Sanji x Badass Jealous Reader (She/her)
I use the word "bitch" gender neutrally, Pudding just happens to be a woman. Anyone can be a bitch in my book lol.
Decided to keep my lil scene name notes in.
--- Scene 1 Captain Y/n's rage---
A soft light escaped from an airship hovering in the night sky and caressed the deep dark waves below.
"Captain, are you sure this is a good idea? I know the Straw Hat Pirates are friends, but this is really risky." Vera, Y/n's first mate, questioned tracing a finger along the map.
"Vera, I appreciate it. I know and understand how risky this is, but frankly, I don't care." Y/n stated unsheathing her dagger.
Vera swallowed as a bead of sweat trailed down the side of her face at the cold gleam of the dagger under moonlight.
"Sanji and I have had something between us for a long time. We aren't official, at least not publicly, but that's my man and I'm not about to let some sugary bitch think she can take what's mine!" Y/n yelled as she aggressively impaled the drawing of Whole Cake.
--- Scene 2 Preparing for the wedding---
Sanji let out a long deep sigh as he got to the last button.
To say he was disappointed would be an understatement. The wedding would begin soon and he'd have to put on happy face, regardless much he didn't want to.
Pudding wasn't who he thought she was, and she definitely wasn't Y/n.
Oh shit, Y/n! If this plan fails he'd never see her again.
They'd agreed to make their relationship public the next time their crews crossed paths, which should've been Wano, but now he wasn't so sure that'd ever happen.
"Damn it, this has to work." He whispered gripping the sides of the vanity and glaring at his reflection.
---Scene 3 Wedding Crash! Grab that Man!---
Beautiful, everything was perfect, at least it appeared that way to anyone who didn't know what was soon to come.
He was just going through the motions with a lie of a smile plastered on his face.
The moment to pull the vail back had arrived. His hands hesitated. Could he do it? It didn't matter, he couldn't turn back now, no matter how much he wanted to.
Sanji's hands reached for the vail.
A gunshot echoed throughout the area.
The priest let out a groan and dropped to floor.
A coin fell and bounced along the candy brick: everyone heard it.
"I object." A familiar feminine voice stated from her seat on top the wall.
Her crew's sniper blew the smoke from his gun with a smirk.
"Y/n." Sanji whispered in recognition.
---Scene 4 Reunited and Terribly in Love---
The fight was intense and Y/n's crew added to the chaos.
Thankfully, the sheer amount of Luffy was distracting enough for Y/n to grab Sanji and run.
Sanji had hoped to see her again, but in her arms with scowl on her face as she ran at a full sprint wasn't quite how he'd pictured it. He knew jealousy was rare for her, but damn did she look good in it.
Eventually Y/n found an empty building far enough and stopped there.
He was unfortunately back on his feet, but luckily Sanji was pulled back in her arms, and into a kiss that quickly became many. Soon those kisses trailed away from his lips to his neck.
"What you think you're doing getting yourself into all this trouble? Do you have any idea how upset and worried I was when I learned your bastard of a father was selling you off for a political marriage?" She questioned between kisses, a hand sliding up an down his back comfortingly.
"I'm sorry to have worried you. How did you know what was happening?" He held her closer and whispered.
"I have a few spies here. They keep me updated on Big Mom's plans." Y/n said ceasing her affectionate attacks along his neck and collarbone.
"I missed you, Y/n." Sanji said tearing up.
"Shh It's ok. You're going to be ok. I'm right here" She cooed stroking his cheek with her thumb.
---
Sorry Pudding, I took your moment away from you :/
Also Katakuri was like, I'm going to just file my nails a sec while you shoot the priest, cuz like he's not family so it ain't my problem.

i couldn’t find my other katakuri scenario and that’s bothering me but ANYWAYS
have an unfinished and HEAVILY unedited katakuri brain rot 😩
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/76230c0d73a819225687694d2f89fedb/b2248bde96771a3d-11/s500x750/c89231f20904fc73af54b8d2d0d361ad16db3917.jpg)
IMAGINE YOU BEING KATAKURIS LITTLE SPOUSE CKSKSLFOSW ofc it was a political marriage, you think big mom’s gonna give away her ‘ prized possession ‘ for some mumbo jumbo love ? HELL NO
and he knew that that ending up like his sister lola was less than ideal. but don’t worry, he got around to liking you... after a year or two that is.
he’s a busy man with iron walls, what do you expect ?
it was around 6 months into the marriage when he started to shave some ice off when he saw how much you cared about his younger siblings as you played with them, of course getting stabbed by anana
but the good thing is that while you were getting patched up you talked about how you loved his family. which he couldn’t have loved more.
though the height difference is an absolute pain in the ass
( reader is maybe around 6’5 - 7’5 so he’s not totally dwarfing then )
and i’d say it wasn’t until recently that he let you in on the secret cause he didn’t want to scare you away of courses.
was taken aback when you said it was metal as fuck and loved the shit out of it
but fast forwarding to puddings wedding, you accompanied him on his latest mission and were arriving back with him you, of course on his shoulder
with you being his darling spouse had a sweet parcel that was keeping you dry from the rain. the
you said it made him look 10x cooler which he begrudgingly agreed to cause in reality- who could say no to you?
he’ll be an extremely protective husband. only if he warms up to you.
but he says that he will not let you go on missions with him cause for forbide you get hurt.
but after hearing it was just a supply run unrelated to the wedding, you hunted him down which wasn’t too hard with the constant squealing you’d hear once he’s passed.
though he made sure you went to your shared room right after so he could take care of some other matters.
so you did as you usually would, helped around the palace, get nasty stares from enviers, catch up with a few of his siblings, catch hot palace gossip
mobile was ugly, chiboust was weird, marble scared you, the long neck twins were just... ewh but other than that myuku was like, your only friend
and of course go with pudding, though she was a decade younger, it wasn’t bad since she was quite a nice girl. honest, sweet, charming. you think.
the age gap was unfortunate but you both didn’t mind ( after some reassurance on both beds that is )
ah i see shes getting married- WAIT A MINUTE
off you were storming through the castle looking for you husband. why you didn’t need of this? you don’t know.
he just said that you both needed to be there for an important tea party. that’s his problem, he’s trying to keep to himself again and you’re not going to let all your hard work go to waste.
“ and my spouse will be walking through the gates mad “
on que you bursts through the gates with guards begging you to stay inside as there was a.. situation going on out there
yeah mm-kay, i’ll be the judge of that.
totally ignoring the battlefield - well the remains of what was one, you quickly caught sight of your husband up on the ledge as bege looked almost pale.
with that katakrui made his retreat as you said a quick goodbye as you had to catch up to him and nag him some more.
“ wait y/n i have something to ask you “
huffing, you fidgeted around as you quickly looked to him “better hurry bege cause i’m in the naggy mood at the moment and you don’t wanna be on the revcing end of it “
a small grumble left his lips as he asked you an unimportant question which you answered ( obviously ) with a half assed answer and ran of to meet your husband.
well, you were supposed to anyways.
but this wasnt apart of the plan.
who knows how long it’s been, but you’ve been stuck on bege’s ship for a good while as the rero man keep trying to provoke you. great.
a peacful stroll to your hubby turned into a fucking kidnapping as you were gagged, drugged and all the sunshine and rainbows bit.
“ hey bege “
“ what “
“ uh what’s up with the kidnapping huh? thought you were married “
“ .. can i kill them ? “
“ no ! “
“ so whyd you kidnap me anyways? “
he scuffed as he gave you a once over. rude “ you said the thing katakuri loved the most is you “
..what.
almost like a brick the memory hit you right in the head as you remeber what he asked you at the gate.
“ righttt.. what if i told you that
adobe would you propped yourself on his... broad shouldered.. wow. anyways as you looked around
“ GAH THEYRE AWAKE ! “
“ of course i’m awake with the kind of rude you gus provided. geez i can feel my back getting adjusted. thanks “
they were funny to say the least. brûlée yelling at you to help her as you cracked jokes with the two? minks?? whatever.
though when you heard about their plan to ruin the wedding, you had to go to your husband t o warn him.
though you didn’t get far once brûlée freed you with her claws
( you refused to call them nails )
you were caught by the hot mink man
well shit. this is gonna be harder than you thought.
you like to think that katakuri would drop anything to save you, hell even fantasized about him absolutely obliterating who ever touched you or looked at you wrong.
and you would’ve correct. he went ballistic when that reindeer ?? had you on his back, tied like a turkey as

Hi I love your work sooooo much! Can I have a scenario where Katakuri trying to ask out his shy crush but something always happens but he gets his happy end
Hey sweetie, sorry it took so long but I had to start all over twice because I didn’t like what I came up with. Hopefully this version is to your liking^^! And I legit have so many Katakuri scenariorequests in my inbox, I don’t know where all that thirst is comingfrom lol xD
Katakuri scenario- Double D- Wanna Donut Date? (aka what even are titles Idk sorry xD)
…It wasn’t unusual for CharlotteKatakuri to mess up when it came to social interactions. Many of theolder children liked to link his inability to communicate with peopleoutside of the family to the fact that even at a young age he never even tried making friends, and while most of the Charlottes bloomedsocially he continued to stay introverted and only surrounded himselfwith family, and… well, donuts.
And most of the time that wasn’texactly a hindrance to the tall man. After all, he never needed‘friends’- especially those that only wanted to spend time with himwhen he was hiding his face and played along with the perfect pictureeveryone had of him. No, he didn’t need anyone else. Ever. So, whywas he here now? Inside of a clumsily build mochi house within his dinner room, with soaked, mushy donuts lying on the floor and tea spilled all over his pants? Eventhough he was all by himself and with no chance of anyone intruding on him,his scarf was pulled up as high as possible, almost reaching hiseyes, and completely covered his mouth, nose, and rosey cheeks. Hishand, which was previously spilling holding his cup of tea, now madeits way up to his temples, promptly massaging them as a low groanescaped from his throat. Today was not his day. Infact, this couldvery well make the list of the worst days he’s ever had (and itwasn’t even noon yet!)…
Everything started out so simple. Sousual. He got up, got dressed, got hungry and left his mansion to buysome breakfast donuts from the bakery around the corner. Today was aspecial day however, since they offered Red Velvet Donuts with aspecial sugar glaze, and the mere thought of them already made Katakuri’s mouth water. He wasn’t the only one looking forward tothem of course, and even though he always got up pretty early by thetime he reached the bakery there was only one left. An extra largeone on top of that, since it was kind of an unspoken rule that thefinal donut, aka the biggest one, was reserved for the minister. Themere sight of the giant treat caused Katakuri to quietly sigh withanticipation as he placed his offer, aside from the Red Velvet Donuthe also ordered a dozen different ones to gobble up for breakfasttoday. Everything seemed so perfect, so wonderful… and then heprepared to leave.
Carefully holding the huge bag ofdonuts (which was still considerably small compared to him) with hisleft arm, Katakuri turned around, towards the door- and just then the bell rang.
A new customer stepped inside- a youngand fragile looking woman who was holding a small piece of paper inher hand, her eyes quickly began to wander around the interior until her gazeshifted up to Katakuri, and with a shy smile and quick bow shegreeted the large man.
Good thing his scarf was covering upmost of his face, because by the time her eyes reached his there wasa rather large red hue covering part of his cheeks as he cleared histhroat and muttered a quick greeting.
The woman was none other than (Y/N), a shorttime citizen of Wheat Island and Katakuri’s 'secret crush’ as hisyounger triplet brothers would often refer to her before the secondson could shut them and their immature teasing down.
Although deep down he was aware thatthey spoke the truth to some extend, he was still unable to fully admit itto himself, especially since he 'barely’ knew her…
„Uhm, excuse me?“ a velvety voice suddenly tore through the silence.
…by the time he snapped out of his'daydreaming’ the young woman had already strolled past him and wasnow standing at the counter and curiously eyed the displayed treats.Katakuri could feel his face cool down a bit and once again preparedto leave, when her next sentence suddenly caught his attention.
„I know I am a bit late, but do youstill have any Red Velvet Donuts left? Uhm, I heard they were reallygood…“ she asked shyly and began to fidge with her hands. Clearly just asking this seemed to make her uncomfortable, and the red hue on hercheeks only deepened when the baker answered with a negative response.
„O-Oh, I see. Ah that’s no problem, Iguess I just came by a bit too late…“ the young woman thencontinued and instead ordered two simple, chocolate glazed donutsinstead. Katakuri could tell that even though she tried to pretend tobe fine, there was a hint of disappointment reflected in her eyes, andwithout even thinking twice about it the tall man quickly strolledback to the counter and stopped right next to her.
(Y/N) seemingly averted her gaze as shewaited for her order to be done, and by now the few other peopleinside the bakery turned to look at the two people at the counter.
Katakuri continued to stare at her fora few more moments, completely unaware that his intense gaze justincreased the young woman’s level of confusion and discomfort, whenhe suddenly began to roam through his bag and pulled out the largeRed Velvet Donut.
Although the delicious smell of thetreat caused some drool to escape from his mouth and soaked hisscarf, he held himself back and instead bowed down so he could bemore on her level.
„Miss (Y/N)…“ he muttered throughhis scarf, and the mention of her name caused the young woman tofinally look up and meet his gaze as the blush on her cheeks deepenedeven more, and for some reason she was almost preparing herself to get scolded…. but what the tall man said next caught her even more off guard.
„what are you doing later today?“Katakuri half asked/muttered through his scarf, one of his eyebrowsnow raised in what seemed to be… anticipation?
„E-EEEEHH?!?!“
her voice was as highpitched as that ofa chipmunk as the young woman looked up at the minister, any sort ofrefinement was gone and a shocked expression settled on her face.
And then- silence.
This wasn’t the response Katakuriwanted- no, anticipated- and now he was unsure on how to continue, sohe simply remained silent. Maybe she would continue…
But she didn’t.
Not only did the other customers stareat the two, but the baker himself took a step back and looked on asthe two people at the counter were seemingly having a stare-off.
Nobody seemed to know what was goingon, and after a few more moments of very, very awkward silence,Katakuri stood up and straightened his back while clearly avoiding tolook at the woman infront of him.
„….Here.“ he simply muttered andbasically shoved the huge donut into her arms, causing (Y/N) toalmost stumble backwards and fall on her butt, before he was quicklyturning around and finally exiting the bakery with a few large steps.
—
And now, here he was. As soon asKatakuri returned to his mansion, he immediately went inside his hugedinner room and build himself a small mochi house, something he hasnever done before, but because of today’s previous embarrassment hefelt so insecure that he needed to pull up another wall to seclude himself.
His breakfast donuts were thrown on theground almost immediately, the tea he had previously prepared hadgone cold and in a meekly attempt to take a sip he not only spilledthe contents of his teacup all over himself but the donuts as well.
Another groan left his lips and wasinstantly muffled through his scarf as he leaned back and closed hiseyes, trying to forget about the event of the morning.
The worst part of it all? This wasn’tthe first time something like this had happened.
The tall man had made multiple attemptsto ask the young woman out, but each seemingly ended in yet anotherdisaster- most of the time it was like today, he would attempt to'flirt’ with her in his own 'unique’ way, she wouldn’t understand himand then there was just silence until he eventually stormed off. Itwas always the same, yet part of him refused to just give up.'She would be worth it’ he kept on telling himself, and even thoughKatakuri had NO IDEA what would happen if she actually said yes and agreed to go on a date with him, he just… kept trying.Moments like these almost caused him to wish that he was as much of asocial butterfly as some of his other siblings, who seemed to be ableto flirt oh so smoothly and always with success… the mere thought just further caused his mood to drop as he continued tosulk for a few more moments when suddenly his doorbellrang.
Katakuri raised an eyebrow with mildcuriosity as he was wondering about who might have come to visit him.Perhaps it was just Oven or Daifuku who somehow found out about whatwent down at the bakery this morning… that thought alone caused alow growl to escape from the tall man’s throat as he slowly exitedhis shrine and made his way over the door, mentally preparing himselfto look into the teasing faces of his two younger twins…
But instead, it was (Y/N). And in herhands what seemed to be a basket filled with Red Velvet Donuts… Hergaze was focused on the ground, and as soon as the door opened shetook a deep breath and slowly began to look up at the minister.
„Uhm, pardon me, Lord Katakuri…“the young woman began, clear nervousness strained her voice as shemoved a strand of hair out of her face.
„I… I just wanted to thank you. Forthe donut! Ehm… I’m sorry and wanted to let you know that it’s… okay. I may be a new citizen of Wheat Island, but that doesn’t mean thatyou have to let me have your food!“
Confusion made its way onto Katakuri’sfeatures as he eyed the basket and then the young woman. Hold on…
Did she believe he gave her the donutbecause she was his citizen, and he wanted to satisfy her since itwas his duty…? If so, then that means she really misinterpreted what he was trying to do once again… A sigh left his lips as hemomentarily closed his eyes, carefully thinking about what to saynext. He clearly didn’t want to mess up again like back at thecafe…
„That’s not it, (Y/N). It was a gift, and the reason why I wanted you to have it was… I might… uhm… like…“ Katakuri tookanother deep breath as his mind was swirling around like a hurricane, and his throat felt oddly dry all of a sudden… He noticed the youngwoman looking up at him with confusion this time, and he knew that hehad to act fast or this would escalate into another awkwardencounter… So with a quick shake of his head, Katakuri decided to try and finally ask her out.
„I meant to ask if you were doinganything later. Because today’s weather is rather promising and it’sperfect to climb the Donut Mountain,“ he continued, and Katakurinever felt more relieved that his scarf was covering up his nowburning cheeks, „only very few people have been to the top. And since you’re new and all.. ifyou have time and feel like it… I would gladly be your guide.“
Realizing what it was he was offeringher, (Y/N) quickly looked back down as a deep red hue now covered herown cheeks as well. Oh, so that was what he was after…
„O-oh! So uhm… you meant to askme… out on a rendezvous earlier? Oh no, I’m so sorry for making things awkward!” the young woman quickly exclaimed and put the basket down infront of him before looking up with a shy smile, “uhm, please, take them regardless! And climbing Donut Mountain together sounds… lovely! I-I mean I would like that really! There’s nothing I had planned for today, so if you want… we could go there right now…?” she continued and played around with her hair a bit.
A sigh of relief immediately left Katakuri’s lips as he nodded down at her and picked up the basket.
“Of course. Just give me a moment to change, uhm… this attire isn’t really fit for climbing or hiking.” he responded and finally remembered the tea stain on his clothes… good thing (Y/N) appearantly didn’t notice that yet… Instead the young woman gave him a nod as Katakuri turned around and entered his mansion again, this time with a small smile on his mouth.
He may not have people skills like his siblings, but maybe it would be enough this time…

Bookshelf Briefs 12/5/18
ACCA 13-Territory Inspection Department, Vol. 5 | By Natsume Ono | Yen Press – Jean’s identity is, if not in the open explicitly, at least well known among the cast. This is a big problem, of course, especially for his sister, who is the very definition of hostage bait. Fortunately, Jean also has friends that can help him out there—his sister is pretty much the one ray of sunshine in the series, so I don’t want to see her sacrificed. That doesn’t mean that it’s depressing tragedy, mind you—it just means that, as with most Ono titles, the majority consists of discussions among middle-aged men (and one woman). This being ACCA, they’re political discussions, though there’s a bit of food thrown in. As always, a good read if you’re an Ono fan. – Sean Gaffney
Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter, Vol. 2 | By Reai and Suki Umemiya | Seven Seas – Since the first volume came out, we’ve seen the appearance of the My Life as a Villainess series, which has essentially the exact same premise. That series is more focused on Katarina changing her fate and bonding with the cast of the VN, though. Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter is more like Realist Hero, wanting to change the world and advance it towards modern times. So we’re not only inventing chocolate, but also coffee, and concentrating on good roads and educating the youth. There’s not really much in terms of antagonists so far—Iris explains what she wants to do precisely and effectively, and everyone agrees with her. This makes it a tad dull, sadly. – Sean Gaffney
Beasts of Abigaile, Vol. 4 | By Spica Aoki | Seven Seas – I didn’t know when I started this volume that it’s the final volume of the series. It was only when one of the central hunky boys got definitively crossed off the list romantically that I was spurred to look it up and, yep, this is it. In her notes afterwards, Aoki-sensei says there was much she wanted and needed to draw that she couldn’t include, which makes me wonder if the series got canceled. Still, it hangs together reasonably well. Nina’s origins are explained, the king makes an appearance, there’s a big escape, noble sacrifice, and one person who seems to entirely lose touch with reality. What we don’t see is how any of the luga fare once they are out in the world but we’re encouraged to imagine a happy ending. Overall, this series was far from deep but still pretty fun. – Michelle Smith
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, Vol. 5 | By CLAMP | Kodansha Comics – There are interesting things going on in this volume of Clear Card. We meet Sakura’s great-grandfather, who apparently fell out with Nadeshiko when she got married (possibly as she married her teacher), but now regrets it because she’s dead. Speaking of that, Nadeshiko explicitly tells Sakura she should stop summoning her spirit for visions as it’s unhealthy. And Eriol finally coughs up a bit of info, revealing that Sakura is making her own cards using her magic and imagination—and that’s super dangerous if she knows about it. So let’s keep everything from her some more. I’d be more invested in this sequel if it weren’t so dull—the interesting plot points are conveyed tediously. – Sean Gaffney
Frau Faust, Vol. 5 | By Kore Yamazaki | Kodansha Comics – The way that Frau Faust ends is surprising to no one, but it’s done with a lot of style and feeling. Even the villains in this story get a chance to show off how they got that way, and for Marion, it’s an attempt to show off how much he’s grown. Despite that, this wasn’t going to be his story in the end—Johanna is who the reader is invested in. (Sarah is also pretty invested in Johanna, and the way her story resolves is touching but also very sad.) I actually wish that the series had gone on a bit longer—the action sequences here are even better than in The Ancient Magus’ Bride—but I’m also fine with this ending, which is final and yet the teensiest bit ambiguous. Let’s license more Yamazaki. – Sean Gaffney
Frau Faust, Vol. 5 | By Kore Yamazaki | Kodansha Comics – As the volume begins, Johanna has let herself be captured by the church in order to gain access to the holy city, where Mephisto’s final parts are. A lot of the stuff that follows isn’t exactly clear, but the gist of it is that all of Johanna’s friends are there to help her get to Mephisto’s head and there is a lot of action that culminates with her telling him, “I win.” Quite a few aspects of the ending are open to interpretation, which I’m not exactly fond of, but which fits the spirit of the series pretty well. Chief among them—did Johanna actually intend for that to happen all along? I do love how inspired by her everyone else was, and am especially fond the quiet love story between two characters. In the end, I enjoyed this series very much, though I do wish it had been longer. – Michelle Smith
Gabriel Dropout, Vol. 5 | By Ukami |Yen Press – We get another new character this time around, in the form of Kurona. She’s a demon who wants to make friends, but is rather awful at it, and it doesn’t help that she’s trying to befriend Taplis, who is an airhead even by the standards of Gabriel Dropout, a series dripping with airheads. Speaking of which, Satanya’s new attempt to defeat Gabriel works quite well, but not in the way she intended. (Yuri fans may like it, though.) We also get more backstory showing how Gabriel became what she is now, which was… exactly what you’d expect, to be honest. There weren’t quite as many laughs in this volume of Gabriel Dropout, but it’s still a cute, fun series. – Sean Gaffney
Hatsu*Haru, Vol. 3 | By Shizuki Fujisawa | Yen Press – I guess we do need to pair at least some of the spares already, as Miki and Kiyo, the pure cute boy-girl team from last time, end up becoming a couple in this volume in an utterly pure, cute and adorable way. Unfortunately, Kai is the hero, so he’s not going to have nearly as easy a time of it. On the bright side, Riko’s crush on Satoshi pretty much gets kicked to the curb this volume, as we confirm that he’s getting married. Which she knew was coming, but it still hurts. This allows Kai to man up and confess to Riko, though given this series is thirteen volumes and this is volume three, I suspect it may go badly. Still, while this breaks no new ground, it’s a good shoujo story, well told. – Sean Gaffney
Murcielago, Vol. 8 | By Yoshimurakana | Yen Press – There’s pretty much a volume full of action here. Some of it is Kuroko and Hinako, who pair up again to try to take out the big bad (and we actually get some backstory for Hinako! It’s as blood-filled as you’d expect.) and some of it is Urara, Kuroko’s hugely muscled and somewhat dim bartender friend, who’s on the cover but is mostly there to be comedy relief. It’s also nice to see Reiko, the cool assassin from previous books, who is still very good at her job but gets very angry if you think she’s a boy. (She also gets the sex scene at the end of the volume, meaning it’s pretty tasteful.) But let’s face it—we read Murcielago for the ridiculous violence. There’s a lot of it here. – Sean Gaffney
One Piece, Vol. 88 | By Eiichiro Oda | VIZ Media – Having successfully rescued Sanji, the Straw Hat crew is now attempting to escape the clutches of Big Mom, who is rampaging because she didn’t get to eat any wedding cake. I really appreciated the spotlight on female characters in this volume. Nami has actually been extremely smart and capable this whole arc, but now we see super tsundere Pudding stepping up to make a new cake to satisfy Big Mom’s hunger as well as Carrot the mink briefly becoming a badass as she transforms under the full moon. I also like that Pudding seems really into Sanji; I kind of hope they end up an official couple! Luffy’s fight with Katakuri is entertaining, as well, since their powers are so similar. All in all, this is a very well-paced and exciting installment. – Michelle Smith
Requiem of the Rose King, Vol. 9 | By Aya Kanno | Viz Media – We continue to stagger onwards towards the events of Richard III, though honestly neither Kanno or the reader are all that interested in matching up with Shakespeare precisely. We also lose Richard’s older brother George, who is done in by a lot of political machinations and Richard essentially being a triple agent. That said, Richard may be in trouble soon, as Buckinghan, the classic “bespectacled bastard,” has learned his body has a secret to it. Fortunately, he also has a mysterious bodyguard, who readers will immediately recognize but Richard doesn’t quite—yet. This is basically Kanno’s best series. Buy it. – Sean Gaffney
