4. Plush With The Best Name
Tumblr media
This was a hard one, but I think I’d have to award this one to Wee Hen!
Warrior Cats is one of my oldest special interests, and the name “Wee Hen” always stood out to me—even though she was a loner who never actually appeared in a book! And since she’s a Little (Wee) Henry Hound, it felt like a brilliant name for her :)

Two Birds One Storm
heyyyy this is my first fic in a while also it’s not finished yet this is only part one so it’s a quick read if you’re interested! <3 inspired by this prompt by otp-fanfic-ideas
“Oh my, would you look at that?”
Mac raised her head with a slight curious hum in her throat at the sound of her voice, she looked over to see her .. em.. friend, sitting by the window of her hut, which was being rapidly spotted with heavy raindrops, making an aggressive tap.. tap tap.. tap.. tap tap sound on the glass.
Mac felt startled, she could have sworn she calculated this weeks weather to a T, and all accounts showed nothing but sunshine, but sometimes Mother Nature had a way of being particularly unpredictable. Either that or she had miscalculated, but Mac would rather believe the first thing than the second one.
“Why, it’s just raining cats and dogs” Daphne tsked, still observing the grey sky and the cloudy mist that now covered the island.
“Oh aye” Mac agreed as she joined Daphne at the window, looking up to study the clouds herself. “And that great big one looks like a cumulonimbus. An et looks like there’s more rolling in fast as et is.”
Daphne looked at her, a little confused at first but trying her best to remember what kind of cloud that was. She had been getting used to Mac’s way of putting things into very technical terms, on top of her thick Scottish accent- of which both she found endlessly charming- and she would hate to make Mac repeat herself, as she often had to.
After a couple seconds, Daphne was almost certain she remembered. “That means uh.. thunder right?”
Mac smiled at her, and nodded in approval. She gave a little "mhm!" as in 'that's correct!'.
"I must say hen, you're catchin' on faster than Mr. Rhodes ever did. Yer a fast learner!" Mac praised her with an approving grin and a wink. Daphne felt a small sense of pride swell inside of her when Mac said that, partially because she liked the feeling of being better than Rocky at something, but also because she liked that Mac felt understood by her.
“Maybe because we spend so much time together" she giggled.
Mac felt a little bit of a rush from that, a warmth filled her cheeks as she nodded. "Aye, that too." She looked back out the window,
After a few moments of staring out into the rain, it slowly began to dawn on Daphne that her hut was all the way on the other side of town, and getting there would be like hell in just the rain alone, let along when the storm starts picking up. She gently cleared her throat and stammered "W-well, I-I should probably start headin' out now"
Mac was shocked, what on earth was she saying? She couldn't go out in this weather. "What? Now? I donnae think that's such a good idea, lass."
Daphne sighed "If I don't get goin' now I'm not gonna make it home" she said, shaking her head, "and I would hate to be a bother to you"
The rain started to pick up more, followed by a loud crash that startled the two. Both their heads turned quickly back to the window, and their eyes slowly travled upwards to see clusters of rain clouds, more and more packing in as if they all had a personal vendetta against this one specific chicken-housing island. They could see tiny flashes of light coming from between the cracks of plush looking grey forms in the sky, but it wasn't sunshine like one would hope, the flashes were erratic and white, the lightning had already begun to start up.
"Hen, I cannae let you go out in that, ye could ge'y knocked over by de wind, lost in all de fog, shrivel up like a wee raisin from all the rain, catch hypothermia-"
Daphne watched as Mac counted on her fingers all the possibilities she could face if she went outside at this time, in an effort to get her to stop, she placed her wings overtop of hers.
"Alright, alright, I get it, I just.." She paused, shifting in her seat and taking a breath “I just don’t wanna impose, that’s all”
Mac shook her head. “Even if that was, hen, there’s no wey that wee half-built bit wuld keep you warm enough in this.”
Daphne hummed, looking back outside as she saw the first bolt of lightening hit the water around the island. She wasn’t able to get out a response in time as Mac has already gotten up from her seat.
“Sit tight while I put de kettle on.”
As Mac left to the kitchen to get started, Daphne watched her with guilty eyes. She didn't know what it was, but everytime she was being waited on by someone, it always felt off. Wrong somehow. She hated making people go out of their way for her, she didn't like the feeling that she was causing trouble or making someone get up, even when it was a simple of a task as brewing tea. So, she quickly got up from her seat.
"Wait" She followed after her,  Mac turned over her shoulder from where she stood, already at the counter with the kettle going, which had already begun to make its low steaming sound, a high pitched, barely audible 'phhhwwwwtttt' sound. Daphne came up beside her and plucked two tea bags from the little display Mac had placed on the kitchen top. Peppermint- Mac's favourite. "I'll get these for ya"
Mac smiled, holding out her hand to grab the two little bags. "Thanks hen" she said, reaching for them a bit further than she intended, and accidentally brushing her hand over Daphne fingertips.
phhhwwttt
Mac jolted, a gasp hitched in her throat. Her teeth clenched as she flinched her hand away, feeling that familiar warmth in her cheeks again. Her eyes flickered between her recoiled hand and Daphne’s face, hoping that she could read her expression just enough to predict what was going through her mind at that moment.
Ppppphhhwhwwttttt
Daphne wasn't all that suave either, she didn’t say a word, but her eyes spoke volumes. They wouldn't leave the spot on her hand that Mac accidentally touched, it was like she could still feel a ghost of what the sensation was like to have her feathertips brush hers. It was still warm. Still comfortable.
PPPPPHHHHWWWTTTTTTT
Her eyes darted back up to the maroon combed hen, who then turned away from her shyly and said in an awkward tone and held out her hand, palm up, instead for Daphne to place the bags in.
"Ah... sorry"
It was up until then that Daphne had completely forgotten about the tea.
“It’s alright…”

The water was ready.

Edinburgh To Boston Chapter 8 - The Morning After.
Tumblr media
Hello all, I am so sorry for the delay in posting this. It took a bit of time for all the corrections and rewrites that I had to do. I know some of you had read the preview but it has not changed too much.
I also want to thank everyone for their kind words and good wishes when I explained that things were delayed because my husband had taken ill.  He is well and back to himself.  I am adjusting to the new job and a little less crazy. A little I said.
I do need to thank two very special people @curlsgetdemgurls and @ladyviolethummingbird for being my betas on this chapter.  I don’t know what I would have done without them. They are the best.
I am not promising when the next chapter will be out except to say that it is underway. I dislike promising something that I can’t keep.
So without further ado, I give you:
Edinburgh to Boston Chapter 8 The Morning After
Jamie Fraser laid in his hotel bed watching the dawn slowly break over the frozen sleeping city. The sky underwent a metamorphosis transitioning from the inky black of night to the vibrant colors of the day.  Streaks of hot pink, vivid orange, and fiery golden yellow glowed in the heavens splattering across an underlying electric blue.  It was breathtakingly beautiful, so beautiful as to cause him to weep. But nothing could surpass the goddess who slept beside him. Claire. His Sorcha, his light.
Claire lay on her side, back curled into his chest. Their bodies fit well together. Each one piece of a puzzle when combined made a whole, a complete picture.
He ran his hands along the planes of her body becoming familiar with each dip and luscious curve. Her body, while thin and lithe, spoke of a woman’s sensuality. A hand drifted to cup that sweet round arse of hers.
Aye, plump and juicy like a fat wee hen.
He felt himself rouse just from the mere thought of her. She consumed him. The need left him wanting, needing. He knew he could take her again and again and it would never be enough.
Smiling tenderly, Jamie brushed an errant curl away from Claire’s face. Her hair, that glorious mane, spread out across the pillow a tangled, tousled mess. She would awake and be annoyed with it. There would be fussing, muttered obscenities, and futile attempts to tame it into some semblance of order. Chuckling, Jamie admitted that one of the things he loved about her (and truth be told, he loved everything about her) was her hair, as it truly represents who she is.  At times, she could be wild and free just like her curls. Most of the time she would confine her curly wig into a conservative bun. The reserved Dr. Beauchamp, her public persona. But, her hair would never stay in place. It always struggles to escape its confines and become free. He witnessed the wild and unrestrained side of his enchantress last night, giving and receiving pleasure without inhibition. She was simply magnificent. Jamie blushed at the thought of what they had done, hoping they could do that again soon.
Jamie yawned and stretched feeling each one of his vertebrae popping. He hadn’t slept much during the night. It was his duty to stand guard over his beloved as she slept. He was the Watcher of Her Sleep; The Guardian of her Dreams. Jamie snorted at himself.
“Becoming poetic are we, Fraser?”
He rolled his eyes at his own pretentiousness.
“Weel, if I’m becoming a poet, then she will be my poem.”
He grinned at the thought.
Eyes heavy and gritty from the lack of sleep, Jamie fought to stay awake. Wrapping his arms around Claire, he pulled her closer to his chest.  Taking in a deep breath, he inhaled her sleepy scent. Her fragrance comforted him allowing him to relax.  He settled himself spooning into her, back to chest, arse to groin, legs intertwined. The act while intimate soothed him. Jamie began to drift, feeling the pull of sleep and surrendered to it.
****************
The morning sunlight slowly crept along the floor clambering up the bed settling on Claire’s sleeping countenance rousing her from slumber.  Eyes squinting, she blinked adjusting to the harsh glare suffusing throughout the room.
“I should have closed those bloody drapes last night.”
Peering through narrowed eyes at the clock, it cheerfully blinked 9:43 AM. Claire attempted to shift to her side, wanting very much to return to sleep. This proved impossible as she was held in the steel embrace of a very large, very warm...very naked Scot. One arm wrapped around her chest, while the other came around her waist, tightening every time she tried to move.
“Christ, this is what it must feel like being caught in a bear trap.”
Claire chuckled to herself imagining Jamie as a great giant red bear. Jamie pulled Claire closer making huffing and snuffling noises into her hair.
Falling into a deeper sleep, his arms became limp, the vise-like grip momentarily relaxed. Quickly, Claire changed position her head now resting on Jamie’s well-muscled torso. She centered her ear over his chest, listening.
Lub-Dub, Lub-Dub, Lub-Dub, Lub-Dub.
The sounds of the strong gentle beat of his heart hypnotic, serene. She felt content and safe surrounded by his arms, sharing a bed with him. Nestling closer, Claire became aware of a hardness pressing against her belly.
“Hmm, penile tumescence,” Claire, ever the clinician, mused “He must be in REM sleep.” She wondered what he could be dreaming about, hoping it was her.
******************
“Hello, Claire, I see you have taken a lover,” said a cultured English male voice. Tall and thin, he had the athletic grace of a tennis player. An attractive chap with an aristocratic face, he possessed dark wavy brown hair, and eyes of hazel flecked with honey. Attired in a three-piece brown suit, white button-down shirt, and striped tie, the figure jammed one hand into his pants pocket, cocked his head to one side, projecting a rakish air.
“Hello, Frank. Why don’t you go get stuffed? While you’re at it, get out of this bed,” Claire said her voice laced with anger.
Frank chose to ignore Claire’s request.
“He is rather large is he not?” Frank sneered. “Is that what appeals to you these days, Scottish barbarians? Are you having fantasies about being dominated that you need such a brute in your bed? I recall Joe Abernathy had you reading those dreadful novels. Ghastly, really. I can just imagine the title: ‘The Scottish Barbarian and the English Rose’,” he laughed contemptuously. “TSK, I always thought you to be a refined lady of gentle birth,” he said in a reproachful tone.
“Frank, you never took the time to know anything about me or what I needed or wanted. But Jamie does. Now get out of my head! Go away!”
“How sweet! Jamie, is it? Hmm, sounds rather boyish, doesn’t it,” The Englishman mocked.
“I’ll have you know he’s no boy,” Claire growled vehemently.  “He’s more man than you’ll ever be.  Jamie is kind, gentle, funny, supportive of me, and most of all he loves me. He is everything I could possibly want in a man — something you wouldn’t know anything about. I really don’t know why I am having this conversation with you.”
“You know perfectly well why Claire. You called me here to fuel your insecurities, your inadequacies. I am a figment of your imagination, your dreams. You only have yourself to blame.”
“You know you’re right.  I did call you here. It’s to tell you I am no longer the frightened, insecure girl you knew. You can no longer intimidate me or make me feel inadequate. I have grown emotionally, and I found my self-confidence  — no thanks to you.  I am happy and in love. Yes, I am in love with Jamie. So, why don’t you just bugger off? Oh, and do us both a favor, don’t come back.”
“I’ll be back Claire when you call me again.” The fetch faded into the gray mist of her dream-world.
*************
It was late morning and the sky became a dazzling azure blue, vast and limitless. The sunlight reflected off the whiteness of the snow giving it an even greater brilliance.  As the sun climbed higher, the reflection from the golden beams struck the sleeping lovers rousing them from the land of Nod.
Jamie woke first, finding Claire snuggled in his arms, head still pressed against his chest. He lowered his lips and kissed her lightly on the forehead. Her eyes blinked, as she slowly moved toward wakefulness.
“Good morning mo chridhe, did ye sleep well?”
“Yes, yes I did. And you? Did you sleep well?”
Claire hated lying to Jamie, but she was loath to start the day talking about her disturbing dream.  She would tell him everything...later.
“Aye, I did. Better than I have in a long time.”
Jamie bent forward and kissed the tip of Claire’s nose, letting out a deep sigh of contentment.
“Are ye hungry a leannan?”
“Yes, famished. Aren’t you?” Claire looked up into his fathomless blue eyes.
“Aye, but what I’m hungry for is no’ on the menu.”
“I thought you would have had your fill of me last night.”
“Nah, never mo ghràdh.”
Jamie ran his fingers down the side of her cheek and along the sensitive skin of her neck. Claire shivered under his touch.  In return, her hand went to the nape of his neck and at feeling the soft curls, brought his head down to her mouth. His lips were soft and warm. She melted into his kiss; her heart fluttering in her chest.
“I could get used to waking up like this every morning,” Jamie said his bright blue eyes twinkling.
“So could I,” Claire whispered as she stroked the rough plush of his morning stubble.
His large hands caressed her back up and down before settling on her arse giving it a good squeeze.
Claire squeaked.
“Ye ken, Beauchamp, it was torture watching ye walk away from me in yer scrubs.  I’d see yer sweet fat arse swaying seductively as ye walked down the corridor. It took all my self-control not to throw ye over my shoulder, carry ye off, and have my way with ye on the spot,” he grinned.
Claire looked up at him offended,
“My arse is not fat, Fraser! I prefer to think of it as Rubenesque. More voluptuous, than fat.”
“Call it what ye will. ‘Tis fat. Just how I like it.”
With that, Jamie gave said arse a loving swat and got out of bed.  He stood naked by the side of the bed stretching luxuriously. Claire did enjoy watching Jamie move. His movements graceful, belying the strength and power his body possessed. Bending down, he retrieved his robe and put it on.
“Why don’t ye take a bath while I order up some breakfast for us?”
“Alright, that sounds like a good idea.”
Claire slipped out of bed while Jamie held open her robe wrapping her snugly in it.
Claire walked to the bathroom, ran the water for the bath adding a bath oil and bubble bath called Romance to the water. The bubbles blossomed up like white fragrant clouds filling the air with the scent of roses, sage, orange, and rosemary as they dispersed. Claire entered the tub, slid down until she was covered in the sweetly scented foam to her shoulders.
“Ahh.”
Sighing, she closed her eyes, enjoying the absolute bliss of relaxing in the water. The door opened and Jamie stepped in carrying two champagne flutes, the champagne, and the strawberries.
“Mind if I join ye, lass?”
“No, not at all.  There is plenty of room,” Claire looked up at him smiling.
Taking his phone from his robe pocket, Jamie put on some soft instrumental music, popped the cork on the champagne, poured the glasses, and placed a strawberry in each. Dimming the lights just a little, he removed the robe and joined Claire in the tub. Jamie moved with a natural elegance for such a large man, nimbly descending into the water without causing a wave or a ripple allowing them to face each other.
“Do ye no’ feel a wee bit decadent, mo chridhe? I’ve never done such a thing as this.”
He closed his eyes leaned back so only his head could be seen above the mass of bubbles and let out a contented sigh.
Claire giggled at the sight of him up to his neck in bubbles.
Jamie grinned and reached along the edge of the tub finding the champagne flutes and handed one to Claire.
“What should we toast to?” Jamie paused contemplating. “Ah, I have one. Here’s to a lady of grace, a woman of strength, a lass of astonishing beauty, and the woman that has captured my heart, Claire Beauchamp.”
Whether from the heat of the water, the nearness of Jamie, the effusive compliment, or all three, Claire’s face flushed.
Touching their flutes together, they sipped the champagne. When Jamie finished he retrieved the strawberry from his glass bit the bottom, causing the juice to flow freely.  Jamie ran the berry seeping its sweet-tart fluid over Claire’s generous lips, painting them a ruby red. He pressed the fruit to her lips teasing them apart with Claire accepted his gift.  She slowly chewed it all while her sultry amber eyes focused on him. A few drops of sweet liquid trickled out of Claire’s mouth settling onto her lips. Jamie leaned forward, eyes riveted on her mouth. His tongue swirled over her lips licking the nectar from them savoring the taste of the strawberry and her.  Her lips stained red were plump, sweet, and begging him to claim them.
“I would very much like to kiss you, Claire,” his eyes never wavering from her.
“I would like that very much,” Claire replied breathlessly.
Their lips met. His were soft, warm, with a hint of champagne. Hers were supple and sweet with a lingering taste of berry. Jamie's tongue quested across her lips seeking entry which Claire gave gladly. Their tongues met in a sweet caress, touching, stroking sending sparks and shivers through each of them. They broke apart resting forehead to forehead absorbing each other in through their breath.
“Turn around, I’ll wash yer back.”
Claire did as Jamie requested settling between his legs. Knees bent, Claire, rested her forehead on her thighs providing ample access to her back.
Jamie reached for the bath sponge. Soft and silky, he filled it with water adding the sweet-scented soap to create a rich creamy froth. He slowly began to massage Claire’s back, moving in circles working the foam into her skin. He lifted each arm, stroking up and down from shoulders to fingertips. Claire’s head rolled back falling against Jaime’s chest.
“Hmm, that feels so nice, Jamie.”
“Ye like it, a nighean? Why dinna ye rest yer back against my chest too?”
Claire willingly complied. Once more, Jamie loaded the sponge letting the soapy water trickle over her chest, between her breasts, and over her nipples. Slowly, unhurriedly, he brought the sponge down tracing a path down toward her belly. Claire made small mewling sounds deep in her throat.
“Move yer legs apart, lass. ”
The silkiness of the sponge contrasted with the pressure Jamie applied to her apex.  Claire began to shift and writhe in time to Jamie’s movements. Her mouth opened breath becoming shallow. She began to whimper. Claire placed her hand over Jamie’s adding to the already delicious sensation he was creating. Her lips moved not making a sound. A curse perhaps, or was it a prayer in supplication?
“Ye like this, lass?”
Jamie’s arousal grew, the need for her surging.
“Yes.”
Claire began to squirm, twisting her body. She needed his mouth, needing to feel it against hers. She leaned in, their lips meeting giving him a soul-searing kiss, igniting a blaze of passion that threatened to devour them both
Jamie rose up with the water streaming off his chiseled body. He looked like Poseidon rising from the depths of the ocean.
“Mo ghràdh, I must have ye or die!”
Claire raised her arms up to him.
“Then have me.”
Jamie lifted Claire from the bath. She would be his Venus, nascent from the sea.  Her arms were wrapped securely around his neck; her face buried in his chest. His strength supported her, cradling her against him. In two strides, he moved from the tub to the vanity countertop. While one arm supported Claire, the other swept the counter top clearing it of bottles, tubes, jars, and soaps sending them flying across the room. He had no care for the shamble he was creating, no attention to spend on it. His breathing was rapid and eyes now dark with lust. He placed Claire on the cool marble countertop nudging her legs apart. Jamie came closer settling between them. He needed to touch her. He ran his hand down the valley between her breasts, across her belly, and resting on her hip.
Ah Dhia, her skin is so smooth, so soft. It shimmers like a pearl newly pulled from the sea.
His hand dropped between her thighs wanting, needing to touch her. The tender flesh of her thighs opening wider inviting his fingers to roam over the satiny skin.
“Kiss me, Jamie.”
Jamie licked his lips, leaned in claiming her mouth.
Surrendering to the driving force of his kiss left her breathless, and wanting. An aching tension grew between them igniting the flames of their lust.
Jamie spied the mirror behind Claire. Dripping with condensation, he swiped at it clearing the steam obstructing his view of them. He could watch; he could see what he was doing to her.  He didn’t think he could get any harder but the thought of watching made his cock so hard he didn’t think he could feel it anymore.
Leaning back on her arms, Claire spread herself wide in invitation. Jamie took his cock in hand and began to rub it against her sensitive tissue, making her moan.  He placed himself at her entrance and in one swift motion slid home.
Claire gasped at the sudden intrusion into her body.
“God! Jamie!”
“Lie back a nighean. I want to love ye thoroughly.”
Claire complied. Taking her legs he placed them upon his shoulders. His thumb moved to the center of her arousal, stroking building sensations of molten waves of pleasure through her. Joining to her in their heated flesh, he moved sliding in and out of her, watching himself.
“Look in the mirror as I take ye. See how I love ye.”
Claire craned her head, looking into the mirror she saw the ecstasy and agony of pleasure and passion across Jamie’s face. Struggling to find purchase, her nails grasped vainly at the slick marble countertop.
“Help me up, Jamie! I want to see us.”
A large strong hand supported her back allowing her to sit up; the other pushed her head down. Legs widely spread Claire could see him take her, watching him thrust into her, possess her. They became one.
It became more than she could endure. This was the most erotic thing she had ever done, becoming both participant and spectator.  Moaning loudly, her hips began to gyrate wildly. She could hear the thrum of her blood as it coursed through her body. She could no longer focus her arousal was complete.  There was only pure sensation, pure pleasure.
“Jamie! I can’t...I...I… Oh, God Jamie!”
Claire’s nails raked down Jamie’s chest leaving angry red marks in their wake.  She felt herself flood around him. Her climax shattering. Her Scot was not far behind.
“Claire! Oh, God! Claire!,”
Jamie shuddered spilling himself into her. He leaned forward biting her at the juncture of neck and shoulder. He trembled in the aftermath of their love. They clung to each other as they descended from the throes of their passion.
Jamie looked at Claire somewhat abashed. Helping her down from the countertop, he dampened a face cloth and offered it to her.
“Claire, I never...that is, I didn’t mean... Oh, Christ!”
Face flaming, he grabbed his robe and left the room; leaving Claire puzzled.
Have I done something wrong?
Claire straightened up the room, picking up the bits and pieces that had been unceremoniously thrown onto the floor.  Putting on her robe, she arranged herself into some semblance of order and walked out into the room.
Jamie was standing with his hands in his pockets staring out the large window onto the street below.
Boston was trying to dig itself out. Sanitation trucks with large plows attempted to make the streets passable again.  Merchants with shovels and snowblowers cleared their walkways from the mounds of snow. People slipped and slid on the sidewalk while others endeavored to walk around the piles of drifting snow with varying degrees of success.
Absorbed in his thoughts, Jamie saw none of it.
How could I treat her like this? What is wrong with me to use her in such a way? She must think me a beast or an animal.  I don’t deserve her.
Disgusted with himself, Jamie hung his head in shame and embarrassment, unable to face Claire. So deeply lost in his thoughts he didn’t hear her enter the room.
“Jamie are you alright? Please tell me what’s wrong. Was it me? Was it not good? I’m sorry.”
Claire bit her lip nervously. Frank had always made her feel inadequate in bed. She did not want to disappoint Jamie. She couldn’t bear it.
Jamie turned to look at her with eyes wide in disbelief. His voice soft, halting,
“Claire, what are ye talking about? Ye did nothing wrong, lass. It was me.”
His shoulders slumped and he had difficulty maintaining eye contact.
“I’m the one who should be apologizing to ye for my behavior. Or lack of it.”
He continued gazing at a place in the distance that only he could see.
“I dinna want ye to think, I mean I dinna want ye to feel that I only want ye for…”
Jamie waved his hand vaguely in the direction of the bed.
“Jamie, I don’t know what you’re talking about. You did nothing wrong. Why should you apologize to me?”
“Claire, my Da taught me that women were to be respected, revered especially ah, in sex. He said that when ye love a woman, ye should pay tribute to her body as it is her right. I dishonored ye, lass. What I did was selfish. I have no claim on ye. I am no’ yer husband. I did not consider ye. And for that I must beg yer pardon.
Jamie began to pace about the room, restless running his hands through his hair.  He turned facing Claire, “Christ do ye no’ ken how much I love ye?  Ye are the air that I breathe, the blood of my heart. Without ye, I am naught but an empty shell. Your face is my heart mo ghràdh and the love of you is my soul.
“Ye see I want this, want us to be more. I want something we can build on, grow with. No’ just some magnificent weekend and then we part. That’s not good enough, Claire. Not for me and certainly not for ye.  Ye deserve better.”
Jamie was stiff and rigid, fighting to control his emotions. He did not want to lose Claire because of one foolish mistake.
Claire was touched by his concern for her and her feelings. She walked around to face him, cupping his face in to get him to meet her eye.  Jamie resisted.
“Look at me, please. You did nothing wrong. I wanted you to.”
Claire spoke softly and tenderly.
“You make me feel beautiful, sexy, desirable, loved, wanted, safe. How can these things be wrong?”
Jamie turned looking at her, a single tear running down his face.
“Do ye mean it, Claire? That’s how I make ye feel?”
Claire thumbed away the tear. Standing on tiptoes she leaned in and sweetly kissed him on the lips.
“Yes, and so much more. I love you, Jamie Fraser.”
Jamie sniffed, a crooked smile on his face
“And I you.”
He wrapped his arms around her pulling her close.
“Well, now that is all out of the way let’s have some of this delicious breakfast that you ordered for us.”
“Oh, and Jamie,” Claire said mischievously, “the next time you want to do it in front of a mirror, just make sure I can see your sweet arse in action, aye?”
A devilish grin played across her face as she turned and walked away leaving Jamie standing with his mouth agape.

In which Bolin plays with toys and Eska fails at flirting
I’m going to have to think up a title for this story soon.  I was thinking maybe “Into Open Waters.”
“How dare she? How dare she?”
Eska paced around the room, trying her hardest to keep her voice low so as not to disturb Kinalik.  The stress of the previous sleepless night, their escape in the wee hours, the sheer physical effort required to waterbend all the way to Republic City with a toddler and luggage in tow, the energy required to interact with people in a strange place…all of it was consuming her.
She collapsed in a chair, her body shaking and angry tears streaming down her face, which made her feel all the worse; like she was no more mature than her daughter.
Did their courtiers think that the twins did not hear the snickers and whispers of “half breed?” And yesterday…they had all looked at Kinalik like she was a monster. They felt that their only option was to get her out of there.
“I was trying to explain, but she wouldn’t listen!” she moaned to her brother.
“Perhaps she felt the same about you,” Desna offered cautiously.
“Perhaps,” Eska muttered, making an enormous effort to control her crying.  “I have no harsh feelings towards our cousin’s significant other; she is not nearly as uncouth as the others.  I was just…trying so hard not to cry in front of them that I forgot to thank her.   People only seem to care about what I do incorrectly; not what I do the appropriate way.  Yes, I know you are an exception, brother,” she hastily added to ward off his protests.  She furiously scrubbed the tears away.
“I recommend that we go to sleep right now and ponder the matter further in the morning,” Desna said.
“Yes…that would probably be wise.”
Eska was worried that she’d have problems falling asleep like she often did in locations that weren’t home.  However, the rhythm of Kinalik’s breathing soothed her, and the trio was soon huddled together in a deep slumber.
When Eska woke up who-knows-how-late in the morning, her back was throbbing in pain.  She supposed it was to be expected with all the exercise and lifting that she did yesterday. Even attempting to roll over caused her to moan. Thankfully, Desna had already awoken, and was ready with the bowl of water. He and Eska silently healed each other, then Eska also healed Kinalik, who was uninjured but wanted to do what the grownups were doing.  It didn’t get rid of all the pain, but reduced it enough to allow her to perform the usual morning functions and help Kinalik with hers.
When they got downstairs to the breakfast room, Korra was sitting there alone.  She had finished her own meal, but there was still a pot of tea and a plate of steamed buns filled with bean paste on the table. Eska was impressed to see that they’d remembered about Kinalik’s noodles, and that the child’s chair had a pile of cushions on it in lieu of a booster seat.
“Asami’s in the shower,” Korra said in response to their unspoken query.  “She likes to fiddle around in her workshop first thing in the morning when she’s feeling upset.”
Even Eska could tell that the last few words were pointed.  “Hm,” was all she could trust herself to say in response as she grabbed a bun.
“Does she eat anything else?” Korra asked, referring to Kinalik.  That was a somewhat safer topic, at least.
“Rice. Eggs.  Apples peeled and cut to slices exactly ¼ inch thick.  Arctic hen.  Some types of fish; she seems to change her mind about exactly which types by the day,” Eska answered.  She stopped to think.  What else was there?
“We have been having modest success in getting her to eat kelp,” Desna reminded.
“Oh yes.  The first time she ate that was a triumphant occasion indeed.  And before you ask, cousin, we do give her a daily multivitamin.”
“I wasn’t going to ask,” Korra said quickly.  She took a sip of her tea and said, “I wonder if she’d like Narook’s?  They have a kid’s menu.”
“Is it noisy?”
“Dinner can be…lunch is usually quieter.”
“We will consider it.”
They were spared from doing further chatting for the moment by Asami entering the room, fully dressed but with a towel wrapped around her head.  Korra looked at Eska expectantly.
Eska supposed that this was her cue to apologize.   Damn it.  She’d never cared about the feelings of anyone outside of her family before.
“I’msorry,” she mumbled while looking down at her hands.  This seemed to satisfy the requirements for now.
“It’s okay,” Asami said.  “I know you must have been under a lot of stress.  Now, is this enough food for you?  We could have the cook make something hot…”
“This is sufficient,” Desna assured her.
Asami sat down as well and got her own breakfast, and apparently decided that it would be best to get right to the point.
“So…Korra said that you were concerned about Kinalik’s safety…”
“That is one way to phrase it.”
“So exactly how deep into hiding did you want to go?”
Good question.
“We hadn’t thought things through that far yet,” Desna admitted.  “All we were hoping for was to buy a few days of time to strategize. That was why we chose not to stay at a hotel.”
“Simply arriving at this destination was the main objective.  They will discover our location sooner or later, but I doubt that they would take our lives here.  Nevertheless, we should take precautions,” Eska added.
Korra and Asami stopped to think, and then Korra said, “Well, you do have one thing going for you.  You’re fairly obscure.  Probably all that most people in Republic City know about you is that you’re those creepy twins.”
Eska clenched her jaw, and willed the angry words ready to spring from her back down her throat. She didn’t want another argument to start so quickly.  Desna appeared to be having a similar struggle, but was able to state in an even tone, “We do like our privacy.”
While they had been talking, Kinalik had finished her noodles and was getting bored.
“Down!” she commanded.  Eska rose to help her off the cushions, and sat back down with her daughter in her lap.
“And that’s another thing,” Asami said.  “I didn’t even know of Kinalik’s existence until yesterday, and I don’t think Korra did either.”
“They may have mailed something,” Korra said.  “But I was kind of distracted at the time.”
“We did air a birth announcement on the radio,” Eska remarked.  Granted, it had run only once.  At 6 AM.  Neither the twins nor their advisors had wanted to call much attention to it.
“Well, anyway, if all that the general public knows about you is that you’re twins, we’d want to make you look as unalike as possible.  Plus, the weather’s much too warm right now for your regular wardrobes. We’ll need to shop for new clothes, and one of you might have to cut your hair.”
Asami looked over at Desna, but Eska quickly said, “I’ll do it.”  Desna had done so much for her; it was only fair that she should be the one to make this sacrifice.
“I have to go get the rest of my stuff this morning, but…hold on, let me write this down,” Korra said.”  She retrieved a notebook and pencil from a side table.
“Asami, could you take them downtown this afternoon?  I’ll probably want to rest, and you’re the one with the style sense. And um…I still can’t drive that well.”
“Sure, but maybe one at a time?  Whoever is after them would be looking for twins.”
“No prob. Desna, you okay with waiting until tomorrow?”
“Whatever you think is best,” Desna answered, albeit apparently with some unease about them being separated.  The twins squeezed hands under the table.
“Bolin might want to join us,” Asami remarked.  “You know how he is about makeovers.”
“Oh, yeah, whoops, I forgot about Bolin.  And we were going to do a proper introduction today.”
“I wonder…” Asami trailed off as Korra scribbled away.
“Hm?”
“I was just thinking about how to make all this more pleasant for Kinalik.  I think I have an idea.  You go over to Air Temple Island.  I can take care of arranging things.”
“’Kay, love you.”
They kissed.  Eska was relieved.  All of the talking had been making her dizzy.
After Korra had finally departed, Asami got Eska, Desna, and Kinalik situated in the living room. Unlike the more formal parlor they’d seen on the tour yesterday, this room was stocked with comfortable furniture, which was a blessing for Eska’s back.  It was decorated with plush carpeting, wooden paneling, several paintings, and a tall bookcase in the corner.  Eska made a beeline for the latter and thumbed through the selection.
While Eska was busy with her browsing, Asami used one of the mansion’s many phones to call Bolin.
“So what do you think about coming over here shortly?  Makeovers may be involved.”
Eska could hear Bolin’s shriek of joy from clear across the room.  Asami had to hold the receiver at arm’s length until he calmed down.
“I take it that’s a yes?  Okay, what time?  Yeah, I think we can do that.  So see you…oh?  What is it?”
She listened for a few seconds, then said, “Well, I’ll ask them,” and covered the receiver with her hand.
“Eska, Desna, Bolin says that Opal wants to come meet you.  Is that okay?”
Eska was intrigued in spite of herself.  She wanted to see just what sort of powerful woman had managed to ensnare her ex’s heart.
“It is all right with me.  Desna?”
“Me as well.”
“Great!” exclaimed Asami.  She turned back to the receiver and said, “That’s a yes from both of them.  See you in a few, then?  All right.  No, Pabu had better stay at your apartment this time. Bye.”
She hung up the phone, then left the room, saying vaguely that she had to “get things ready.”
Eska, in the meantime, had found several recent issues of Republic City Style.  She had first encountered this publication in the storage room of the library back home, and knew that it was trash, but had been unable to stop reading these chronicles of uncivilized famous people and their clothing.  And it definitely wasn’t because she was jealous of them and their hedonistic lives!  No, if ever asked, she would claim that it was simply anthropological studies.
“All right, let’s see who Ginger is dating now,” she murmured as she sat down to look at the pictures with Kinalik.
“May I have one?” Desna asked.
“You may.”
They were deeply engrossed in their reading material, with occasional snorts of incredulity from the twins and squeals of “Pretty!” from Kinalik, when they heard something being hauled down the stairs and dragged into the living room.
“I found that box of t-o-y-s that I was telling you about yesterday!” Asami said as she beamed. She had removed her towel, and looked no worse for wear from the exertion.  Eska wished that she could look that put-together.
“So I was thinking that Bolin could help Kinalik look through these, and that maybe she would warm up to him more if she associated him with a positive thing like that.”
Kinalik perked up at the mention of her name.  Eska thought that this was actually a clever idea, and wished that she could have thought of that herself.
“Shall we see what is contained in here?” Eska asked Kinalik. Her daughter didn’t answer verbally, but appeared happy for the first time since they’d left the palace.
As Asami left to get some scissors with which to open the box, the doorbell rang.  The door was opened shortly thereafter, presumably by the butler…what was his name again?
“We have arrived!” Bolin announced as he bounded into the living room, followed closely behind by Opal.  “And…hey neat, what’s that?”  He gestured at the box.
Asami explained her idea to him as Kinalik removed the first item from the box: a stuffed animal in the form of a cat-owl.
“Great, sounds great!” Bolin enthused as made to sit down right next to Kinalik, then caught himself in time and picked a spot a respectful couple of feet away.
Asami had certainly never been lacking in any amusement as a child; Eska felt a twinge when she remembered how her own toys had been taken away when she wasn’t too much older than Kinalik.  There were stuffed animals of all sorts (yes, including a turtleduck and a koala otter), dolls, and Satomobile models.  Thankfully, nothing was in that box that would pose a choking hazard; Eska presumed that Kinalik was smart enough not to put toys in her mouth, but one never knew for sure.
Kinalik was insistent on doing the unpacking herself, and kept most of the toys to herself, but every so often she would shyly offer one to Bolin.
“Thank you!” he exclaimed at her latest offering of a stuffed animal that was so worn that Eska couldn’t even tell what it was supposed to be.  “Do you wanna know something, Kinalik?  I don’t remember what toys I had when I was your age.  I wish I did.  So this is really as exciting for me as it is for you!”
Kinalik scrunched her nose, and either because she didn’t know how to respond or didn’t have the words, settled for “Okay.”  But she did hand over a toy truck to him.
“Oh, she’s just adorable!” said Opal, which slightly startled Eska because she’d been so focused on the scene across the room.  She was seated at the opposite end of the couch from the twins.
“Yes,” Eska answered.  She and Desna switched places so that there would be no one between Eska and Opal. Then she remembered.
“I have on my possession a copy of Kinalik’s birth certificate,” Eska stated as she took the piece of paper out of her pocket.  “It contains proof that Bolin was not being unfaithful to you.  Not with me, at least.”
Opal didn’t move to take it.
“It’s okay, I believe you.  Really,” she said.
It was just that easy?  Eska had been anticipating a more frosty reception.
“So what do you think?  Can we be friends?” Opal asked as she smiled gently.  She extended her hand, and Eska forced herself to make eye contact while tentatively reaching her arm out as well.  But she only had the nerve to brush Opal’s fingers with her own.
Just then, there was much excitement from the duo on the floor.  Having removed all of the toys from the box, they had reached the best part…the packing paper.  Kinalik reached for a particularly large piece and gleefully ripped it in half.
“That makes a cool sound, doesn’t it?” Bolin observed.
Kinalik studied the two halves in her hand, and then crumpled one up, walked over, and reached up to place it on Bolin’s head.
“Oh wow!  A hat!  Just what I always wanted!” Bolin said with all evidence of sincerity.  He tossed his head ever so slightly, and the paper fell to the floor.
“OOPS!  It fell off!  How clumsy of me!”
Kinalik looked at him, then at the paper, then back at him.  And she laughed.
This was something that even Eska herself rarely elicited from her daughter.  She wished that she could telepathically transmit to Bolin the significance of this event.  But as he glanced over it her, it seemed that he already knew to some extent.
Shortly thereafter, Korra returned, and while the servants transferred her things, Asami herded them all into the main dining room for lunch.  Evidently, Korra had informed her partner of Kinalik’s preferences, because the meal was omelets…plain for Kinalik and with vegetables for everyone else.  Kinalik actually ate most of hers, and even sampled a piece of mushroom from Eska’s plate without spitting it back out.
When that was concluded, Desna put Kinalik down for a nap while Eska ventured out into the great unknown.
For what felt like the millionth time, Eska felt the ends of her now shoulder-length hair.  It felt exceedingly strange to not have it hanging halfway down her back.
Also, the hairdresser had insisted on using hair clips to pin her bangs back.
“You have such a perfectly-proportioned forehead!” the older woman had gushed.  “And such delicate eyebrows.  Why would you ever want to cover that up?”
At least it might work as a disguise.  And Asami and Opal had wholeheartedly agreed with the stylist.  They had tried to get Bolin’s opinion as well, but he held up his pointer finger for silence.
“Please don’t disturb me.  I have attained manicure Nirvana,” he stated in an exaggerated whisper.
When Bolin had finally descended back down to Earth, they went clothes-shopping.  First they got some everyday items.  Eska was rather embarrassed that she had to wear clothing from the Juniors section due to her petite frame, but she managed to tolerate the shopping long enough to attain several new outfits.  The store had a changing room in case one wanted to wear an outfit out of the store, so Eska had changed her regular tunic and leggings for a sky-blue shirt with cap sleeves, white pants that fell just below the knee, and white sandals.  It was odd to have so much of her skin exposed in public, but it was amusing to imagine how the dreaded councilors back home would react.
She was taken aback when she realized that she would have to help carry her own belongings for the first time in her life, but decided not to argue.
Then Asami had remembered about Korra’s party, to which Eska hadn’t realized that she was invited, so they went to a more upscale boutique that specialized in Water Tribe inspired designs to find a dress.  Of course, the one that caught Eska’s eye was too large for her, so she would have to come back later for fitting.
By the time that was over, all of them were loaded with shopping bags and getting tired, and Eska’s back was acting up again.  She still didn’t understand why some girls and women did this for fun.
“There’s a bubble tea shop just down the street.  Let’s stop there,” Asami suggested.
Eska was about to inquire what bubble tea was, but her thoughts slammed on the brakes as a horrific sound rose from the corner next to the tea shop.
“What. Is.  That?” she demanded as she jammed her fingers inside her ears.
“That’s a trombone,” Opal answered.  She and Asami rolled their eyes at Bolin, who was edging nervously closer toward the tea shop door.
Even leading such a sheltered life, Eska had heard of street musicians.  But she had been under the impression that most did it for money.  There was no tip box beside this man’s feet, so either he was just doing it for fun or wanted to cause all pedestrians an agonizing death.  Probably the latter, she thought.
“I am going to ambulate over there right now and inform that man that he must cease and desist immediately,” she declared.
“Maybe…just going inside would be a better idea?” Bolin offered.  “Come on quick, before he sees us!”
Bolin dashed inside, and the three women had no choice but to follow, Opal and Asami both making noises of disapproval.
They got their orders and sat down.  Eska had assumed that the bubbles would be some form of carbonation, but they were actually solid spheres.  She guessed that it was not called “sphere tea” because it didn’t roll off the tongue as easily.  In any case, the spheres had a pleasantly chewy texture.
Meanwhile, Asami was still scolding Bolin.
“He’s a much better person now and you know it!” she said.
“He still scares me!”
“Well, I invited him to the party, so get used to him.”
“You what?  Oh frick…here he comes.”
The door abruptly swung open as if accompanied by a musical cue, and Trombone Man walked in like he owned the place.  To Eska’s relief, he had put away that torture device for the present.  Wait…why was he making a beeline to their table?
“Hi, Tahno!” Asami said cheerfully as Opal waved.  The latter elbowed Bolin, who squeaked out a “Hi!”
The name rang a bell.  Eska tried to recall where she’d encountered it.
“Now who is this lady here?” Tahno the Trombone Man asked.  “I don’t believe that I’ve seen you here with the Uh-vatar’s crowd before.”
Eska assumed that he was referring to Opal.  But after several seconds, she realized that he was looking at her.  Just in time, she remembered how she knew of him.
“I saw you in the magazines,” she said.  “Except then you weren’t there anymore.  And then you were, but not quite as often.”
“Guilty as charged.”
Was he flirting, or just making fun of her?
Eska rose from her seat and affixed her best glare.
“Your subpar pronounciation irritates my auditory receptacles.  As does your so-called musical talent.”
The look she was giving him would have sent a whole room full of courtiers fleeing.  But Trombone Man just laughed.
“Oh, did I offend you, Ice Queen?”
Did he know?  At any rate, Eska realized that he towered over her by at least a foot, despite her drawing herself up to as full a height as her back would allow.  This would not do.
“If I am the Ice Queen, then you are my subject.  I demand that you swear fealty to me by kneeling.”
She heard three sharp intakes of breath.  But kneel Tahno did, after only a brief pause.  He kept his eyes and his smirk on Eska.  Eska remained outwardly composed (at least she hoped so), but her heart was starting to pound…from anxiety or from something else?
“Of course…you do know what this means, Ice Queen?  Now I must kiss your hand.”
Eska barely had time to process the words before Bolin leapt in between them.
“O-kaaaayyy!” he exclaimed louder than he had to.  “I know we’re all having a wonderful time here, and it was great seeing you again, but look at the clock!  We really have to be going now, so bye and see you at the party, I guess!”
He herded the trio of women out the door, drinks, bags, and all.  Eska didn’t know whether she wanted to thank him or throttle him.
“That was interesting,” Eska mused as they walked back to the Satomobile.  “However, I doubt he would show the submission required to be my husband.”
Bolin choked on his last sip of tea.
“Mental images, Eska!  Mental! Images!” he gasped out.
At least he was starting to show his true self around her.

My Best Friend, My Brother
This is a Secret Santa gift for @flyboytracy who asked for the BroTP of Scott and Virgil.
Here we have it - wee Tracy’s, Momma, and brothers reflecting.
I hope you like it Thor!!
~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**
Scott Tracy nestled against his momma’s side and stroked the swelling of her belly that contained (apparently) his new baby brother.  He giggled as he did so, feeling lumps and bumps that weren’t readily apparent under his mother’s loose shirt.
Lucy smiled down at her young son, one arm around him and the other resting on her belly.  “Not long now, Scotty, until baby arrives.  He already likes you.  Momma can tell.”
Scott grinned, his vivid blue eyes wide and he hugged her belly.  “Love baby too, Momma.”
“I know.  You are going to be the best big brother to baby.” The sound of keys rattling in the door made them both look up to see Jeff entering and looking relieved as he stepped into the air conditioned room, neatly hanging up his uniform tunic, tucking his cap into the pocket.  As he stripped off his tie and flung it over the tunic he bend down and caught up Scott as he ran on two chubby legs towards his much loved father.
“How’s my boy today?” Jeff said, swinging him high into the air, to the great joy of the small boy.
“Daddy, daddy!”  Scott clung like a monkey to his father and proceeded to happily babble away about the day  - most of which Jeff couldn’t understand but he smiled and nodded anyway as he sad on the couch next to his wife and kissed her lovingly.
 “And you, my Lucy?”
She returned the kisses and rested her head on his shoulder.  “I’m going to be pleased when this one makes his appearance,” she said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not much bigger than Scotty.  Fortunately he seems to be a lot more placid.”
Jeff kissed her on the head. “It wouldn’t be hard,” he said, stroking her belly.
“He loves music already. When I play or listen I can feel him snuggling inside me – quite content.”   She felt a small hand patting her and smiled adoringly at her son who was sitting on his father’s knee and patting her.  “And he also responds so well to Scott.  I can feel him reaching for him.”
Jeff shook his head.  “The fancies you have,” he said.
Lucy just smiled.  “You’ll see.  I was right about Scott.”
**~~**~~**~~**~~
Scott was frightened. Even though Grandma and Grandpa were with him, Momma and daddy weren’t.
Momma had said that she and daddy were going to get the baby and would be back, but that was hours ago!  Scott had had lunch and his afternoon nap since then!  What if Momma never came back?   What if she decided she liked the new baby better?
Scott began to whimper. He wanted Momma.  Now!
Sally Tracy did all she could, but Scott wouldn’t be consoled.  Not his favourite warmed milk, or his plush plane or any of his other toys would work.  All he wanted was his mother to come back to him.
Jeff was feeling a mixture of joy and relief.  This second baby was much bigger than Scott and Lucy had had a much harder time giving birth, and Lucy and baby Virgil were both staying at the hospital for a couple of days so that Lucy could rest.  He was thrilled that Virgil had arrived safely, but also relieved that Lucy’s labor had been hard, but quite short.  And that Virgil seemed to be a placid baby.
He was surprised to arrive home to find his oldest son in a complete temper.  Scott had storms, but they were usually over quickly.   He took his oldest son from his mother and tried to soothe him.
“Hey Scotty, what’s with the tears?  No need to cry.”
“Momma!  Momma!  Momma gone!!”
“She’s only gone for a couple of days, son.  It was time for your baby brother to arrive, and Momma and Virgil are very tired after he arrived.  So she’s staying with him in the hospital for a couple of days until they are both feeling better.”
The little boy was still crying but not as much.  “Want Momma!” he said snuffling into his father’s neck.
Jeff patted him on the back, knowing exactly his feelings.  He was missing Lucy’s presence in the house already, and knew that he would not sleep well that night.  He never slept well without her curled up against him.
“We can go and see Momma tomorrow, Scott.  And you can meet your new brother.”  He could feel his little boy hiccupping against his shoulder, tears were still flowing, but the tantrum had passed.
Jeff sat down gratefully at the kitchen table, and shifted Scott to sit on his knee.  He hadn’t realised that Scott would get so upset, and determined that he would never let his family worry about him and Lucy not coming back again.
~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**
Lucy smiled as her husband and oldest son came into the hospital room.  She was sitting cross legged on the bed and held out her arms to her little boy who leaned from his father’s arms to get to her.  “What’s this I hear about you thinking I wouldn’t come back?” she asked him as he snuggled into her, clinging tight.  “Momma will always come back for you, my little man! I promise.”
She put her face up for Jeff’s kiss  and then grinned as he went to the crib next to the bed where their newest son lay napping. ”He looks much better than he did yesterday,” Jeff said.
Lucy was rocking Scott who just seemed content to be cuddled with her.  “Well, he’d had a rough trip yesterday. I think he’s beautiful.”
Jeff sat down on the bed with his newest son cradled lovingly in his arms.  All that could be seen was a tuft of black hair.  “Scott?  Son? You want to meet your new brother?”
Scott peeped out from his mother’s side.  He was here? The baby in momma’s tummy was here?   He climbed over the bed to sit next to his father and felt his mother gently pull him further back.  “Don’t fall Scott.  Be careful.”
Jeff turned and brought the baby down to Scott’s level so he could see.  “This is Virgil.  He’s come to be your new little brother.”
“You’ll have to be careful with him first Scott,” Lucy said.  “But you’re his big brother and you will need to look out for him and help us to teach him.  And he’s going to be by your side always, as brothers are.  He’s going to be your first friend.”
Scott leaned forward just as the baby’s eyes opened.  Blue, as all newborn eyes were, but in the depths was a tinge of honey brown.  Scott reached out one tiny finger and gently stroked it down the baby’s face, unable to move his eyes away.  He heard everything that his mother was saying and took it straight to his heart.
~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**
Scott looked at his brother, who shifted uncomfortably on his bed.  “Don’t expect sympathy,” he said, trying to be stern.  “You came home from that mission and didn’t get yourself checked out.  And then you started working on Two.”
 “I thought I was OK.”
“Breaking your own rules, Virge.  Allie was terrified when you went down.”
“Like I said – I thought that I was OK.”
Scott shook his head incredulously.  “Virge, you stopped a falling elevator using you and the exosuit.  I thought I was the one who did dumb things.”
Virgil grinned – or grimaced.  Scott wasn’t sure.  “I can’t let you have all the fun.   How did you find out?”
“That Fire Chief – McCready – she contacted us to check on you.  Just as Allie let out a shriek that brought Brains running to the hangar.  I got back to the middle of the chaos.”
“And a good time was had by all.   But honestly Scott – I’m fine.  The fact that I’m here in….”  Virgil paused and looked around the room.  “Your bed.  Really?”
“You’re my brother.  And my best friend.  I had to keep an eye on you, so we brought you here.  You’ve put on weight, Virge.”  Scott’s blue eyes were twinkling, now that he knew that his iimmediate younger brother was not in any immediate danger or severely injured. Muscle strain, Brains had said. Bruising.  It would be a week or so before Virgil was fully up to full strength. But nothing broken.
“It took me, Gords, Allie, Brains and Max to get you up here.”
“I’m not fat.  It’s all muscle.”  Virgil tried to look outraged, but failed.  He tried to sit up, and drew in a sharp breath.
Scott hastily moved to help him, his hands gentle, his arms strong as he helped, and Virgil gratefully leaned back against his big brother.  “I don’t need you smothering me,” he said.  “Just help me get to the bathroom and then back to my own bed.”
“Bathroom yes – but you’re staying here.  Brains said bed rest for the next couple of days to let your muscles heal.  Minimal walking”
 “Brains is a mother hen.”
“Brains is only doing what you’d do.  Have done.   Be grateful – I could be letting Gordon loose on you.”
“For that I am grateful.” Virgil manouvered himself to the edge of the bed, gratefully accepting Scott’s help and leaning against him as he made his way to the bathroom.
He didn’t complain as Scott helped him to the hot shower and then helped him dress in fresh pyjamas and back to the bed where he relaxed with a sigh.  It had been a while since he had been injured enough to need help, and he had almost forgotten what it was like to just put himself in the hands of his big brother to be looked after.
Scott’s bed was comfortable, and he just enjoyed himself relaxing.  Scott bought in his sketch pad and pencils and a LiteType. And hot chocolate – his favourite treat.  It’s warmth seemed to ease sore muscles and the bruises that were livid even on the tanned colour of his skin.
All three of his earth-side brothers were there when Cass McCready called again and the room rang with laughter during the conversation.  She repeated her offer for him to join them in her batallion during his holiday and he happily accepted.  It sounded like fun.
Scott came out of the bathroom in his own pyjamas.  “Move over – I’m not spending another night on the floor.”
Virgil just stretched out. “You chose to put me here,” he said grinning.  “Tough it out big brother!”  He then moved to the side of the bed.  The last time he had shared a bed with his oldest brother was….
When momma died.  In that bleak, horrible time, when his best friend had been just as devastated as the rest of the family, but had lived up to the promise he had made to take care of his little brothers, to be the best big brother.
He could remember that horrible time, when it was only in the darkest part of the night that Scott could let his own grief overrun.  It was his turn to hold his best friend close, and to offer comfort.
Everything they went through had only drawn them closer.  Through school, through differing paths of study, they remained best friends.
He felt Scott settling and closed his own eyes.
Scott made sure Virgil had fallen asleep and then he put his arms behind his head.  His mother had been right.  She had said that Virgil would be his best friend, and she was right. Despite being two completely different people, with different personalities, they were still best friends as well as brothers.
Scott knew that with his brother by his side, he could accomplish anything.  As he drifted off to sleep, he was smiling.
 Momma was always right.

Hiiiii I just wanna post again that I’m still here! I’m just in a place atm where I’m super fatigued all the time and need to be a lot more money conscious, so I haven’t had it in me to post much or really engage with plushes besides holding Sunny at home and repairing some old friends. However, I want to show some more self care in and engage with what makes me happy again, so I decided to be kind to myself and indulged in a new friend over the weekend! It’ll probably be another week or so before she’s here (projected 10-15 day shipping), but I’m excited to show her off once she’s home :)
Sunny, Wee Hen, the rest of my little plush family, and I all hope you’ve been doing amazing! I hope to post more soon 🧡

I’ve been crocheting a lot this last month and made Wee Hen some bandanas :) I’m also working on a little sweater for her!!

I decided I’d start this blog off with my first pic out with Wee Hen!! I’m still a touch nervous to bring her out fully, but it was still comforting to poke her little head out of the bag and pet her little head :)

Today was a lil rough so my partner grabbed me a little Jellycat from a nearby pharmacy 🥺🥺 idk what to name them yet, but Wee Hen’s purple Bandana fits them perfectly!!
Also, name suggestions are welcomed :)

Hi!! Call me Aegis (pronounced EE-Juhs) or Egg for short (they/them, lesbian, white) :) welcome to my plush blog!!
I’m a 22 year old recent college graduate, and I’m autistic and disabled. I’ve loved plushes for my entire life, but only re-started collecting within the last few years!! My fav brands are Webkinz, Jellycat, Douglas, ItemLabel, Pillow Pets, Pokémon Center, and Squishables, but I like most plushes!!
DNI If: Radfem, Gold Star Lesbian, Kink/NSFW Blog, DDLG/CGL Blog, Pro-ED, MAP/NOMAP, Normal DNI Criteria
While my blog will (probably) mostly be reblogs, I may occasionally post pics of my own plushes!! I’ve occasionally brought plushes places with me for comfort and grounding before, but I've started doing it more in the last year due to a traumatic accident. While I’ve been recovering well, it’s still fun to have a little friend out with me!
Here’s a link to my carrd where I list my plushes, +my dreamies if you’re interested!!
My current comfort plush is a Webkinz Signature Chow Chow named Sunny, and the plush I currently plan on bringing around with me the most (due to wanting to protect Sunny, myself, and my partner from COVID) is a Jellycat Little Henry Hound named Wee Hen. Both were gifts from my loving partner <3 Also up there is Trumpet, a plush Boston terrier from a small brand on Etsy that my best friend got for me, and Motor Oil, an ItemLabel Series 2 Special Secret OuiOui (or PengOui) :)
While a cheeky dog is not my current comfort plush, my favorite Webkinz when I was a little kid was a pink punch cheeky dog named Beauty. I loved her so much I even wrote her name on her tag (which I ever only did 1 other time), and I recently brought her back home from my parents’ house! I would love to get other cheeky dogs once I have the money too, and the original cheeky dog is one of my dreamies, tho I doubt I’ll ever be able to get one 😔
This is not an AgeRe blog, I’m just a guy (gender-neutral) who likes plushes, but I’m 100% SFW AgeRe friendly!! Same goes for Age Dreamers!!
If you know me irl, or are from my main blog, please ask before following!! If you don’t I might honestly just block you. If you ask, there’s a 99.999% chance I’ll just say yes tho!! And on a similar topic, feel free to ask for my main blog!!

My partner and I went out for a belated birthday breakfast for them before class, and Wee Hen got to come along!! I let her try a sip of my latte, but it was too bitter for her 😔
