talk about an opera you don’t normally get to talk about

Martha is an opera that is so underrated honestly. I mean when you think of it, it has it all--wacky adventures, mistaken/secret identities, love at first sight, idiots in love, the classic soprano/tenor + mezzo/baritone pairings, bops all over the place, gay vibes, a conspicuous quartet talking about how quiet and fast they should be, adorable hijinks, a bass in a white wig reading from a huge book, exhilarating choruses, arias so beautiful they elicit tears and ensembles so hilarious they also elicit tears, and a libretto so full of jokes and puns you can barely keep up with it.

Plus, I love how female-driven the opera is, being primarily from the soprano and mezzo's point of view.

and the characters are so great. We have Lady Harriet, who starts off as your typical stuck-up noblewoman who thinks it will be fun to pretend to be below her station for a day. but throughout the course of the story she learns that the whole idea of "stations" actually has nothing to do with what people are really like and in the end (spoilers) gives up everything to do with her station to be with the person she loves and lead a life she never knew she wanted.

Lionel, her love interest, is kinda your typical dreamy whiny tenor but we love that about him. He's never wanted anything more than what he has and his relationship with his surrogate brother Plunkett is so sweet. they tease each other like real brothers and are incredibly devoted to each other. Lionel is immediately smitten with Harriet (who tells him her name is Martha) and at one point literally throws himself at her feet. his despair is pretty melodramatic but hey, it's opera, and Flotow's music makes us belief every hyperbolic statement. and I love how in the end (spoilers again) when he finds out he's been royalty this entire time, he rejects it immediately and chooses to stay with the life and family he's known as long as he can remember. going along with Harriet's realization, Lionel proves that wealth and station aren't as meaningful as true love and family.

Plunkett (which, by the way, is my favorite name ever) is THEE comic baritone. He's so gruff and sarcastic but deep down a total sap and such a sweetie. He is so devoted to Lionel that he puts his own desires on hold in order to help his brother. even when the love of his life is standing right in front of him flirting mercilessly.

which leads us to NANCY!! Nancy has my whole entire heart. She is EVERYTHING--devoted, sweet, sassy, quick-witted, vindictive, a shameless flirt, and has some of the best bops in the show. I love her so much. She loves Harriet and works so hard to make her feel better. she has sympathy for the farmers and maids right off the bat. she says she wishes that there could be a court for farmers next to the court for nobles. (the pun comes across better in German. I have a huge literary crush on FW Riese.) she is SO sassy with Plunkett which makes him immediately smitten with her and is such a troublemaker, knocking over her spinning wheel and then running away pursued by Plunkett and apparently proceeds to knock everything over in the kitchen and sasses back when Plunkett calls her out. (also, she and Plunkett are alone in the kitchen knocking things over for like ten minutes while Lionel and Harriet have their romantic moment, so either Nancy is really good at hiding or these two were getting a head start on their relationship. I really want a production where when they come back she's wearing his hat or they've switched shirts or something.) She gets to chase Plunkett with a bow and arrow (and her flock of fellow huntresses) like she's manifesting Artemis.

she and Plunkett have seriously the best most underrated comic love duet in all of opera:

(another good one, tempo's a bit slow for me but the vocal acting is great, I wish they'd filmed this!!)

I love this duet so much, it's so cheeky and hilarious and sweet. it's different from most duets because it's continuing their fake-obliviousness, their refusal to acknowledge each other's and their own feelings, the hints and teasing building and building, with a sweet ending but also infuriating because they're not quite there! "Brotherly love comes first" "but then maybe he'll ask me" I CAN'T HANDLE THESE TWO they get this ridiculous little coloratura call-and-response at the end it makes me cry.

I could talk about them for hours lol. I wish this opera was more popular because I'd watch so many productions of this and love to see so many performers in these roles.

okay on that note some fantasy casting, as long as I'm here:

Renée Fleming as Harriet/Martha PLEASE!!!! she is so famous for singing "The Last Rose of Summer" it is an actual crime we don't get her in the whole opera. I'd like to see Nadine Sierra or Karine Deshayes sing it too.

if Susanne Mentzer were still acting I would lovvve to see her as Nancy. I think Joyce DiDonato would fit the role to a T too. Also Frederica von Stade or Ann Murray in their heydays.

I think Jonas Kaufmann would be a good Lionel. he gets some quality time with the floor in this opera. also the way he makes some kinda whiny tenors be endearing. Juan Diego Flórez would be a dream in this too.

I need Peter Mattei as Plunkett like yesterday. Simon Keenlyside was my first fantasy cast for this role and I'd love to see that too.

I want more people to know about this opera. I mean seriously, this opera has two of the most famous arias ever. "Ach so fromm" is on so many tenors' solo albums and pretty much everyone knows "Letzte Rose" even if they think they don't (yeah I know Flotow didn't write it but still).

the fact that so few people even know what this opera is saddens me. maybe because German comic opera in general is kinda neglected, and Flotow wasn't terribly famous, but by golly this opera has enough to carry itself to the common repertoire if people would just give it a chance.

14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer? Ooh, going right for the controversy! I have A/B/O and some related tags excluded from my standard filter. Every now and then, some of the writers I've subscribed to will post something with my excluded tags. And sometimes I will read it, because I like their writing and they're attempting something interesting with the concept. Generally all it does is reinforce why I've got it excluded from my filters (because even when it doesn't have the aspects that I loathe, it is still fundamentally squicky and unsettling.)

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason? Many times! Several of them were from @sassy-wartime-nun, because she just gets what I'm doing on a basic level. On more than one fic, she'll be like "this made me feel X, and think about Y in Z way," and I wrote that fic for the express purpose of evoking X feeling, and using Z to call Y to mind.

43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written? I don't think I've ever done this. It's intriguing, and I'd like to try sometime, but I just don't get ideas the way a lot of writers do. I worry I wouldn't be able to come up with anything.

-Her HC voice actress is Rebecca Hoing (The voice of Cream the Rabbit from Sonic X, the English Dub), but her HC singing voice actress is Trickywi

-She is in fact, crushing heavily on someone. Sister Vanessa (Another OC of mine), a sassy and cocky nun with a love for fashion and roses. However, Sis is aware that she's a nun and how she's forbidden in being in a relationship, but can't fail to hide her feelings as well

-She has a strange "fear" of cops for some reason, but I wouldn't really call it a "fear" and more of being slightly intimidated by them

-An animal I associate her with is sheep, they just fit her vibe XD

-Often says "Dear Lord" whenever things go wrong or whenever she's stressed

-Bluebells are her favorite flower

-Heavily scared of snakes

"What if pumunta ako dyan?"

Inunsent mo pa to e. Pero nabasa ko HAHAHAHAHA nung una duda ako pero alam mo yung may part sakin na naexcite bigla? Pero alam ko kasing first time mong aalis mag isa e. Tapos ang layo pa. Kaya sabi ko malabo. Pero dana. Seryoso ka nga!! Ano ka ba naman mahal bat naman ganyan 😭 sinabi ko kasi nung umaga na kailangan kita pero ang ibig ko namang sabihin dun is ako luluwas mahal!!!

Tapos nasa bus ka na! Kinangina maaga na ko nag out buti nalang talaga at wala ginagawa sa office kaya pwede akong umuwi ng maaga. Sabi mo kabado ka pa 🥹 kahit nung paalis ka palang kabado ka na kasi first time mo. Ganyan din ako mahal nung first time ko. Sa dianes remember? Ay iba pala yun HAHAHAHAHA anyways habang nasa bus ka na nag aayos na din talaga ako nun sa office pagkakain uwi agad ako. Tapos pagkarating ko apartment syempre ni ready ko yung place kasi dun ka magstay e. Kailangan feel at home ka ganun HAHAHAHA i even created a note na mga gagawin natin pagdating mo. Na di naman nagawa lahat HAHAHAHA

Eto yung note na di natin nagawa yung unang nasa list HAHAHAHHAA kasi naman

Pagdating ko ng terminal di kita mahanap!! Nasa loob ka pala HAHAHAHAHA sabi ko nasan na kaya to. Malapit lang naman location pero bat di kita makita??? Nasa may mga paalis ka pala late ko na din narealize HAHAHAHA tapos nakasalubong na kita pero di mo ko nakita. Sabay yakap ka hoyyyy 😭😭 ofw feels tayo dun ah HAHAHAHA pero ang sarap sa pakiramdam sabi ko pa ano gingawa mo dito???!!! HAHAHAHAHA i just cant lang talaga. So ayun di talaga makapaniwal ang ferson HAHAHAHA ending kasi maaga pa naman inaya nalang kitang moa. Kaya ayun nag negative tayo dun sa paborito nating pancake. Pero sobra naman yung naging kapalit nun. We decided to watch a movie total gusto din talaga naatin panuorin yung sassy girl e. Kaya ayun. Pagkabili ticket gusto ko din talaga mag sunset seeing kaya after natin mag avail ng ticket e diretso na sa may baywalk.

And nakalibre pa nga ng kape. Sabi ko naman sayo hanggat wala ka pang work wala ka pang karapatang manlibre e HAHAHAHA

And ayun ngaaaaaa. We had a chance na makita yung sunset. Favorite ko talaga sunset since day 1. Like pag tumitingin ako sa kanya kumakalma lahat. Gusto ko lang din ipakita sayo yung ganda ng sunset dito sa lugar na to. And di nga ako nabigo. And ang saya lang din kasama kita dalawa nating inaabangan yung sunset. Ang dami kong gustong gawin sa sunset alam mo ba yun? Gusto kong picturan ng malapita yan e pero wala pa kong tamang lens para dun. Pero saka na yun. Madali nalang naman yun pag totally stable na tayo e hehe tapos tapos pipicturan na kita nun dapat wag ka na mahiya HAHAHAHA ang ganda ganda kaya ng sunset photoshoot. Sunkissed ganun. Pero mas maganda talaga kung ako mismo kikiss sayo HAHAHAHAHA pero all in all yung sunset thing was wholesome talaga. Sakin mahal ganun e sana sayo din HAHAAHHAA i know naman na naenjoy mo din naman yung moment. Kasi ako dana naenjoy ko talaga. Sobra pa sa sobra! ❤️

After natin magsunset seeing maaga pa kaya naman tamang ikot lang muna sa moa and it happened na merong photobooth wahhhh. So sakto feb kaya dapat meron talaga tayong bagong picture kasi yun usapan natin e.

Tadaaaaaa. Cutie natin 🥹🥹 di naman halata sakin na tuwang tuwa ako sa ginagawa natin e no HAHAHAHAHA i just love us talaga sa mga gantong pagkakataon mahal. Like never in my whole life na ginawa ko to. Naiisip ko lang naman kasi to dati mahal e yung ganyan. Di ko man naisip na mararanasan ko yan kaya naman sobrang saya ko lang hehe

Pagtapos naman natin sa photobooth almost 7pm na din kaya nagpunta na tayong cinema para bumili snacks and pasok na din agad.

Sobrang para satin talaga yung mga ganung movie e no like yung nakakatawa lang. Nakakaiyak yung iba pero most of the scenes were laughtrip talaga. Alam mo yung tawa natin pareho. Na parang tayong dalawa lang nasa sinehan pero deadma maingay din naman sila hahahaha. Sabi mo pa sakin after natin manuod na may mga bago nanaman akong natutunan sa mga destiny destiny. Kasi more on ganun yung movie e. Sorry naman mahal alam mo namang ikaw din mismo nagpaniwala sakin sa mga destiny destiny na yan e hehe

And ang pinakahighlight para sakin sa gabing to hayyyyy my heart ❤️ sabi ko kasi sayo pagpunta palang natin na maganda nga sa part na to ng moa. Kasi yung mga ilaw. Kaya ayan buti nagawa ko din toooooo 🥹 napakamemorable na nga nung araw na to mas naging memorable pa lalo 🥹🥹 grabe na talaga. Tapos nasa gitna pa tayo. Like tayo lang yung nasa gitna naglalakad HAHAHAHA ang sweet kaya!!! Diba? HAHAHAHA ang sweet sakin mahal sorry na 🥹🥹 thankyouuuuuu mahal. Yung puso ko ang babaw talaga sa mga gantong moment grabe na yung saya ❤️

After nga nun kumain na tayoooo. Akala ko di pa tayo kakain e kasi sabi mo nanaman di mo alam kakainin. Buti may nakita tayoooo

Tapos pagkaorder ko di ko pa napansin yung number. Monthsary pa natin. Ikaw pa nakapansin nun HAHAHAHAHA mas lalong pinapamemorable talaga tong gabing to e. Di pa naman patapos pero sobrang saya ko lang talaga. Puro thankyou nga ako sayo kasi di ako makapaniwala 🥹 nandito ka na sa harap ko. Kasama ka. Nakikita kita. Sabi ko nga baka nananginip lang ako HAHAHAHA pero hindi sabi mo totoo to! HAHAHAAHHA and yessss totoo to. After natin kumain tamang kwentuhan lang. I just love din talaga making kwento pero gabi na kaya need na natin umuwi. HAHAHAHA naisip ko din kasi mahal baka pagod ka na kasi ang layo ng byinahe mo. Kaya ayun umuwi na tayo apartment.

Sa apartment nakasetup na talaga lahat HAHAHAHA nung nag aayos ka dun ko na tinake advantage na kunin yung gitara kasi isa yun sa plano ko hehe tamang kanta lang ako pero tinulugan mo na ko HAHAHAHAHA pero nakanta ko na naman yung gusto ko kantahin sayo kaya humiga na din ako. And ayuuuuuun. Bawal na dito yung ibang mga nangyari HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Seriuosly mahal, di ko alam bat ganun na lumuwas ka pa para damayan ako. Mahal sobrang laking bagay sakin ng ginawa mong to. Aasawahin mo na talaga ako no? HAHAHAHAA sobrang thankyou mahal koooooo. Sobrang saya ko sa araw na to. Sobrang di ko malilimutan lahat to. Wala akong masabi mahal kundi sobrang mahal na mahal kitaaaaaaaa! Wala ng iwanan to ha? Dumayo ka na e. HAHAHAHAHA sooooooo keka ku, kaku ka okay? Mahal na mahal kita palagi. Araw-araw ❤️

chucky s205 live reaction

ok so, technically 204 is still my favorite episode this season. (and i wish i live reacted to the other ones) but HOLY COW ep5 is a riDICULOUS wild ride. and this is probably the most BLASHPHEMOUS warning for many spoilers ahead!

First up Good Chucky is still a ridiculous concept and I don’t buy it. i’m on team Devon/Lexy. (esp since on a meta level Good Chucky loses the fun of evil Chucky.) But Don is hella creative cuz i’m sure we were all wondering whether or not it could be a thing and im living for that too.

But that Good Chucky vs Buff Chucky fight? HILARIOUS and EPIC!!!! even though i was watching with my eyes half closed cause i really dont like chucky’s looks lol.

Anyways then FUCKIN JENNIFER IS STILL ALIVE? The “and switch and switch and switch” thing actually makes sense now and this episode made Bride & Seed better lol.

OH AND FUCKIN MEG GETS KILLED in a highly unrealistic way but i can forgive it bc its Jennifer Tilly acting camp as hell. i swear if she (Jennifer the IRL actress) is actually a drag queen, i wouldnt be surprised.

AND THEN COMES THE MOST BLASHPHEMOUS PART OF THE EPISODE. yada yada Devon/Jake fighting about Chucky, Father Bryce is homophobic & makes Devon read the bible. AND DEVON CHUCKS THE BIBLE AT THE CROSS LMFAO LMFAO LMFAO. (I love how sassy Devon is this season. he’s got a bit more of a personality)

THEN FUCKIN JAKE, A NONRELIGIOUS GAY TEEN, AND NADINE, ANOTHER UNUSUAL TEEN, FUCKIN’ BAPTIZE THE GOOD CHUCKY DOLL IN THE CHAPEL. OMG i was shocked and laughing the entire time. i am WAITING for religious people to watch this part of the episode and be HORRIFIED. lolololololol.

AND THEN THE FUCKIN NUN SEES BUFF CHUCKY RISE AND ACCEPTS HIM AS JESUS. IF THAT DOESNT POKE FUN AT CHRISTIANS, I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS.

anyways now that were back to Glen & Tiffany.... fuck i really hope Glen is NOT taking Tiffany/Jennifer to Nica/Glenda/Chucky...

Between the kids doing essentially whats conversion therapy on scout/Good Chucky and then this fuckin’ baptism scene... Don you are doing the lords work in blashphemy. That is how you twist tropes and subvert expectations. And also answer “What Ifs” in canon. xDDD

Favorite color: Black, it’s peaceful, but I also love wine a lot (and darker colors in general XD with the exception of soft yellow that I like for my home)

Currently reading: nothing * hides * I don’t read much (I used to read more… I miss it), especially when I’m writing, because I have to choose what to give my time to.

Last song: “Play the part” by Two feeet

Last movie: Sea Beast I believe (bad memory lol) it was enjoyable

Savory/sweet/spicy: mmm well I hate spicy because it doesn’t agree with me at all… like you know the cliché of the white girl who puts salt on something and it’s too spicy? Yeah that me >.< >.> I think I will go with sweet, but I also enjoy savory a lot (and love to mix them a bit… Italians don’t kill me but I’m 100% on the pineapple on pizza side loool) So depends of time of day and mood I guess?

Currently working on: Ball and Chain fanfic if the fkldjmfqjfd would be so kind to freaking let me write it and STOP GROWING like damn it lol

Chapter 1 to 20:

- first off I’m gonna say that I know the real romanovs were horrible in many ways and yes, what happened to them was inhumane. That being said, I’m gonna judge the characters and situations as fiction, nothing beyond that

- Nastya is a horrible nickname. Couldn’t they have gone with Stasia?

- So far I really like the sibling dynamics

- Is the…spell ink…HOLOOOOOO????!!!!

- Winking was a sassy choice, but at what cost

- Let’s hope the fate of the doggies isn’t historically accurate

- It’s not fair to make me care so much about alexei! This poor kid

- I know romance is eminent but it still makes me a little uncomfy. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that zash (by the way dumb name) isn’t based in any figure in anastasia’s life at all

- Oh my gosh, as soon as they mentioned lice I knew where it was going. God, I hope I never have to shave my hair against my will

- The scene with nastya trying to signal the nuns had me on the edge of seat!

- Oh no… the rescue isn’t coming and it’s already breaking my heart

- Maria, don’t be dumb. You can’t tell Ivan

- Just like that, Ivan is dead

- Oh no. The new guy…

- I really wanna know what this doll will do, the suspense is killing me

- It’s July 15 already, we’re getting closer to the tragedy and I’m scared

- They are so excited thinking they are getting rescued…

- And so the bloodshed begins.

Chapter 21 to 40

- I can’t even imagine what kind of terror they went through in that basement. This hurts

- Wait a damn minute! We’re midway in the novel! What’s gonna happen? I mean, I guess that we are going with the famous theory that anastasia survived, but now I’m very invested!

- Alexei is alive too!

- Oh shit! Ghosts!

- Yep. They were historically accurate with the dogs. I hate it here

- I thought the whole ethereal form was so cool! Too bad it lasted half a second

- At least one doggie made it!

- I love a wise witch grandma trope, so obviously vira became my favorite character

- I knew the white army letters were fake!

- Please, I don’t want excuses to why zash shot nastya! I don’t want ulterior motive! Let him be a complex character who fucked up!

- This train scene is giving me big anastasia - the animated movie - vibes

- Holy hell! They shot zash!

- Poor horse, but desperate times I guess

- Don’t get me wrong, I love getting zash’s side of the story and yes the bolsheviks can step on a Lego, but it should be addressed that the Russian royal family weren’t saints. They did some pretty messed up stuff before they were taken. This feels very unbalanced

- That was the stupidest mindset for shooting a person, zash. What in the actual hell

- What the fuck! Dochkin died?

- Good thing everyone I like is in ghost form, more ghosts please

Music was coming from all over the backyard and in the house. Everyone from the BAU was dressed up in their spooky (or sexy...or cutest) best and was dancing the night away with champagne in their hands. Top 10 (11) Bi/Pan characters Part 2

5. Leliana (Dragon Age: Origins/Inquisition)

Leliana is my second favorite Dragon Age character (behind Verric if you were wondering) and the only time she wouldn’t be in my party in the first game is if I was doing an evil playthrough because I just couldn’t handle her constantly being disappointed in me. She is a former nun who used to seduce other nuns, and also a very talented spy. She opens up to your character in the first game pretty quickly and her back story is very interesting. She talks about being with both men and women in the games, and if you had her as a love interest in the first game, its possible for that to carry over to the third game, which is some impressive commitment. She’s also a rogue and a bard, which is pretty cool; and her questline in the fist game is one of my favorites.

4. Eliot Waugh (The Magicians)

My absolute favorite character in the show, Eliot is definitely much more on the homosexual side than being bi, but your sexuality being fluid is just as valid as it being defined. He is also played by a LGBTQ+ actor, and an absolutely gorgeous man, which is fantastic. At first Eliot seems like just a sassy queen, but as you watch the show and understand his character more, you see that he just has built up armor. You get to see a lot more of his character as the show progresses, and see him change and grow as a person. He is a loyal and deeply caring friend, intelligent, and impressively good at reading people. I can’t really get into more without spoiling the show, and I very highly recommend checking it out.

3. Oberyn Martell (Game of Thrones)

Oberyn is bi as fuck, and is completely unashamed of who he is and what he wants; and I love that about him. In a show full of backstabbing and betrayals Oberyn just very bluntly tells everyone what his motivations are. His unique position in his family gives him quite a lot of power without actually having much responsibility, which makes him able to say and do what he wants. I find a character that is just completely uncompromising in who they are, regardless of what society or his family say they should be incredibly fascinating. He’s also a super badass fighter, and master of poisons which you usually don’t see in masculine characters (the show even repeatedly says that “poisons are a woman’s weapon”, but he doesn’t give a fuck what people think, so that doesn’t bother him. (Spoilers to follow for Game of Thrones) I didn’t want to include any media that likes to kill off gay characters, but since the show is full of everyone dying all the time, I really don’t think this counts; I actually think the reason why he died was because he was moving the plot along to quickly.

2. Captain Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/Torchwood)

Captain Jack is the second time traveling character on this list, and I love how he’s from far enough in the future that sexuality has evolved to a point where it just doesn’t much seem to matter. He’s a very fun character in Doctor Who, and in Torchwood, but the tone of that show is darker and the characters reflect that. He is played by the very talented and apologetically gay John Barrowman, and he definitely seems to have fun playing the character. He’s charming, clever, and finds very creative ways to solve problems. He’s one of my favorite companions of the Doctor, and he’s in some of the best episodes of the series in my opinion.

1. John Constantine (DC comics)

Constantine is one of my favorite characters in the DC universe, and I’ve already talked about him on this blog before. He’s one of the most intelligent characters in DC, even outsmarting Batman once in a while, and has cheated several rulers of hell out of his soul. He’s also funny, sarcastic, and very cunning. He has done some terrible things, but he tries his damnedest to do better. I believe he’s been out the longest of any character on this list (He made a comment about having ex girlfriends and ex boyfriends in 1992) and you have seen him be with lots of different people in all the different media he’s in (Even having King Shark as an ex in a recent animated film). I love when (Small spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow) he and the previously mentioned Sara Lance get in an argument over who seduced who when they met. Matt Ryan does a fantastic job on the CW shows and he feels like they pulled him straight out of the comic books, it still bothers me that they made a Constantine film and then were like “Lets just make it a generic Keanu Reeves movie, why would we give Constantine the accent or personality from the comics, that would be casting from something other than the A list name hat.” I love Keanu Reeves, he just isn’t John Constantine.
