it's been exactly 4 weeks since I unrepressed and fully remembered the worst thing that's ever happened to me.

this month is the 5 year anniversary.

i know i'm mostly an amphibia blog. but i can't watch it anymore.

the last few weeks, i've found i can't watch a solid 2/3 of the series. i can't read most of my marcy journal. i can't read or write fanfiction that takes place any time after season one.

all because one of the plot lines, that isn't even similar to what happened to me at ALL, that i've never had issues with before, has become so insanely triggering that i get nauseous and dizzy and panicked whenever i watch it.

my favorite show in the world, the thing that's so special to me, and i just. can't engage with it on any real level without feeling like i'm coming apart again.

I will be providing excuses reasoning excuses below the poll, so if you feel like roasting me properly seeing my justifications, do that - or don't!

And remember, they're fictional characters, so it costs nothing to be normal about this and have fun

Excuses:

Zuki:

If you follow me then you know I'm an OG Zutara fan, but on the rare occasions I'm feeling Cannon Compliant, Zuki is my go too ship. This has all to do with the comics, where basically Zuko's only confidant is Suki and you get wild panels of them looking at each other like this:

I was devistated when Korra came out and it seemed like Sokka and Suki didn't last, but if the above is why, then I'll take it.

Stobin:

I am going to get so much flack for this one I think. BUT. Consider: The cannon ships in the show are generally not well written. I like Hopper/Joyce, I like Max/Lucas, but Nancy/Jonathan and especially Mike/Eleven do literally nothing for me, they are so bland. I do see the irony that one of the things that makes Stobin well written is because its one sided on Steve's part because Robin is gay. But their interactions are literally the reason to watch the show if you ask me. Pushing past these excuses though, I just kinda dig the ship. In my head its an open poly situation for certain, but sexuality is so wild and fluid and weird, and Gold Star status is gatekeepy at best anyway, so like, why the fuck not. I had a great aunt who had an open marriage with a gay man, (big beard behavior) and they had kids and did everything together. Its like... Platonic soulmates + if you will. And that's what I want for Stobin. Platonic soulmates + and a big ole polycule surrounding them. Or maybe its just my incoherent bisexual ass talking

(If I could put fan-art with the polycule in it I would but I wouldn't repost someones art like that... so I'm stuck with cannon images)

Zacknei:

No one has played this game. When people think Zack, they either ship Cloud or Aerith, and honestly I ship both those as well (though ClAerTi will always be my top for them). But I love Cissnei. She has big Sydney Sage energy for me, and all of Zack's emotional beats in the second half of the game surround her (...or cloud) not Aerith (just for the record). Also if you join all the fanclubs and work hard you get invited to your own fanclub and I'm pretty sure there's evidence that Cissnei is the president which is hilarious. I just love their interactions and was DEVASTATED at the end. Analytical Girl & PuppyDogHimbo is a beautiful ship dynamic. Also Rick Gomez will always be my Zack Fair VA. I hate the new guy so much (and its not his fault!! Sorry man!)

Aquarella:

So the section is really short. But my god. Cinderella and Aqua have the most chemistry of any character in that game series bar none. I'm including Riku and Sora in this. I'm including Roxas and Axel. Ok, not really this is not the hill I want to die on. BUT. At least in Birth By Sleep, this is the emotional high-point. Aqua taking her hand like a gentleman at a ball? The way Aqua saves Cinderella from getting run over by her demonic carriage??? The way she lovingly protects Cindy's body with hers? Did you see Prince whats his face doing any of that ? NO. And then. If Aqua were a guy everyone would've seen it when this game came out (but I guess gay people weren't invented until 2015 or whatever.

look how devastated Aqua is when Cinderella goes to Charming at the end. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THEM.

Sorayla:

I really do like Raylum, but this is a poll on my hot take rare-pairs, not cannon compliance. Let me start off by saying, no, I haven't seen this season yet, it only came out twelve hours ago whats wrong with you? This pair grew on me starting in Season 4 after the time skip. I think it goes along side my preoccupation with tough smart girls and their dumbass golden retriever himbos. They have a nice trajectory, and with Callum going a lil dark and edgy on us recently, I like their banter a lot. Especially in Season 4 I was surprised by them and I crave more adventures with the two of them alone. I don't think it will ever happen, but I like it none the less. They bring a certain... Sokka & Suki vibe to the party that I'm here for.

oh oh talking about your fics without requesting,,, 🥺👉👈 i love your small niche of “person on the lost light and EVERYONE gets jealous over them” fics, those r probably my favorite because I love the mental image of just Some Guy getting the LL to go crazy over them, and we don’t even know why !! maybe their Some Guy-ness is just so pathetically normal that it’s exactly what others crave akdndn (the one where various bots were fighting over lap time was friggin adorable, I love going back to read that)

lets b honest, the mechs on the lost light are so attention starved a normal ass dude could walk up in there with normal ass behavior and mannerisms and the entire crew would be like "i want you"

those are some of my favorites to write because being the center of romantic attention is an absolute guilty pleasure, im human i want attention just like any other and if youre on my blog thats probably what youre after too teehee

theyre also really easy to fill so its one of my fave types because its easier to do one paragraph reactions for each mech than to write a little blurb but thats just me

i imagine the lost light as one giant polycule that no one knows theyre in, everyone has weird feelings for each other and sexual tension is rampant its why their pairings are so fun bc theyre all so plausible

hi um this may be kinda a strange post but like. I have got to say something cause this is Not okay to just let it be happening. I bring it up specifically in the Animaniacs/PATB fan groups bc that's where I've noticed its most rampant but some of you adults don't know when and where things are appropriate, and are absolutely atrocious at keeping younger people safe. I understand there's gonna be an older audience due to the shows age but like. there's always gonna be new fans. not everything is for adults only, especially a damn children's show. I see too many 16 and under people interacting w adults here, while not inherently bad, its getting too a point where most adults are TOO comfortable with it. no one needs to be encouraging a 15 yr old to tag them in their pinky suavo thirst drawings, or their weird child angst or what ever, no one needs to be displaying that kind of stuff everywhere publicly any way, no matter what age. I understand needing outlets for....things but keep that in appropriate friend groups. im not saying cut out every adult ever, but be careful and set your boundaries.

and you the grown ass adults, you ALSO need to set boundaries. I know im gonna get too many "but im shy/a people pleaser!" from both groups, but its the only way to guarantee any healthy interactions.

The dadliness of COURSE it's the dadliness. The general idea of how loyal to a fault he is, that he dedicated his life to taking care of this boy he cared for so much, and his family growing in turn, I just cry. I have so many emotions about how underrated Alfred's angle in the whole found family thing is - PLUS I think he has so much potential for emotionally resonate backstory and parallels with Bruce because of that. Do not test me I will break into DC and MAKE THEM let me rewrite Alfred's backstory

Predictably from the last thing I hate it when he gets written as too stuck up to the point of fucking Bruce up even more as a child. Generally the idea of not allowing Bruce to be a kid when he's lost so much just makes me really sad, and I hate any timelines that involve Alfred OR Bruce hitting the batkids in any context :( listen I'm just a big baby I'm hear for camp not abusive family dynamics

Oh my god so many. Him and any of the batkids - all of them have excellent dynamics, Dickie literally calling Alfred his best friend is my favorite thing. And of course I love him and Bruce's dynamic, these fuckers have had 1 (one) friend (each other) for going on two decades they are a bizarre little pair. Pure same guy syndrome I love it. Also of course Martha Kent!!!! I <3 want <3 them <3 to <3 be <3 best <3 friends !!! They go on vacation together, they gossip about love triangles in the league, they share casserole recipes, they kick ass. Adore them.

As funny as it can be (That "I raised a man too soft hearted for this world, luckily my mother can't say the same" post always makes me HOWL) , I really hate the whole 'alfred likes guns' thing. IDK, at least to me he'd have similar hang ups about it as Bruce, his best friends and his child's parents were killed my gun violence, I just can't see him staying into them. I like him better with swords

Hmmmmm Happy Days are Here Again, especially with this montage from the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The end of this song gives me panic attacks in a good way <3 it's nostalgic and beautiful but also like. Very scary and urgent. Since I associate it with this scene it always gives me those panicked vibes of life getting increasingly more fucked up, like per say, starting as a butler for a loving idealic family, having them get murdered in front of their son, and ending with 9 vigilants on your hands

17th episode, Arthur has to stay with them because his house has fire damage. Maude gets jealous of him because Walter’s spending all his time with him. Walter and Arthur solve it by initiating a polycule. But one this that bugged me was what the hell happened to his daughter?!?! I’m just gonna assume he left his small child alone in a fire damaged house.

19th episode, I love Walter but when they make you hate him they R E A L L Y make you hate him. I had the unyielding urge to hit him.

The flashback episode is probably my fave because it’s SO cute?!?! Maude and Walter are so adorable and cuddly and Carol looks BEYOND adorable?! like this episode is the literal cutest. But it really just kinda is 20+ minutes of Maude finding out she had a thing for dominance.

I love Bill Macy as Walter and the casting was perfect but I legitimately love the chemistry between Bea Arthur and Conrad Bain and i think it was a huge missed opportunity that they never played a couple.

TOP 3 LOOKS SO FAR

One thing i really love about shows from the past is reoccurring outfits, like realistically someone isn’t gonna have a new outfit everyday plus if it’s a really cute one we get to see it again.

My favorite thing about shows from the past, especially Normal Lear shows, is that there could be episodes with just talking. There’s been multiple episodes that take place in one room with only 2 people and it’s not boring. 2 examples the episode in the hotel room and one of the last episodes was them getting ready for a party, it’s literally almost 30 minutes of them just talking but it’s still so enjoyable. In fact my faves are probably the ones where Maude and Walter just talk. Normal Lear is a fucking genius and he doesn’t get enough credit.

12ish but some of them overlap: BBCS/Sherlock Holmes/ACD (these are all different bc my bbcs fics are not the same as my own modern fem Sherlock Holmes adaptation are not the same as my ACD Holmes fic; Good Omens; Harry Potter/The Werewolf Draco Malfoy Cinematic Universe; Captive Prince; The Hobbit; Fleabag (it was a crossover with BBCS but Fleabag is the perspective character so it still counts as a separate fandom imo); Doctor Who; The Office; Parks and Rec; Broad City (one a piece for those last 5 but I AM going to write a Parks and Rec polycule fic for @gaykagome)

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

They're all Good Omens fics from the 2019 Summer of Good Omens! Susceptible to Summer, Fragments Shored Against My Ruin, Something So Magic, Enter Serpent, and Anything We Like

All of those have over 2k except the last one, but average engagement for me is like 400 kudos or so

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I try! It depends on what's going on with me. Sometimes I just don't have the energy, and I figure people would rather I spend my brain power on writing new fics than on writing replies to comments. Wish I had a fave button tho so I could let people know I read and reread comments, because I do!

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Oh I wrote this ficlet series called A Chemical Defect about John and Sherlock's relationship in s3 of BBCS, and it's WILDLY unpopular. People don't read my fic to cry sad tears I guess! John and Sherlock are having an affair in the story, and it ends with the implication that their relationship is unsustainable and that Mary knows about it anyway. I intended to come back to it after s4 and write a more optimistic ending but LOL! Didn't have the heart.

7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I know this answer is kinda up my own ass, but like. I think stories that feel true to life sort of feel like they end on a beginning if you know what I mean? You don't really consider a chapter of your life closed until you look back on it from the next? SO that said, I think I'd have to say that it's my big BBCS serial The Only One in the World. I spent 2 years writing it, and it ends with John retiring from medicine to solve crimes and write books full time.

Could also be my WDMCU (werewolf Draco Malfoy cinematic universe) series Moonrise, which starts with Draco isolated in his abusive mother's house, trying to cope with lycanthropy essentially alone and ends with him in love and surrounded by found family in a cozy cottage in Hogsmeade, having gotten some lycanthrope rights legislation passed after working at it for years and talking to Harry about whether they want to have kids. Oh man I feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about it

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I have written one crossover. It's BBCS/Fleabag, because me and @loudest-subtext-in-tv were laughing about how John seems like one of the horrible guys Fleabag sleeps with basically out of self loathing, so I wrote this fic to make Nattie laugh, and you should read it bc it's so good and so underrated.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really, but people don't seem to know that authors can read bookmark tags unless you private the bookmark, and someone once put in the bookmark tag on one of my fics 'writing was meh but it was okay.' Okay so why bookmark it then??

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Fuck yes! I'm not sure what 'what kind?' means? People fucking? Sloppy, silly, and awkward, with lots of laughing. I also really like writing afterglow scenes which are even sillier and gigglier and often involve one character cooking for another. Food as love language is a very distinct pattern of mine tbh

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of, but occasionally I'll write a post on here where I make some elaborate head canon, and I'll see people in the tags talking about how they want to write fic of it, and it makes me breathe fire out of my nose like a dragon like PLEASE DON'T. The WDMCU came out of a ficlet post I made on here like a year before I actually wrote the 60k series so like!!! Please don't do that!

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! To Russian and I believe Chinese. Not my entire oeuvre but a handful of BBCS and Good Omens fics

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I wrote a fic inspired by an RP I did with my gf right around when we met (actually now that I think about it, it's two fics), and I waaaaaaanna do a WDMCU collab with my beloved Sally @clytemenestras at some point if he has time bc he inspired me to even write werewolf draco with his original lesbian werewolf story

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

favorites are hard for me? I always think I'm currently doing my best writing lol so I'll say drarry

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don't post fics unless theyre finished, so I don't have any WIP up on AO3, but I did intend to continue with my fem Sherlock Holmes series, Your Many Tendencies. I just haven't been in a Holmes mood for a long time. Maybe I'll come back to it idk. This particular series is honestly very unpopular? People will just straight up say they don't read femslash, and it hurts a lot. This series feels really personal too, bc it's about a Black autistic nonbinary lesbian, so it does hurt my feelings that no one seems to care, yknow? I mean the people who read it are extremely kind and thoughtful in their engagement with it, but it has vastly less engagement than my m/m fic, and that's painful. It gets literally 1/10 the attention my fics usually get.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Almost all of my writing is romance, but I tend to write concurrently about recovery and found family, and I think I'm very good at doing that in a way that connects with my audience. I once had someone ask if they could use my words in their wedding vows, and I've had people tell me they started doing things with their spouse that my characters do with their partners in order to express love. I think about that all the time. My Impact. It makes me feel like I have a real duty to my audience yknow?

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

This question is hard for me like I've been writing so long and so much that I'm literally always happy with my final draft! It's always exactly to my taste, yknow? I suppose I could say that my fics tend not to be terribly plotty but so WHAT? That's beside the fuckn point for me. Plot who? I don't know Her. Also honestly like. Stories feel more True to me when they aren't ruthlessly devoted to plot bc like life isn't like that yknow?

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If you're not fluent in that language, get a beta who is!!!!! That said, I have written scraps of very simple dialogue in French using mostly Google Translate (sometimes I check w Sally bc he speaks French but I am usually too impatient), and I am perfectly well aware that I take my life in my hands each time!!! Also don't do that bullshit thing where it's in italics? That shit is weird and exoticizing. Just write it in quotation marks like normal dialogue.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

BBCS babey back in 2012. Ended a 5 year dry spell for me after I got my writing degree.

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Hmmmm I think it's probably gonna be the fic I'm working on now that I haven't posted yet, but I know it's called Names for a House, and here's a tiny bit of it

Stephen/Wong and Stephen/Clea. Also Stephen/Wong/Clea, but, like … *distant sobs from the rarepair abyss*. Also Stephen & Illyana, they are CUTE and DESERVE HAPPY THINGS okay. H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?

Proooobably books, because they have the most meat for me to sink my teeth in, and also I like that I get at least one Voice™ delivered with the fandom. But TV shows/series are a close second. I guess in most cases I need a bit of canon to get into it.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For RoL I’d really like to see more OT3 fics about Bev and Thomas actually having a metamour relationship (and explore it? Maybe?). Like they’re often just kind of … both dating Peter and have no relationship outside of that, and while I get why ppl got that vibe, I just don’t like it. And especially with the Grantlings … just let them talk to each other, damn it. Also it’s often in short-ish fics about Peter/Thomas, with Bev mentioned to the side, but Thomas is never off-page “with” Peter in Bev/Peter fics, and I’m guessing that’s a hangover from “don’t bash the canon LI”, but like. Just let my bi-poly ass live, lmao.

Physically disabled Characters actually being disabled and using accommodations and workarounds without it being … weird. No seriously, ya’ll, it’s getting embarrassing. Please google what an ergonomic keyboard is.

I love independent Atlantis fics, lol, SGA fandom, gimme. Also if someone has off-ao3 reccs, or any that are not tagged and that’s why I can’t find them … well, like I said. Gimme.

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

I don’t hate a lot of stuff … I guess I really flip my shit at the concept of Feeling-Each-Other’s-Pain Soulmates. Like I already don’t like Soulmates much, but that one’s just … squick squick squick.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

I really like canon characters getting switched with parallel universe version of themselves/going to a parallel timeline/AU. You can have so much fun with that, and the Implications always change with every fandom. It’s just great.

i know he’s done worse like in his drinking episode but i fucking despise him in this.

episode 9

Ok, let’s just get to the big thing about this episode. Why the hell did they have to ruin it? and i know it was a different time but why the fuck would they ruin it by having Arthur do THAT. I can understand her putting it aside and giving him another chance because they’ve been friend for so long but why the fuck would they make her go out again with him THE SAME NIGHT?!?!?!. Like I loved this episode until that part, it was SUPER out of left field and felt like the writers, wrote themselves into a corner and they didn’t know how to get out, Arthur isn’t my fave but he was just VERY out of character.

Like this was SOOOO cute?! why the hell did they have to ruin it and do Arthur so dirty?

Episode 12

Maude: You know they’re gonna be getting married soon, you know I’m in real estate, and you know they’re gonna need a place to live

Arthur: I’VE GOT IT I’VE GOT IT YOU’VE FOUND THEM A HOUSE :)

Maude:

Walter: I’ve got a surprise, close your eyes and turn around! :)

Maude: In this house we don’t raise our voice :)

Episode 13

This is a weird one, basically Walter got an electric organ for the wedding anniversary and everyone wants him dead

Then him and Maude get into a fight (as per usual) so he leaves the house

EXCEPT HE HITS A TREE AND IS JUST TOTALLY FINE?!

LIKE HE DOESN’T GO TO A HOSPITAL OR ANYTHING HE JUST WALKS BACK IN AND GOES RIGHT BACK TO THE ELECTRIC ORGAN?!

They stop arguing, Maude has constant headaches and Walter picked up the nervous habit of humming, they’re both clearly miserable

One thing i’m pleasantly surprised about it the continuity, the first 2 episodes dealt with Walter having a drinking problem and he hasn’t had any alcohol, shows usually have an episode and act like it didn’t happen.

They start to argue.

Walter acts like an ass.

They realize she doesn’t have a headache anymore and he stopped humming, they agree to argue regularly.

Episode 14

All you need to know is Walter acts like a cunt towards his employees

Between the was Walter acts with Arthur and the way Maude acts with Vivian, I’m just gonna assume the 4 of them have a polycule 

can we talk about how Vivian has an actual cape?!

While Walter isn’t my fave out of the 4 the fact that he can coexist with these people without committing homicide really is a testament to his strength
