Did I really make my point that badly or did you stop paying attention because the post was too long? Like can you point out where I said that someone who enjoys Russian novels is automatically an excellent critical thinker? Obviously someone can love a book to pieces and not know what the hell it actually means.
I meant that being well-equipped to think critically about fiction makes you better equipped to critically think about any kind of story. And politicians, companies, governments, and everyone else on this planet are telling stories, so a big part of understanding the world means understanding stories. Picking out subtext in a novel and subtext in a news story are not vastly different exercises, for example.
I was appalled by your assertion that the ability to understand fiction is unimportant because I know it's not a fundamentally different skill from critical thought about any other type of story. That's it. I want you to feel challenged and I want you to really think about & consider this idea.
AND you spelled Dostoevsky wrong. Like come on, there's autocorrect for a reason. And you can just google how to spell it.
only reading ya or only watching kids shows is tremendously destructive to your ability to create or understand fiction (as any extremely narrow fiction intake is) but also ultimately that is not a super important skill in life or indicative of any deficiency of character
