Hey! I saw you leave a reply on a blazed post about bigoted staff at Tumblr! Could you point me in the right direction to learn more? I do not want to support a website with where money is going into bigoted pockets.

Hi there, I'm assuming good faith here and will say that the simple truth of it comes down to tumblr being a company with a company's motivations, it's not a friend and there is many posts on here by black users detailing the countless ways the runners of this website are virulently antiblack. People's money going into checkmarks and the blaze feature could and should be tangible help spent elsewhere

It unfortunately doesn't take long to identify how this website let's bigotry run rampant and I could give an ocean of examples at the top of my head so I'll list a few

Blaze posts get vetted before they're approved for publishing and there's been many instances of posts by terfs being allowed to spread fascist ideology. There's also been nudes by white people put on people's feeds via blaze whereas clothed, sfw pictures of black people have gotten flagged, blazed or not.

There's many, many Nazis on this website whose blogs are allowed to stay up (some of which have even ended up on my dashboard via the messy "based on your likes" function which has put a lot of dodgy shit on my feed but a military aesthetics blog by a Hungarian Nazi was by far the most enraging) while black people's accounts get suspended for nothing.

When people were posting about Ferguson the tag on here got suppressed and now tumblr changed its icon to a black woman and put 'black women, take care of your mental health' or something in a header banner which especially given this site's track record is beyond patronising garbage

I can't remember the details but there was also an instance of a user getting their account suspended specifically for talking about (talking about, not threatening mind you) the tumblr of an avowed harry potter fan staff member who's likely still part of running the website.

Tumblr has seen a 125% profit increase through blaze and checkmarks and a lot of people who search for a sense of identity in consumption believe using tumblr or giving money to tumblr over other websites is doing good when tumblr is just another cog in the wheel of capital that couldn't give less of a shit about people. Many people on here in dire need of mutual aid for survival are forced to see people having spent an exorbitant amount of money for a bunch of checkmark icons next to their usernames which literally says nothing other than "money was spent on these!!". If it's someone's joy to show how much money they've given to a website people should in fact take issue with that and interrogate where that need comes from. The checkmarks aren't a "funny dunk" on Musk's twitter takeover it's a profit margin a company saw and used successfully.

My legendary wife simply responds to blazed posts especially from users with checkmarks by long windedly talking about bowel movements for example which is infinitely funnier and probably more effective to discourage people from blazing their posts than my attempts to appeal to someone's sense of reason but who's to say lol
