We'll see how they deal in the next comic!
Antonio's eyes changing color slowly through the comic is purposeful--the Spectral-eyed people rarely lose their eye's "glow" so to speak, but on occasion it can happen, e.g. when utilizing too much power.
Transcript (alt text) under the cut:
Throughout towering fog, there are masses of colorful eyes that resemble the Spectral Eyes of the protagonists; there are jagged yet cartoonish teeth with blood flecking them running around those eyes, some of which are tearing up and some of which seem to cage in or imply fear of others.
Layla is a small form up above amid the fog. Below are crashing gray seas; amid the seas are Alia with her starry waters and Antonio with his oceanic waters resembling a dragon in an 'S'-like shape. Alejandro is up in the skies and has a ring of fire around him.
Antonio's monologue begins: The strength and power of the ocean at my side by 15 years' age…who could doubt it? On this planet, only fools and children would. To the unknowing child, I'd explain how the fogs of the Shrouded Seas don't sweep in as often as people around the world assume. But this fog is always a threat and something for the Protector's Network to deal with. These freakish monsters that emerge through the fog are called THE PSYCHE. Regardless of land or sea, THE PSYCHE emerge across the whole world full of 15 billion people from the OTHERWORLD we call THE BOUNDLESS.
Antonio states, "Even young disciples of THE PROTECTOR'S NETWORK have power."
The seas fall away into deeper waters; there are watery bubbles sinking. Alejandro has tired red eyes, violet hair and ponytail wearing the silvery Protector's uniform with a flower-like emblem that says 10,000 upon it against his chest. He's sweating and is alert about something. Alia with curly blue hair surrounding her, red eyes and dark brown skin is preoccupied, drifting with the seas still.
Antonio proclaims, "MY FRIENDS," under them.
Rajab looks back at someone with a serious gaze, silver eyes, dark brown skin and silver hair with a flowery white print shirt. The seas behind him look mystical and swirling. Antonio with his typical darker blue hair [within the comic] like waves looks brash with a sharp grin, with glowing red eyes and blood splashed on his skin. Fernando, who is identical to him except with [anime] dark violet hair with a flying braid, looks back at what looks like Antonio very seriously with his golden eye glowing and a small frown, wearing a red shirt and with his waves whirling behind him.
Beneath himself and his twins he proclaims "MY BROTHERS,"
While beneath all of them are a Layla still up upon the fog with lightning all around her. Her brown skin is lit up and her expression with glowing red eyes is alarm with her teeth clenched. She has wavy silver hair and wears a black tanktop with jeans, and strangely her shadow is static-ing upon the fog. In the panel by her is Farrah, who looks concerned with wavy long dark blue hair [within the comic] and glowing pink eyes as waves rush by behind her.
Beneath them Antonio boasts, "MY COUSINS,"
And thus the dialogue is: "MY FRIENDS, MY BROTHERS, MY COUSINS,
"We are all part of the PROTECTOR'S CLASS. Every one of us dream of taking up the mantle entitled PROTECTOR OF WORLDS."
RIGHT BENEATH is an immense fog that Antonio is staring up at--three Spectral-looking eyes, gold, silver and fuchsia akin to the triplets are eerie with a dizzying spiral in each eye, staring down at him with running cartoonish fanged teeth and a bloodied eerie semi-realistic jaw starting to separate from the fog.
Antonio insists, "We defeat THE PSYCHE frequently. We are all CAPABLE."
A similar trio of eerie spiraling eyes shake within detached and slightly bloodied jaws as Antonio says, "When it comes to my own life… I'm used to it, bleeding. when it comes to being a healer, i'm above and beyond a majority of the world."
He's looking cocky with only a brazen grin showing, and yet trapped between the sharp and jagged teeth.
His eye goes wide with blood splattering around it.
He screams, "SO WHY…?
The stupid fuck who despises heroes, Alejandro Altaha…
Why would he do this?"
Alejandro has become gored by the cartoonish monstrous sharp and jagged and extremely bloodied teeth, still sweating. There's a strange glowing sea green-ish blue light surrounding him. Blood splatters and sprays everywhere upon his rainbowing Protector's uniform and a traumatized Antonio with a shocked expression, tear droplet leaking from one eye, and a gaping mouth. Both their eyes have become FUSCHIA.
RAJ is suddenly focal. He has a sea-green-ish moon symbol vibrating in the air in front of him, and behind him is a wall of pink text implying potential thought-sharing powers. (The text will be below the finished transcript.)
Antonio weeps while holding onto a collapsed and fainted Alejandro with blood all over them. Alejandro looks unhappy in his seeming comatose state. Behind Antonio is rising waves like a shell, and surrounding him and Alejandro is aqua sea-green-ish glowing waters that imply healing powers, with a huge glowing moon symbol alike to Raj's (with two circles on both sides, instead of one being tilted; one circle is not shown).
With a focus on his weeping eye, Antonio says with defeat in his tone, "They dislike me being in front of the camera. it wouldn't make him look good. if he'd protected Diego or Fernando like usual, it would've been the talk of the region. He doesn't gain anything. He just doesn't gain anything."
Raj's text says: should've shifted - layla is always capable - she's high up but - [fernando] wasn't futile focus just - after three seconds - and antonio is powerful i [know] - after three seconds - with my power i need to - alejandro was - why is he always like this - antonio won't - he WOULDN'T but layla - i will manage will prevail i will prevail won't forgive ANTONIO DON'T MOVE so little time I WILL PREVAIL SO DON'T

Creeping into your inbox with the great joy that we have such similar taste in horror! I was wondering what your favourite horror movies/shows/books are? I'm always on the lookout for more stuff :D
Oh! Well. *◡*
Some off the top of my head (shoving this under a cut for the long, rambling opinions in which I hope you find something useful).
Movies: My current, contemporary favourite is definitely The Witch. It’s peak everything - period-piece, atmosphere, folklore/religious horror - everything I love. Absolute masterwork of minimalist horror.
As for what’s stuck with me, The Mist - took it like a fist to the face and still think about it all the time. There’ve been some other decent religious/folky horror stuff I’ve like over the past few years - Let the Right One In (book and movie both) The Omen (excellent buildup) and more recently Antlers (doubles as a monster movie), because I am obsessed with Wendigo lore. I know they’re kinda spoopy now but when I was a tween I was also a big sucker for The Village and Signs, ha. Again, mostly for the atmospheric buildup of dread, and The Village for its evocation of folksy, Puritanical horror.
I’m a sucker for some monster movies as well, even semi-trashy ones like Cloverfield. I love the big monster-reveal moment. Prometheus, for the same reason. More interestingly, The Host (which is Korean) but adjacent to that are some of the classic Japanese horrors like Ring and the Grudge, especially The Grudge - both versions - which changed me forever.
Series: Midnight Mass (just a Bloodborne modern AU honestly) has some interesting ideas on life after death, and Hamish Linklater’s performance is to die for. I’ve watched it twice and loved it both times. Archive 81 for the spooky ancient-god/slow burn dread. Huge fan of The Terror series which I think you know (I love Jared Harris, the best modern-day Cassandra if you take Chernobyl into account, and nice to see Tobias Menzies playing someone way less pathetic than Edmure in Game of Thrones lol). The book is a little more dry but still good, and I just started the series’ second season (Infamy) and love it already.
Also worth mentioning a French series called Zone blanche (translated as Black Spot of Netflix), a little under the radar, which was great. Very much the subtle “the forest is a dark place beyond human understanding” vibe. I’m actively still going through Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities but enjoying the variety of episodes so far: "The Outsider" (which frankly I just read as a queer/lesbian awakening story) and "Pickman’s Model" in particular (cannot avoid Lovecraft lmao, I’m so sorry).
I don’t know if I can add the absolute incontrovertible masterwork that is Dark here, though it has some very, very itty bitty inconsequential minor horror elements. But I will watch it again and again until I die.
In addition, some looser, genre-defying or multi-genre “horror” works like Get Out, Attack the Block, and the Southern Reach Trilogy (book only, the movie just couldn’t capture the peak high concept eldritch horror). I would add the recent film The Wonder to that which has very subtle religious horror elements but is not supernatural whatsoever. I adored it.
For books, any goddamn thing by Joyce Carol Oates but especially "Poe Posthumous; or, the Light-House" as I’ve made abundantly clear already; also I’m currently going through this excellent treasure trove of short horror stories collected in this post here (there is a second list somewhere too, if I recall, and they are even sorted by sub-category!)
At the top of my must-watch list is Lamb right now, and eventually The Ritual and Midsommar, as well as The Lighthouse for obvious reasons. Any other recs are always welcome! I took two classes in CEGEP on Gothic lit and horror films and learned, fundamentally, that the horror genre is an incredibly useful and dynamic way to chart humanity’s anxieties over the past two centuries or so. (Dr Kris Woofter if you are still out there, you absolute hero, those were the greatest classes of my then-short academic life and I carry them with me always; or tucked neatly under my floorboards, where they writhe and groan ominously.)

Before I Wake is a 2016 horror movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
The movie follows Jessie and Mark Hobson, a couple who have recently lost their son, Sean due to a drowning. Jessie, still struggling with the grief and guilt of his loss, attends therapy groups and mentions that she struggles with insomnia due these emotions. She is struggling to move on, with her being reluctant to remove photos of her husband, herself and Sean.
They adopt an 8 year old boy named Cody, whose mother passed away when he was young. Cody has an interest in butterflies and when he moved in with Jessie and Mark, he was shown to have a textbook about butterflies in a box. Butterflies, in literature and the arts, represent change, transformation, comfort and hope. Cody’s love for butterflies may be a sign that he is trying to keep himself positive after his past. Cody’s previous attempts to be adopted were rejected.
Throughout the film, it’s revealed Cody’s dreams and nightmares come to life. Cody is shown to drink energy and sugary drinks to keep himself awake, and apologises to Jessie and Mark for accidentally filling their home with butterflies after he falls asleep reading his book.
Their house is filled with multicoloured butterflies, and notedly what appears to be a Blue Monarch is shown as a focal point. Blue butterflies are known to represent joy, beauty and luck. It can also be considered a wish granter. Additionally, seeing blue butterflies can mean you are seeing the angel of someone you loved that has passed.
This takes great affect in the movie, since Cody would even create blue butterflies before he was born to show to his mother. Also, Jessie takes interest in the blue butterfly particularly, showing she might feel some connection to it. The blue butterfly in her case, represents her biological son Sean. This symbolism is something I really enjoy about this movie. The colour symbolism is also evident, with Jessie often being lit by blue light, and her husband green or red. The significance of the colour blue is creative, as it shows the connection Jessie and Cody had from the start as a mother and son, because they both have suffered grief in their own ways, and the colour blue connects them through their emotion.
I really love when movies use symbolism through colour, animals, objects and scenery. It adds a much more heartfelt and subliminal emotional effect to the media which is much more effective than expressed emotion in my opinion, since the experience is completely unique.
Further on, Cody experiences nightmares of a monster he calls “The Canker Man”. The Canker Man is what he believes to have killed his mother, and he constantly dreams of him, making him come to life. The Canker Man takes the life of a boy named Tate, who was bullying him at school. While sleeping in class, Cody dreams of The Canker Man and he eats Tate. This shows what The Canker Man is capable of and shows him in his full form, and why Cody is so scared of falling asleep. Furthermore, The Canker Man is fully white with a worn out and thin appearance. This is later shown to be loosely what Cody's mother looked like before she passed away of pancreatic cancer, showing that Cody believes his mother had been taken by the Canker Man at that point, and that was why her appearance was like that in her final moments, and he didn't recognise her.
Because Cody's dreams come to life, he often dreams of things he has seen in the day before making them materialise. He accidentally does this, bringing Sean to life after looking at the remaining family photo Jessie left up in their house.
This makes Jessie emotional, and she doesn't let go of this moment. She begins using Cody to see her deceased son, showing him home videos and photos of Sean before he died, to force Cody to dream of him. This shows that Jessie is not fully over the death of her son, and refuses to accept Cody as her own son in this moment and begins exploiting his ability. Originally, due to her insomnia, Jessie wanted desperately just to sleep, but she couldn't, due to the death of her son. Now, she is falling back into an unhealthy mindset of wanting to stay awake to meet with her already deceased son. This is a good presentation of how mental health, loss and grief affects mothers.
This eventually escalates into Jessie forcing Cody to take prescribed sleeping medication to force him into sleep. However, Cody once again dreams of The Canker Man, and he kills Mark. Mark's sudden disappearance is treated as a suspicious case, and Cody is taken away back to the orphanage.
Jessie finds Cody's previous foster father to ask about Cody's ability, and it's revealed that all of Cody's previous foster parents were killed by The Canker Man. Cody's previous foster father tells Jessie that the only way to cure Cody, is to kill him. However Jessie objects, and investigates into Cody's mother further. She discovers a blue butterfly shaped pillow that belonged to Cody's mother. Jessie goes to find Cody at the orphanage, and is confronted by the Canker Man, however, Jessie shows him the blue butterfly pillow, and comforts The Canker Man, which he then starts to decrease in size and disappear.
It suggests that The Canker Man was what Cody believed killed his mother, when it was actually cancer. Cody didn't understand this, and only remembered his mother as this monster that he created in his mind after seeing her for the last time in her worst state. All he needed was the push reminder that the monster didn't kill his mother, and that reminder was the blue butterfly pillow, to remind him that it was really his mother all along who died of natural causes.
To the end of the movie, its shown that the name The Canker Man came from Cody's mispronunciation of the word 'Cancer', meaning that Cody was being tormented by his own mind the whole time, and really needed a loving mother like Jessie who wasn't scared of his ability to help him overcome this.
Before I Wake is a great movie. The way it portrays a child's mind and their confused nightmares is brilliant, and it portrays an abandoned child's guilt well with how Cody constantly apologises for things he does. The symbolism of the blue butterfly symbolising rebirth and transformation was a great choice in emphasising the transition from Jessie's grief to acceptance in her son's loss, and Cody's reminder of his mother to cure the torment his own childish mind had been giving him for so long.
In my own project, this movie is mainly what I will be taking inspiration from. I want my main character to have the same ability as Cody, in that their dreams can materialise. I think this idea was done very well in this movie and the way it was utilised to show symbolism and the character's mindset was brilliant. This movie could've been done very differently and could've taken a very different route, but the relationship between Cody and Jessie was the best route to go down and the portrayal of adoptive mother and son was great.

A friend of mine said he’d like to start reading El Goonish Shive after my bombardment of funny panels from the strip and mention of how it has positively-portrayed characters of all kinds of different genders/sexualities, but I feel a little conflicted about recommending it because the author has gotten so much better at drawing with time, has changed attitudes over time, and has also changed plot directions at least once. The strip is now one of the highest-quality long-running story webcomics — but the author is scrupulously trying not to recon old plot hooks out of existence, which means that there are plot points which you can’t get without reading the parts of the strip which were completely different and potentially even offensive. So as a public service, here is a summary of the early parts of the story, when the art was rough and the plot was not really what it is now, listing any plot points which have — so far — turned out to be important, in chronological order with some panels taken from the comic as illustrations, and links every time the summary reachest the beginning of a new section in the comic archives so you can switch to reading the comic when you get tired of the summary. Since this is going to be a long post, I’m hiding it under a “keep reading”.
(The large text headings in this summary are the names of sections in the strip archives. Each one is a link to the first strip in that section. The first appearances of permanent character names are in bold blue text, the first mentions of recurring named locations are in bold orange text, and the first mentions of plot-important objects are in bold red text.)
Introductions
The original main characters are introduced with lots of 4th wall breakage, significantly different personalities to what they eventually become, and no real plot in mind yet (their last names are not revealed until later but there’s no reason not to give them here):
Tedd Verres: a seemingly stereotypical white male video game and science nerd of high school age, with very large, thick glasses; in the early strips he is extremely horny in a sexist way (this later changes a lot)
Elliot Dunkel: Ted’s best friend, a brown-haired white martial arts jock who is relatively level-headed but not very introspective, and in certain ways kind of slow on the uptake; in the first few strips he is a sarcastic sexist jerk (this ceases to be true very quickly once the plot starts)
Sarah Brown: Elliot’s childhood friend, who is an artist; she is a shortish non-athletic white girl with blond hair. she is very dubious about Ted (with cause) and can pull cartoon-style hammers out of nowhere when offended by sexism (believe it or not this eventually becomes a plot point)
The Goo
In chemistry class at Moperville North High School, Tedd and Elliot accidentally bring an experiment (to create “goo”) to life. It escapes, finds a big tub of steroids which happens to be in a supply closet by cartoonish coincidence, and becomes huge. The two of them fail to capture it, and try to set off the sprinkler system to dissolve it instead — which fails because the principal (who purposely looks a little like Hitler) diverted maintenance funds to have inspirational murals painted. (This will be a running-but-occasional gag.) Elliot eventually blows the monster up by punching it hard enough to penetrate the exterior and then shoving a lit cigarette lighter into the hole. (Also introduced in this section: a stereotypical German scientist who is eventually revealed to be named Dr. Germahn, who answers reader questions about in-universe stuff, with a ditzy blond assistant, who is eventually revealed to be named Amanda. Like Tedd, Dr. Germahn is suggested to be comically horny.)
Shade, Part 1
Tedd and Elliot were in the paper for the goo adventure; a silhouetted female figure reads about it and wonders if Tedd could help her. Sarah tries to ask Elliot out on a date to the movies, but he fails to pick up on the “date” part and gets Tedd to come along. (The employee selling tickets, a skinny young would-be pickup artist with spiked blond hair, has his first appearance here; he is later constantly used as the go-to character when giving an illustration of sleazy behavior.)
On reaching his house after the movie, Tedd is approached by the formerly-silhouetted female figure, who is now revealed to have a light brown skin tone and brown hair. She is wearing a trench coat, and is cold because she is wearing nothing else, so Tedd (being at this stage of the strip comically horny) immediately invites her inside, but then gives her clothing. Tedd’s father is upset that Tedd has invited somebody indoors, but (mutually) recognizes her. Mr. Verres (first name later revealed to be Edward) refers to her as “Shade Tail”, and after establishing that nobody knows she’s there, permits her to stay as long as her presence is kept secret.
This bewilders Tedd, but is part of Mr. Verres’ unspecified-but-shady job with the government. “Shade Tail” asks to be called Grace (much later adopting the last name Sciuridae); she is revealed to be somewhat naive in an under-socialized way. Further silhouetted figures with monstrous outlines and glowing eyes are revealed to be searching for her somewhere outside. The next morning, Ted calls Elliot over, and he meets Grace, and initially has difficulty believing that she is both real and in Tedd’s basement lab voluntarily. (Also, Tedd has a somewhat shy pet — Jeremy — who is some kind of cat-hedgehog hybrid, origins unexplained.) Elliot, at Ted’s request, convinces Sarah to help shop for clothing for Grace, and she reluctantly comes to Tedd’s house. Sarah disguises Grace (with glasses, reference is made to Clark Kent) and Sarah and Grace go to the mall, where Grace loses sight of the objective. She reveals that she weighs 160 pounds (very heavy for her size!) and scares off a would-be mugger by shape-changing into a giant were-squirrel (basically) and exhibiting telekinetic powers, then passes out from the effort.
Q&A #1
Dr. Germahn and Amanda explain that Grace can change size without changing weight. It is established that Dr. Germahn’s lab has mysterious transformation potions around. They also explain that Sarah can only use mallets when it’s funny and in response to sexism, so she couldn’t use them to defend against the mugger… Amanda then uses one on the doctor.
Shade, Part 2
Sarah comes home with Grace (still fuzzy but less animal-looking) and furiously accuses Tedd of having done something to her (with reference to him having “done something” to Sarah in the past). Mr. Verres says that no, Grace is the result of illegal experiments by a group of scientists trying to create shape-changing assassins. The first three were a guinea pig man named Guineas, a hedgehog man named Hedge (so creative!), and a vampire bat man named Vlad. These first three experience severe pain when transforming, and Vlad’s transformation is a life-threatening maneuver, but Grace is an improved model in that respect — but her unwillingness to kill caused her to be regarded as a failure. The scientists were then killed by a powerful malevolent apparently-human creation from somewhere else, named Damien, who stole all their notes and took the shape-changers with him.
While Tedd and Elliot are helping Mr. Verres search his enormous collection of top secret government documents (most of them apparently about successful coverups of aliens and cryptids and so forth) for more information, Grace wakes up and is surprised Sarah isn’t scared by her squirrel form, and is touched by Sarah’s kindness. Sarah says it’s because she “has experience” because of something Tedd did, but they are interrupted by the return of the others. Elliot is suspicious of Grace, says she’s dangerous, and wants to know why she came to Tedd. She explains that she isn’t dangerous because she doesn’t know how to fight, but her brothers are seriously dangerous to everyone, particularly Vlad, and she thought maybe Tedd could help them without killing them, because it isn’t their fault that they are dangerous. Elliot and Sarah leave, and Grace snuggles up to Tedd, who is surprised by it, expecting his cartoonish teenaged horniness to cause disgust.
Relations, Part 1
Elliot invites Sarah to come to his martial arts class the next afternoon, because she was almost mugged and needs to learn to defend herself. She reluctantly agrees. The next day at school, Elliot is acting oddly and avoiding Sarah, who decides that it’s a good thing he hasn’t noticed that she wants to date him if he’s already acting this way.
After school, Grace, who has been housebound all day, pounces on Tedd when he walks in the door. She admits she likes Tedd, who likes her squirrel form. She changes back to human, and when told about Elliot’s odd behavior, she deduces that Elliot may be about to break Sarah’s heart. Meanwhile, Elliot gives Sarah a ride to the class.
April Fools Week
Joke strips. No long-term plot-related content.
Relations, Part 2
Sarah and Elliot arrive at “Anime-Style Martial Arts”, and meet three new recurring characters: Justin Tolkiberry (a tallish high school male with longish dirty blond hair parted in the center), Nanase Kitsune (a muscular tanned girl with red hair and green eyes, also wearing an over-the-top anime-ish karate fighter outfit), and Sensei Greg (a very tall muscular black man with an afro).
Sensei Greg asks Elliot to help him with something, and is revealed to be trying to go Super Saiya — it is revealed that Greg, who was already a black belt in three schools of martial arts, binge-watched 168 hours straight of anime and realized how to develop anime-style fighting techniques which should not actually be possible, and opened this dojo to teach the system. Nanase is the star pupil, and is conspicuously charging her “Ki” (anime, yes?), while Greg, hoping to impress a potential new student (Sarah), asks Elliot to have an exhibition match with Nanase.
The match is, as you might expect, ridiculous, with glowing fists and feet, Nanase splitting in three, and Elliot doing an explosive power-up through narrative revelation. (Incidentally, it is revealed by thought balloon that Justin is gay and finds Elliot attractive.) Nanase wins by distracting Elliot using the Demon Duck — a later-occasionally-recurring joke character whose purpose/job/hobby is to serve as a distraction.
After knocking down Elliot and winning the match, Nanase kisses him, which is revealed to be something they do after every fight, because in fact they are already dating and Elliot has not told Sarah this. Sarah reacts with shock and runs away. Nanase slaps Elliot — no magic or anything, just a slap — for being such a jerk to Sarah and tells him to go find her and talk to her. She has gone to the ice cream parlor nearby. Sarah confesses her love for Elliot, and flees again; Elliot has the sudden realization that he loves Sarah, and in any case is making a mistake which may cost him his oldest friend, and follows her out of the ice cream parlor only to be confronted by Nanase, who amicably breaks up with him because he obviously likes Sarah more than her; they have never done anything really romantic, ever, aside from the kisses after they fight at the dojo.
Catnip
Sarah arrives at Tedd’s house. Ted and Grace are asleep on the couch (Grace is in squirrel form and has her head in Tedd’s lap), with a mint smell which Tedd explains is catnip, then a flashback to the previous night begins.
Tedd has a transformation ray gun (“the TF gun” for short) and Grace thinks that this may be at least a temporary solution to her problem — if they change her brothers into some other form, perhaps they will be unable to change out of it. She volunteers to test it, despite Tedd’s worries, and changes into a cat-person (not the usual anime “catgirl”). After initially believing that she is unable to change back independently, she discovers that not only is she able to change back if she concentrates, she can now transform at will into a squirrel-person or a cat-person (which Tedd finds erotic). Grace admits that this means they can’t use the TF gun directly to stop her brothers, but maybe they can give her a more powerful form which she could use to stop them physically. Tedd says the most powerful form possible is half-Jeremy. (It is revealed that the TF gun has been programmed by Ted to have a number of forms in it, including gender transformations.) The half-Jeremy form is indeed scary (although Jeremy suddenly gets friendly when it happens) so Grace changes back. The spines ruined her shirt, and Tedd is surprised that Grace has no problem with nudity (which messes with his mind) although of course it is not shown directly. To wind up the evening, they turn Grace back into a cat-person and bring out catnip.
The “flashback” is revealed to be a playback of recorded video of the whole thing, which Sarah has been watching with Tedd and Grace. (Sarah is annoyed that Grace would not let them skip the nude part, while Grace wants to know what’s so wrong with her body that nobody wants to see it).
Sarah goes home and that night Grace has trauma-induced nightmares; Tedd is awakened by her vocalizations and runs out of his room to check on her, forgetting his glasses. Grace demands that he stay with her for company (Tedd says his father would be upset but joins her), and then admits that the glasses don’t actually help his vision, they’re (in part) a prop to help him look more masculine. The glasses are actually something he got from his father, and have all kinds of special features, like x-ray vision. We learn that Elliot and Tedd met when Elliot beat up a bully who had been pestering Tedd — originally under the mistaken impression that Tedd actually was a girl.
Sister
Part 1 — Open The Box
Mr. Verres interrupts Tedd on his way to school to say he will be away on business for a few days, and to warn him not to “fool around” with Grace while he’s away, accidentally letting slip that she can’t pregnant while transformed, which makes Tedd very happy. At school, Tedd is bullied by Tony (no last name to date; a big football jock who is unpleasant in various ways) for being girly-looking and for doodling Grace as a squirrel. Tedd gets angry and decides he’ll turn Tony into a girl to make him stop.
We then cut to Sarah, who is confiding the events of the previous night to her friend Susan (full name — which she hates: Tiffany Susan Pompoms; a tall thin white girl with long black hair who is vocally very feminist, initially to the point of being anti-male, and also extremely logical and good at critical thinking; she takes no guff from anyone and can also summon those hammers from nowhere like Sarah). Sarah is inclined to forgive Elliot despite his having concealed Nanase’s existence from her, to Susan’s disgust.
At lunch, Sarah speaks to a still-disgruntled Tedd, who reveals that Elliot is staying home today for reasons which surprise Sarah:
After a momentary 4th-wall break, Tedd is called to the Principal’s office, where the Principal wants to know if Tedd can make him an army of goo soldiers, which Tedd denies either wanting or being able to do.
We then cut to Moperville South High School (the other school was North, if you recall), where Justin and Nanase are discussing the breakup. Justin is frustrated because he can’t find any other gay guys to date; Nanase admits she never actually found Elliot attractive and was trying all the time through the performative kissing to convince herself that he was. Justin suggests that maybe she is gay, too, which makes her very angry.
Part 2 — Read The Rules
Late that afternoon, just as Elliot has finally decided to call Sarah, Tedd arrives at his house clutching the TF gun, which is broken and which he is desperate to repair without Grace’s knowledge, because he has turned himself into a girl. (Elliot is unable to tell the difference at first, to Tedd’s annoyance.) Tedd explains that he was testing a time-limited (wears off after a day) female transformation to use on Tony and then the safety stuck so he can’t change back. After some juvenile jokes about the situation, Tedd fixes the gun while Elliot calls Sarah, who immediately cuts him off to say she’ll be right over. Elliot goes back to Tedd, who has already fixed the gun, but annoys him again by failing to be able to tell that Tedd has already turned himself back to male; Tedd then shoots him with the TF gun. Afterwards, Tedd wonders why he was so irrationally angry (this will be revisited much, much later!), and then discovers that the TF gun was set to “variant #5”. The gun then breaks for real, and Tedd says that V5 wears off after a month, rather than a day like normal.
Elliot worries that Sarah is on her way over, but Tedd says that that won’t be a problem. When Sarah arrives, she is upset that Elliot is now a girl, then shocked to discover that she still finds Elliot sexy. Tedd reveals that the V5 form was designed to be sexy, and emits pheromones which make everyone attracted. Also, he says that Elliot should be bisexual now, which proves to be the case. (Although it takes a long time, this is eventually a plot point.)
After Tedd leaves, Elliot asks Sarah to help him get ready to attend school as a girl because he refuses to miss a month of school over this. Meanwhile, Tedd discovers that when he used his special glasses to record himself in the mirror as a girl at Elliot’s house, Grace was on the computer and saw it, so the whole attempt to keep this a secret in the first place was wasted.
Elliot’s parents turn out to be almost preternaturally calm about his temporary change in gender; his father treats it as simply a minor issue caused by Tedd while his mother is thrilled and takes pictures.
Part 3 — Set Up The Pieces
The next day, Elliot shows up at school as a “temporary transfer student”, pretending to be his cousin “Ellen”. Tony trash-talks Elliot and hits on “Ellen”, who discovers that, as a girl, she can now summon hammers like Sarah and Susan, and clobbers him.
At lunchtime, “Ellen” senses something sinister, but it passes. Susan, after beating Tony with a mallet for harassing her, sees “Ellen” and asks if she wants to share a table along with Sarah. Tedd bows out to work in the library — partially out of fear of Susan — and “Ellen” reluctantly joins them. Susan badmouths Elliot and men in general, which makes “Ellen” feel bad and Sarah gets angry enough to move to another table with “Ellen”.
Part 4 — Play The Game
After school, Tedd calls “Ellen” because Grace (who is a natural genius and therefore a homeschooling whiz) has an idea. (Incidentally, “Ellen” learns for the first time that Tedd’s glasses are not vision-corrective and can see through clothes.) Grace was poking in Mr. Verres’ top secret files and has discovered that the government secretly has an artifact called the Dewichery Diamond, which is stored in an ultra-low-security “Paranormal Things That Are Of Little Use To Anyone Storage Facility”. This artifact is said to remove shape-altering curses on contact with a person who is cursed, and it might be able to fix the problem. “Ellen” is willing to believe that magic exists because of Nanase’s martial arts. (Incidental point: Nanase is revealed at this point to be Tedd’s cousin.)
“Ellen” and Tedd drive “Ellen”’s car off to the facility, Grace staying home to maintain secrecy as promised to Mr. Verres. “Ellen” has asked Greg, as a favor, to watch the house so if there’s an attack by Grace’s brothers somebody will see it and/or help defend, and he — having anime-style powers — senses Grace’s superhuman powers as she transforms repeatedly (she has discovered that — since gaining the cat form — she now changes weight when changing form), panics when she goes into half-Jeremy form and becomes incredibly powerful, and breaks into the house to “rescue” her. She instantly changes into an actual squirrel to hide, and Jeremy tries to attack him, but they talk it over peacefully and after repairing the door, he stays inside, watching Tedd’s anime collection.
Grace, who starts playing computer games, receives a video chat message through the computer from an alternate universe version of Tedd, who calls himself “Beta Tedd” and says he is warning as many versions of himself of a threat. (He is, incidentally, dating his universe’s version of Elliot, who is basically a genuine version of “Ellen”.)
Part 5 — Knock The Board Over
“Ellen” and Tedd arrive at the PTTAOLUTA Facility, get in with no trouble whatsoever, and find the Dewitchery Diamond — which is huge, nearly the size of a human head — on a stand under a spotlight, which is suspicious because most of the artifacts are in crates.
“Ellen” touches it, and is split into his normal self and a female copy, which they all rapidly conclude is the embodiment of the transformation. The copy — henceforth just Ellen — has a meltdown, which is made worse when she realizes that the transformation was supposed to wear off in a month so she will presumably disappear. She snaps, announces that no, she’s actually Elliot’s evil twin, and after Elliot fails to react, announces that she will do things to cause trouble for which Elliot will have to take the blame. Elliot tries to restrain her, but she outsmarts him and deliberately gets thrown through a (conveniently glassless) window, and drives away in the car after Elliot, concerned, checks that she’s all right.
Elliot is knocked unconscious by the security guard, and he and Tedd are locked up. While locked up, Tedd consults the notes of the wizard who created the Dewitchery Diamond and discovers that Ellen is not going to disappear; duplicates created by it are permanently “cursed” (in Ellen’s case: permanently female), and caused a horrible tragedy when it was first used to remove lycanthropy (as you might imagine). Elliot is glad Ellen is safe, but concerned about what she is going to do when she gets home.
Tedd and Elliot are eventually released. With the car gone, they need to figure out a way to get home. As it happens, Tedd is wearing a belt which is related to the TF gun. Elliot uses it to (very painfully) change into a superhumanly fast and strong cat-person, and carries Tedd home.
Part 6 — Scattered Pieces
At 6 AM, Grace lets us know that Tedd and Elliot have not returned. At 7:40, Ellen arrives at Moperville North, preparing to cause chaos. This does not go as planned — her attempt to ogle girls in the locker rooms doesn’t make Liz the goth girl (minor recurring character) angry enough to report her, the teacher she yells at (who has legitimately been a jerk) is afraid of her, and when she tries to humiliate Elliot by giving a talk about PMS in Speech class she discovers that she doesn’t actually know anything about it (she has Elliot’s memories, after all) and uses the Demonic Duck to escape.
Tedd and Elliot hitch a ride to Moperville from somebody very suspicious (not-really-a-spoiler: it’s Grace’s brother Hedge). Grace, who has fallen asleep at the foot of the stairs, has another nightmare which wakes Greg, who had fallen asleep on the sofa. She says she was scared of a picture on the computer, but when they go to look, they find that Tedd — using the “record from glasses to computer” feature from earlier — has left a message explaining what happened, and asking Grace to tell Sarah — but it is now hours too late. The two of them depart for the school in Greg’s car.
Ellen hears Tony badmouthing Tedd, grabs him by the throat, and seriously threatens him, finally getting caught by the Principal. She grabs his hairpiece and says it makes him look like Hitler, which he had never realized, which causes him to run away instead of punishing her. Sarah sees Ellen at this point, but she runs away instead of confronting her. Ellen has a breakdown in front of the mirrors in a bathroom, where she is found by Sarah. She kisses Sarah and says “goodbye”, then runs away.
Part 7 — Fist Fight
As she is running, Ellen suddenly sense danger (as Elliot did the other day), and rescues Sarah from the goo monster, which erupts out of the wall. It has gotten much bigger and now has multiple mouths and can speak. It says it will kill Ellen in the name of “the master”. Susan hears the panic which begins and pulls a fire alarm, while Ellen asks the goo monster who “the master” is, and it answers “Lord Tedd”, who wants to kill “weak Tedd”.
Elliot flees with Sarah, but then realizes that the goo is the start of the chain which caused the mess she’s in, and decides she has to kill it. Cameos of Liz smoking and not caring, Grace and Greg racing to the school, and Susan imperiously yelling into her cell phone at Nanase to come and kill the goo. Ellen confronts the goo in the gym. Sarah literally runs into Grace and Greg and learns that Ellen is not Elliot. They head to the gym.
The goo reveals that it can breathe fire; Ellen, telling them to stay back, dodges its attacks and discovers that she can somehow fire a green beam out of her palm, which is similar to the V5 beam from the TF gun. She tries it on the goo, and discovers that although it doesn’t damage the goo, the beam does stun it. While Ellen fights the goo, Grace explains the situation to Sarah and Greg, and Susan steps out and reveals she has overheard everything, and that Nanase is on her way.
Susan grasps the situation quickly and asks if any of them know how to kill the goo. Grace says Beta Tedd said that there’s a central core which is the weakness, but it is the size of a marble.
Justin and Nanase arrive. After being filled in, Nanase starts fighting using her duplicate attack from earlier. While they distract the goo, the real Nanase explains to Ellen that she is not going to die, in theory, although the goo then manages to trap them both. Before the goo can kill them, Grace freezes it telekinetically, as Greg and Justin attack with martial arts and Susan pops a katana out of nowhere. Under the stress of using telekinesis, Grace attempts to transform, but turns into a fusion form of everything, which is so powerful that the goo recognizes her as “the alternate of General Shade Tail” and tries to start some sort of ultimate attack.
Justin has freed Ellen and Nanase, and as the goo has retracted into a smaller form, she uses an anime-style ultimate attack, which blows the goo into bits. She also gets hit with her own beam, which makes her larger and slightly green. Ellen smashes the core of the goo, and Lord Tedd — somewhere dark, with glowing red eyes — sees a terminal which reads “goo cell #2812 offline -objective failed-”.
(The Principal reveals, as the normal students and teachers are freezing outside waiting for fire trucks, that he used the money which should have gone into maintaining a link from the fire alarms to the actual Fire Department on his beloved murals.)
Part 8 — Clean Up
Susan asks Ellen how she is, and Ellen hits on her. Ellen zaps her foot and changes back to normal. Tedd and cat-Elliot arrive and Grace happily pounces on Tedd. They explain that they got a ride from somebody strange who seemed to think at first that cat-Elliot was Grace, and who called himself Hedge.
Mr. Verres then arrives, terrifying Tedd (because Tedd has been knowingly breaking rules like crazy for days). Elliot, believing that the government will lock up the duplicate created by the diamond, pretends that they don’t know whether he or Ellen is the duplicate, to Ellen’s guilt-tripped surprise. Mr. Verres denies any ill intent, although his job is to cover things up, and they all leave the school to meet up at Tedd’s house after getting cleaned up from the goo. (It is revealed in a flashback panel that Mr. Verres’ job involves aliens in some way.)
Explanations begin, and everybody gets to see the picture on the computer which scared Grace, which is of Lord Tedd being scary and threatening. (His eyes are black with red pupils.) Mr. Verres casually says “I guess Grace didn’t die in that dimension” and then wanders off without any explanation. Susan finds that Jeremy really likes her for some reason, while explaining that she gained access to genuine magic on a class trip to France with Nanase years ago, but agreed to keep it secret. Nanase shows up, dressed very demurely (unlike how she was dressed at school or at the dojo), and she and Ellen laugh at each others’ appearance, then get offended that the other laughed.
Mr. Verres refuses to explain the comment about Grace dying, other than saying “I obviously wasn’t talking about that Grace”. He also makes Ellen cry by being too blunt about her situation and emphasizing that her current personality is basically false (her memories are all those of another person). Elliot reasons that Nanase is the person most likely to be able to calm Ellen down, and the two of them have a conversation and hug, and Ellen comes out and formally introduces herself to everybody, since she is actually a completely new person.
Mr. Verres then reveals that Tedd never needed to test the gun on a human in the first place, because there is a device in the basement specifically made to do that, which infuriates Ellen and Elliot. Also, Mr. Verres says that Tedd turns himself into a girl all the time (which disturbs him — this eventually becomes a plot point) so all of this should not have been a cause for panic in the first place, and Ellen finally zaps Tedd with her palm beam and refuses to change him back. Tedd worries what Grace will think, but actually she thinks it’s great that he now has long hair, and wants to play with it later.
Justin finds a note on the refrigerator from Mr. Verres to Tedd, but it is indecipherable — he, Nanase, and Sarah all try to read it (and think it says messages which would be more appropriate to themselves). Mr. Verres arrives and says that it told Tedd that he, Mr. Verres, would be bringing home materials for the TF gun within a few days, so actually Tedd should have known not to panic about the gun in the first place. This makes Ellen even angrier, until Tedd tries to read it and also gets it wrong, and then Ellen herself looks at it and realizes there was no chance Tedd could possibly have known what it said.
Mr. Verres tells everybody what to keep secret (everything, basically), and says that Ellen will henceforth — subject to Elliot’s parents’ approval — be living with Elliot’s family as his long-lost sister, but going to school at Moperville South (with Justin and Nanase) rather than North. Elliot finally changes back (again painfully) from being a cat-person, and everybody goes home.
Elliot’s parents are, again, weirdly unconcerned about suddenly having a second child, and also about all the weird things which have happened to Elliot:
After first teasing Elliot and then confirming that he is really okay with her existing and living in the same house, Ellen goes to sleep (in Elliot’s bed while he sleeps on the floor).
This ends the “Sister” storyline; the next section in the archives is New And Old Friends. I intend to post a reply to this post which will continue the summary from this point through the end of the story arc “Shadows After Dark”. (“Shadows After Dark” more or less ends the era where the artwork and plot of the strip were noticeably influenced by Dragon Ball and the current big story arc began. With a few hiatuses, the current big story arc has been running for nineteen years now, so there’s plenty more to read.) After that point, there is no question that if you are interested you should read the actual comic.

you're mine and we belong together | chapter one | steve harrington x reader
this story is mine. i originally posted on my AO3.
will have stranger things season 4 spoilers from volume 1! SUMMARY:
Y/N is a new Senior student at Hawkins High School. She finds herself friends with Max, Dustin, and Eddie. A new start means a new job - in which Y/N takes Robin's position at Family Video since Robin is getting promoted to manager. This leads to Dustin introducing Y/N to Steve. They get off to a rocky start but find themselves growing closer and closer. The Byers have moved back.
Eddie failed his senior year again but that's okay. We get to experience the icon he is.
Also, I don't know much about Dungeons and Dragons, so just know that I'm trying my hardest to write it correctly. I've even rewatched episodes and looked at parts of the rulebook.
Y/N is from {CITY, STATE} and never expected to be in Hawkins, Indiana, but here she is. Y/N has H/C hair and E/C eyes, can't forget to mention her unique style.
Y/N = your name H/C = hair color E/C = eye color
POV alters throughout the story but usually starts off in third-person and proceeds to first-person.
-----------------------
"I want to introduce a new face to the Hellfire Club..."
The room is dimly-lit, joined by the other group members. The curly-haired leader, Eddie, raises a brow at you. A smirk appears on his face as he extends his arms widely in an inviting gesture.
"Hi, I'm Dustin!" The other curly-haired boy interrupts, before gesturing for his friends to introduce themselves.
"I'm Mike, this is Will, and this is Erica." He speaks in a fast tone, seemingly wanting to get the introductions done and over with.
Eddie flashes a gaze at you, gesturing for you to introduce yourself. "I'm Y/N, I'm from {CITY, STATE} and I just moved to Hawkins with my family..."
"How long have you been playing Dungeon and Dragons?" Mike questions, seeming to test your knowledge.
"A few years, maybe five or six?"
"Favorite class?"
"Hard to choose but usually Cleric or Druid."
The guys seem impressed but you know they're not done. Trust me, this isn't your first club.
"Favorite villain to go against?" This time Will asks a question. You're a bit surprised because he seems anti-social but you can relate.
"Vecna and Orcus. They're challenging but tease in the perfect way."
Erica smiles at you, looking at Eddie, "You got another awesome girl in your hands."
"Hell yes," You reply, both you and Erica give each other fist-bumps.
Eddie clicks his tongue against his teeth, flashing you both a look. You stand back, crossing your arms across your chest. "Yes?"
"What's your class and level?"
You amusingly scoff, combing your fingers through your hair. "Half-Elf. Cleric. Level 13. I am Madame Castle. I may strike with a poison-soaked dagger or may strike with my almighty spells."
"Alrighty, thus moves forward into reign."
It begins. Mike and Will move in. Erica prepares to strike any monsters. You approach the board, blatantly staring at the leader. You countdown. Five. Four. Three. Two. One.
"The Cleric arrives on the field. A new face to our quest. Hooded members of our village chant welcoming chords." Eddie narrates, beginning to harmonize, in a way.
THE POV CHANGES
The lit candles around us seem to flicker, almost as if the game was real. Almost as if the game was coming to life. "Servants of Orcus arrive. They're loyal to their Lord and will strike. Madame Castle, will you strike first?"
I take the D20 dice, clasping it into my hand, rolling it around before letting it fall across the board. We watch it turn a few times before landing on 14.
"I strike using an exclusive spell within my sources. I use a mace in the other hand, striking once before chanting my magic on this monster." I narrate back, making my move and marking my territory.
"One down. Four to go." Eddie declares, seemingly teasing me. Every leader enjoys teasing a new member but I'm not a newcomer. I bite back - making my objective known.
"The spell isn't of the multiple one, it can kill as many as a ton," I reply, pointing to my dictum card. "It's always a part of my equipment."
"Nice one!" Mike calls out, patting me on the back a few times.
"The remaining two servants charge forward. They see their foes dead on the ground. They prepare to shake this town. They chant, 'All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide Us Strength!' over and over." Eddie reads dramatically, moving two of the characters forward on the board. He begins to repeat the chant.
"All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide us Strength! All Hail, Our Lord Orcus, For He Will Provide us Strength! It's time to make a move before they unleash their wrath upon you."
I look at Mike, Will, and Erica. We gather together for a moment, strategizing our next attack.
Before we can make our move, the bell rings, meaning it's time to go home. Did it go by that fast? Eddie laughs, knocking over the pieces, "Lord Orcus' servants devour you all into a deep slumber."
"Oh, fuck you, Eddie." I jokingly shout, laughing at him. He seems surprised but nevertheless laughs back. "Shit, I promised my parents that I would look for a job today. Does anyone know if any place is hiring?"
Dustin raises his hand, "The Family Video store! Our friend works there. They aren't closing for like, another hour, so we can head over there."
"Let's get going because I have a curfew."
"You're 18, right?"
"Well, yeah, but that doesn't change strict parents."
Dustin agrees with me, nodding in a sense of understanding. "Yeah, I get that. We get interrogated by our parents often..."
"Are you serious?" I laugh out as I put my backpack on, pulling my hair into a ponytail. They all nod -- except for Eddie. Then again, he's 20-years-old. Not going to question that.
"I have no clue where it's at so Eddie, you're driving!" I finish off, turning around to look at him. "You got a car or do you wanna drive mine?"
"I-I got a car... Don't even question that."
"Sorry but you never know, trust me. A lot of people at my old school didn't have cars. They usually did carpool or some shit like that."
--------------------------------
We arrive at the store, right on time. Dustin is the first to get out, ushering us over to the store. "Come on, slowpokes. Come on!"
I get out of the car, following Dustin, "I'm coming, hold up dude."
Dustin opens the door for me, the bell ringing, signaling the attention of the staff member. This must be Dustin's friend? He looks like he's in his twenties. I give Dustin a stare, "Is this...?"
"Yeah, yeah! He used to date Mike's sister and he's so cool. Practically a babysitter but..."
"I'm not the goddamn babysitter, Dustin, we've talked about this." The guy intrudes in, arguing with Dustin.
"Steve, this isn't the time..."
"You're the one coming in here and telling this chick that I'm your babysitter. That's not appealing whatsoever."
"Not true, some women love men who care for kids."
"Whatever, Henderson! Anyways, are you new around here?" Steve turns to me and we make eye contact. I nod softly.
"Yeah, I just move here from {STATE} but um..." I start, nervously biting the inside of my cheek. "Dustin was telling me that you have a job opening here?"
"Yeah, yeah. It's all yours!"
I knit my brows together, "What if I'm a serial killer?"
"Are you a serial killer?"
"No but..."
"Then you're hired! Trust me, I need all the help I can get. We can do a more thorough interview tomorrow. I'm beat but welcome to Family Video. Hourly pay is $7. We can work out your schedule. Just come here after three tomorrow, sound good?"
He runs his fingers through his hair. I smile a bit, "Yeah, sounds good. Nice to meet you, Steve!"
"Wait... What's your name?" He drops the tapes that are in his arms. I bend over and help him with them, looking him directly in the eyes.
"I'm Y/N."
We stay like that for a few seconds but get up from off the ground. "Well, uh, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah, yeah," I reply before heading out with Dustin.
"You're totally into him."
"I just met him, Dustin. Don't make assumptions."
He begins to laugh, nudging his shoulder into me, winking. I roll my eyes, chuckling to myself. Eddie propped up against his car, smoking a cigarette. "Y'all done?"
"Yeah but Eddie, can you pick me up tomorrow morning. I left my car in the school parking lot."
Eddie groans, "Why can't we just go get it now?"
"Because I don't feel like it and I'm sure you don't either."
Eddie stands there for a second, before nodding. "Yeah, that's true."
"Wait, Y/N, where do you live?" He blows the smoke out of his mouth, letting the ashes fall to the ground.
"Uh, on Lockwood Drive, something like that."
He looks at me, dropping his cigarette, smudging it into the ground with his shoe.
"Alright, let's get going."

Cold. That was the only thing you could feel. The only thing you had felt for the past several hours, at least. Well, feel in a loose sense of the term. Your limbs were numb, stiff and unable to move. You had been shuffling forward with no real sense of direction for who knows how long now, with no end in sight, no shelter from the elements you were forced to endure. Your home had been attacked by massive monsters- not quite man, not quite human. You parents had ushered you and your siblings out of your home, but now you were the last of your family line. One by one, your family had been picked off by your attackers, but each time you had managed to wriggle your way out of the situation. At one point you had even ducked into the woods to escape the beasts, but now that you had returned to the village you didn’t know what landmarks were what; almost everything you could recognise had been destroyed. You did, however, manage to find the Maiden of War, a statue that was in the centre of a roundabout like pathway that tractors and wagons often used. In normal life at least. Nearby to that, up some stone steps, was a stone door with a carving that frightened most of the children of the village, even with the two reliefs missing. However, this time, the reliefs were there, and the gateway had opened ever so slightly. Void of hope, and with every other option exhausted, you shuffle towards it, slipping through the crack, and starting up the snow-covered pathway to who knows where. Though, by looking up, you assumed that it lead to the massive castle which loomed over the village and it’s surroundings.
The trek up there was probably much shorter than it seemed to be. There was a drawbridge that lay over a small, shallow body of water, and your footsteps echo off of it as you cross into a dark and rocky tunnel. It’s very dimly lit- nothing more than wall mounted torches and the fading remaining light to guide your way. You felt your way along to stone wall, the surface cold to the touch, not that you could tell all that much. Eventually, you came to a door. It was tall, much taller than you, although it was only about average height in reality. You pressed all your weight against it, and slowly- oh so slowly- did it creak open. You scurried inside, pushing the door shut once more behind you. After catching your breath you take a moment to observe your surroundings- you were in a rather lavish room, just large enough to be classed as a hall, with hard, marble floors and a tiny staircase onto a more raised floor. You clamber up them, and notice a rather detailed portrait in front of you, of three beautiful young women, with tied up brown hair, sitting together in what appeared to be a forest or woodland clearing; it was a little bit hard to tell since the women took up most of the picture. You tilted your head slightly as you got lost in the colours and brushstrokes, wondering who these women were and what they did to warrant such a wonderful portrait. Of course, there was a plaque beneath it- most likely holding some of the information you wanted- you couldn’t read it, and it was a little too high for you anyway.
The sound of an opening door somewhere down the hall to your left catches your attention. Without knowing what else to do, you start to walk towards it, staying close to the walls and running your hand slowly along it. You push through a few more doors, before coming to a large hall- occupied with a chair, small table, assorted plants and even a chest of drawers in a corner. Your eyes roam upwards, and this room alone could house the entirety of the village, perhaps two or three times over. You knew the castle was big- it often occupied conversation among the children of the village- but this took your breath away. Not only was it huge, but it was ornate, more ornate than anything you had seen before in your life. One mere trinket from this room alone could have fed your family for at least two months, had they been alive still to see this. You hear another door close behind you, and you spin round to see if who is there. You can only hope that the residents of this castle take pity on you. But, you see nothing. No one. You’re incredibly confused by this, and you have to glance this way and that to make sure that there’s no one around you. All you can find is a few flies. Wait. There’s more than a few. There’s three whole clouds. You give a small shriek and duck to the floor, covering your head and face to try and hide away from the bugs, making sure they didn’t get near your face. If they didn’t get near your face, you could pretend they weren’t there at all.
The only problem was, you could still hear the buzzing of their wings. You felt a few beat against your back, as the sounds began to warp and change. From buzzing and droning to... Laughter? Yes, it was laughter, three different laughs to be exact. Fearfully, you look up from your arms, to see three, rather fearsome looking young women in front of you. In surprise you bury your face into your arms again- if you couldn’t see them, they couldn’t see you, right? The three girls look between one another, slightly confused. Not at your behaviour, but more at how you- a mere child- had managed to get yourself up into the castle. The one standing in the middle, one with red, oddly shaved hair, crouched down in front of you, tilting her head curiously. She glanced over her shoulder at the other two fly women, who shrugged at her; they didn’t know who you were or how you got into the castle either. “Child?” The one in front of you spoke, her voice like silk to your ears, especially after their piercing laughs and the roars of the Lycans. You shakily lift your head up again, looking up at her with tears of fear starting to prick at the corners of your eyes. She holds her hand out to you, trying to give you a smile of reassurance. It works to some extent, though you don’t have too much of a choice other than to take the woman’s hand, so you carefully do so. She helps you to your feet, and you see the other two women staring at you. The blonde women looks to the last one, a brunette wearing a yellow variation of the pendant worn by all three. “Go tell mother.” The blonde said to her, to which the brunette burst into a cloud of flies in reply, swooping off down a hall. You give a yelp of surprise, hiding behind the legs of the woman who’s hand you still clutch to. She looks at you, confused for a second.
She sighs, and starts to tug you along. “Come on.” She urges, rather impatiently, dragging you off down a side hall, where you can hear a couple of voices as you approach another door. The blonde woman pushes the door open, “Mother.” She greets, speaking to someone sitting in a plush, velvety chair. Whoever is sitting down places a crimson glass on a small table in front of her, before getting to her feet. “Well, let’s take a look at the child.” She speaks, and your jaw practically drops at her height. You hardly even reach her knees. You’re not sure whether to remain in awe, or to let the fright and fear set in. She looks down at you, regarding you briefly before starting to smile. “Why... I don’t see why you were so panicked, Cassandra...” She spoke to the brunette stood beside her chair, sent ahead of the other two with you. “Look at her- she poses no threat. It was chance she happened upon us, was it not?” She looked to the woman, who has lowered her head respectfully. “Yes, mother.” She replied, before moving her gaze over to you again. “What are we to do with her? She is human, what if-” “Ah-ah.” The tall woman interrupts. “No what-ifs.” She says sternly, before turning her attention fully to you. “What happened to your family, little one?” She asks, not bothering to get down on your level. You take a moment to answer, which the Lady of the castle allows, considering you are merely a child, and in a strange new environment. She could understand any fear you may have, she has been there herself in the past. “The.. The monsters.” You squeak, and the woman hums softly, looking at her three daughters briefly.
In her mind, you were a child without a family, a child with need of a home and a family. She gave a curt nod to herself, folding her arms over her chest. “Well, then we shall be your new family.” She tells you, and the shock is clear on your face. “What..?” You whisper, your voice hardly audible to any of the other women in the room. “We shall be your new family.” She declares proudly again, “These are your new sisters. Bela.” She gestures to the woman still holding loosely onto your hand, with the shaved red hair. “Daniela.” She gestured to the blonde woman on the other side of you, “And Cassandra.” She placed a hand on the shoulder of the girl closest to her. “And you can call me mother.” She smiled brightly at you, stepping forward slightly, and bending down, opening her arms to you. “Come here, child.” She coos to you, as Bela drops your hand. You shuffle towards her, and as soon as you’re close enough, she scoops you up into her arms, resting you against her shoulder, cradling you with a warm smile. “Come now, let us find you a room...” She whispers, and as she starts walking through the seemingly endless maze of hallways you feel yourself drifting off to sleep in the arms of.. Well, your mother. Despite only just meeting her, you feel safe with her and her daughters, your sisters. You knew you’d be happy here, happier than you would be anywhere else, especially in the ruins of the village you once called home.

i hate you, i love you (k.dy)

pairings: CEO!Doyoung x Fem!Reader, Johnny x Fem!Reader rating: 18+ genre: angst and smut warnings: swearing, explicit sexual situations - hate sex, dirty talk wc: 3k+ prompt: 'i hate you'
a/n: This is a part of Candy Hearts Collab hosted by @127-mile . Text in blockquote are text messages.Thank you for beta reading simmi(@sly-merlin ) and indi(@ncteaxhoe). Not proofread excuse the mistakes please contact me if you would like to do so. Enjoy! - xo aria
Doyoung:
I don't know if you'll even read this but if you do, I want you to know that what we have for two years was not a game for me. Maybe we can't start being honest with each other. When you make up your mind you know where to reach me.
Mina really knows how to dress you up to the nines, you'll give her that.
"It's not bad," you nod at your reflection approvingly as you examine the dress you wrestled yourself in, clinging to your body in the right places effectively enhancing your silhouette. The soft silky texture of satin feels exquisite against your skin however you can’t exude the confidence the dress might have channeled you with. You don’t feel grand in fact you feel the opposite;
You want to cancel the date.
"Oh for christ's sake, ______. Maybe try to put some enthusiasm into this," Mina spun you around to face her, your back to the whole body mirror where a while ago you two were examining the outfit she picked up from the back of your closet - where dressier clothing of yours reside not seeing the light of the day unless for special occasions.
Placing both her hands on your shoulders, "You were so excited when you called me to pick something to wear. What happened?" She further inquired.
You heave a sigh, "I don't know I am just not in a mood to go out on a date with a stranger," you admitted.
Mina pulls your eyes back to hers, gleaming with determination. "You are ______, an economics major who graduated on top of her class, who landed a new job as a senior financial analyst despite being in the industry for only three years. Now repeat it," Mina orders you.
"What does it have to do with -" you rolled your eyes, and whined dramatically.
She clicks her tongue on the roof of her mouth in displeasure, "Go on say it"
"I am ______, graduated on the top of my class and landed a new position as a senior financial analyst despite my tenurity," you mumble in a low voice.
"Good," Mina coddled you as if you are an infant who uttered her first word, "now add I am young, smart, and men want me."
You open your mouth to protest but Mina only pinned you with a hard look and you know you will not be getting out of this until you do as she says.
"I am young, smart, and men want me." You did as she told you.
Begrudgingly you did feel a lot better.
This is the third step of banishing Kim Doyoung in your life entirely.
First is to send a resignation letter - done.
Second, secure a new employment - done.
Third is to pursue a romantic relationship.
"Now let's get you ready for your date." Mina pulled you to the present, squeezing your bare shoulders to comfort you.
"I know that what you did is really hard. The sudden big change and all but today's Valentine's day you need to have a little fun today."
"I know Mina, now do my makeup." You pulled her to where your vanity table is located as you paste a smile on your face in order to placate her worries.
--------
If people were to know why you are doing this they might have called you silly.
After graduating from university you were offered the position of financial analyst in his company - a small but budding start up in Tech. Never would you have expected to land a job in your chosen field straight out of college. You are doing what you have envisioned yourself doing: analysing the trends and forecasting sales of the company's cloud solutions. You are comfortable with your current living situation, not what you have imagined after your parents cut you off no longer sending you an allowance. You thought you'd be working your ass off to make ends meet. Thankfully, the pay was high enough for you to live in an apartment in the city, pay your bills in time, and afford luxuries you knew that most people your age wouldn't have the money for.
Everything seems perfect right? A job that you genuinely love, good pay, living in the heart of the city but of course you just have to develop feelings for your boss: Kim Doyoung. And that complicates everything; enough for you to decide to completely start over again.
Kim Doyoung has managed to worm into every nook and cranny of your life.
Kim Doyoung is a magnetic man, of few words, stern straight brows, and wide shoulders swaddled in elegant suits. He runs the company based on data-driven decisions unafraid of taking risks that produces the highest profitable outcome. Working at his company where all ten workers directly reports and closely works with him, you and your colleagues have developed quite a personal relationship with him. It was not conventional per se but you guess this is how all start-ups operate with a slightly different work culture. Unlike big corporations there is no bureaucracy, filling for leaves can just be a phone call or a visit to his office.
As his only financial analyst almost never leaving his side. You'd like to think that Doyoung might have developed a soft spot for you, maybe not in a romantic sense but in a platonic friendly way. He values your opinion enough that he asks for your input in any pivotal decisions either in work or his personal life. Whether to facilitate the migration to cloud as external contractors of big corporations or to oversee the renovation of his penthouse. And in small things too honestly, after all he asked for your help to decide whether the decor should be a Bohemian vibe or modern minimalistic black and grey.
That was until you fucked after the in-office celebration of closing a big contract. One moment he is talking about the vase that serves as a centerpiece of his dining table that you helped him pick, the next he was pulling your arm leading you to a dimly lit room.
Yes, you did drink but you were sober enough to protest if you didn't want it; who are you kidding? Of course you wanted it to happen. Not one word of objection was uttered as he pinned you to the wall with your legs circling his waist. Instead of protests what left your lips was series of moans and his name in breathless pleas that he had to stuff your mouth with his fingers or else your colleagues will hear the two of you having sex two rooms away from them.
Doyoung slipped out of you stepping back to let you down.Your stilettos made a clicking noise as it came in contact with the tiled floor that echoed in your eardrums; deafening. Coming back down to earth and from your high is also the moment when you realized the mess you put yourself into by fucking Doyoung - your boss - in a storage room.
You righted both your disheveled appearances - to look as normal as possible - in order to go back to the pantry where the celebration was still in full swing. The tense silence that wrapped the atmosphere makes you want to shrivel in shame, both of you were aware of the line that you have crossed.
The unspoken words were hanging in the air -
It was a mistake. Let's forget this ever happened. - and you refused to acknowledge the elephant in the room, the stillness making you uncomfortable by the second.
"_______ -," Doyoung started.
"We don't have to talk about it Doyoung."
You moved for the door, not looking back to peek at Doyoung's expression. You just wanted to get out of the dusty storage room, the stuffy air and Doyoung's proximity, suffocating you.
You thought you were smart enough not to make the same mistake again but you seem to have a penchant for getting hurt because you did it again and again every chance you got. When the effects of orgasm are wearing off and you are left naked and vulnerable you always find yourself swearing that it will be the last time but you already knew you were lying.
You just can't get enough of Doyoung even though it hurts to pretend that each encounter was meaningless.
Sleeping with someone where you never knew where you stand at is excruciatingly painful.
You can't be jealous when you hear about the new girl he's with because you have no right.
It is painful when Doyoung gives you some false hope. Visiting you almost everyday in your small office bearing lunch for the two of you. He often spends half of his day loitering in your space, perching himself on the corner of your desk pushing around the knick knacks around your desk while you are busy with work.
Only to dash it when he tells you about the latest girl he's seeing which would mean your ears would bear the brunt of his relationship woes until it falls apart only for the vicious cycle to repeat again when he found himself in another one of his flings.
Everyday as he asks for relationship advice you feel yourself getting worn out and the green eyed monster roaring it's head, you try your hardest to tamp it down with your rational thinking.
What hurts the most is he started his series of flings a week after you hooked up, rubbing on your face that it means nothing to him at all.
So after countless hours, days, and months of anguish you started planning your escape.
--------
There are so many thoughts running through your head it starts with: Did I overdress? Is Johnny having a good time?
Then drifts into completely unrelated manners.
Did I manage to say goodbye to all of my co-workers? Clear out my desk in my office? Surrender my elevator pass to the friendly security guard? Retrieve my favorite mug in the pantry?
Will everything be ok? Will I excel at my new company? Will I fit in a big corporation?
Will I miss Doyoung?
Am I doing the right thing?
Johnny cleared his throat which broke your reverie, your eyes settling in his face but Johnny seems to find the table napkin worthy of his attention rather than maintaining eye-contact with you.
"I had fun today but I think -," You see Johnny hesitating to continue his sentence, linking and unlinking his fingers instead.
You get it and you can't blame Johnny for his lack of interest. You were barely with him today after the small talk had died down and the two of you had finished your meals. You didn't make an effort to get to know him, the conversation was one sided as you barely threw the questions back at him; replying in terse short sentences as if you would rather be anywhere but having dinner with him.
"Yeah me too but it's really nice to spend Valentine's with you though and getting all dolled up. Makes me forget I am single," You joked and flashed him a smile; relieved, Johnny finally met your eyes as his actions mirror yours curving his lips into a smile.
-------
You hailed a cab for a ride back to your apartment, settling in the backseat you instructed and gave the address to the driver as his radio blasted cheesy romantic songs in your ear, making you feel more disappointed with how bad your date with Johnny went.
As the cab speeds through the city, the citylights intermingle with each other creating a spectrum of colors that bounce back at the cab’s windows, the scenery of skyscrapers blurring past your eyes and your mind returns back to musing which you know is a dangerous territory because somehow your mind always returns back to him.
Doyoung
What exactly did you want to be with Doyoung?
You want him to like you? No, You want to mean something to him, to be the special person he runs to whenever he's devastated, to be the first person he calls when he's completely utterly bursting with joy. You want him to be completely aware of your presence that even just a mere mention of your name will evoke something in him, make his heart beat a little faster and cause some flush to bleed through his cheeks.
You want him to be endeared with your habitual tics - how you drum your fingers in every surface when you are in deep thought, a line maring your forehead between your brows and make his lips itch to kiss it. You want him to be captivated with your idiosyncrasies and find it charming, you want him to adore everything about you that made you, distinctly you.
You want him to want you.
Your phone vibrated and interrupted your stupor and upon seeing Doyoung’s name attached to the notification. Your fingers quickly unlocked your phone, fingers ringing from an adrenaline rush just from the sight of his name.
Doyoung:
Come over?
And just like that you inform your cab driver to make a detour and drive to Doyoung’s instead.
Doyoung opened the gigantic door of his penthouse where he found you on the other side of the door, shifting your weight from foot to foot, nervous to be in the same perimeter as him. When the gap was big enough to see you his eyes roved over to your body and noted that you were dressed up nicely for a date. His eyes then turned into slits as he glared at you.
“Have fun with your date?” He questioned and you can see his jaw set - the muscles clenching tight.
You didn’t answer, you don’t want him to know the pathetic evening you spent with Johnny as your mind drifts to thoughts of him; instead of actively participating with Johnny’s effort of back and forth.
As if knowing that you wouldn’t answer, his arms went to grab your forearms pulling you inside and leading you to the stairs up his loft where his bed is, you followed meekly behind him. Reaching his loft you look around and try to commit to memory the layout of the room; promising yourself that this will be the last time you will set foot in this room.
Doyoung attached his lips to your neck which drew a soft moan from you, spurred by your sounds he continued to ravish your neck oscillating between harshly sucking and peppering soft kisses on the expanse of the skin of your neck. His hands running at your sides smoothly and gradually getting closer to the underside of your breasts with each pass, when he finally cupped your mounds you arch in his palms further pushing yourself closer to him, greedy for his attention from all the teasing that he has done.
When he spoke again it fanned over the nape of your neck making your skin tingle from the warmth, “Why can’t you understand that I am the only one who can make you feel this way.”
You can smell the residue of whisky on his breath and you wanted to taste it on your tongue even though from all the times you have slept with him you two have never kissed. You have drawn the line there for kissing is much more intimate than slapping bodies againsts each other for satisfaction. Kissing can be done without sexual notions but a simple act between couples and it is a glaring truth that you two were not.
You found yourself naked and sprawled on his queen size bed where you have lain your back many times but never spent a night in. Even the off white color of his ceiling is familiar to you as if mocking you for all the times you said you wouldn’t see it again. As he slips your dress down your body, your eyes water and it pooled in your eyes ready to spill over. ‘This is the last time,’ you tell yourself again, 'this is the last time that I will be Doyoung’s beck and call.' When he was finished trailing his lips down and also discarding his clothes at the other side of the bed you managed to swipe the tears that gathered in your eyes and look at him.
Towering over you he was a sight to behold and you trace the line of his body with your eyes, caressing the dips on his collarbones and the line that leads down to his cock as his face coil into a smirk smug with the knowledge that he can turn you into a whimpering mess.
“What do you want?” He asked while splaying his hands on your stomach, his thumb drawing circles on your clit which made your moans even louder and your pussy clench on nothing. You hate that he was the only one who can make you feel this way, reducing you into a pleading mess as you move your hips to the rhythm that he has set.
You don’t have to tell him your guttural whines already told him what you wanted and he obliged inserting his length into you slowly, while you gripped his sheets until your knuckles turned white. You loved the way he filled you and the burn that accompanies when he stretched your clamping muscles on him.
So you let all your reasoning go because Doyoung’s cock pumping inside you felt good, too good.
He knows your body like an instrument, putting the right pressure and hitting the spots that makes you throw your head back repeatedly. You can feel the falter in his quick thrusts and knows that he is near his end. Doyoung makes this one sound at the back of his throat when he orgasms … and you follow suit too as he falls apart.
It took a few seconds for him to untangle his legs and arms from your figure and it took you a couple of minutes of staring at the walls, waiting until you felt your legs can support you before you stood up and searched for your dress and undergarments. You can hear the rustle of the sheets as Doyoung sits on his bed watching your back as you slip on your panties and pull your dress back in its place.
“So tell me why did you leave the company?” Doyoung asked, his voice ringing loudly in your ears.
“I told you already I want to work in a big company,” You try to answer nonchalantly.
“Really? Or does it have something to do with me?
“Oh for fuck’s sake Doyoung. The world doesn’t revolve around you!” You shouted at him as you turned around to face him. Your ire rising as you see the cold stoic look on his face - unaffected by your outburst.
“Then why does it feel like you are running away from me?” He stood up from the bed and warily approached you as if you will lash at him any moment.
“I hate you,” (I love you) you whispered under your breath the words not meant from his ears but he heard it anyway. Disbelief painted his features he cannot grasp the reason why you are suddenly acting like this.
He reached out to touch your arm but you swerved his hand like a hurt animal nursing a wound and Doyoung then noticed your bloodshot eyes and defensive stance.
“Don’t touch me. Whatever destructive thing this is Doyoung, I am done. We’re done,” You stated bluntly your voice devoid of emotions a complete contrast with how you hugged yourself tightly with your arms.
“You don’t mean that,” Doyoung said adamantly as color drained from his face, making his pale complexion - paper white.
“You can’t just walk away,” He added more to convince himself than you because he can see that hard look in your eyes - already set in the decision of walking away from him.
“Watch me Doyoung,” your lips curved into a cruel bitter smile.
You leave him with those words as he watches your retreating figure until it completely disappears from his line of vision.
--------
That night when you received a text from Doyoung, you never bothered to open it, opting to delete it and completely block all communications with him. You need to move on and in order to do it you need to sever all ties that might delude you to come back in his arms again.
You need to escape from Kim Doyoung for it's been due too long.

Leorio, Hisoka, Illumi, and Chrollo Head Canons #2
What’s up y’all! Thank you so much to the people who have given me feedback about what posts you all would like to see! This post will be about the “Adult Trio” and Leorio about how they would help their significant other with a subject in college. This one is a good suggestion! I’m going to incorporate fluff in this, as I am a sucker for fluff. I hope you all enjoy this! I most certainly do. This post is about 2687 words but don't worry, it's worth the read! These head canons came from my mind its a coincidence that some of these pictures match the thoughts. Portentous (old English) means wonderful or marvelous (in modern English) FYI: I am thinking about creating a discord server for both Voltron and Hunter x Hunter fans. I don’t know how to use the fancy perks of discord yet, so if you know how to and can help me out, send me a message! Alright, let’s get to it! Obviously these images are from Pinterest.
Discord Server for Voltron and HxH fans!

Leorio
“Mr. Leorio”, as we all know, is a sharp guy. He dresses in a suit, carries a suitcase, and wants to be a doctor. This man knows everything about academics, especially math and science. He will need to know these subjects to be a successful medical doctor.
Leorio received an A- in Calculus II and a B+ in Organic Chemistry. He was the only one that passed with flying colors while everyone else barely made it. He didn’t gloat in their faces but as soon as he got into the hallway he jumped for joy.
He was extremely happy about his progress and counted the days until graduation even though that was in 5 years. Wow! Don’t we love graduate school?!
He deserved the high grades because he spent countless nights studying missing parties, football games, and being with you just to make sure he was on the right track to graduating on time.
As we all know, Leorio wanted to pursue this career because he witnessed his best friend dying in front of him powerless to save him. The care for his friend would have been too expensive. Obtaining his degree was in honor of his friend; he’d save countless children, women, and men who’d all thank him for his hard work.
Leorio didn’t socialize much, but he did find himself hanging around a group of classmates that were a part of a co-ed fraternity that provided information on scholarship money for graduate school and job opportunities. This is where he met you. You didn’t want to be a doctor but instead wanted to be a computer scientist and decided to volunteer for this fraternity job fair.
As he rejoiced, his smile faded when he saw you walking down the hallway; tears falling from your face not caring who stared at you. He quickly walked up to you, put his arm around your back, and gave you a soft hug.
“What’s the matter,” he asks.
You were failing Calculus, a class you’ve been taking since the 12th grade but for some reason, you couldn’t pass it. Everyone else had A’s and B’s, while you had a D. D’s aren't accaetable in college; most make you retake the class.
“Don’t worry. I’ve just passed my midterm. I can help you study. You’ll pass; trust me.”
Later on that evening, he kept his promise but gave it a unique twist. He kept the lights off and lit 4 Yankee-sized candles in the room that smelled like Lavender. In the background, he had piano jazz playing on his speaker. You felt confused for a moment. You and Leorio weren’t necessarily dating but you both flirted with each other here and there. He wasn’t a social butterfly, but he felt comfortable talking to you.
“Um...what’s the music for?”
“It helps me concentrate. Believe it or not, it helps my brain flow. You like it don’t you?”
“No, actually I don’t.” Truth be told you loved it but you wanted to pull his strings a little. He looked up with a confused look.
“Ok. I’ll turn it off.”
“I'm kidding! It’s great!”
Whenever he cannot solve a Calculus question, he reviews similar problems from Algebra II. He applies this knowledge to your problem.
“Perform the indicated function evaluations for f(x)=3−5x−2x^2 . I’ll solve the first part for an example: f(6+t) simply means you will exchange “x” for 6+t. It will look like f(6+t)=3-5(6+t)-2(6+t)^2=-49 . You’d distribute -5 and -2 to the numbers inside of the brackets in which they are next to.”
Wow, that was easy! Wait, not he must think you’re stupid.
“You must think I’m stupid, don’t you?”
“Of course not! It took me a while to understand it too. You’ll apply the same knowledge for the rest.”
After what seemed like 4 hours (which was 2), you finally finished your homework! It was probably wrong but at least you made it past the 1st question! As you blew out the candles and turned on your LED lights instead, you see Leorio sleeping on your couch. Something about his soft face made you smile and place your hand over your heart.
“My little doctor,” you whispered to yourself.
“Well, come give this doctor some company then. I’m freezing over here!”
The throw blanket was large enough for you both. Snuggling on the couch was a great end to a stressful day.

Chrollo
To everyone else Chrollo was “Boss” or “Boss Man” but to you, he was Chrollo. Big C was known for his love for poetry and language.
He read poetry any chance he had at lunch and even dinner. It had gotten so bad that you had to tell him for the millionth time “No books at the table!”
Given his past, he always read at least 2 hours a day or one book a week. Reading is what got him through the day.
He was staying in your dorm for the day to relax because he had taken and passed his midterms to. The young thief thought about hiding in the closet but he didn’t because he sensed that you’d be tense because of midterms.
As you walked through the door, you looked angry, so angry that you could punch a wall. He immediately rose to his feet, threw his arms straight out in front of him, and motioned for you to stop. You just stared at him blankly.
“Come here,” he said like you, on cue, melted in his arms. He was warm and the deepness of his cooing voice vibrated against your neck. “What’s the problem?”
“I’m failing this stupid Shakespeare class!”
“Really?”
“Yes and if I don’t pass this midterm I’m going to fail the class for the 3rd time. I want to drop out! Who needs this scam anyway?!”
Chrollo held you a bit longer until you were ready to sit down and get to business. You pulled out your college’s book about Shakespeare plays and how he used Old English. Chrollo was the perfect man for the job! He’s read Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet several times!
Chrollo read a few stanzas and explained them. He then had you read some on your own and explain them...still you can’t.
He notices the problem immediately. He catches you snuggling comfortably against his toned arm, nearly falling asleep.
Chrollo laid at the very corner of the couch as you lay horizontally placing your head against his chest. You were comfortable but you weren’t able to focus. He notices this and slightly demands that you go sit at the table. When it came to academics, he was serious.
For as long as he had been reading, he has an arsenal of vocabulary words ready to be of use. He created flashcards for you and had you flip them over for nearly an hour. You start to memorize the words!
But you’re not done yet.
“Say the word ‘portentous’.”
“Por-ten-trious…?”
“No. Por-ten-tas.”
“Tias…?”
He moved his chair next to you, just an inch away from your face. He cups your mouth and moves it as he speaks again. This wasn’t a hard clutch, it was soft and he wasn’t irritated but he could sense that you were becoming irritated.
“Por-ten-tas,” he said again.
Instead of letting your cheeks go, his eyes diverted to your lips. They were moist and plump, ready to be met by his.
“Your lips are gorgeous. Kisseth me quite quaint.”
Oh no. Look at the monster you’ve created.
Chrollo created a reward system. Whenever he did things right as a child, he was rewarded with money and jewels. For every word you pronounced and defined correctly, he kissed you once. For each word you got correct in a row, he’d kiss you twice.
Soon enough he had kissed you so much that you couldn’t see straight!
The kisses worked because you passed your midterm! Each kiss placed a stain in your brain that made you remember the definition and how to pronounce it.
You and Chrollo celebrated by drinking champagne and listened to him read Sonnet 23 and 57.

Hisoka
As unusual as it seems, Hisoka is gifted when it comes to Chemistry specifically. That is why you two work well together...there is some chemistry going on between you two.
His hair down and his glasses were his alter ego, it was something that made him act completely different than what you were used to.
When you all were freshmen, he would skip class, attend parties, and would be hungover almost every week but once he was called into the Dean’s office, he changed.
You slightly missed that edgy side of him, but you enjoyed having a serious beau.
Hisoka is a social butterfly and is the life of the conversation and you loved him for it but sometimes it was awkward.
While he was chatting away about Calcium (Ca) and Iron (Fe), you stood there nodding like an idiot. You had NO IDEA about what he was talking about and that is why you were going to drop your chemistry class.
“I saw an imbecile put aluminum foil in the microwave and it burst into flames. How did they not know that Microwaves are the radio waves falling under frequency around 2500 megahertz? Any metallic object detected by radio waves inside the microwave acts as a reflector of radio waves.”
You shove his arm hard. He was acting arrogant in front of his friends. You were used to this but it got on your nerves. You made mistakes, everyone does!...even those that almost burn down the entire dorm room.
You two leave the party and head to his dorm room. Once you were settled, you released a can of anger and threw it all over your boyfriend.
“Hisoka? You just humiliated me.”
“Oh? No one knows that I was talking about you, my dear.”
“Don’t ‘my dear’ me! I asked for your help and you’re ignoring me. I don’t appreciate that. I didn’t ignore you when you sprained your ankle, did I?”
“No, you didn’t, dear. I supposed I have a few hours to kill. What do you need help with?”
Hisoka’s way of studying was much different from other students. He exercises like crazy before he opens his textbook.
He listens to EDM instrumentals while on the treadmill and when he lifts weights. You weren’t standing there like a trophy, he made you lift too.
“Being healthy will help your brain flow more easily. Lift this dumbbell as heavy as you can.”
He ran a mile on the track upstairs. Sweat dripped from his face like he had been standing outside in the rain.
By the time you returned to his dorm, you were beyond tired. You laid your head on his pillow but just as you closed your eyes, he pulled you up on your feet.”
“Not on my watch,” he tutted. “It’s chemistry time.”
You were having trouble memorizing Chemical Formulas and this by far was the most difficult concept you had come across.
To make you stay awake, he turned on a bright LED light and faced it towards the table. The bright light nearly made your head fall off from the pain it reflected in your eyes.
Hisoka grabbed his book and began to write down the major chemicals on the periodic table and their charges.
“Pay attention to the following abbreviations and charges: Calcium is Ca, Chloride is Cl+2, Carbide is C+2, and Carbon Dioxide is CO+2. Read these over and I’ll test you again.”
He did just that but you still weren’t understanding. You were ready to give up.
Stupid scam. Why do I need a piece of paper to determine what I can do? You thought to yourself. Well, it’s obvious. If you can’t do the work now, what makes you think you can do it at a job? Harsh, I know.
“Let me try this,” He said. He carried you to his bedroom and gently placed you on it. He took off his shirt and removed his glasses. “Aluminum has a charge of +3 and Oxygen has -2. If there were three of me and two of my clones disappeared, how many of me are left?”
“Just you, right? One”
“Correct! Excellent.”
Wow, everything started making sense once he took his shirt off.
From then, he just inserted himself into the equation and then it started to make sense! He apologized for running his mouth earlier and promised to keep any more secrets between you two. The night ended with you sleeping in his bed wrapped in a cotton blanket just cuddling and that was it. And bam! You slept as sound.
Illumi
Dating the “hot” quiet history buff was a flex of its own. Sure Illumi didn’t talk to anyone besides you, but it didn’t matter. People swooned if he looked in their direction.
History was a popular major during your era. People were not like their grandparents; they wanted to learn about other cultures besides their own. Illumi’s specialty was in world history and civilizations. The class was very interesting to you but there was so much information, you could barely process it.
Illumi often wrote his essays in one day proofread and all! He often charged people to look their essays over.
One time he made $500 in one year!
Glancing at your transcripts, he notices that you have a C- and offers to help.
“Why are you looking through my stuff?”
Hey, he’s your boyfriend! But still, he should ask.
“Sorry. It was up on the screen,” he said, throwing his hands in the air.
You began to blush in embarrassment. The hottest smartest man in the building now knew that you were failing one of the easiest classes on campus.
Placing his thumb under your chin, he lifted your head to meet his gaze. “There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I can help you.”
“How? I am so behind! I zoned out after chapter 2!”
“We’ll watch a movie.”
“Oh, God! Not one from PBS is it?!”
“Yes. How else are you supposed to learn?”
He turns on the movie and allows you to lay your head on his shoulder but not too much. He is aware of your tricks and he wants you to pay attention.
Every 15 minutes, he pauses the movie and asks you checkpoint questions. If you got them wrong, you had to stand up with your underclothes on (t-shirt and shorts) in the cool room for 10 minutes. If you got the questions right, he allows you to lay more comfortably. You were already in your underclothes but you were under the blanket.
He made you write down key definitions and the embarrassment of each section.
After the movie, he blindfolds you and reads out a term. Surprisingly, you got them all correct!
As a reward for your past midterm, he takes you to dinner at a restaurant where he slips a promise ring on your finger containing your birthstone.

Smile Like Crazy (My Hero Academia)
Primary Universe
YES!! I love Shinsou! I’ve started reading the manga from where season four ends and I’m only a few chapters in, but I already love this quiet loner boy so much! He definitely deserves tickles! Enjoy! ^^
~
“So, what made you want to transfer into the hero course?” Denki asked Shinsou one afternoon. They’d run into each other on their way to their separate dorms, and after talking for a little bit had settled on a patch of grass to continue their conversation. For all his talk about not wanting to make friends, the new kid seemed willing to hang out when invited to. “I mean, don’t get me wrong! You’re really cool and you’ve definitely got what it takes to keep up with the rest of us. I just know that you started out in support. So what made you change your mind?”
Shinsou was silent for a bit, contemplating. Denki waited patiently for him to gather his thoughts. One thing he was learning about the quiet student from 1-C was that if he didn’t answer right away, it didn’t mean he hadn’t heard you. It just meant he was figuring out how best to reply.
“Truthfully, it’s more like I changed my mind about being in support.” Shinsou’s voice was low and soft. “I’ve wanted to be a hero my whole life. It’s just that people always saw my quirk as a threat, not a gift. Many have told me I have a villain’s quirk.”
Denki sat up, appalled on his friend’s behalf. “Dude, seriously? What the heck?”
“I joined the support class because I let them convince me they were right.” Shinsou frowned. “But the more the League of Villains acts up, the more I want to prove to everyone that I’m not one of them. I never have been and never will be. I want to join the hero course because it’s what I wanted to do in the first place.”
There was silence for a brief moment. Then Denki nudged Shinsou. “Good choice, man. I knew you were cool for a reason. That’s a great origin story.”
Shinsou’s lips tugged upward in the hint of a smile. “Origin story, huh?”
“Sure! All heroes have one. You included.”
“Hmm.”
Denki smoothly transitioned into his next question. “Do you have friends in the support class? What do they think of your wanting to transfer?”
The hint of a smile was gone. “No.”
“Wait…you don’t have any friends? At all? What about outside of school?”
“Not really.”
“And you don’t want to make any now? Why not?”
Shinsou looked away. “I’ve never needed them before.”
“Everyone needs friends. Even cool loner guys like you.” Denki nudged him again. “Looks to me like you’re making friends whether you want to or not, though, right? I mean, look at us hanging out right now.”
“I wasn’t trying to make friends,” Shinsou admitted, “but I’m not going to actively stop myself from it if it happens naturally. I wouldn’t mind friends. I’m just no good at getting people to want to be around me.”
“Well, you’re doing perfectly fine with me!”
“Midoriya seems insistent to become my friend as well. Everyone else appears content to leave me be until I’m officially in their league.”
Denki shook his head. “Nah, man, they just want to give you space. You said right off the bat you didn’t want to be friends with anyone, and you spend a lot of time alone. They just don’t want to force themselves on you, that’s all. But hey! You start hanging out with us all more, and soon you’ll get the complete Class 1-A initiation. It’ll be awesome!”
“Class 1-A initiation?” Shinsou glanced at him. “You have that? When has anyone else tried to join your class?”
“Maybe initiation wasn’t the right word.” Denki hummed thoughtfully. “Welcome package? Friendship sealer?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m not entirely sure myself.” The electric hero laughed. “But you’ll fit right in, trust me.”
“If you say so.”
Again, Denki transitioned smoothly. “So what kind of stuff do you like to do?”
Shinsou seemed caught off-guard. “Like, in my free time?”
“Of course.”
“Um.” The purple-haired boy hesitated. “I don’t know. I read a lot.”
“Because you spend a lot of time alone?”
Shinsou glanced away and shrugged.
Denki nudged him again. “Come on, dude! What’s something you really love? Something that makes you smile like crazy?”
Suddenly Shinsou seemed flustered. “I…don’t know. Why do you keep doing that?”
“Doing what?”
“You keep pushing me.”
“It’s a friendly push.” Denki did it again. “See? Like, ‘hey, I’m here for you,’ or ‘hey, I like hanging out with you.’ So out with it! There’s got to be something you’re passionate about.”
“I’m passionate about becoming a hero.”
Kaminari leaned forward. “What if we could find a way to get you some field work? Like the kind of stuff we do for class?” That got a reaction. Shinsou’s eyes lit up, though his expression didn’t change. Denki pointed at him. “Aha! There we go! We really should find a way to make that happen for you.”
“That would be awesome,” Shinsou admitted quietly, glancing away again.
Kaminari couldn’t help himself. He poked his friend’s side while he wasn’t looking, grinning when Shinsou jumped and whirled to face him head-on for the first time. “Uh-oh.”
“What?” Shinsou sounded nervous. “What was that for?”
“Are you ticklish at all, Shinsou?”
Dead silence.
Shinsou blinked, glancing at Denki’s hands, then back up at him. “I…um…”
“It’s a simple question.”
“I…y-yes?”
Denki reached forward and barely managed to scribble along Shinsou’s side before the taller boy was scrambling back, his eyes wide but – astonishingly to Denki – with a nervous smile on his face. He also noticed the usually quiet kid wasn’t trying to run while he had the chance. Something leapt in his chest.
“All right, then, next question.” Kaminari started to crawl forward. “Do you like being tickled?”
Shinsou’s face went hot pink. “K-Kaminari, h-hold on a s-second…”
“It’s a simple question.” Denki was practically looming over him now, and still Shinsou wasn’t moving away.
“W-Where is this coming from?” He sputtered.
“It’s habit at this point.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s kind of a thing in our class.” Denki reached down and pinched his side, grinning at the single giggle he got in response.
“A thing? What…?” Shinsou giggled again, curling up when Kaminari kept at it this time. “Whahahahahat kind of thihihihing?”
“You know! A thing!” Denki replied just to mess with him, using both hands to scribble along his sides and stomach. “Like, we tickle each other a lot? Because we’re friends and we like making each other laugh? That kind of thing.”
“Ahahahahahall of you?”
“Most of us, yeah. And just think – if you start hanging out with us more you can be involved in all of the tickle fighting we do! Sound fun?”
“I…I dohohohohohon’t knohow…”
Denki moved up to his ribs, smirking when Shinsou yelped and started giggling more frantically. “Yeah, you do.”
“Kahahahaminari!” Shinsou squeaked, grinning uncontrollably. He squirmed but didn’t really try to push the electric hero away. “Wahahahahahait!”
“You do like being tickled, don’t you?” Denki teased, going a little harder. “I can see it in your eyes.”
“Hohohohohohow?!”
“Don’t question my brilliance. Just accept it.” Kaminari then straddled his new friend and moved up to his underarms. “Tickle, tickle, tickle~”
“Gah! N-Nohohohohohoho, wahahahahahait!” Shinsou dissolved into hysterical giggles. He pushed weakly at Kami’s hands, squirming and blushing but smiling unabashedly all the while. “Wait, Kahahahahahaminari!”
“Wait for what, exactly? Are you planning to tell me your spot? That would be a nice change of pace.”
“M-My…whahahahahat?”
Denki laughed. “You know, your spot.” He moved even further up, trying Shinsou’s neck and ears, pleasantly surprised when the purple-haired boy squealed and scrunched up his shoulders. “The spot that makes you really, really laugh. The spot that tickles so bad you almost can’t stand it. You’ve got to have one.”
Shinsou finally reached up to pull Denki’s hands away from his neck, still giggling breathlessly. “This is…this is all happening so fast. I wasn’t prepared for this.”
Kaminari smiled, but took the opportunity to check in. “Is this okay? I got a little excited when you reacted so well, but I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
“It’s okay,” Shinsou confirmed, seeming actually shy rather than just quiet for the first time. “I don’t mind. It’s just…I haven’t been tickled in years. I was kind of thinking I never would be again.”
“Think again, my friend!” Kaminari hooked his fingers into Shinsou’s hips. “You’re hanging with the Class 1-A tickle monsters now!”
“ACK!! NO!! NONONONO KAHAHAHAHAMINARI NOHOHOHOHOHOHO!!” Shinsou shrieked, tossing his head back with unrestrained laughter. It was, Denki had to admit, the best thing he’d ever heard in his life. Well, right after Bakugou’s laughter, anyway.
“Ooh, is this your spot?” Denki kneaded his thumbs into the hipbones, laughing along with his friend. “Seems like it to me! You share a death spot with Midoriya. That’s awesome!”
“STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP, PLEASE, KAHAHAHAHAMINARI!!” Shinsou writhed helplessly on the ground, his laughter completely genuine and uncontrollable. He tried to pry Denki’s hands from his hips, but being unable to do so only made it tickle more. “PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE!! NOT THEHEHEHEHEHEHERE!!”
Kaminari laughed again. “You even sound like him when you’re tickled here!”
For several moments, it seemed Shinsou was lost to his own hysterics, laughter spilling out of him in loud, frantic, mirthful waves. He dug his heels into the ground and tried to stifle himself out of habit, but found that Denki would relentlessly drill harder into his worst spot every time he tried, leaving him no choice but to be open about how much fun he was having.
Denki grinned widely at his friend. It was rewarding to help him loosen up and laugh like this. He hummed. “I wonder how you’d like my tickle-shocks?”
For a split second the intense sensations vanished, leaving Shinsou to process what Kami had said only seconds after the fact, when he felt fingers grazing his bare skin. “T-Tihihickle wha-AHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! AAAIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!” Suddenly the ticklish feeling was back, only far more intense than it had been the first time, and Shinsou very nearly lost his mind laughing so hard. “STOPSTOPSTOP PLEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEASE HAHAHAHAHAHAVE MEHEHERCY!! KAMINARIHIHIHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEEEEE!!!”
Denki laughed so hard at Shinsou’s reaction to his tickle-shocks that he had to stop just so he wouldn’t fall over and crush him on the ground. He rolled off of his friend and lay beside him in the grass, giggling words out as best he could. “T-Thahahahaht was the behehehest thing I’ve ehehehever heard, Shinsou!”
Shinsou, for his part, lay panting for breath, still giggling himself. “Thahaht was…the worst thihihihing…I’ve ever enduhuhured…in my life!” He turned his head to Denki, who was already beaming at him. “What was that?”
“My tickle-shocks!” Denki explained proudly, rolling onto his side and propping himself up on an elbow. “I tried it out on Kirishima once a while ago, and it worked so well I just started doing it to other people when I got into tickle fights. It’s an unbeatable attack! Nobody can ever stand it for more than a few seconds.”
Shinsou laughed – on his own this time – and then let out a huge sigh, glancing up at the clouds. “You know, when you asked me what I really liked – what made me smile like crazy – I was afraid to tell you it was this. Tickling.” He smiled. “But if the rest of you all are doing it, why not be part of it? Right?”
“Exactly!” Kaminari smiled back, feeling a warmth in his chest at this unexpected bonding with a new friend. “And don’t worry about the rest of the class. Plenty of us enjoy it to some degree or another. You’ll be in great company.”
Shinsou grinned at him, and Denki couldn’t help but think how refreshing it was to see such a genuinely happy reaction from someone who was usually so quiet and stoic. “I can’t wait.”

enough here to survive
@natsumeweek 2021 day 3; seasons/change
read on ao3
(previous part)
x
It will take almost a full year to convince his father.
Shuuichi has to throw around words like “recruitment” and “investment” and “contingency” that taste like ash in his mouth, feeling like some kind of sleazy salesman.
But that’s what it takes to get the man’s flat refusal to move into reluctant consideration instead.
Explaining Takashi’s situation at home—describing his bruises and the way he flinches when someone raises their voice—isn’t enough to make his dad think it over, but his own family’s health and safety certainly is.
Shuuichi paints him a picture of a potentially powerful protector, should those vengeful spirits they’re all so afraid of come knocking someday; and, if that fails, a fall guy. A patsy. Someone to take the blame.
This is as much as Shuuichi can do for now.
In the meantime, he picks Takashi up from school, as promised.
Sometimes they end up in the park where Shuuichi will help him with his homework, and sometimes they end up at a combini where Shuuichi will cajole him into spoiling his dinner with expensive ice cream. Sometimes Takashi will have marks on his arms from human hands, but at least there are none left there from random yokai anymore.
He comes out of his shell more and more every day, like a brave little hermit crab. It’s amazing the difference it makes just having someone around who sees the same world he sees. It makes a difference to Shuuichi, too. It peels him out of his bitter, angry armor, piece by piece.
Now and then, they encounter some of Shuuichi’s classmates around town. He doesn’t talk to much of anyone at school—and no one goes out of their way to talk to him, either—but apparently he’s much more approachable when there’s a little kid clinging to his hand.
“Is this your brother, Natori?” Hinata, a girl from his homeroom, asks one day. They ran into her outside the convenience store and her eyes lit up when she saw them. Crouching in front of Takashi with bright eyes, she coos, “Oh, he looks just like you! You both have such fair hair.”
Takashi glances up as if to gauge Shuuichi’s reaction to this assessment, but at that moment, apparently, the lizard chooses to slink across the bridge of Shuuichi’s nose. Takashi dissolves into giggles, and Hinata clearly thinks he’s the cutest thing since Cinnamoroll. She refuses to let them leave until she’s bought Takashi some candy.
After that she seeks Shuuichi out in class to ask about his brother—and then somehow that evolves into heated discussions about a TV drama they both follow religiously—and within a month Shuuichi ends up with her cellphone number and a standing invitation to watch new episodes with her and her boyfriend every Sunday.
“My life has gotten a lot weirder with you in it, kid,” Shuuichi tells Takashi one day, only half-joking.
He’s sitting in the grass with his arms spread out in front of him while Takashi conducts an experiment with the lizard tattoo, asking yes or no questions for it to respond to—right arm being ‘yes’ and left arm being ‘no.’ So far nothing much has come of it, the lizard curled up in the hollow of Shuuichi’s throat instead, but it seems to like the attention. It keeps wagging its head or tail when Takashi talks to it. At one point it appears to roll over. This is a magical development as far as the kid is concerned.
“Good-weird?” Takashi asks hopefully.
Rolling his eyes, Shuuichi says, “Obviously. You don’t have a bad bone in your body, Takashi.”
Takashi beams, as delighted by that as he is by the stupid tattoo.
“You should give the lizard a name,” Takashi adds a beat later.
“Absolutely not.”
Then one day in late September, Shuuichi stops by Takashi’s school only to find out he never showed up that morning. Takashi’s homeroom teacher recognizes him and seems to have made the same assumption everyone else has made.
“Your parents called him in sick today,” she says, looking faintly worried. “I hope it’s nothing serious.”
Shuuichi doesn’t even remember to say goodbye. He just spins around and starts running. Sasago appears beside him, and he says, “Find him!”
For a shiki that doesn’t truly belong to him, she obeys swiftly. Takashi just has that effect on people.
Sasago has never had any trouble finding Shuuichi no matter where he goes. It’s not something he’s ever thought to test, it’s just something he counts on. He doesn’t know how he knows that she’ll be able to locate one little human in a city of about one million humans, but he knows she will.
And she does.
She returns to Shuuichi not even five minutes later and guides him to a nearby hospital.
He’s almost fifteen years old and entirely frantic, and if everyone is going to take one look at them and decide they’re family, then Shuuichi is going to make that work for him.
“My little brother is here,” he says, his words coming out in unsteady lurches as he gulps for air. He doesn’t even have to fake the plea in his tone. He really doesn’t have to act at all. “Natsume Takashi, where is he?”
Later on, he’ll scoff about the thin veneer of patient confidentiality, but he’s hardly going to complain about it now, as he’s almost immediately ushered down the hall. He outpaces the nurse when he sees Takashi’s name on a temporary door placard, and lets himself into the room without waiting for permission or approval.
Some adults are lingering in the corner, talking in low voices, and they barely glance at Shuuichi when he barges in. Whatever, Shuuichi doesn’t care about them either. His eyes fly straight to his shiki, where she hovers protectively over a tiny figure huddled in the chair next to the window.
Takashi has two black eyes and his arm is in a short cast. He doesn’t even lift his head when Shuuichi stumbles over to him.
“Oh my god, kid,” Shuuichi whispers. “Hey, look at me. Takashi?”
It takes a minute, but Takashi finally glances up at him through his fringe. Shuuichi sinks to his knees in front of the chair. It almost feels like the moment they first met, except it’s a different manner of monster that hurt him this time. And it’s not just cuts and bruises.
There are shadows in his face that have never been there before, ones that look as though they’ll cling to him permanently if no one does something about them. He seems so vacant and forgotten. None of the adults are even looking at him. It’s like no one sees him. He might as well be another ghost.
“There’s nowhere else to send him,” one of the strangers by the door is saying grimly. “We might have to look into an institution.”
“Actually,” Shuuichi blurts loudly, “he’s coming with me.”
It turns out they have a lot of opinions about that but he doesn’t care. He scoops Takashi up and sits down in the chair Takashi was sitting in and holds him in both arms. Just refuses to get up or let go. His heart is rattling in his chest the whole time, but this is important.
And Sasago is right beside them, where she always is. She’s ready to attack in whatever direction Shuuichi points her in. He won’t let it come to that, but it’s reassuring to have the option.
Eventually, when it’s clear he won’t be reasoned with, someone calls his father.
His father takes one look at Shuuichi and sighs. Shuuichi lifts his chin. His father calls the family attorney.
Afternoon passes into evening. All the adults are having a heated, complicated-sounding conversation behind a closed door. When it becomes clear no one will be home in time for dinner, a receptionist stops by with sandwiches and sports drinks for Shuuichi and Takashi. Her eyes look ancient with sadness when she takes in Takashi’s battered little face.
Takashi’s guardians finally show up when the supervising doctor and the Natori attorney start making noises about getting the police involved. By now, Takashi is asleep, but Shuuichi is still wide-awake. He glares at them with all the hate he keeps saved up in his heart for monsters. They don’t even glance at the boys on their way past.
“He’s a clumsy kid,” Shuuichi overhears the woman saying frantically, through the door she and her husband left cracked open behind them. “He fell down the stairs.”
Bullshit, Shuuichi thinks, and is surprised to hear his father say it at the same time.
“Apparently the child has made quite the impression on the staff here,” their attorney says amiably. You’d never guess how blood-thirsty he actually was from his tone. There’s a reason the Natori family keeps him on retainer. “We’ve got quite a few people willing to come forward if this situation goes to court. Maybe there’s a way we could settle this peacefully.”
By midnight, all the papers are in order. Bureaucracy moves quickly when you have enough money to throw at the right people. Takashi’s guardians sign him away like he’s a used car they don’t want anymore and arrange a time to drop off all of his possessions, and that’s it.
Shuuichi is no longer an only child.
It might not stand up if a long-lost relative comes along and presses for custody, but relatives like that seem to be in short supply in Takashi’s family.
“He’ll be your responsibility,” his father says on the ride home, as if he’s not talking to a teenager who shouldn’t even be responsible for himself, let alone a five-year-old.
Shuuichi nods anyway. Takashi is asleep against his side again, a heavy reminder. Shuuichi will do whatever he has to. He’ll be whatever he needs to be.
He promised Takashi he would keep the monsters away, and that’s what he’s going to do.

———— sunflower - vampire weekend ————
It was a normal school day. You sat through each of your classes bored out of your mind. If only something interesting would happen, maybe then you’d enjoy your day. Classes felt longer than usual and all you could think about was getting to the occult club and opening whatever Itadori found last night.
Classes had finally finished. You raced to the other end of the school and walked into the club room and greeted your two classmates.
“Where’s Itadori? Shouldn’t he be here with the thing he found yesterday?”
“We thought it would be cooler if we broke into the school late at night and opened it then!” Sasaki says with a bright sinister smile. Iguchi sat next to her and nodded his head in agreement.
Just then, Itadori walked into the room with a bright smile and greeted you three.
“(y/n)-senpai here’s the thing I found yesterday. Sasaki-senpai said to give it to you so you guys can open it tonight. I’m not gonna be able to make it.”
“No worries Itadori, we’ll make sure to take pictures when nothing shows up.” You say glancing at Sasaki.
You had always been skeptical when it came to ghosts and monsters. Iguchi and Sasaki were your best friends so they always ended up dragging you on their haunted adventures. Itadori was the newbie first year who recently joined. He was happy to take the pair on their ghostly escapades when you weren’t available.
Sasaki ruffled through her bag and pulled out the ouija board you four regularly played with. Itadori turned to you and asked if you were ready to call on the spirit of the day. After asking your fellow club members, he called upon them.
“Spirits! Spirits! Please reveal an animal that the school council president is weaker than!” Itadori said giggling slightly.
You watched as the small coin shaped object wiggled underneath your finger.
Ku

Ne
“A sea angel?!?” Itadori roared.
Your giggles were interrupted by the door suddenly sliding open revealing the sea angel himself.
“OCCULT RESEARCH CLUB!” The council president yelled, startling you.
“Your club did not submit an activities report! We don’t have room in this school for such irresponsibility!” He yelled, anger dousing his tone.
He explained that the club was going to be used as a changing room starting today and your club was to find somewhere else to play.
“I wouldn’t mess with our members council president.” Itadori said smirking at you and your friends. Sasaki slams a book onto the table and pushes her glasses up onto her nose.
“Here’s your proof council president! As you know, our rugby field has been closed off. The students who used it started getting sick and some were even hospitalized. Don’t you think that’s strange? I mean we’re talking about tough rugby players here. WELL. Just before the players began getting sick, they stated that they heard strange noises and voices on the field.”
You stand up and flip through the book that had rested under Sasaki’s hand.
“That’s where this newspaper article comes in.” You say showing the president an old newspaper clipping from many years ago.
“Mr. Yoshida, a construction man, went missing and he was last seen here at this school during construction.”
Sasaki interrupted, finishing the riveting story you four had discovered.
“Which means. Mr. Yoshida’s body is buried in the rugby field and the sickness was caused by the lingering spirit!” Sasaki said with stars in her eyes. Itadori and Iguchi stood on either side of you two giving jazz hands for dramatic effect. The council president looks at you four with a blank stare, dumbfounded at the ridiculous story.
“No...” He started.
“They were caused by ticks.”
You felt Sasaki wilt beside you while Itadori argued with the council president, explaining that either way this was club activity. The council president interjected and rudely pointed out the fact that neither you nor Itadori were registered with the occult club, leaving the club with too few members.
“Itadori, (y/n)... I thought you said you put your names down.” Sasaki said with an evil glare plastered on her face.
“Sorry Sasaki... I lost the paper ehehe...” You said, staring down at your feet with regret and a bit of fear hidden behind your eyes.
“I did put down the occult club senpai! I swear!” Itadori announced.
“Then who changed it?”
“I DID.” A voice barked, alarming all the students present.
“Coach Takagi?!” You all yelled in unison.
“Itadori, we need your speed and strength on the track and field team.”
“I ALREADY SAID I WASN’T JOINING!” Itadori wailed, hoping the coach would get the hint.
“No can do. However I’m a fair man so I will let you go if you beat me in a fair fight.”
“You’re on!”
You all ran down to the track to see Itadori battle it out with the coach.
“You think he’ll win?” You say skeptical of Itadori’s strength.
“I’ve heard he won the Ninja Warrior contest and he’s the incarnation of Mirko Cro Cop!” Iguchi explained.
“But he’s not dead...”
You watched as Itadori threw the heavy ball the same way a pitcher would. It whizzed through the air landing at about 30 meters from where he started, demolishing the Coach’s record of 14 meters.
“He’s like a gorilla.” Sasaki says behind you.
Itadori then walked up to the three of you and you congratulated him on his impressive upper arm strength.
“You know you don’t have to stay in this club Itadori.” Sasaki said.
“Thanks Senpai, but as much as you guys love haunted places, you wouldn’t go if (y/n) or I didn’t go with you.”
“Being scared is what makes it fun.” Sasaki says, laughing nervously.
Itadori checks his watch and realizes that it was time for him to leave. He speeds down the stairs and out the gates of the school, dust collecting behind him from how fast he was going. Out of the corner of your eye you spot a tall, handsome ravenette. You stare at him a little and hear him call out to Itadori trying to stop him. Do they know each other? Maybe he’s a first year too. “I’ve never seen him. He seems interesting, and cute.” You think to yourself. He notices your stare and sharply turns away giving off an egotistical aura. You break your gaze and scoff. “Interesting, cute...and cocky.”
————— turn back time - wayv —————
The room was dark, lit only by the light of a single candle resting on the table that Sasaki, Iguchi and you sat around. You handed Sasaki the wrapped object and she began fiddling with the stained paper. There were weird symbols on the paper, it kind of looked like a talisman.
“This is creepy, I’m gonna turn a light on.” Iguchi said timidly.
“No no we need to keep the ambience.”
Sasaki finally gripped on to a corner of the paper and began unraveling. The unraveled paper revealed a dark crimson finger.
“Is it real?” Sasaki asks.
“Probably not. Someone must have put it there as a joke.” You say, the skeptical side of you hiding the real fear you felt.
Suddenly the room shook and the candle went out. You were frozen with fear. In all the times you’d gone out to haunted places, you’ve never caught anything, but this time felt different. A faint screeching noise startled you three. Slowly you looked up and noticed a giant monster coming straight for you. You grabbed Sasaki’s hand, the finger stuffed into her pocket, and ran for dear life, Iguchi trailing closely behind. You hear the wall of the club room burst, and glancing behind you a huge creature was seen, hot on your trail. Iguchi turns a corner separating himself from you and Sasaki. You pull her behind a wall and sit with your hand pressed firmly against her mouth. You wait there for what feels like hours. Iguchi walks toward you ever so slowly.
“Iguchi! Thank goodness!” Sasaki says naively.
As he walks closer to you two, you notice the small monster that has latched onto his face. Your heart drops.
“H-el-p m-e..”
Iguchi’s voice rang through the hall alerting the creature that followed you and Sasaki. Almost instantly, the monster picked you, Sasaki, and Iguchi up. You felt the monster feel you all over, as if it was searching for something. Your mind starts going blank. Thoughts of your childhood, your family, the memories you made at school, flood your head. Thick, hot tears stream down your face. You faintly hear the voice of a person yelling. Your vision faded and soon you blacked out completely.
Megumi pov:
————— humble - kendrick lamar —————
Running down the halls I find one of the curses that Sukuna’s finger attracted.
“Out of my way! Divine dogs! You can eat it.”
The curses were getting closer together.
The finger was close.
I turn the corner and find Itadori’s friends. The curse is trying to eat them and the finger?!
Wait.
I recognize one of them. The one that was staring at me on the field.
“I’m not gonna make it!”
A loud crash echoes through the hallway. The window was smashed by someone.
Itadori?!
I watch in shock as he scoops up his friends. The one I’d seen before suddenly falls from his grasp. I run over and catch them in my arms. My heart beats faster.
What was this feeling?
I hold them close to my chest as my divine dogs run over and eat the curse.
“Normally I’d be pissed.. but good job.”
“Oh thanks, but what are those munching on the curse?” Itadori asks.
“Those? You can see them? They’re my shikigami. Normally you can’t see curses, unless you’re facing your death or in special places like this.”
Itadori stands and Sukuna’s finger drops from the girl’s pocket into his hand.
“This what your looking for?” Itadori asks.
I drop the feet of the unconscious person, still holding them upright. I reach my hand out to grab the cursed object. Itadori reaches out to take his senpai from my arms. A loud gurgling comes from the ceiling, startling me.
“RUN!”
I cling tightly to sleeping body and protect it from the curse as I try to call for Nue. The curse picks me up and throws us both against the wall, waking them up slightly. The curse gets ahold of us once again and blows the whole side of the school out, exposing us to the cold night air.
(y/n) pov:
You wake up with a pounding headache. You feel two arms around your waist and the cold night air blowing on your face. Were you flying? You look up and see a different monster heading your way.
“Hang on!” A voice calls behind you.
You turn slightly and see the same black haired boy from this morning. Why was he holding you? And why were you flying through the air? Where is Iguchi and Sasaki?
Slipping from the boy’s grip, you land on the hard concrete behind him. He glances over to you, checking to see if you survived the landing. You looked at him with big tear filled eyes. He struggled to put his hands together to form a bird shadow puppet. What is he doing?
“Damn I can’t focus.” He says, frustration written in his defined features.
Itadori flies through the air and whacks the monster on what looks like the head.
“Are you guys ok?!” He screams aiming his worry at you.
“I thought I told you to run.” The boy asks with a harsh tone.
“No can do, You were in trouble and you still had (y/n) in your arms.”
He jumps back onto the monster and starts beating it ruthlessly.
“Stop! You can’t defeat it without cursed energy!” The boy says.
Itadori doesn’t stop fighting it. The monster grabs him tightly and pushes him closer to his mouth.
“Itadori!!” You scream, heart beating out of your chest.
“Then all I need is cursed energy right Fushiguro?!”
He throws the crimson finger into the air and swallows it in one swift motion. Your jaw drops as the black haired boy, who Itadori referred to as Fushiguro, screamed at him. Fushiguro turns to you and, noticing your shock, runs over. He uses his entire body as a shield over you while his eyes are locked on Itadori’s changing body. Your eyes peek over his shoulder giving you a clear view of Itadori. Dark tattoo like marks form on Itadori’s tan skin. He looked like himself, but different. His nails grow long and sharp. He turns to the monster and swipes his hand upward, causing it to disintegrate. Itadori, or what looks like Itadori, turns back to you and Fushiguro with burning scarlet eyes.
————— look at me! - xxxtentacion —————
“Finally! A cursed spirit’s flesh is no fun! What a wonderful age it has become, women and children crawling around like maggots! It’ll be a massacre!”
His voice is deep and there is no trace of Itadori in his tone. Your breathing is heavy against Fushiguro’s neck. His arms are wrapped protectively around you as you’re both crouched down on the floor. The strange man’s eyes lock onto you.
“You don’t look like a sorcerer, maybe i’ll kill you first!” He says laughing maniacally.
Fushiguro’s grip tightens out of anger, squeezing so tight it hurts. A familiar voice exited the tattooed man’s body.
“Hey, what do you think you’re doing with my body? Give it back.”
The soft, sweet voice of your kohai calms your nerves ever so slightly.
He’s still there.
Fushiguro lets go of you and stands in front of Itadori.
“Don’t move! You’re no longer human. Under jujutsu regulations, I will exorcise you as a curse, Itadori Yuuji!”

SANDERS SIDES KARAOKE: GOTHIC LITERATURE MUSICALS EDITION
Okay, so after four years of being in the Sanders Sides fandom, I’m going to attempt to write some headcanons. Here we go.
Since it’s well-known in fanon that the sides do have karaoke sessions, imagine what would happen if they sang musicals based on gothic literature.
Roman’s happy because broadway, duh, Logan is happy because it’s canon that he enjoys gothic literature since he dressed up as Frankenstein’s monster for Halloween, same reason for Virgil and Patton’s happy that his family is bonding. He made extra cookies for the occasion. He’s dangerous like that.
(I headcanon that when Thomas had to write analyses of gothic literature novels for school, Virgil, Roman and Logan would work together to come up with stuff and write the best essays in class and Patton would be so proud of them)
I’m not going to count Les Mis because I’m not too sure if that counts as gothic literature and whilst the Hunchback of Notre Dame is indeed gothic (trust me I read that in a plane once. An entire, like, ten pages is dedicated to describing the scenery) I don’t think it became a broadway show.
Now this isn’t like their usual karaoke nights, no sir. Just idly remaining in the living room won’t do. Where is the gusto? The pizazz? The accolade winning extravaganza? The-
“We get it Princey, can you just get on with it?” - Virgil
No, this type of singing can only be accompanied with an atmosphere that will do it justice. To the imagination they go and with Logan’s (who has practically memorised every single one of these books and is not geeking out at all) input on how the novels describe each setting, Roman creates very intricate landscapes for each song.
When they sing ‘Alive’ from ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ Roman thought that it would be really cool for Patton to play Mr Edward Hyde since Hyde is literally the human id and Patton, being the embodiment of morality, is literally the superego (although to be fair, Patton is also shown to be quite childish and impulsive since he’s also the base of Thomas’ emotions and Hyde is impulsive because he’s a way for Jekyll to act on his own emotions - especially since the only crime that Hyde does in the book are him over-reacting with his anger by beating a man to death. And in the novella, Jekyll writes that he and Hyde are like father and son and that Hyde is actually younger than Jekyll is, he does have that sense of childishness that Patton has only instead of that childishness being good and helpful, it’s bad and hurtful. Plus in the soundtrack of Alive, whilst Anthony Warlow does sing about how good being evil feels like, he also sounds like he is crying tears of joy of being able to be himself, the first words post-transformation being freedom and anyways these are supposed to be fun headcanons not analytical headcanons so I digress…)
Anyways Patton is happy to play the villain because “look kiddos, Roman conjured up this really swell cape” “the correct term is cloak” “and check out this top hat and cane!” and he’s just belting out the words and froliking around Victorian London without a care in the world, making his cape swoosh in the wind.
“Patton I would advise you not to take your shoes off. This is nineteenth-century London with people dying of cholera by the dozens, your feet could catch a myriad of infections.”
“Worry not, specs, the scenery is merely an illusion. I would never allow for our dear padre to succumb to the villain of illness”
“Aww, thanks kiddo (cue Patton’s sunshine smile) now where was I? IT’S THE FEELING OF BEING ALIVE! FILLED WITH EVIL AND TRULY ALIVE!”
They have Logan sing ‘I Need To Know’ because a doctor of science singing about wanting to expand his knowledge and having that thirst to do whatever it takes to get said knowledge. That is a Logan Sanders song right there. At first he’s like “why do I have to sing. I was happy enough giving directions and helping you with the scenery” but Roman creates this big scientific library that could rival the one from Beauty and the Beast/ laboratory from that’s practically the identical to Jekyll’s lab in the book and he’s like “Fine” like he isn’t enjoying himself. He is. They all know it. He’s not fooling anyone
Patton and Roman sing ‘Bring on the men’ together (yes, whilst wearing dresses) whilst Virgil and Logan drink apple juice from those big british beer glasses in the mind-scape created Red Rat (which Logan is quick to point out doesn’t exist and is vocally upset at how the musical adaptation added unnecessary romantic subplots with Lisa and Lucy when the book itself only had three background female characters who were only there for like one paragraph. He’s even more upset at the other inaccuracies with the book like how in the play Jekyll creates his formula as a cure for mental illness and Hyde was accidental whilst in the book he did it because he wanted to indulge in sin without fearing the consequences and Hyde, whilst not being exactly what he wanted, was actually created on purpose or how in the book Hyde only kills one man and in the musical he kills practically everyone except for the one person he did kill. Virgil pats him on the back with sympathy). Roman and Virgil are sniggering at the sexual euphemisms at the end of the song whilst Patton’s confused. She just seems really enthusiastic about food.
Roman sings both parts of ‘Confrontation’ by himself. He gets a standing ovation.
He also does ‘Transformation’. The problem is that he was so good at sounding like he was in complete agony and near death that they had to stop the song prematurely because Patton was getting upset. Don’t worry, Pat gets lots of cuddles by Roman afterwords.
(You know what I might do some sides reacting to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde later because 1. It’s my favourite book and 2. All four of them would have very interesting takes on it)
From the Frankenstein musical Virgil plays the criminal from ‘Say Amen’ because he wants to (seriously, the guy’s first words in the song are ‘I curse the day that I was born into a world so black with hate’) and Logan plays Victor Frankenstein but Patton refuses for his son to even pretend to be executed by the noose so they have Roman play a man wearing a british executioner outfit with a foam sword and the creative side just bonks the anxious side on the neck with it. Logan despairs about the historical inaccuracy from his place in the stands whilst Patton is cheering next to him. Patton also hands him an extra jumper to keep him warm in the Switzerland cold.
“Patton, I am grateful that you are thinking of my health but no one in eighteenth century Switzerland wore bright blue jumpers with cartoon kittens on them”
“Really, Logan, are you paw-sitive?”
“I would like to change places with Virgil. Immediately”
Roman and Logan turn ‘Birth to my creation’ into a duet because Logan enjoys the scientific aspect of it and Roman can’t resist the drama (of course). He goes all out. He makes Victor’s lab perfect to the smallest detail (and cheers when Logan’s eyes start lighting up and he does that cute clappy thing when he’s excited), he conjures a storm and makes lightning strike at the best moments of the song. He even creates a ‘wretch’ (what Victor calls the monster in the book. I’ve heard that it’s name is Adam but all I remember from the novel is Victor calling himself god and the creature his Adam) to lie on the table.
“And we didn’t even have to go grave-robbing for it. Or drop out of University.” - Roman
“No matter how many times I wanted to.” - Virgil
Roman and Virgil do most of the songs from Dracula. The creative side creates this huge, expensive-looking window-balcony thing with glass double doors and billowing silk curtains so that he could dramatically sing ‘the longer I live’ whilst the wind blows through his hair and he dramatically drapes himself on the balustrade so that the light from the full moon hits his figure just right. Patton’s close to crying.
Logan is very eager to give as many facts as he can about nineteenth-century mental institutions for ‘The Master’s Song’. He gets really into the history behind certain treatments and different cases. Roman plays Renfield and the others play doctors.
Virgil is super into Dracula’s castle during ‘Life after life’. He and Roman duet that song wearing all-black. Logan tries to help Patton’s slight fear by telling him the history behind different pieces of architecture.
Patton plays Christine during Phantom of the Opera
Roman, Virgil and Logan sing ‘A story told’ from The Count of Monte Cristo around a circular table in a dimly lit tavern. Patton takes pictures and drinks hot chocolate in the sidelines.

Peter sits down on the couch and wraps his arms around himself. “I don’t know what you want me to say.”
“I want an explanation,” Tony says not unkindly. He follows Peter into the living room with his arms crossed. “You’re failing more than half of your classes. I can’t just ignore that.”
“Why not?” Peter challenges, crossing his arms. “It’s fine.”
“It’s not fucking fine, Peter!” Tony snaps. Tony looks harried, more than Peter’s ever seen him. Tony’s not one to get angry, especially at Peter, but these circumstances are different. “You’re a year away from graduating. Failing all your classes could me being turned away from any college-”
“Why do you care?” Peter exclaims. “You’re not my dad!” Peter ignores the visible hurt on Tony’s face at that.
“I know that, kid,” Tony says painfully. “But I am your guardian and that means I am responsible for you.” Tony sighs and sits on the coffee table, leaning towards Peter. “I know you’re having a hard time, kid. But it’s my job to take care of you and that includes making sure you’re doing okay in school.”
“My last living relative died four months ago. I’m sorry my grades are slipping,” Peter says sarcastically.
“What can I do to help you?” Tony asks. Peter rolls his eyes and says nothing. “Do you need me to find you a tutor?”
“No.” Peter says immediately, looking up to meet Tony’s eyes.
Tony softens a little, “It’s okay if you need help, kid.”
“I don’t need help.”
“Then what do you need?” Tony asks. Peter shrugs. Tony sighs in exasperation and runs a hand through his hair, “Okay, I really don’t want to do this, Peter, but until you get your grades up, you can’t go on patrol.”
Peter’s eyes widen. “That’s not fair-”
“You’re not giving me any other options, kiddo.” Tony tells him. “FRIDAY, don’t let Peter out through the windows. Let me know if he puts on his suit.”
“Affirmative, boss,” FRIDAY responds.
Tony looks back at Peter whose jaw is set in anger. “Kid-”
“Leave me alone.” Peter stands and briskly walks out of the room. Tony can hear Peter’s bedroom door slam. Tony shoots a glance at the alcohol cabinet. But he turns away and walks down to the workshop.
...
It’s so easy to hack into FRIDAY. It’s even easier to override Tony’s commands, don the spider-suit, and crawl out the window.
At first Peter just wants to blow off some steam, fight a few run of the mill bad guys until his anger at Tony feels dissipated. Then he would climb back through his window, change the code back and Tony would be none the wiser.
He’s been on patrol for about twenty minutes when three glowing alien ships descend from the sky, hulking metal robots leaping off the sides and into the streets. With a soft curse under his breath, Peter swings towards them. He manages to take down one of the robots, but as he is about to start on the next one, it’s long metal claws rake across Peter’s chest. He screams out in pain, blood weeping from the wounds.
Peter desperately shoots a web in some random direction and starts swinging. He can’t see where he’s going, all he feels is the pain tearing through him with every strained movement. Peter doesn’t know how long he swings like that, but suddenly his web snaps.
Peter cries out as he falls quickly to the ground, hitting the side of at least two buildings as he does.
His back slams into the ground hard. All of the air escapes his lungs, leaving him gasping for breath as he tries to sit up. He’s in bad shape. Peter’s whole body feels like one big bruise and he can already see that his suit is torn almost to shreds. Blood stains what remains of his suit.
“Shit,” Peter says weakly. He lets his head fall back against the cold concrete. Tony’s going to be pissed. He destroyed the suit. “Karen?” Peter asks. There’s no response. Peter swears again, the damage to the suit must have broken his AI. In the distance he can hear the metal clanking of his assailant moving towards him.
He has to move.
Peter squeezes his eyes shut in preparation for the pain. With a groan, he lifts himself up onto his elbows and slowly manages to push his way to the feet, leaning heavily on the building beside him. Peter presses his lips together to avoid crying out as he stumbles down the alley and to the street. As expected with some sort of metal monster roaming the city, the streets are empty and very few lights are on in the buildings surrounding him. In the distance he can hear sirens and clanking metal footsteps.
Peter casts a glance up and down the street and feels a sinking sense of dread when he realizes he doesn’t have any clue where he is. He must have gone farther than he thought in his desperation to get away from the robots. He can’t even see Stark Tower from this vantage point. Though, Peter realizes with a grimace, he probably could from the top of one of these buildings.
Grunting in pain, Peter sticks his hands and feet onto the brick building to his left and slowly begins to climb.
Tony’s going to kill him, he thinks. Tony doesn’t even know he’s left the tower. And now he broke his AI, turned the suit practically to shreds, and is lost in the middle of the city. Peter feels tears begin to well in his eyes, not only from pain but from shame and the inevitable disappointment from Tony. Maybe it’ll be enough for Tony to send Peter away. That thought alone makes him start to cry, hot tears soaking into his mask.
The past four months have been difficult to say the least. After moving in with Tony, Peter has been trying to figure out his new place in the world and in his mentor’s life. Peter can’t help but feel that his place with Tony is temporary. May was his last living relative, Tony has no obligation to keep him, especially after how much of a brat he was.
Peter thinks of his first week living with Tony.
Peter awoke in the middle of the night and started sobbing, wanting more than anything for May to come into his bedroom and scoop him into a hug, pressing her face to his hair and holding him tight.
When Peter’s door did open, for a moment he thought it was his Uncle Ben standing on the other side. But when the light clicked on he saw Tony. “I’m sorry,” Peter said immediately, wiping his cheeks with his sleeves. “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
“It’s okay, kid. Can I come in?” Peter nodded and Tony crossed the room quickly to sit on the side of his bed. It took no effort for Peter to lean forward against Tony’s chest and the older man immediately pulled him into a tight embrace. “I’ve got you, piccolo.”
Peter sobbed against Tony’s shoulder while Tony gently rocked him side to side.
It takes Peter a painful five minutes to scale the building. By the time he reaches the top of it, he’s incredibly light headed and his breathing is far shallower than it should be and his mask is nearly soaked through with tears. He lays flat on his back for a few moments, struggling to stay awake with all of the bloodloss.
“Karen?” He tries again, tears forming in his eyes. Again, there’s no response.
And then Peter starts to cry in earnest. He cries because he’s scared and he’s alone and he wants someone to find him. Even if Tony is mad at him or kicks him out of the tower, he just wants someone to find him. He wants to not be alone anymore.
Then a bright white light hits him. At first Peter thinks he’s dead, that this light is the gates of heaven opening up to him. But then he blinks and there’s something back lit by the light, a very familiar shape.
“Tony…” He breathes softly, so quiet he almost can’t hear it.
He hears muffled shouting, people calling his name, the whir of an engine, but Peter’s eyes remain on the silhouette of Iron Man. Until his breathing slows and his eyes close of their own accord just as the masked form only feet from him.
...
Peter wakes up slowly. He feels floaty and soft in a way that makes him think that he’s asleep. But he knows he’s not because he’s far too aware of his surroundings to be soundly asleep. There’s something in his hand and Peter immediately squeezes it to try to figure out what it is. It’s warm and kind of soft, but Peter can’t quite place it. Then he hears a voice. The voice is so muffled that he can’t make out what is being said, but the sound alone makes Peter relax even further. That voice means he’s safe.
He doesn’t know how long it takes him to open his eyes, they’re just suddenly open without him having made the choice. The light Peter wakes up to isn’t what he was expecting, it’s not the harsh, white light of a hospital, it’s soft light. It’s dark, just how he likes it. And there’s someone sitting next to him.
Peter tips his head to the side to see Tony sitting in a chair next to his bed. Tony looks like hell, his face is unshaven and his hair is an unkempt mess. On the table beside him, Peter can see a plethora of coffee cups and granola bar wrappers.
When Peter looks at Tony, the man’s face softens and Tony squeezes Peter’s hand. “Hey, kiddo.”
“Tony…” Peter breathes. “Where am I?”
“You’re in the medbay,” Tony tells him. Peter tries to sit up, but winces in pain as the movement disturbs the hefty amount of bandages that cover his torso.
“Hold on, Pete.” Tony stands up and very carefully helps Peter sit up, fluffing the pillow behind him as he does. “How do you feel?”
Peter means to answer the question, to tell Tony he’s fine, but what comes out is a teary, “I’m sorry.” He can’t meet Tony’s eyes as he continues. “I-I went on patrol when you said I shouldn’t and I got hurt and I-I destroyed the suit you made me and I yelled at you-”
Before Peter can continue, Tony puts a hand on Peter’s leg, “Breathe, kid.”
“Please don’t make me leave,” Peter asks with tears building in his eyes. “I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
“Why would I make you leave?” Tony asks. Peter shrugs, unable to say anything. “Look at me, Peter.” Peter slowly lifts his eyes to meet his mentor. What he sees on his mentor’s face isn’t disappointment or annoyance like Peter feared. It’s just love and deep, deep worry. “Kid, you’re the most important person in the word to me.”
“But I-I hacked into FRIDAY and I left without telling you.”
“And we’ll talk about that later,” Tony squeezes his forearm. “But right now all you need to think about is getting better. You made a lot of mistakes, Peter, but no matter how many times you fuck you you won’t stop being my kid. My love for you is unconditional, okay?”
Peter gulps and lifts a hand to wipe his eyes. “Come here.” Tony gingerly sits on the edge of the bed and pulls the teenager into a hug, mindful of his many wounds. “It’s going to be okay, kid.”
“You promise?” Peter asks, his voice small as he’s pressed against Tony’s shoulder.
Tony pulls back a little bit and holds out his pinky to Peter. Peter laughs wetly, but wraps his pinky around Tony’s and shakes it up and down. Tony then tugs him back into the hug, pressing a kiss to the side of his head.

💗Fairy!Deku x wingless!Reader x Fairy!Prince!Shouto pt.2
Part 1.
Being Prince Shouto's personal maid was difficult, but Izuku helped me forget my hardships when I'm with haven't But lucky today was one of my rare vacation days. I haven't had one of those in a long time, so I decided to visit and pay respects at Queen Rei's grave. Before Endeavor married his way into the throne, it was Queen Rei who ruled the kingdom. She was a sweet, kind, and gentle Queen. I used to be her maid when I was younger. Sadly she passed away of an Illness, so her burial ground was placed a bits travel out of the kingdom, underneath a beautiful tree.
Sadly by the time I managed to arrive on foot, it was already sunset, so I had to make this quick. As I got closer I could see Large pillars of ice, tons of burn streaks on the ground, and Lots of Umbra holes.
'What in the world happened here?' I wondered as I got closer to the gravesite.
I sat in front of the grave and gave a respectful bow. Sadly No one came to this grave anymore when the Umbra started to appear here suddenly, I was surprised that this place wasn't destroyed.
"What are you doing here?" Asked a familiar cold voice.
"Y-your highness!" I squeaked in surprise. Turning to see the one and only prince Shouto.
"I was here to pay my respects," I said simply.
"Do you really think I'd believe that? Many people just come here to pretend they care. Just to get close to me, even Corte did this," He sneered.
"So I would appreciate it if you stop soiling my mother's grave and leave,"
I had enough of his high horse.
"Get over yourself. I once served the queen, and I came here to pay my respects. Because she is everything you and Endeavor fail miserably at," I snapped.
"How Dare You!" Shouto sneered. "You know nothing about my family,"
"Your right, I don't know everything. But I am aware of how awful Endeavor is. The queen would vent to me about how awful he was because she didn't really have anyone else to talk to. But just because your life situation sucked, doesn't justify how you act and treat others," I vented, but The prince just kind of glared at me.
"If it did, then I would have every reason to be a hateful person,"
"And why would that be?" He dared ask with an apathetic look on his face.
"Maybe if you stopped and actually looked around you maybe you'd learn things or notice things. Anyways what are you doing out here it's almost dark?" I asked him.
"I could ask you the same, but I come here to keep my mothers grave safely from the Umbra," he said as he leaned against one of the ice pillars.
So that's why he always flies off near night, he comes here to keep his mothers safe. The poor guy, he must miss her greatly. I quickly dug through my bag and pulled out my crystallized flutter flower. Infusing it with my magic it started to glow brilliantly, lighting up the whole gravesite.
"What is that?'' the prince asked as he covered his eyes.
"This will keep your mother's grave safe," I answered as I placed the light over her tombstone.
"Not even My father's hottest flames can take down an Umbra. How is a ball of light going to protect anyone," He asked.
"It's kept me alive for this long," I said as I started taking my leave.
"Oh, by the way. For a person who shouts they are going to be nothing like their father, you're doing a pathetic job at that," I added.
--------------
Shouto watched her leave and travel back to the Kingdom darkness slowly consuming the land. Soon it was dark, but the light kept the area around the grave brightly lit. He readied me and waited for any surprise attack.
Suddenly The ground shook and a Large Umbra shoots out of the ground. Sporting there drills like teeth. Shouto readied his fire magic only for the monster to screech in pain as it entered the light radius. It quickly submerged back into the ground, just as fast as it came.
As the night went on the Umbras never came close to the light, they remained just outside the edge of the light. It was an interesting night. __________________
"Why did Bakugou beat you up again?" Y/n asked her friend as she cleans her friend's wings.
"I Don't know, he was just really competitive today I guess," Izuku Sighed as he let his friend tend his cuts and scrapes.
"I thought I would have to only worry about you hurting yourself. Now I have to worry about Bakugou possibly killing one day," Y/n sighs as she puts bandaids on Izuku's scratches.
"But Have a good a good day," Y/n said as they left the medical wing.
"Good luck with the Prince," Izuku said as he gave her a quick hug.
With a sigh, Y/n made her way to the prince's chambers. Prince Shouto was already awake and was writing something.
"Good morning Y/n," he said simply turning to face her.
"O-oh good morning your highness," Y/n greeted in surprise. "It's good to see you unharmed,"
"The light you created Protected me Like you said," He said with a tiny smile, as he turned back to his work.
Y/n was surprised by the Prince's sudden change, it wasn't too drastic. He still wasn't much of a talker. He only fell back into old habits for a while, after a bad talk with his father. Other than that Shouto was just more pleasant to be around, he would slow down for her at times and sometimes help her get up places.
As Y/n started to blow out the prince's candles for the night, the prince stopped her for a minute. The prince laid in his bed but was staring out the window and at the dark forest beyond.
"I can see your glowing crystal from here, though it looks like a tiny star this far away," he said though he didn't turn to look at you.
Y/n could feel some sort of sorrow behind his words, so she happily excepted his apology.
"How long will the magic last?" Shouto asked.
"What Magic?" Y/n asked slightly confused.
"The crystal light you made, magic like that will fade eventually. So how long till it loses its glow?" Shouto asked turning to you.
" For as long as I'm healthy and alive," Y/n said softly.
"Y/n... I'm sorry for how I behaved during the time you served me," He apologized as he sat upon his bed, shame somewhat seen on his stoic face.
"It's alright Your highness-,"
"It's Prince Shouto from now on.. I've requested that you become my permanent Maid. Starting tomorrow," He interrupted.
With a quiet laugh, Y/n slowly helped the prince back into bed and blew out the candles.
"Could you make me one of your crystal lights?" He asked sleepily.
With a smile, Y/n focused as she formed a small crystal ball between her hands, the size of an Apple. It started to glow radiantly as she handed it over to Prince Shouto.
"Goodnight, prince Shouto," Y/n whispered.

It was another simple day as Y/n traveled along with the large vines the ran the walls of the castle. It was large and thick enough for her to walk on. She was taking the trays and plates to the kitchen to be washed when suddenly she pushed off and crashed on the floor a couple of feet down. A loud thud and crash echoed throughout the room. Y/n slowly pushed through her pain as she sat up and started to collect the plates. The giggles of the Fairies could be heard behind her.
"You know I'm surprised that you even survived this long. In the castle and out in the wild, most defects like you would have died by now," One of them laughed.
"Like that weird Toga girl with only one wing. She was so creepy how she stalked the captain guard Midoriya. She didn't see that Umbra coming," Another added.
"Yet somehow you lasted this long, must be a miserable existence. No magic or beautiful wings to make you stand out, and yet here you are worming your way up the ranks," said a beautiful Fairy noble.
"Lady Maria, I'm sorry. I didn't see you there," Y/n apologized to the higher-ranked fairy.
You see when Endeavor took full control he made a class system, where fairies with powerful magic are someone higher and more important than those who don't. Someone like Y/n would be at the bottom, not just for having no wings. Y/n never freely showed off her special magic, so most claim that she is powerless, the main reason Y/n is such a low rank. Even if she did, most would see it as a pretty useless power. Pretty but useless.
"You better, any higher you would have been a goner. Maybe you should use your wings to save you. Oh, wait," Maria laughed.
"Lately you've been overstepping your boundaries. I've noticed that something has changed in the prince lately. He's been softer to you lately and made you his personal maid. Also, you seem close to the king's personal guard Midoriya. Trying to boost your statues are we?" Maria asked with a sick sweetness in her voice.
Maria grabbed Y/n by her jaw and forced her to look up into Maria's cold eyes.
"Listen closely, fairies like The Prince, Midoriya, and I are higher ranked and are important for a reason. Endeavor had the right idea for only for the strong to marry others who are strong. So they can make more strong fairies to protect the kingdom, but if fairies like you start getting in the way. You, Will, weaken the kingdom, so you need to stay with people of your rank. We protect the kingdom and your kind can show your gratitude by serving us," Maria said with a smile.
"So know your place," she sneered.
