locked around me, holding me safe. Our lips met softly, an affirmation. The words that had lingered between us for so long were now written within each other and I sighed in relief as I pulled my lips from his and pressed my face into the crook of his neck. His face was buried in my curls and I felt the low hum reverberate from his chest.

I was home.  

“Sassenach?” His voice was soft and warm, a hint of a smile forming.

“Mmhm?” I reluctantly tipped my head back to meet see a smirk curled at the corner of his mouth.

He tightened his arms around me, cocking his head to one side as he asked, “How long have ye been sleepin’ here in my absence?”

Bloody Scot.

CLAIRE

The next few weeks resembled the closest thing to a normal routine as I’d had in years. After a long shift I’d trek the pavement towards Jamie’s flat. At times he was quiet at the dinner table, whisky settled next to a dog-eared book, lost in the pages. Other nights I had found him curled on his side- hand on the pillow where my head would occupy, and I’d nestle myself against his chest.

My legs felt heavy as I trudged up the two flights to his flat. I lightly turned the knob and smiled- it was unlocked, waiting for me. I shuffled off my shoes and dropped my bag on the floor next to the entryway table. The lights were off, save one- dimmed low in the kitchen. I tiptoed my way towards the soft glow down the hallway to see a note on the counter, tucked neatly under a dram of whisky.

 A soft giggle left my lips as I pivoted to the fridge and grabbed the neatly plated food awaiting me. More often than not, I would arrive at his flat later than promised, and each night I would find a  note or sketch on top of whatever leftovers awaited me. He never complained, never commented about my erratic schedule, he never let me apologize for it- there was nothing to be sorry for.

My fingers traced his handwriting on the note- neat and uniform, yet with a hint of humor. It looked almost familiar as my mind lingered, allowing the whisky to seep under my skin and loosen the muscles between my shoulder blades. The flavor was distinct and I felt my cheeks flush- this was Lallybroch’s verra rare vintage. My eyes flickered to the liquor closet as my thoughts lingered- it looked just like my favorite label.

I rolled the last drops of whisky across my tongue, savoring the tingling sensation before settling the dishes in the sink and readying myself for bed.

“Mmm,” his eyes remained closed but the side of his mouth curled as he felt my weight behind him. “Ye made it ho… here safe.”

“I was starving, thank you for dinner,” I whispered into his back, every muscle relaxing as I soaked in his scent. My lips gently pressed against his skin as I smiled, “and the whisky.”

His weight shifted as he turned his body to mine, one hand snaking around my waist as he lightly kissed my forehead. His eyes opened slowly and remained half-hooded but he smiled slightly, his other hand propped up his head as his elbow found the pillow. “What did the note say? All I caught was Sassenach,” I said with a wink.

“Och, ye need to work on yer Gaelic,” he teased as his mouth found mine, his lips demanding as a his hands found the skin on my ribcage, his fingers making small circles that shot a pulse through my body.

A laugh escaped my lips as I pulled away, trying to find my breath, “Jamie, stop trying to distract me,” I gasped between his movements, “the note, what did it say!”

A deep hum lingered in his chest as he smirked at me, his gaze softening. “Happy birthday.”

I froze, eyes shifting just slightly as I tried to visualize the date. I had written it a thousand times today in patient charts but had never really thought about what it meant. “but… today is the nineteenth, I was born October the twentieth.”

“Aye, but yer in Scotland,” his accent thickened as his smile widened, “it’s only proper to start it off with whisky, no matter the hour. Tis past midnight, no?”

My eyes rolled as I smiled back, “You bloody Scots…” I shook my head and tried my best to mirror his lilt, “but, I suppose I canna mess with tradition.”

He laughed softly as deep blue darkened slightly as he took a long breath. “Tis a shame,” he said, his nose brushing against my unruly curls.

“What is?” I said, somewhat amused as I let his heat wash over me and melt away the long hours spent on my feet.

“That ye must tread all those blocks to my place after sae many hours on yer feet, with yer flat and yer things far in the opposite direction.”

“Oh yes, all of seven or eight blocks,” I said in jest but felt the mood shift between us as his breath quickened, but he made no reply. I caught the tell-tale twitch of his mouth, his face was slightly taut but he was trying for a casual glance in my direction.

“I’m happy to be here Jamie- honestly.” His silence was deafening as two fingers drummed on my side. I sat up next to him, my fingers searched for his and lightly laced between his.

I felt my words tumble out as I tried to fill the space between us, “I mean- if you wanted, needed some space… I can head back to my flat tomorrow.”

His fingers tightened around mine as I saw his pulse just below his jawline quicken.

“I mean, it’s been a few days since I’ve been back anyways. And... I-I’m sure you’d like to have your flat back to yourself for a bit.” My voice was weak and half-hearted but I tried for a smile as my thumb brushed the skin on his palm.

“Ye could…” he paused, his eyes avoiding mine. “Just… always come here. Yer wee things could find a place here, too.” Two fingers fluttered against my hand and I took in his true meaning.

“Jamie-” I started, my voice slow and soft- trying for a neutral tone. “Are you asking me to… to live with you?”

JAMIE

It had been on his mind since… well, since that night. He had come home- finally- after nearly a month in London. He worked late into the night and then again before daybreak on more than one occasion in the hopes of returning to Edinburgh ahead of schedule. Wanting to surprise her, he had gone to her flat but found it dark and empty. Reluctantly, he had returned home- assuming some late night trauma had come into the A&E, extending her shift and keeping her from him for a few more hours.

He had found her in his bed- dark brown curls sprawled against his pillow. Little signs of her dotted his flat- a comb in the bathroom, second set of shoes in the entry way. The smell of her lavender shampoo lingered on his pillow- she had slept in his bed god knows how many nights without him there; she had wanted to be close to him, and that thought warmed him to the very marrow of his bones.

The faint aroma of her body wash lingered on the sheets, the smell of fresh tea leaves in the kitchen made him ache for her here every morning. Hearing her steps down the hallway, the sound of her sigh as she walked through the door; the look on her face as she’d round the corner to find him. Waking to their limbs intertwined- her face against his chest, his hand tucked firmly around her hip. Finding her silently in the dark- a mix of sleep and passion that brought them to ragged breath and sweet oblivion.

It was her.

He wanted the promise of them- together- every night.

He sat silent, his eyes tracing the lines of her fingers as they interlocked with his.  She had shared enough of her past, of the path she took to be whole again- he knew this would not be an easy thing to ask. She had never shared a flat- not even with…that bastard.

“Aye,” his voice almost a whisper, “if ye’d like.” His smile was soft as he raised their hands to his lips, gently kissing her knuckles.

A sea of deep blue gazed into whisky amber, his face inches away from hers- ready but waiting. Her hand reached up and rested against his cheek, one thumb stroking his cheekbone. Her brows were creased but her lips were curled at the corners. “Are you sure?”

“I want ye here, Sassenach,” his smile widened as his arm pulled her close. “Always.”

Claire

His eyes hadn’t left me all day. Tracking me like a hawk, he had slowly and methodically worked through each room as I puttered behind him.

Packing my flat was pretty simple. My life had never consisted of things- a few photographs from my childhood- smiling faces of my parents holding my wild-eyed and squirming form, a few trinkets from my travels with Uncle Lamb, medical textbooks and a few old personal journals I kept through med school were all packed away in a few sparse boxes.

The last of my belongings were packed, with a heaping stack of mail precariously resting on the top box. I sat on the hardwood floor, fingers tracing the CEB of my scarf, mindlessly turning it over again.

“This is no’ how I imagined servin’ ye on yer birthday, Sassenach,” he tried for a wink and I laughed as my eyes scanned the boxes.

I hadn’t shared a flat with a man before- not even Frank. With him, I had always found a reason to hold off, even after the engagement. I had applied to a dozen residency programs without any knowledge of where I’d end up- it was only per chance (or was it) I had ended up in Edinburgh. He had humored me at first but it wasn’t long before he grew sour at every mention of my flat. I could never place it but something always kept me back from taking that final step.

But now, with Jamie, I felt nothing pulling be back but rather something propelling me forward. It was an invigorating high and one that thrilled and terrified me as much as it gave me peace.

I looked up from my scarf and met a sea of deep calm, nodding as I let out a deep breath.

“Well then, are ye ready to go home?”

My heart skipped a beat as my face rose to meet his, seeing his hand outstretched to me.

Home.

Our home.

The home we would build together.

My fingers linked with his, letting the warmth pulse between us as I smiled and my lips searched for his, “Yes.”

Jamie

He could pick out each of her knick knacks as he scanned the flat, each one a small glowing ember that marked her place here. It was a visual confirmation that he would get to see her- every day.  

It was almost six o’clock, they had just enough time to wash up before meeting her friends for her birthday dinner. No- they were his friends now, too.

He heard the shower turn on and he smiled reflexively, looking down at his dusty and disheveled appearance, the exertion from her move still on his skin. One hand was already discarding his shirt as he stepped into the hallway towards the bathroom.

He stopped to take one final sweep of the flat, their flat- and eyed the pile of envelopes on the counter.

The corner of a thick manila envelope caught his attention- he saw the distinct mark of a hospital name printed. His smile faded and his brow creased as two fingers, slightly shaking, pushed the pile of envelopes enough to see the return address and he froze.
