I've always been curious - what are your favorite ships?

under the cut bc its rambly and No One Cares about my old ass fandoms that were seasonal for most people but stuck with me for some reason and also to maybe avoid showing up in searches/tags for the rare person looking for Content

i guess the most Hardcore ive ever shipped is mcreyes (yes, overwatch i know), they consumed me with a rage that pretty much burned me out of fandom (tho i still ship it, i just literally never found anyone that sees them the same way i do - non-fanon compliant it is for me). along with them i also have somva and widowana and of course shimadacest, its just the Polycule living in my head [i guess i should point out i broke up w canon after the like first year of development ie after the great retconning so i neither know nor care whats happening there, these characters are basically (schrodinger's) ocs at this point]

the other fandom i am Too invested in is, tragically, dragon age, which i still sorta indulge in some Canon for (i apologize for whats likely going to happen to this blog once the next game comes out lmao). My ships there are mostly OC/canon, as the games sorta lead into. Anora/Zevran/Cousland (and cousland/loghain, and cousland/fergus...); Carver/Hawke/Isabela (/qp!Anders) [well and just some good old hawke/anders really], and Dorian/Trevelyan/Blackwall (/qp!Vivienne) are my mains.

dragon age leads to mass effect, where i fell head over for shakarian which i will fight for to my last breath i do not give a fuck. and also ashlaw wich i literally had to invent a shipname for cuz nobody else cares about it lmao (ashley and miranda if anyone even knows the franchise here lol)

i think more obvious is my love for star wars, i ship just the entire pentacule in the prequels/clone wars - obi/ani/padme/ahsoka/sabine. han/leia/luke(/lando?) for the og trilogy and reylo and finn/rose/poe in the new one (tho thanks to fandom im much less invested in finnpoe)

ive been in like a few fandoms that were wild and strong but didnt last - red dead where i shipped john/arthur/abigail; detroit become human where hannor ate my brains. pathfinder and divinity original sin which literally did not have a fandom, but i will tell you i very much ship my mains with amiri/octavia/regongar (in kingmaker) and camellia/daeran (in wotr);. in divinity Lohse/Sebille and Fane/Ifan are the other polycule plaguing me. oh and pillars of eternity with devil of caroc/maneha/PC tho i eventually ended up pairing up aloth w my pc in deadfire

real talk tho, the most recent thing close to an Obsession is fucking league of legends (yes i know) where its swain/darius/draven; yasuo/yone/taliyah; kayn/zed; and some good old lucian/senna. i mean you've seen the TF/Graves art this shouldnt be a surprise lol

and yeah in Arcane its silco/jinx/vi/vander

But mostly lately ive been merrily making DnD OCs and playing Rimworld which allows for amazing characters so it's kinda OC season i guess

oh and as an end to this rant which everyone gave up on reading im sure - i'll leave you with the fact that what got me into real fandom communities was itasasu (/saku and/or karin sometimes) and wincest (/jack) has been a latent interest even tho spn has never been high on my interests list so do with that what you will lol

Fandom: Overwatch Characters: Genji, Angela Relationship: Genji/reader Request: Ive seen a junkrat x reader on your blog, but would you write for genji? Perhaps the reader is Angelas assistant shes the best for dealing with cyborgs so she sees to him regularly but one days shes injured and hes worried. “You’re late.” You called over your shoulder as you heard the door open and quiet footsteps open. Glancing over your shoulder, you saw Genji walk over to the bench so he could sit on it. “My apologies.” He bowed his head to you with genuine sorrow for upsetting you. “I started to think you had forgotten about me.” You chuckled as you turned and walked up to him. “Never.” His voice was soft as you reached out and pressed the pads which released his armour. You couldn’t help but smile softly at the gentleness in his voice. When he first came here, he was an angry man, filled with hate and sorrow. He worked with Zenyatta and was able to tame a lot of his anger. You and Angela had worked tirelessly to help him. You were the one who crafted his new body while Angela was able to bond the human body to the metal in as little pain as possible. You both gave him the chance to live again, to fight for what he believed in and to grow. He was grateful for that and he always showed it. Genji had great respect for both you and Angela, but if was you that he grew closest to in the whole base. He saw you nearly every day, either in passing, briefs or during his weekly check ups. After missions, he came straight to you to make sure nothing had seriously injured both his physical body and his cyborg one. Today was just a check up. you carefully looked over every joint and mechanism, checking to make sure there were no issues. Genjis eyes watched you the entire time. “y/n]?” Tracer popped her head round the door as she knocked. “You coming out for tea?” “No, ive still got work to do. You guys go ahead. I’ll catch up with you tomorrow.” You smile at her, laughing when she pouted but disappeared. “You can do. I can wait till tomorrow.” Genji suddenly spoke, his voice soft. “No, don’t be silly.” You wave him off as you reached up to take off his visor and mask so you could check and make sure it was fine. You pulled it off his face, holding your breath for a moment as your eyes met his own. His real eyes. His entire face was scared but his eyes were as beautiful as ever. It was the first thing you noticed about him when he first ended up in front of you. ��Who says I don’t prefer spending my time with you?” you asked his, raising an eyebrow at him and you saw those beautiful eyes light up. “Then, perhaps, I could take you out tonight?” He asks tentatively, immediately making your heart beat fast in your chest. His voice no longer had the metallic ring that came with his helmet but either voice could bring you to your knees. Was he truly asking you out? but before you could reply, Angela rushed into the room. “[y/n], I need your help. Reinhardt hurt.” She quickly told you before rushing back out. “oh god.” You handed Genji back his helmet. You saw the way his shoulders slouched and his eyes lost their glint. “im really sorry. Perhaps tomorrow?” “Tomorrow?” Genji immediately perked up and you couldn’t help but smile as you rushed to grab your lab coat. “Yes, when I get back tomorrow.” You nod, feeling a flutter in your chest at how happy he now looked. As you raced past him to the door, you pressed a very light kiss to his cheek before disappearing, leaving genji with a soft glow in his cheeks. ----time skip --------------- You sat up in bed, your book opened on your lap. You were really only half concentrating and had to keep rereading paragraphs as you waited for Angela to come back with more pain killers. You weren’t normally out in the field during battles like Angela, but she had been busy, and you had been asked to go. It was meant to be a quick mission. Get in, get info, get out. Winston and Tracer had assured you of this. But once you got inside, you discovered it was an ambush. while you managed to keep everyone else alive, you took some bad blows yourself. Thankfully, Winston was able to pick you up and escape with Tracer right behind him. They had taken you straight to Angela, who had gasped when she saw your state. You had fallen unconscious on the way back and only came too a few hours ago with Angela at your side. She reassured you that you still had all your limps and that you hadn’t been out long. You had a lot of bruises and cuts on you, but nothing detrimental. your attention was drawn up to the door as it opened, and you expected Angela to walk in. But it wasn’t. “Genji.” You couldn’t help but instantly smile as he enters the room. He looked rather smart; all things considered. He wore a black and white suit that fit sell over cyborg body without being too obvious. In fact, he was rather dashing. You felt yourself melt at his appearance. He reaches up and removed his helmet the second the door closes before rushing to your side. You saw the fear in his eyes as they darted over your body. “Are you alright?” he asks desperately as he reached out to cup your face, carful not to touch any cuts. You instantly lean into his ouch, reach up to cup your hand over his own. “Im fine, I promise.” You smile. But then the memories of your encounter with him the day before came flooding back to you. “oh Genji, I forgot about our date. Im so sorry.” You started to ramble as you bolted to sit up but the bruising on your ribs cause you pain and you let out a cry. Your hands clasped over the area of pain as genji instantly placed a hand on your back and his other one atop your own. He guides you to lie back down but smiles at you. “ive waited a long time to ask you out. I can wait a little longer for you to heal.” He speaks softly to you, soothing your fears that he might be annoyed with you. “You’re incredibly sweet, Genji.” You smiled before letting out a soft giggle. “What?” He asked, tilting his head to the side in curiosity. You did love it when he did this, especially when he was wearing his helmet because it looked so cute. “You got all dressed up for me, and I turn up like this.” You gesture to your battered body. “Still beautiful.” Genji mumbled to you, a soft smile on his lips. You couldn’t help but giggle, even out of embarrassment as your cheeks shone red. “So, where were we going to go? Seeing as you’re dressed up so fancy?” You ask, pushing yourself up a little as Genji sat on the side of your bed. “A surprise. I’ll take you there when you’re healed.” Genji smiles as he reached out and takes your hand in his own. “And until then?” You ask, pouting out your lip. “I shall stay by your side, as you stayed by mine.” Genjis voice made your heart flutter as he spoke. You couldn’t help the blush that dawned your cheeks or the smile that pulled on your lips. Before you could respond, the door opened and Angela walked in, your tablets in the palm of her hands. “This should be enough for-“ She stops when she see Genji and the rather intimate moment that had been taken place. “oh, I should come back later.” She smiles sweetly at you, placing your tablets on the side before leaving, probably to go and tell Winston and Tracer. It was a down side of her knowing about your crush on Genji. “Do you need anything?” Genji turns back to you. “A glass of water would be nice.” You respond with a small nod. Genji smiles and rises from the bed. He bows his head to you before leaving to retrieve your drink. Once he had left, Angela was straight back inside, apparently having been waiting. She was beaming at you. “It seems you have your own personal doctor.” She smirks, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “You have to get me better as soon as possible.” You sit up, a little slower than before. “As long as im you’re maid of honour.” She smiles before dodging the pillow you throw at her with a chuckle.

What don't you like about fandom hanzo? :o just asking because I'm really picky about it myself personally

oh anon youve asked the Wrong question bc i have A Lot of thoughts on my boy hanzo

BUT before i say anything i just want 2 say that Despite the fact that i bitch a lot abt characterization on this blog, i dont intend hate or disrespect @ anyone who portrays characters in the way i bitch about. fandom is about making yourself happy & if a characterization makes you happy then you should pursue it despite what my dumb bitch ass has to say about it. ok.

ive mentioned this a few times before but i

A. love redemption arcs and

B. dont like... victimization. whether its canon or not-- like a character whose whole thing revolves around them being a victim of everything in their life? eh. boring. like widowmaker: she was a happy ballerina... she got brainwashed... it’s like... now what. she was happy, now she’s a victim, there’s nothing cool in there to explore.

i dislike characterizations of hanzo where people try to explain away the fratricide with ‘he was abused by sojiro’ or ‘he was brainwashed by the clan of elders’ partially because of what i just said and partially because it just seems unlikely in canon bc

1.chu... a while ago, said genji was part of overwatch when he was human, which we took as a slip-up but i dont think(?) that he ever took that back.

2.genji says something in retribution like ‘no matter what i do... i cannot escape my fate’ when mccree says they’ve become assassins, implying he’s tried to escape becoming an assassin.

3. overwatch was conveniently close enough to genji & the shimadas that they could swoop in and save him before he actually died

4. genji wasnt murdered. he was brutalized. he has scars up and down his arms, he’s got burn scars on his face, and when hanzo was done with him he couldnt walk anymore. plus there’s a post somewhere on here that theorizes due to the nature of blackwatch genji’s prosthesis + the blood spatter in hanamura, it seems that hanzo attacked him from behind

hanzo’s bio says

Upon the death of his father, the clan elders instructed Hanzo to straighten out his wayward younger brother so that he, too, might help rule the Shimada empire. When his brother refused, Hanzo was forced to kill him. This act broke Hanzo's heart and drove him to reject blah blah

but genji’s death doesnt seem like some kind of duty driven, single-manly-tear-slipping-down-the-cheek, hold-him-in-your-arms-as-he-goes death. he was brutalized. hanzo was angry.

while hanzo’s bio talks about hanzo’s broken heart, genji’s bio says this

Hanzo demanded that Genji take a more active role in their late father's empire. Genji refused, enraging Hanzo. The tension between the brothers built to a violent confrontation that left Genji on the verge of dying.

and i mean ok. im not here to judge hanzo or condemn him (personally i think ppl who try to assert their moral superiority over fictional characters are.. a little pathetic) & there’s a lot that goes into this, pressure from the elders, japanese culture, unhealthy environments. but hanzo had a choice.

all this stuff seems to imply to me that genji betrayed the shimadas for overwatch. maybe he caught on that he was in danger without sojiro around to protect him. maybe he just wanted out. i dont know. does it matter?

but hanzo couldve spared him. couldve cast him out. couldve done a bunch of things, but he didnt.

the fact is. that hanzo killed his brother. (brutalized his brother).

and thats why i find him interesting. how do you deal with that?

like, okay. you’re standing there, and you’ve got your little brother’s blood on your hands. and you’re looking down at him (at his corpse) and the adrenaline high is leaving and it’s beginning to sink in that you’ve murdered your little brother. in cold blood. what do you do? what’s next?

i mean, you punch someone in the face and you feel bad about it, you go ‘oh shit im so sorry’ and you grab them an ice pack. but genji’s dead. there’s no one to apologize to. there’s no way to fix it. you’ve done a terrible thing. an evil thing. an abusive, awful, terrible thing. and you cant take it back. and there’s no one or nothing to blame it on: you did it and there’s nothing you can do to change that.

what’s next? where do you go from there?

that’s what i find interesting about hanzo. because thats the thing about overwatch. anyone can be a hero. even if youve killed your brother. even if you’re the worst person on the planet. all you have to do is try.

and. in this context it makes more sense that hanzo rejects genji at first. the cycle he mustve been going down those ten years.

i killed my brother --> im a terrible person because ive killed my brother --> i killed my brother because im a terrible person

his whole concept of himself has devolved into this brother-killer who can never redeem himself, and then genji pops up one day like ‘hey whats up’ and this isnt just forcing hanzo to re-evaluate his relationship with genji, but also himself. it’s a bit self-centered, yeah, but he rejects genji in part because He Is A Brother Killer, that’s just how he sees himself. genji shows up and hanzo’s like, ‘you cant be alive because im a filthy bastard that killed my brother’

its obvious he still regrets it though. he says it was duty (i cant even get into that w/o more context abt what he means by ‘duty’ + the whole situation beyond vague descriptions in bios) and he also stopped using a sword after that. which is interesting either way. was that out of respect? did he just feel sick using one? idk.

the whole idea of blaming what he did on abuse or brainwashing is just so meh :/ to me because i just dont like those kind of stories. partially because a lot of the time they just feel like the author is trying to garner sympathy for an unlikable character, and partially because oftentimes abuse is passed off as a motivation when it’s not.

lots of people are abused. there is no one reaction or outcome of abuse. someone lashes out at their abuser and kills them, that’s because they were angry or scared, not because they were abused. the anger was created bc of the abuse but the anger is what led them to act, not the abuse.

hearing about the abuse just makes me sad, and to be completely honest it doesnt make me sympathize with a character any more or less. it’s just like adding really bland cheese to a sandwich. i can tell the cheese is there, but i cant taste it and it doesnt really affect the sandwich. all it does is give me more to chew.

hanzo didnt kill genji because he was abused or brainwashed, or else all abused/brainwashed children would kill their siblings. hanzo killed genji because he was angry (maybe that anger as born of abuse. frankly i dont think it matters much). what i want to see less of with hanzo is ‘fucked up bastard kills his brother’ and less of ‘poor abused baby accidentally tripped and stabbed genji with his sword :(’ and more ‘confused man tries to figure out how to live with himself after realizing he is kind of an awful person’

plus i feel like hanzo is a very specific balance between a broken man and a complete jackass and no one seems to combine those 2 traits in a way that satisfies me

Why do you hate Reaper76? From what I can tell from others, the main issue is that it's abusive (even though most fan art is either set when they were best friends, or at a time when they've already made up), it has a lot of stereotypical kinky yaoi fan art (guess what, that happens with literally EVERY gay ship. You're precious Doomfist/Reaper pairing will get the same treatment) and that its a white guy with a Hispanic guy, because apparently mixing races is bad.

anon, lemme tell you, that i used to be the BIGGEST r76 shipper. like if you look through my blog, the VERY first post on my blog is r76. ive even written some fics for them, though i dont share my ao3 atm. i starting shipping it around the same time i got the game, aka, july of last year. i was attracted to the ship mostly because of gabriel, i’ll admit-- i interpret him as afrolatinx and as a black person, i latched onto him the same way i’ve latched onto lucio and black widow.

i hate the ship because it took until about halloween for the racists in the fandom to drive me out.

i loved the ship SO much that i’d check the ao3 for it every single night, and that was the literal downfall. i checked it every night and so i PERSONALLY watched as more and more racist, stereotyping fics appeared, over and over-- fics that fetishized gabrel and his race, fics that made gabriel larger and meaner and scarier than jack, fics that made gabriel out to BE an abuser towards jack, or fics where gabriel was a dog that existed just to make jack happy. fics where gabriel had no characterization other than being jacks happiness or misery-- fics that portrayed jack as immediately likeable (because hes white) and fics that portrayed gabriel as immediately intimidating (because hes brown). fics that waxed poetry about jacks pale skin and cornflower blue eyes, but only mentioned gabriels looks to point out his thick thighs or massive cock. fics where gabriel straight up kidnapped jack and raped him. im not making any of these up. these are all fics i saw in the tag that distressed me, over and over again, because i was just a black kid that wanted nice content of a ship with a character i could personally relate to.

i looked on tumblr, and lo and behold, i saw the same thing! gabriel towering over jack (when theyre the same height), gabriel being scary, gabriel being accused and abused and demonized, “sexy thighs” gabriel and nothing else, meta (i used to love reading meta-- now i cant stand overwatch meta regarding the old soldiers at all) that sympathized with jack and portrayed gabriel as a jealous demon who deserved to die and is obsessed with jack. i followed blogs, and was immediately bombarded with white washed art, and then excusing of the whitewashing.

i was fresh out of anime fandom-- overwatch is the first gaming fandom ive ever been in and also my first fandom where there’s so many poc. i think r76 was one of my (if not the first) interracial ships where one of the characters was darker skinned. i became more and more jaded, every single time i opened ao3 or went into the tag. i know it sound silly, because its not real, but there was a time when i genuinely broke down into tears because i couldnt stand how gabriel was treated. id seen the “kinky yaoi” dynamic with mlm ships before, and this was WHOLLY magnified.

its not just because its “a white guy with a hispanic guy”. thats not my issue at all? i used to really love jack, too? i wrote aus and rped r76 with my friends? and its not just that mixing races is bad, because a black man and an afrolatinx man is an interracial ship too? completely ignoring all of my other interracial ships?

i hate r76 because very few people could bother to treat gabriel with even ONE shred of the respect they afforded to jack. i hate it because i was literally driven away by the blatant, overreaching racism. i hate it because of all the times gabriel was “the dark man” or “the latino” in fics because you’d NEVER call jack “the pale man” or “the caucasian”. i hate it because yall motherfuckers dont know how to act.

can i say that every r76 shipper is bad? no, of course not. but until the r76 community puts itself together and addresses the racists and harmful stereotypes that it harbors, then yeah, i fucking hate it. and no, im not gonna say, “not all r76 shippers”. this is the last time im answering an ask like this and if you wanna try to change my mind or genuinely talk to me about it, then you better PM me or message me off anon.

and btw? i know that doomfist/reaper might end up with some bad apples, but i have more faith in a ship that was born by a majority BLACK (because yes, the first shippers i saw including myself, are black, or mostly poc) fandom because i know that we’re less likely to apply harmful disgusting stereotypes to ourselves. so if youre feeling butthurt about “doomper” and people having fun, then maybe consider doing what ive had to do for months-- suck it up.

this is rough bc like i’ve played a lot of good games and by good i mean like ones with plot twists that just make you want to fuckin scream???? I mean it kinda depends because I could sit and tell you that I love Giovanni and Guzma from Pokemon until my face turns blue but like in terms of villains that actually fucked with me on a deeper level, I’d probably have to say that whole clusterfuck that is Zero or Hongou from ZE was and always will be one of the greatest things ive ever been blessed to experience because THAT really messed me up. But also, shoutout to other really amazing evil plot twists like Yomiel from Ghost Trick or Dunning from Hotel Dusk??? PLEASE AND THANK

Xbox: least favorite video game/franchise

Hmmmm idk bc like I have a couple different answers for this so GET READY FOR SOME UNPOPULAR OPINIONS but like I have games that seem or ARE actually pretty cool but have otherwise have been ruined for me like Overwatch (shoutout to my ex), or Undertale (shoutout to the world’s shittest fandom). Then there are games that I’ve played and I just couldn’t bring myself to get into mainly bc I either suck at them or they just couldn’t hold my interest like literally any Call of Duty game (or just most shooters that aren’t Bioshock in general???) or, and dare I admit, I couldn’t bring myself to keep playing Fallout? Like, that was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS3 and I was so excited for it and just??? idk I felt it was so lackluster and boring. But that’s just me so idk lmao
