Summary: A normal day in a life of married Janus and Patton, along with their toddler son Virgil. Or maybe it's not as normal as it usually it.

It had been a long day, working in the hot sun for so long. Janus had worked on one of the few buildings his company was hired to build. Mostly houses, but there were a few businesses as well. A new vet clinic for farm animals, a new group home, and a new kids center which should be up and running by the time Virgil is about three.
He stopped at his front door, toeing off his work books and going inside. A soft, deep âwoofâ was heard from Sassy, who came over to greet her human. The Saint Benard Janus set his shoes on the top rack, noticing that Virgilâs tiny converses were dirty, and Pattonâs favorite white shoes were covered in grass stains.
âPatton?â he called, setting down his cooler.
âIn the kitchen!â Patton called, followed by the sound of a tiny tot shrieking, something hitting the ground, and a soft: âOh dear.â
âYou didnât drop the baby did you?â Janus asked, humor coating his tone. When he got into the kitchen, he saw a purple cup on the ground and a few of Virgilâs puff treats had joined the cup.
âVirgil decided he no longer wants his food.â Patton laughed softly.
The said toddler was sniffling, hiding his face in his dadâs shoulder. He looked up, seeing his papa was home. Suddenly, the tiny boy started bawling, reaching out for the man. âPapa!â he wailed, his chubby face turning red.
âOh, what a drama queen,â Patton cooed, handing Virgil over to his husband. âHe must have really missed you.â
Like an octopus, Virgil wrapped his little arms around his Papaâs neck, bawling his eyes out. Janus hummed, rubbing up and down his back. Virgil was half dressed, only wearing a pair of pants and a diaper. Looking around, Janus noticed the kitty shirt that Patton had put on him that morning on the table.
âDid someone have a fun day, huh?â Janus asked softly, going over to the table to clean it off.
âYes,â a soft reply came.
âDaddy gave you spaghetti, huh?â Janus laughed softly, another quiet âyesâ from Virgil coming after that.
Janus headed out to the laundry, Virgil crying out in dismay when he noticed that his favorite blanket was sitting in the hamper.
âYou want your blanket, huh?â
âYes,â he whined, reaching for it.
Janus tossed the shirt into the purple hamper, pulling out the blanket. There was a big mud stain on it, so Janus put it back. âDirty.â
Virgil whimpered, but didnât say anything in retaliation. Janus went to leave when he noticed that the yellow and baby blue Hamper were getting full. âPapa has to do laundry this weekend,â He sighed softly.
He headed back into the kitchen, setting Virgil down. He headed over to Patton, who was stirring what he was cooking.
âWhatâs for dinner?â He asked softly.
âChicken Alfredo,â Patton was smiling, turning to Janus.
Janus gave a knowing smile. âOh? Whatâs the occasion?â He teased.
Patton wrapped his arms around Janusâ neck, his grin getting wider. âI dunno, I heard it was some special day.â
Janus hummed. âStrange,â he mumbled, giving Patton a peck on the lips. âIâm going to take Sassy out for a run in a few minutes.â
âMake sure to change afterwards,â Patton laughed. For a minute, he looked like he was thinking. âYou think we should get more hampers?â
Janus grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. âWhat for?â
âLike, to be more organized?â Patton wondered out loud. âWe could get a lot of hampers for like- Maybe like...â Patton grumbled, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. âMaybe not⊠It seems a little silly to think about it.â
âWell, why donât you explain it to me anyways?â Janus noticed that Virgil was snuggling up to Sassy. âThen I can decide if itâs really silly or not.â
âWell, I was thinking⊠you know how we have different colored hampers for each of us?â Janus made a noise of acknowledgment, wrapping his arms around Pattonâs waist. âWell, what if we had them like⊠on the wall, with more hampers? With white, black, and then another color. So we can have colored in the colored ones, whites in the white, blacks in the black-â he took a moment. âThat sounded bad.â
Janus laughed. âI understand what youâre trying to say. But why another color under the other three?â
âWell, what if I come home from work one day and I have pants on it? Or you come home with oil all over yourself? Or if we adopt an afab kid-â
âWeâre not adopting for a few years.â Janus reminded him.
âI know- I know, I justâŠâ He drawled off.
âWell, why donât you write the idea down and weâll get back to it later?â Janus suggested softly. âWe donât need to say a total yes or a total no.â
Patton nodded, then he perked up. âWe should get a Mastiff!â
âWeâre not getting another big dog,â Janus said sternly.
âRats,â Patton huffed. âWorth a shot.â Patton smiled softly.
âIt certainly was,â He laughed. âThink you'll be alright with being alone with Virgil for a little bit more?â
âIâll be fine,â Patton smiled. âThank you though, Jay.â
Janus kissed his head, going to the Foyer. âSassy!â He called.
Right away, the sound of a toddler going âoomphâ and dog nails clicking on the floor. Turning the corner was the big dog herself, happily waiting for her pink harness to be strapped on. Janus slipped on his tennis shoes, quickly tying them so they were tight.
âAlright,â he said, grabbing the harness. âYouâre probably pent up from staying in the house for so long.â
After a few minutes, he finally got the harness properly on. Sassy was a very happy pup, running around in the Foyer but never going out. The harness was multi-purpose, and wasnât just some straps. On the sides, there were pockets where he could store what he needed in them. He usually put poop bags, a collapsible bowl, a small bag of dog food, a small bag of treats, and a water bottle.
âCome!â Janus said sternly. Sassy came over and sat at his feet. He clipped on the leash, and Sassy was eagerly shuffling around. âWeâre heading out!â he called out
âStay safe!â Patton called back.
Janus headed out, closing the door. âHow long do you want to go?â
Sassy was sitting by his feet, looking from him, to the road, and back to him. She was waiting for him to give the okay.
âTen minutes?â He suggested. âSounds good.â
He started jogging at first, but he sped up easily to a sprint, a tight grip on Sassyâs leash.
The world seemed to disappear, all there was in the world was Janus and his dog, who seemed happy to just be existing alongside him. A lot of people say running away from your problems doesnât solve them, but Janus had to disagree; actively running was very therapeutic, at least for him. Even after eight hours of manual labor, hours of working in the sun, he still needed this run.
Where Janus had built the house was in the middle of basically nowhere, surrounded by fields of nothing. Their nearest neighbors were about a mile away, which had him kind of skeptical that they should stay in that place, but Patton reassured him that he could run a mile if something happened. It was surprisingly green, but thatâs not really why Janus chose the place.
After about five minutes of running, Janus slowed down and eventually stopped, Sassy next to him panting.
âLetâs get you some water,â He breathed out, opening up her pouches. He got out the water bottle and her bowl, expanding it. He poured out half the bottle in the bowl, and the Saint Bernard drank it up.
He sat down next to her, taking a few sips of water himself. A few minutes of peace, where all there was to hear were birds chirping and Sassy lapping up her water.
A few minutes later, Sassy was ready to go ahead. Janus got up, put everything away, and started home, repeating what he did but towards home. By the time he got home, which was about fifteen minutes later, the big girl looked tired and Janus felt it himself.
He went in and called out to Patton: âIâm back!â
âPapa!â A little voice screamed, and Virgil came running to him.
Janus easily picked him up, smiling. âVirgil!â He gasped back.
The tot made a face. âSmelly,â he scolded, nose wrinkled in disgust. Janus laughed, setting him down so the toddler could go toddle off.
âJanus, can you move the high chair to the dining room?â Patton called.
âThe dining room?â Janus asked, coming into the kitchen. âWe never use the dining room; just usually just use the nook.â
âI know,â Patton looked up from where he was putting the food into serving dishes, âbut I want to eat there tonight.â He smiled at his husband.
âAlright,â Janus relented, kissing his head before getting the high chair.
After setting up the chair, Janus went upstairs to his and Pattonâs room. He got out the clothes he wanted; a dress shirt and some nice dress pants. He picked out a yellow bow tie and a pair of socks. He found a pair of shoes- a pair that heâs only worn a few handful of times.
He hopped into the shower, not taking too long. He was in and out in five minutes. Instead, he focused more on his appearance. He combed back his hair, and considered shaving the five oâclock shadow. Then he remembered how Virgil liked the feeling when they were playing and he couldnât bring himself to do it.
He finished getting ready, looking at himself in the mirror. After a minute of considering, he got his blazer, one he hadnât worn since law school.
âHello old friend,â he laughed softly, putting it on.
He went downstairs, dirty clothes in hand. He tossed them into his hamper, his mind traveling to the idea Patton had earlier.
noticing that Patton himself had cleaned up a bit. Instead of his normal T-shirt, he was also wearing a dress shirt and tie. The dress shirt was wrinkled and already had a stain, but the fact that he even put on a tie meant that Patton wanted to look nice.
âMy handsome husband,â he purred softly, kissing his cheek from behind.
Patton laughed softly. âHelp me get Virgil into his chair?â
It didnât take too long to do that. When Virgil saw there would be pasta, he happily let his fathers buckle him in.
âReady for dinner?â Patton asked his husband
Janus nodded, sitting down. Patton put a scoop of Pasta into a small bowl for Virgil, along with some broccoli and cheese on the side. Janus served up his and Pattonâs plates, making sure to get as much healthy foods as possible.
âOh!â Patton turned to Janus. âRemember that bottle of Champagne your gay aunt gifted us two years ago?â
âAunt Kathy, yes.â Janus nodded to the thought. âWhat do you ask?â
âWe should get it!â
âItâs been sitting in the fridge since we got it.â
âThen itâs cold enough!â Patton looked excited, so Janus gave him a sigh and went to get it.
He first went to their regular fridge to see if he had left the champagne in there since it was gifted to them before Virgil had come into their life. When it wasnât there, he went to their second fridge, which is where they kept alcohol or their bulk drinks- like their Gatorade or bigger bulks of water. He found it sitting in the door of the fridge, next to other unopened bottles of wine.
Janus grabbed the bottle and went back to the dining room.
Virgil looked up from where he was eating his food. âYum!â He yelled.
âThatâs good stuff, huh?â Janus asked
âYes!â Virgil yelled back.
âHow do you always get him to reply?â Patton huffed.
âAsk him that.â
Patton rolled his eyes, getting up and going into the butlerâs pantry to get out the hardly used Champagne flutes. âYou want to open the bottle?â
Janus hummed his confirmation, which Patton accepted as a yes. Janus took off the wrapping around the neck of the bottle, putting his thumb over the cage and holding the bottle. He loosened up the cage, looking up to his family.
âCover his ears,â he said to Patton, who did as told. Janus held the bottle at the appropriate angle and pressed it to his body. He carefully twisted the bottle, letting the gasp escape until-
POP!
Janus pulled the cork away, holding up the bottle up with a look of victory. Patton cheered, clapping. Virgil was staring at the bottle in amazement, reaching out for it.
âNot for little boys,â Patton scolded, handing Virgil his half-water half-apple-juice.
The rest of dinner passed by, Virgil getting sleepier until he was half asleep in his chair. Patton and Janus only had one glass of champagne, so they werenât stumbling around and acting like idiots.
âIâll put him to sleep,â Patton said softly, âWhy donât you set up for tonightâs actual celebration?â
Janus smiled, leaning over and kissing Patton softly. âThat sounds amazing,â he whispered softly, making Patton smile softly.
Janus got up, collecting the empty dishes and taking them to the kitchen. Meanwhile, Patton got Virgil cleaned up and took him upstairs. Sassy was right behind them, knowing that it was the kidâs bedtime.
With the food put away, dishes in the sink to be washed tomorrow after breakfast, and a full stomach, Janus went out to the back porch, sitting down on one of the love benches that Patton was insistent that they needed.
He took off his blazer, putting it on the back of the bench. He loosened up hisÂ
He was only there for a few seconds before one of the doors opened and he turned around to see Patton coming out.
âSassy and Virgil are out like a light,â he sighed, sitting down next to him.
Janus pulled him close, kissing his head. âYou happy to have some quiet time?â He asked into his ear. A hum was the only reply that was given, and he didnât push for more.
Sitting there, in the quiet, was what they needed. After a day of work and a day of chasing around a toddler, they finally had the peace and quiet they wanted.
The silence was temporarily interrupted.
âHappy five years, Janus,â Patton said quietly.
It was a welcomed interruption
âHappy anniversary, my love.â

I actually really love this family now, but unless itâs another anniversary, requested, or I get Mega Inspired for it, I probably wonât write too much more for it.
Thank you for reading!

Eusoh Pet Health Plan Review
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Eusoh-pet-health-plan-name-meaning-eusocial-ants-bees-helping-each-other.jpg
One of the many things we needed to do when we adopted Mirabelle was to sign her up for pet insurance.
Weâve been with the same pet insurance company for a while. The prices have steadily been increasing over the years.
Initially, when I signed up for pet insurance 16 years ago, there werenât as many choices as there are today.
So, I decided it would be best to do some homework and compare the different plans and companies.
After taking the time to do the research, I thought it would be fun to share my Eusoh review. Â
About Eusoh
Eusoh (pronounced you-so) started in 2017 after the founder, Allen, Kamrava, MD, was able to raise $2M[1] to get his idea off the ground.
Kamrave was frustrated with the current state of the traditional insurance companies and had a vision of a better method for patients to pay their medical bills.
Eusocial animals include ants, bees, and even naked mole-rats!
After bouncing his idea off of others, he decided to launch his insurance plan with pets first.
Eusohâs name comes from the word eusociality, which is a level of social organization found in nature.
Specifically, it refers to communities that work together to care for one another, which is what Eusoh strives to embody.Â
Their mission statement is, âbetter, more affordable health protection for our pets and peace of mind for our finances!â[2]
According to Eusoh, they are not a pet insurance company; instead, they are a community of pet parents that aid to support one another to help pay for vet bills together. Â
Eusoh is not like a traditional pet insurance company like PetPlan. When you sign up with Eusoh, you join a âcost-sharingâ group of other pet parents.
To join a group, you need to request approval, which is then voted on by the other members in the cost-share community.
Pros
Aids in paying for most vet bills
Fairly economical
Only $250 annual out of pocket costs
Never pay more than $65 per month for the program.
Requests are approved by a Eusoh committee and not your group.
Cons
Does not cover spay or neuter costs
Does not cover routine dental cleanings
Membership is dependent on being approved by other members of a group.
Pre-existing conditions are not included.
How Eusoh Works
Eusoh sounds complicated, but in truth is a relatively straight forward program.
After setting up your account and being accepted into a group, you are then required to wait 30 days before you can submit requests.
However, once your grace period is complete, you:
Go to the vet
Pay your bill
Submit your vet bills for reimbursement either via computer or on your smartphone
Get reimbursed
Your reimbursement posts to your account during the monthly billing cycle, which is the 28th of the month
To collect your reimbursement, sign in to your Eusoh account and withdraw the money back into your bank account or debit card associated with your Eusoh billing.
Things to Consider When Buying Pet Insurance
Having insured by dogs for the last 16 years, I am a big fan of pet insurance.
Dogs can be expensive.
And, unfortunately, accidents and unexpected medical conditions happen and they can get pretty darn spendy.Â
For example, when Daisy had multiple strokes in 2017, she required over $5000 in medical care. Thankfully, insurance covered a fair portion of her bills, lighting the financial load.
Additionally, there are necessary preventative costs such as:
Vaccines
Monthly preventatives
Annual exams
Routine bloodwork
All of these things add up and insurance helps to offset some of these costs.
Pet Insurance for Senior Dogs and Pre-existing Conditions
Though I feel pet insurance is an excellent choice for most pet parents, it may not be suitable for senior dogs.
The majority of pet insurance companies will not cover pre-existing conditions, and if your senior has issues such as arthritis, they will likely not be covered.
However, on the flip side, if you adopt healthy senior dog, insurance might be the right choice to help with future medical costs.
One thing Iâve observed is that as my dogs get older, their medical expenses have increased.
Pet Insurance for Puppies
The ideal candidates for pet insurance are puppies since there are often several expenses in their first year.
Many of the vaccines require booster shots such as distemper, Lyme, and leptospirosis. Additionally, many pet parents opt to spay or neuter their puppies, and many insurance companies pay a portion of this service.
Before committing to a pet insurance plan, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Enrollment Guidelines
Coverage Details (Incidents, Treatments, Routine Care, Behavioral, Continual, Preventative Medicine)
Out of Pocket Limit
Deductible Amount
Pre-Existing or Predisposed Conditions
Exclusions
Waiting Period after Signing Up
Reimbursement Policy and Amounts
Annual or Monthly Costs
Features and Benefits of Eusoh
The benefits of choosing Eusoh to help cover your dogâs medical expenses are:
Minimal Monthly Fee
Your monthly payment is a minimum of $17 per month, with a maximum fee of $65.
The average monthly cost for insurance for a dog is $47.20[3].
Your monthly fee will only increase above $17 to replenish your base account amount of $48.
Over the last twelve months, the average payment for members was $35 per month.Â
Eusoh Does Not Profit from the Premiums Because There Are None
The majority of the fees associated with Eusoh is money that you will receive back throughout the year when you submit for medical expenses.
Eusoh earns a minimal amount of money in this program and does not benefit financially if they donât approve coverage for medical expenditure.Â
Single Coverage Plan
Eusoh has only one plan that covers accidents, illness, and general wellness costs.
Whereas, with many other insurance companies, you need to choose which type of coverage you want for your pup.
No Networks
You decide who your dog sees; all vet clinics are covered since there are no networks to think about in this plan.
Easy Receipt Submission Process
You can submit your vet bills from your smartphone.
What Does Eusoh Cover?
The Eusoh coverage plan reimburses for:
Injuries
Illness
Annual Checkups
Cancer
Hereditary Conditions like Hip Dysplasia
Congenital Conditions
Surgeries
Prescribed MedicationsÂ
Alternative Treatments
Wellness care
What is not covered:
Spaying or Neutering
Medicated Baths
Grooming
Declawing
Routine Medications (Flea/Tick/Heartworm)
Dental Cleanings
Non-Prescribed Supplements
Ear Cropping or Tail Docking
Routine Nail Trimming
Food
Breeding-Specific Expenses
How Much Does Eusoh Cover?
Eusoh covers 80% of the national average for the expense submitted after the $250 out of pocket has been met.
For example, if your first request were for a $1000 injury to your dog, it would look like this:
-$250 for out of pocket
-20% is your responsibility after the $250
80%, or in this case, $600, for reimbursement, if the amount was within the national average.
Although they do take into account the different areas of the country, since 80% of a vet bill from a small town vet may look very different than 80% from a vet in a more expensive area of town.Â
Unfortunately, where I live, the vet costs are higher than the national average, so my 80% reimbursements may not be covered as well as if I went to a less expensive vet hospital.
Unlike many other vet insurance programs, Eusoh uses this calculation for all of their expenses, not just injury or illness.
Whereas, other more traditional insurance companies a flat rate for certain services versus a percentage.
How Much Does Eusoh Itself Cost?
Here is the breakdown of costs for Eusoh:
The initial signup deposit is $48. The $48 deposit is where the funds to cover expenses come from, so when the deposit drops below $48, you are responsible for refilling your account.
Monthly fee of $17 plus the cost to bring your deposit account back up to $48.
If you cancel before one year, you will lose your $48 deposit, but no other cancellation fees are incurred.
So, each month you will never pay more than $65, which would only be if the full $48 deposit was used for medical expenses within your cost-sharing group.
Social Proof
I scoured the internet and found some user reviews that seemed rather positive.
Some of the things people like about Eusoh are:
Community-based program
A variety of community pools such as large breed dogs
Easy to submit claims
Additionally, they have been praised multiple times for their excellent customer service.
And I am in full agreement with this statement.
I had questions about the program; in truth, I was struggling with understanding how the community pool worked.Â
I was mildly surprised to find out that there wasnât an 800 number to call with my questions.
However, they do have a chatbot that will set up an appointment for a phone call or connect you to a representative for an online chat. I used the chat feature and was happy to have gotten my questions fully answered politely and efficiently.
Testimonials
Eusoh Alternatives
As I mentioned earlier, there are several plans on the market today, and here are a few other alternative options.
Pet Plan
Pet Plan is a traditional pet insurance program.
They offer similar coverage to Eusoh, including holistic care, illnesses, and accidents.
Additionally, they cover dental issues such as periodontal disease and oral injuries impacting your dogâs teeth, provided you keep up with annual dental exams. Â
The differences between the Pet Plan and Eusoh:
365 day curable exclusionary period on pre-existing conditions
$0 enrollment fee
15 day waiting period after sign up
No group approval needed to join
24/7 customer service via phone
42 years of experience
Preferred insurance provider to AARP and American Animal Hospital Association Â
Costs vary depending on multiple factors (The average price for a Labradoodle puppy in Philadelphia is between $24-$61.06, depending on which of the three plans you choose)
Pet Plan is the ideal company for those looking for a more traditional pet insurance plan.
If you are looking for a plan with a shorter wait time and one that has a higher coverage limit, click here to get signed up.
Companion Protect
Companion Protect covers accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
Additionally, they will cover some pre-existing conditions, though it must be one listed in their program.
The pricing for their program is non-breed-specific, but may be impacted by the age of your dog.
Companion Protect covers things such as cancer treatments, hip dysplasia, prescription food (some restrictions apply), and holistic care such as acupuncture and chiropractic care. Â
The differences between Companion Protect and Eusoh:
Billing structure
They have a vet hospital network (If you work with a clinic out of network you can still receive coverage, but the deductible is higher, and the wellness exam is not covered)
Covers 90% of the cost
Does not cover preventative or wellness care
Companion Protect is the ideal plan for those looking for coverage for the unexpected.
If you are looking for a more conventional insurance plan with a 90% coverage amount, click here to learn more.
Pets Best
Pets Best is a pet insurance company that offers unlimited care options.
They have multiple plans to choose from, with varying deductibles and choices that have no annual or lifetime reimbursement limits.
Additionally, like Eusoh, they do have some plans that cover general wellness.Â
Pets Best offers accident plans as low as $9 for any age dog and any breed.
The differences between Pets Best and Eusoh:
Multiple plans
Specific policies cover spay/neuter up to $150
Plans that cover flea/tick/heartworm prevention
Coverage reimbursement not solely based on a percentage
Less of a waiting period for most coverage: 3-day for accidents, 14 days for illness, and 6 months for cruciate tears
Pets Best is the perfect insurance company for those looking for more comprehensive coverage. If you are looking for a full-coverage plan, click here for a free quote!Â
Should You Get a Eusoh Pet Health Plan?
That depends on your situation.Â
If you have a multi-dog household and are looking for pet insurance to cover all over your pets, Eusoh has a multi-pet plan.
If this looks like your backyard, Eusoh may be the best choice for your wallet!
For the first dog, it is $17 per month, but for pets 2-4, it is $10 per month, and if you have five or more pets, those do not have a monthly fee. Only the $48 deposit needs to be maintained.
If you are considering a less costly monthly option with a lower initial fee that covers illnesses, accidents, and wellness care, Eusoh is an excellent plan for you.
If you are struggling with finding pet insurance because of your dogâs age or breed, Eusoh does not have those restrictions.
If you adopt a dog that is predisposed or have a dog that has the potential for specific chronic or significant health issues that have not yet manifested, Eusoh would be a good option to help with possible future medical expenses.
Conclusion
Having a multi-dog household that has suffered multiple injuries and illnesses, I can only be grateful that I have pet insurance.
Accidents and illnesses are just part of being a dog parent. And though many of us budget for vet bills, the unexpected ones can truly cause significant financial hardship.Â
However, if you have insurance and know you will be reimbursed for close to 80% of your vet bill, it is a lot less stressful to consent to the treatment or costly procedure.Â
Eusoh is a unique pet protection program with several benefits over its competition.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Eusoh is the community-based structure providing a program to help offset vet costs.
Additionally, Eusohâs one plan program, which covers wellness and the unexpected for a low monthly fee, is perfect for most dog parents. Â
Though it doesnât cover a few things such as spay/neuter, it does cover other values not often included by larger insurance company plans, such as prescribed supplements and holistic medicine.
Plus, your dogâs breed does not factor into Eusohâs program, so dogs that may be predisposed to certain diseases that would not be covered by most insurance may find Eusoh far more agreeable. Â

FAQs
How is Eusoh Different from Conventional Pet Insurance?
Eusoh uses a cost-sharing method to cover vet fees.
Customers join groups and the groups work together to help one another pay for vet bills.
Additionally, it has one single program as opposed to several options.
And, the monthly cost of the plan varies from month to month but never exceeds $65.
Where Is Eusoh Available?
Everywhere in the US.
Is My Dog Eligible?
All dogs are eligible, but you must be accepted into a group.
If your dog has a pre-existing condition and you specify you are not looking for coverage for that condition, most groups will accept your dog into their group. Â
