i know they can't do stuff like this due to copyright laws but the most unrealistic thing about the persona series is that no one's persona is something modern day and silly like sonic the hedgehog or the dog sitting at a table on fire meme

just wondering... how do ya think P5 woulda gone if it went with the P2 route of only having around 5 party members? I ask 'cause I've heard a lot of people express relief and joy to have around 8 to 9 party members like in 3 and 4
Ok, phew, sorry for the wait, this took some thought.
But I’d have to say….I don’t think it’d work….in the final game that we’ve gotten (but it COULD work in another sense but first…). I’ve reworked how I think P5 should go down over and over in my head in how I think P5 could be “fixed” and it’s always after the 2nd dungeon when I begin to fix things. But by then we already have 5 party members….and even if I remove almost everyone on the original P5 team after Yusuke joining, I still add other characters and there’s still more than 5 characters in the end. This is because P3/4/5 operate on a “calendar and can only summon one persona per teammate”system, while P1/2/Q operate on a “dungeon crawling and everything happening in a specific amount of time that doesn’t exceed a month and everyone can or sorta use multiple personas”. P3/4/5 need more characters cause only one can use multiple personas, and the game needs to be balanced with more variety and more characters does that. P3/4/5 also have SLs/CoOps which is like half the game and it helps power up your characters that you would instead do by just plain dungeon crawling like in P1/2/Q. P1/2/Q however, don’t have the luxury to SL and it’s mostly dungeon crawling and challenges. Sure PQ is a bit different, you can choose multiple people and kinda sorta summon multiple Personas but that’s the difference! You can only kinda sorta, people are still held back by their main Persona, so in the end PQ is like a weird mixture of “summon multiple personas and yet still also only summon one.” So yeah anyways I don’t think the P5 we got could be translated over to a 5 party system (and the PQ system wouldn’t work either tbh)
Buuuuuut!!!!!!! If they had gone with the road trip idea they had originally had, it could’ve worked. It’s time frame would’ve been a little different compared to the rest of the series tho, instead of playing a whole year or a small time frame, each story arc would take place during a certain time and then after it ended it’d jump a little into the future (a few weeks to a few months) and then the next story arc would start (basically Chapters, kinda more true to the omnibus narrative). It would be similar to how Sly Cooper’s chapters go. This could give us the 5 party member system. It would also mean almost all party spots are up in the air (I say almost all because looking at concept art Anne looked like she was always meant to be in the party even back during the road trip days so yeah 8U So Anne takes up a spot, or at least someone who could also fulfill the Catwoman/Fujiko Mine-esque phantom thief trope). But yeah, if P5 was actually fully omnibus and not calendar structured, the 5 party member system would’ve worked out more.
