The last few months of 2023 were tough but 2024 is here and I'm determined to start drawing again. My first drawing of the new year -- a sketchy rumbelle :)

Actually it’s late and I need to be asleep HOWEVER I AM HAVING THOUGHTS about Rumbelle. I feel like we’ve all just collectively glossed over the fact that Rum and Belle were separated for 30 years. That’s a long time dude. And no-no-no- they weren’t just separated. He believed, fully, wholeheartedly believed, that she was dead. FOR THIRTY YEARS. He mourned her, he grieved for her, he kept his love for her locked away inside for all those days and nights. And then Belle, sweet, sweet Belle. She spends a bit of time adventuring and getting out there and good for her! I love that for her! She deserved that. And then she gets trapped. How long do you think she was in Regina’s castle, stuck there wondering, will she ever see him again? And then she is amnesiac for 28 years. Do you think, when she woke up from the curse, do you think she thought for a moment that she was dreaming- that she was still in that little cell, locked up and alone and thinking of the man she loved? Do you think she’d thought of him so often that when she woke from the curse and saw him there, that she thought he was just another dream? And then the mental fog lifted and she realised oh- oh- he looks… different. His curse has lifted- who lifted his curse? But does that matter? Does it even matter? Because she’s been holding her love for him inside for so long and she just has to let it out, she has to tell him no matter the consequences. She finally found her way back to him, she won’t let that go, and Rumple? Sweet, grieving Rumple, he hears her say that she loves him and it’s like oh. He can let himself believe it this time. Not many people are lucky enough to get a second chance but he not only has that, she’s essentially been bought back to life, it’s like she’s been reanimated and given another go at it. She was dead, not physically but in his eyes she was dead, and suddenly she’s not anymore- and she’s with him, alive and saying that she loves him. And it’s so true in her eyes and in her hands, in the way she touches him so gently, in how she’s not afraid to be with him. To be soft with him.

Ugh it’s just… 30 years, dude. 30 years. For some people that’s half a lifetime.

Is it just me, or was Hook the writers' favorite and Rumple their least favorite?

Because Rumple's character gets screwed over so many times, and every time it happens, who comes out looking more holy and heroic? If you said Hook, you'd be right.

What makes it even more annoying to me is that the show tries to present Hook and Emma's relationship as the best and healthiest (because it was the writers' favorite). However, instead of showing us reasons why it's healthy, they just make the other couples worse. For example, CaptainSwan got together in season 4 and that same year, Rumbelle was ruined and OutlawQueen was ruined because of Marian!

This isn't to say I hate Hook, because I don't. I wanted Hook and Rumple to be written well together.

(I also still ship CaptainSwan but still, this bugs me)

The moment there is a bit of cool weather where I live, all I can think about is rumbelle. I've been thinking alot about Lacey too so here are a few of the sketches I've done :)

Okay, I get they wanted a way to wrap up Rumple's arc in season 7 and wanted to show Rumple was capable of redeeming without Belle.

But guys, we were robbed of season 7 morally grey police officer Rumple and florist/author Belle having a dorky crush on each other. He would come into her shop every morning at the same time to pick up a bouquet of roses (but really, it was to see her adorable face). He was the only one she could talk to about her dreams of getting her book published because she was too scared to share them with anyone else.

Rumple would then awkwardly ask Henry to help him convince Belle to publish her book (and we could have had an episode with Henry and Rumple bonding like old times). Having Belle alive would have been the perfect opportunity to bring Gideon back into the story, so he wouldn't be a wasted character anymore.

(why couldn't we have this, it's already leagues above the annoying and forced relationship Henry and Jacina had)

Season 7 isn't bad, it's just wasted potential.

It was a chance to focus on characters other than the Charmings, but instead, they introduced boring new characters nobody cared about because focusing on villains or morally grey, complex characters is hard to write, and they couldn't be bothered to put in the work.
