fallin’, fallin’, frozen, slowly.
synopsis: ice skater au featuring you and the tweels! a short birthday special I wanted to do for them
cw. none! as always, this is not proofread!! but also, reader wears hair clips in jade’s part (?) if you’re worried about that also jade calls the reader princess oopsies??
note. working on my requests I swear ^__^ also!! thank you to platinum jacket floyd for coming home I have all the birthday floyd cards now <33 (blatant floyd bias)
pairing: floyd leech x gn!reader / jade leech c gn!reader
Floyd Leech as the most snarky, smug captain of a hockey team. He’s prideful, almost too prideful you’d say. He’s loud and rowdy, just like the rest of his team, you hate him, you hate him to all hell.
You, on the other hand, are a figure skater, with the misfortune of sharing an ice rink with Floyd.
Whenever he watches you practise, he cheers you on, but in a way that makes you embarrassed, in a way that makes your face red, in a way that makes you just wish he was dead already.
To him, it’s friendly banter, to you, it’s mocking.
Before he knows it, he falls in love with you, it’s hard not to, with all the time you spend together. But really, you wouldn’t dream of dating him. So every time he confesses or asks you out on a date, you refuse. He takes it as a challenge.
A sharp turn, a twirl–the thin fabric of your sparkly costume does no favours to keep yourself warm. Though, on the contrary, you’ve never felt more alive. Your cheeks puff out, red, your body cutting through the cold wind as you land, the blades of your skates shaving off the ice into little shards when you halt to an abrupt stop. There’s clapping, whistling, and hollering in the distance, then, a familiar–annoying–shrill voice cheering for you.
There is no mistaking it, really, it was hard to do in the first place. Floyd Leech, the insufferable captain of the local hockey team. You scoff at the title though, it’s not like they’re very well known–and yet, they play with so much vigour every time you spare a glance at them.
You hate the hockey team, they’re loud, they’re rowdy and on the off chance that they show up to practise before you, they ruin the ice. Floyd is no exception, actually, he may be the one you hate most, chaotic. He’s the embodiment of chaos–the complete opposite to your composure.
You heaved a long sigh, still out of breath as you took a bow for the judges–your eyebrows furrowing when you were forced off the ice and met with those two mismatched eyes. His lanky body blocks your way, his arm leans against the exit.
“What do you want? You’re early today.” you ask, arms crossed and not even bothering to look him in the eyes. Yes, he was early today, usually, he’d come a couple minutes later, your practice wasn’t even close to finished yet, “you’ve come to annoy me, is that it?”
“No!” he insists quickly, for a moment, he almost seems hurt. That would never be the case, you know better–he laughs after his initial response and backtracks with that smug smile on his face. One that you would do anything to wipe off. “Well, yes! I always do that, y’know that already, shrimpy. That’s besides the point.”
“Then get to the point.”
“You’re always so mean!” he whines, how childish–you can only roll your eyes, with nothing left to say, you try to leave and slip out of the small free space by his side. He’s quick to block your way, it’s not hard, he’s so freakishly tall.
“Hey! I have something to say!”
“I gave you a chance to say it.” you dodge when he tries to hug you, nearly slipping on the ice. God, how embarrassing.
He plays the hero, he catches you just barely as you are falling. The air is knocked out of your lungs, your eyes find anywhere else to look at but him–he would be the last person that you would expect to help you. Yet, there you are, your cheeks red from the cold and your heart pounding in your eyes from the adrenaline. You look him in the eyes.
“Hah! You’re real pretty like that.” he pulls you up, perhaps with a little too much strength because he falls over too, your head lands on his chest. You can hear the gentle thump of his heart.
“Let's go on a date!” he says abruptly, “yeah, I just remembered what I wanted to say just now.”
“On a date?” you look up at him, his arm still wrapped around you. It’s warm now, yet, your cheeks are still red, not from the temperature, but from something else, something new, something you refuse to admit.
“Go to hell!” you shuffle back onto your feet, or, you try to, the ground is still slippery–you’re still in your skates. You fall back onto him.
He only laughs, “I’ll take that as a yes!”
Jade Leech as a figure skater, your upperclassman, someone who you admire. He’s always so graceful, elegant, calculated with the way he moves his body.
He practises with you frequently, only because you catch him when he is headed on the ice and soon, it becomes a friendship, then something that’s borderline partnership when he decides he wants to skate with you as a partner.
When you watch him practise, you’re always mesmerised, even more so when you are there with him, close to him, he’s almost within your grasp.
He’s cheeky, teases you. But it’s fine, you suppose, you get to see a side of him that very few get to see. Something sincere underneath that mask of his, that always cold wall that separates him and the rest of the world, save for a select few people.
Your heartbeat drowns it out. Everything, the judges watching the two of you intently, the clash of your skates against the ice, his breath against your skin–it’s warm, the only thing that keeps you in reality while you are in his arms dancing an elaborate waltz on ice. The music plays, you make a couple missteps, you can’t help it. He’s gorgeous.
The gentle sway of his body as he guides your amateurish steps into the routine. You really don’t even care that you are being graded on this performance nor the fact that you are embarrassing yourself. At least you think you are. He looks down at you with such a gentle smile, you nearly forget everything you’ve learnt.
Then the music ceases with one final beat, he stands beside you, his body in a deep bow–you can barely see him breathing. Meanwhile, you are trying to catch your breath frantically. Only now, do you see the distance in skill between the two of you. Not that you mind, it gives you more time to spend with him, look at him, at those fascinating eyes of his.
“Good work today.” he says, he’s already back into his regular running shoes, as you fumble back onto the ground outside the ice rink–clumsily, still in your godforsaken skates, his soothing voice snaps you out of your thoughts.
“What?” you look around, there’s no one else he could be referring to, still, you think you’ve done far from ‘good’, maybe mediocre or bad would be the right word to describe it, “me?”
“Yes, you.” he places his hand on your cheek, it’s still cold. You notice, but you don’t flinch, he’s always cold. He always seems distant, in another world, one that you can’t reach, one that keeps you so infatuated with him. Everything about him seems almost otherworldly. He carries himself with such refined movements.
He ruffles your hair, undoing all the knots and hair clips that you put in earlier. The accessories fall out of place and onto the floor. He laughs, his usually gentle–yet, never over the top smile is broken, he seems human again, if not, only just for a fleeting moment.
“Hey!” you chase after him as he runs away from you, kicking away all your hair clips all over the place. Of course, you don’t catch him, you fall face flat onto the floor when the blades of your skates slip.
“Oh my.” he’s still laughing, hysterically–or, as hysteric as he can get. He helps you up, almost like a prince would a princess and you swear your heart skips a beat. Perhaps he notices too, because he kisses the back of your hand.
“Are you okay, my princess?”
“Oh, shut up!” you push him away, despite enjoying the moment, a part of you doesn’t want to admit it. But you know that he knows, he knows every little detail about you.
“Now, now, that isn’t any way to speak to an upperclassman.” he brings himself closer to you, closer, and closer–close enough to give you a kiss on the lips. Of course, he doesn’t, he sweeps you off your feet and holds you in place.
You squeeze your eyes shut, there’s something faint on your cheek, it lingers for quite a while–his lips.
“Now you’ve done it!” before you know it, you are chasing him again, falling–head over heels again.

The orb has spoken, It's time for me to speculate some more because I need to get my thoughts out.
Many have suggested the Orb is talking about Flameheart himself here... But I can't help but wonder... From the last batch and then this one... I have my doubts... What would Flameheart have to be mournfully about?
Let's entertain this for a moment because why not. It is indeed possible that Flameheart's time in the Sea of the Damned manifested his old estate... But why would he need to be collected via horse and coach? His physical form has been in the living world all this time, so surely he'd just manifest himself like any other time...
Now, the wreck the Reapers were reassembling has vanished, but we all know where that is going... However, so has the Burning blade (the sword). With Tasha supposedly now cured, according to her and Ramsey the Reapers have apparently stolen that too but why? To give to Flameheart? Probably, or maybe not, as it was done so quietly in the night, without much fanfare and the Reapers usually like to make a huge scene... (I have another theory there but that isn't what this I about right now). All of this is in keeping with the return of Flameheart, including Olga's cards.
What isn't lining up as of late is the Orb... As if it's trying to tell us something else... And there's someone else lived on an estate, possibly the very same one the Orb is referring to, who used that very same study... someone who perhaps was still dealing with grief... and was about to embark on a new life... someone we know and is very much tied to Flameheart and that glass bauble.
"...Having travelled full circles in every possible direction, Father eventually settled down on this magnificent estate, in which a small candlelit corner of the most private room I now write.
Tomorrow I will not be here.
I arranged to vanish over the horizon to retrieve myself." - Tales from the Sea of Thieves (aka Junior's journal, the very first page)
From what I understood, Junior spent the night in that room and vanished to the docks and his newly bought ship in the early hours to set sail... And while he was no doubt excited to start his new life, there was probably undoubtedly some grief... Of the things he was leaving behind, and no doubt thoughts of his father crept into his head... Of the stories, of the legends... But soon enough he'd get to see it all for himself.
While Flameheart could have done exactly the same thing when he took back off to Sea, it seems improbable given we know he came and went with decreasing regularity on his adventures while Junior was growing up, until one day he never returned and news of Flameheart's death eventually reached back home.
So unless Rare has done a lot more retconning recently than we thought... Including changing Flameheart's backstory...
I can't help but still feel the Orb is talking about Junior here... (Unless it's talking about the time Flameheart decided to deck a couple of merchants that wanted to confiscate his house, but he was pretty much broke back then so I find it unlikely lmao.)
Also, the fact Junior is missing from his usual spot in the latest trailer... Maybe it's just an oopsie on Rare's part... But they showed us the hideout for a reason., yes to show off Flameheart obviously, but I think there's a hidden message there. Maybe they just moved him for the trailer, maybe he has a new spot... But time will tell I suppose, let's see what this ornament has to say next week.
I also could just be waffling because Junior is the only character in the whole game that has caught my interest so my theories naturally have a bias I suppose, lmao. But I like discussing lore in games, even if it is just with myself.
Either way, food for thought.
Again, If you read this, props to you and thank you.
I'm am literally just brain-vomiting theories at this point, at least the semi-concrete ones because they need an out... And maybe it'll get me writing again, lmao, at least my will to draw is slowly returning.
#sea of thieves#flameheart#flameheart jr#the servant of flame#I could also be reading way to much into this and it's all a metaphor but hey#it's fun to speculate

Anna. Give it to me straight. As an Otome loving gal, out of 10 rate your top 3 Ikemen games and a brief description of WHY you’d recommend them? I see you talking about Ikemen and I wanna get into it but I don’t know yet.
Ok so, this is the order I started playing them because in truth, all of the Ikemen games are good in my opinion.
❤️ IKEMEN SENGOKU.
This was, I believe, my first ever otome!! I actually started playing it because I saw that the voice actor for one of my top anime husbands, Mikaela Hyakuya, was in this game so I was SOLD, I just went in blindly.
I never turned back though.
In this game, through a freak accident the MC ends up going back in time to the Sengoku era and meets the actual warlords such as Oda Nobunaga, Mitsuhide Akechi and many others. She is trying to find a way to go back home and not fall in love with any of the warlords. Now, in case you don't know, the Sengoku era was the era in which Japan was united which meant that there was a lot of war and battling, which gives this game a bit of edge. All of the characters have this epic air to them, everything they do is for the greater good but then the MC shows up and just fucks it all up with her presence jahahaah
Personally, I'd give it a 7/10. Solid game but not quite as good as some other games. There is also a bonus to learn a little bit about Japanese history lmao!!
❤️ IKEMEN VAMPIRE.
Ah, here we are, to my personal favorite.
I'm biased, I'm a sucker for vampires, okay? I also find it so hilarious how this game takes some of the most famous people in history and turns them into cute anime boys which you can date. Seriously, just what game allows you to date Napoleon Bonaparte or Mozart?? Well, it's this one!! Here, the MC follows a mysterious man, Comte, through a door that sends her back in time to 19th century France. That's not all though!! She is stuck in a mansion full of these historical figures, who all happened to be hot vampires! They're all there for a reason and it's bloody amazing.
Can you tell that I love this game? Because I fucking love this game.
In my objective opinion, it's either 8.5ish/10, maybe even 9/10. I'm not good at rating, my apologies. But since I'm biased, I'll give it 10/10. I'm in love, leave me alone.
❤️ IKEMEN PRINCE.
This might just be the best game yet. The writing is very good here, it feels as though the developers keep pouring more and more love into each new game that comes out.
In this game, the MC lives in the fictional kingdom of Rhodolite. Whenever the ruler dies, a maiden with a fair and pure heart is selected to become "Belle", who has the duty of selecting the next ruler of the nation. She must become close with all of the candidates and understand them well in order to pick the right ruler. The catch?
Once the king is selected, Belle is not allowed to have any contact with the new king. Bummer, am I right?
There's a plethora of princes to choose from, even some from opposing kingdoms. My own bias is creeping in oopsie, but Gilbert is a treat. So is Kieth tbh. The world feels very real and fleshed out, there's always SOMETHING happening in the background which makes this game feel more alive, if that makes sense.
Dare I say, this game is a 10/10.
✨ PRO TIP! - For all of these games, if a character has different colored eyes, he's most likely a yandere.

I intended to do a quick no reference study of diverse body types to see where I'm at before I do a full reference figure study and it turned into my trans headcanons of some of the pokemon boys, oopsies :x
Anyway, headcanons under the cut :)
Leon
I think he rarely binds. He has a hard time finding a binder that gets the level of flatness he desires and due to the work he does, he doesn't even try double binding or layering tight shirts. So instead, he just wears a comfortable sports bra. He intends to get top surgery, but right now he's comfortable where he's at. That and he's so busy he doesn't have time to take off for recovery. I think he's at least 2 or 3 years on T right now.
Kofu
His egg cracked pretty late in life. He was 53, and currently he's 67. While he doesn't think it's too late to transition, he is a little scared to commit to it. The only thing he's really committed to so far is taking his T shots, which he started when he was 55. He started balding pretty fast so he just opted to completely shave his head. When the facial hair started coming in, that's when he really started loving himself.
Gordie
He's known who he was since he was little, he was just too unsure of how to express his feelings. As of right now, he is not on T and has no plans of top or bottom surgery just yet, but has thought extensively about it. While he doesn't exactly like his body, he is content with it. He does bind on the days he feels particularly crappy though. Otherwise, he just layers his clothes or wears a jacket over top. When amongst close friends, he'll swim topless confidently and comfortably.
Kabu
He came out publicly on his second year of being a Galar gym leader. On live TV. As a way of defying and cutting his family off. He stepped onto the field sporting a new haircut, very short as he knew his parents wouldn't approve. As he had no access to safe binders at the time, he wore layered shirts and a too small bra underneath, which admittedly was unsafe and kind of really hurt. When the announcer spoke his chosen name like he asked, he finally felt like himself. I think he's been on T for a while now, about 20 or so years. He's had top surgery, too, and proudly shows his scars. Both he and Leon are very open and supportive of multiple trans movements in the Galar region, often doing joint charity events to raise money. He also takes part in donating large portions to charities based in Hoenn.
I have a Kabu bias, I love him, he is my gender envy, don't fucking look at me djsbsj

what’s the skipper and squall lore
This is difficult to answer without Wade (Agent 4), so sorry if you don’t care about him but he’s included lmao
Skipper is a funny 3 who I more or less characterize as this absolute MENACE to the octarians. Fucking boogeyman type of entity, someone who showed up and started slaughtering the infantry en masse right
Squall is significantly more complicated. On top of octarian soldiers being genetically enhanced, he (and by extension his siblings but dw about them yet) were further enhanced and unethically experimented on further by this crackpot geneticist. Experimental super soldier among experimental super soldiers but I won’t get too hard into that
Squall and Skipper actually have virtually zero involvement with one another until Wade shows up, though!
Wade is fucking unapologetically a horrendously annoying and obnoxious person. But he’s pretty pacifistic throughout his campaign, dealing with him is actually one of the first big boy tasks Squall and his squad are assigned to. They don’t even get their asses handed to them so much as so outfoxed that Squall has a category 9 prettyboy bootboy bitchfit and defects from the military with the SOLE purpose of tracking Wade down to fix his damaged ass pride by beating his ass. This is actually what results in him encountering Skipper and winding up in the metro
(I know OE/Splatoon 2 story modes canonically happen at the same time, but I set Octo Expansion as happening slightly later for the Bit. You understand)
From that point he obviously Forgets this slight and Octo Expansion goes on as expected. Up until the sanitized agent 3 fight. My entire reasoning for Squall managing what no other test subject has successfully managed is purely because of how supernaturally freakishly strong he is from genetic tampering and rigorous training, so Skipper posing any type of challenge to him is like a clash of the titans for me. And the only reason he manages to nonlethally stop Skipper is because he lobs her arm off. (Which I imagine is normally not super serious for cephalopods, but uhhhh 3rd degree chemical burns might hinder regeneration. Oopsie <3)
From that point it’s like. Traumabonding mixed with mutual guilt? Squall actually makes Skipper think about her octarian bias and kind of feels bad about all the killing and fighting (probably not for the right reasons but yk, white woman moment), Squall kind of feels bad for permanently disabling her, but there’s also a lot of mutual respect for each other just based on the “you fight good” front. And of course, just the overall experience you get from going through an insanely fucked up situation that no one else can really relate to. Results are very predictable
It took me a really long time to find this meme I made it like 2 months ago
Anyway uhhh this is mostly incoherent and a really brief summation of things. And most of it predates Side Order. Because My Assumption was memcakes restore someone’s memory, so collecting them all probably means you’re not an amnesiac anymore right? Yeah I’m still working on that. Because Squall wanting to makeout with and also murder Wade is a huge hallmark of That relationship and a major plot catalyst which doesn’t really work if he doesn’t remember fuck of shit
Like make no mistake the Skipper/Squall dynamic is great but it’s crabsolutely not the star of the show, that goes to this fucking guy
And how much Squall hates him
They also all 3 make out sloppy style
I might drop individual lore posts highlighting each individual agents pasts and shit that might be a good idea lmao. But for now you get the lore crumbs that have been rattling around my empty skull and unfortunate friends Discord servers privately for like 3 years god bless
#splatoon#asks#answered#i hope u enjoy this because I feel like an insane person for writing it#my greatest secret is the 10 other splatoon ocs I have in my pocket I haven’t even posted about

you’re so sweet, i meant on tumblr but i’ve heard of those meet ups. my sister tried to get me to take her to one once. there’s a lot of kpop stories about my sister, i never really liked it besides older groups until she showed me txt and ateez.
-🍁
Oh, oopsie- pretend I said none of that 🙈. If you meant on here I think your best bet is to just follow a bunch of blogs and send asks like you do with me. Or just reblog/interact with content
Ahh you like ateez too? Who’s your ateez bias?

Last song I listened to: the other day I was listening to Yves Tumor's latest album again. A highlight of 2023 for sure.
Favorite color: tbh I like all colors, but I do gravitate to the ones that feel like spring. I think I do have a bias for green, especially olive/mossy/earthy tones and the color of a fresh leaf in April
Last movie/show: I rewatched The Bear with my partner (I really wanted to see that Christmas episode again lmfao). Last movie I watched was the Muppet Christmas Carol lol
Relationship status: long-term thing :3
Last thing I googled: hours for a restaurant heehee
Current obsession: nothing.............. 😵💫 Well, idk there's some people I want to be closer with, and I keep ruminating on how my awkward ass will do that.
I tagggggg YOU 🫵🫶

Working on a request at the moment, I should have it done tomorrow at some point :3 (hopefully it hasn’t been sitting there in my inbox for too long, sorry if it has lol) I just realized how wordy I am with my favorite characters while writing it, so just know that I am trying to not show my bias, but oopsies if it still comes across that way. I will get better at that the more I do these xD

Tags from @a-streetcar-named-fitzwilliams who makes some good points. I hadn’t even thought about the Rowling thing.
For reference, I was mostly thinking of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Trek, and Artemis Fowl when I made it. (And also Muppets and what my sister has told me about the Star Wars EU).
Word of god landed where it is because of Buffy and Faith; for those who have never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in season 3 Buffy has a very lesbian coded relationship with Faith. When the creator, Joss Whedon (yeah that guy), first found out fans were shipping them, he assumed people were fetishizing his characters and was annoyed. He disavowed the ship, and then somebody sent him a link to a bunch of analysis of the characters’ relationship. After reading a few essays he realized he was wrong, that there was a lot there in canon he just hadn’t noticed, and publicly admitted that. Forever disproving that “Word of God” was the end all be all of canon. To me at least.
I separated out comics and novelizations because I should have used more words and been more specific. Oopsie. I was thinking comics like the continuation comics for Buffy and Avatar. Both were made with input from the show runners/creators, but varying amounts of input from the rest of the creative teams. As such mileage varies when it comes to quality/canon compliance. On the other hand, novelizations are often written by a completely separate third party who is doing their best to be as true to canon as possible. Sometimes, because they’re written with respecting canon in mind, they feel more canon-y to me than the comics do, but that’s more a gut feeling thing than a logic thing. In both cases, they’re easier for the studios to ignore (like Disney throwing out the Star Wars EU to make room for the sequels).
For the most part, everything is arranged based off how much input the original creative team (not just the original creator) has in the new addition. Admittedly, I use that definition because my own bias is leaking in. My favorite writers for both Buffy and Avatar are not the main creators, and some of the extended universe stuff just doesn’t carry the spark that the original canon did for me. Turns out, canon is one of those words that gets harder to define the more you try. I made this to spark a dialogue with my sister, but she was busy, so now I’m throwing it at random internet strangers.
Just saw a post that reminded me of this thing I made during the pandemic (ignore that white splotch in the top left, had to cover my name). I kinda want to hear other people’s thoughts on the subject, assuming that the pyramid base is pure canon, and the top is not canon at all, would you agree with where I’ve put everything? Image description under the cut.
Picture of a triangle that is divided into six sections, the triangle outline is rainbow, and the inside has a blue to white gradient with the blue being on the bottom. To the left of the triangle it says Pyramid of Canon, and to the right there are arrows clarifying that the bottom is most canon while the top is the least. Listed in the topmost section (or the least canon section) are “headcanons, fan fiction, and controversial theories”, the word theories is misspelled. The second section from the top reads “fanon that has been disproven” and “widely accepted fix-it’s for bad endings”. The third section says “novelization”, “word of god”, and “theory the entire fan base accepts and canon doesn’t disprove”. In the fourth section there are “reboots”, “comics based on the original”, and “deleted scenes”. In the fifth section: “spin offs”, and “Sequels made by a different creative team”. Finally at the pyramid’s base, the most canon section, reads “the original work”, and “sequels made by the same creative team”.

Tutorial for my OFMD Breakup™/Bird Robe
Disclaimer: I’m not a professional sewer or costumer, so any weird methods of execution are entirely due to my own (mis)adventures in sewing. Also all of the links for the fabric and research are in the replies bc I have no idea if tumblr is still ~suppressing~ posts with links.
The basic design for my Breakup Robe™ was based on heathervanderstitch and hannahgreenecostumes‘s instagram posts (two of the costume designers on OFMD) who said that their bird robe was a modified 1940′s kimono pattern with a box pleat in the back to give more movement at the bottom without being too baggy at the top. So I took that info and essentially worked backwards by comparing screenshots from the show and a bunch of online kimono patterns. (The most helpful ones were Ralph Pink’s free Satchi kimono pattern and The Tailoress’s Giselle Kimono).
--- 🦜 ---
I found a helpful starting place for pattern piece sizes was a twitter post from another fan (fiftyfathomkinit), however I ended up making my own modifications because I found her drafting slightly confusing (she includes armhole cutouts in her back panel which i could never figure out). I also adjusted the sizing to better fit my own measurements and I added an extra seam on the sleeves so one side of the pattern wouldn’t be upside down.
On a personal note, don’t be afraid of making mistakes! I didn’t realize I needed to adjust the pattern measurements until after I’d started making the lining - which was an oopsie on my part and could have saved me a little bit of money on fabric for my lining. You can get around this error by making a mockup in cheap fabric, or you can do it like me and start off with larger pieces and make them smaller as you adjust to your own fit.
Speaking of the lining, the original robe has a fuchsia dupioni (coarse) silk lining and a hand dyed, block printed 100% cotton velvet outer shell. I found the velvet from (I believe) the same seller on Etsy. It’s a little pricey, but they also have a regular cotton version for those who want a cheaper option.
For the lining, I wanted silk to match the original, bc it breathes better than polyester satin, and I believe it’s longer lasting. But I wanted something softer than the dupioni, so I went with... literally the smoothest silk in the closest colour I could find at a local fabric store. (I literally just rubbed my fingers against every fuchsia silk they had). But you can go with whatever lining you’ll be most comfortable with (satin, cotton, etc).
I got tassels from that same fabric store and the thread and orange bias tape from Fabricland, but you can make your own tassels with yarn if you prefer.
I bought 5 yards of the bird velvet (bc they don’t do half yards) and 4.5 metres (5 yards) of the silk. I ended up using most of the silk and about 4.5 yards of the velvet.
--- 🦜 ---
I started by making my own patterns from some super cheap brown wrapping paper with gridlines on the back, which I got from the dollar store. You could also probably just measure and cut your fabric directly, but having paper patterns made me feel better.
Your own measurements will vary (I’m 5′7″ and 120 lbs), but I wanted it to be quite oversized, with the sleeve shoulder seam hitting a little ways down my arm, and the overall length sitting just above my ankles, the same way it does in the show robe.
You can see in the above graphic I have a neck opening cut into the front panel that ends halfway down - this is how long I’m also making my collar. (Pro tip - cut the collar longer than you think you’ll need). Meanwhile, the sleeves have an 11″ x 1″ diagonal cut on the sides that will be attached to the main body of the robe, as used in a lot of kimonos.
Here are my pieces cut out (minus the sleeve diagonal bc I forgot to do it while I was cutting everything - but that was a very easy error to correct later):
--- 🦜 ---
For the inverted box pleat, based on screenshots and insta posts, I went with 3″ on either side of the centre point and guestimated that it ended a little lower than the armpit. So mine ended about 10″-11″ from the top of the back panel.
I basted some stitches along the three points (centre back, 3″ to the right and 3″ to left, so it was easier to keep both sides equal). Then I pulled the two sides of the fabric together so they met in the middle at the centre point of the back panel. I pinned them together, stitched the sides together by hand with a ladder stitch, and then machine stitched a line across the top of the panel at my ½” seam allowance.
I then machine stitched the sides together down the middle with a really small zigzag stitch to make sure it was extra secure.
I cut a 1″ x 7″ inch neck dip after doing the box pleat, which is probably not the proper way to do it, but it worked out for me!
I didn’t take a picture of it, but this graphic is an approximation of how you’d go about it:
--- 🦜 ---
To sew the actual robe, it requires very simple straight line sewing to connect all these rectangles.
Firstly, you’ll want to attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (right sides together).
Next, you’ll want to sew across the top of the sleeve panels (right sides together). Make sure you’re matching the diagonal sleeve indents so that when you open up the sleeve panels, it looks like this:
Then you’ll open up your robe body so the right side is facing up:
You’ll then attach the sewn sleeves to the front panels (right sides together), ensuring you’re matching the sleeve seam with the shoulder seam. Make sure you’re sewing the side of the sleeves with the diagonal cutout so when the garment is flipped right side out, the diagonal is next to your body. You’ll sew from the marked line to the marked line.
Next, you’ll want to sew the sides of the robe together to close it. However, this was a tricky part for me, because I had tried to sew the body and sleeves at the same time when I was doing my lining, but the armpits ended up bunched and slightly twisted around. So I tried getting around this issue by stopping about 1″ from the armpits, leaving a gap, while sewing the sides together. (You’ll close this gap at the very end of your project).
For the collar, attach both pieces together at one end, right sides together, to ensure the pattern isn’t upside down on one side. Once done, the right sides of the attached fabric should look like this:
Then, take the collar and fold lengthwise so the right sides are together. Sew a straight line across the two bottom ends. Then, flip the collar inside out so the wrong sides of the fabric are together and the bottom edges are nicely hemmed. It should look (more or less) like this:
(Ignore the weird cuts on the bottom right and left hand corners - this was my first attempt with a collar that I realized was too short. [Pro tip - cut the collar pieces way longer than you’ll think you’ll need!] I forgot to take a pic of my second attempt, but you get the general idea of what it’s supposed to look like).
For the bias tape, this is probably not the proper way to go about it, but it was the only way my CFS brain could figure it out and it worked for me! (As the disclaimer said, I’m not a professional sewer - I’m more concerned with whether something works than whether it’s the 100% professional method of execution).
So, take your bias tape, open it up, and pin one edge against the raw edge of your collar. Sew these together a little bit lower than your seam allowance (1). Then you’ll want to fold the bias tape up so both edges are facing the sewn edge of your collar. Then pin and sew your collar, bias tape side down, to your robe (2). (When doing so, make sure to match the seam at the back of the neck on the collar with the middle of the back panel).
This way, when you attach the collar using your seam allowance, you’ll still be able to see a small amount of the bias tape peaking through around the collar when it lays flat against you, like so:
For the bias tape on the sleeves, I attached one edge of the bias tape to the right side of the fabric, stopping an inch past the 9″ marking on both sides of the sleeve. (I sewed this about 1/4″ from the edge).
I then flipped each sleeve inside out (right sides together) and sewed it together, stopping about 1/2″-1″ away from the armpit (as previously mentioned) and at the 9″ measurement on the opposite side. For the side with the bias tap, I flipped the bottom part of the tape over onto the wrong side of the fabric and sewed it down as I was sewing the entire sleeve.
At this point, if you flip the entire robe inside out so the right side is facing outwards, it should look like this:
--- 🦜 ---
For the lining, follow the same steps as you did for the velvet (minus the collar). But when you do the box pleat, make sure the inverted side (the side you pull together) is on the wrong side of the fabric.
Once the lining is fully constructed, you’ll want to attach the lining to the velvet, right sides to right sides, along the collar and centre front.
Once you’ve sewn the lining and velvet together, flip your robe inside out so both right sides are showing.
As you can probably see in the photo, I already started the next step. Which is hemming the bottom of the robe. I’d recommend doing so while it’s hanging (either on a hanger, dress form, or another person), to ensure you don’t have any weird spots where the lining is pulling up on the velvet. I attached the lining and velvet by hand stitching.
For the sleeves, I folded the bias tape down onto the wrong side of the fabric, folded the lining under itself to make a nice little hem, and sewed both together. I did so by hand with a really simple stitch. (As with the bottom hem, make sure you’re only picking up the bias tape and lining so you don’t poke through to the other side).
Then for the final touch - the tassels! Mine came with a large loop that I had to remove. I cut it off and then encased the shorn ends in hot glue to ensure the entire thing didn’t somehow unravel.
I let the glue harden and then attached the tassels by hand to the corners of the sleeves and collar.
Now we’ll finally close those ~1″ gaps under the armpits. I did this with a very simple hand stitch, making sure I grabbed a bit of fabric from each side of the fold and pulled the thread taught.
--- 🦜 ---
And voila, you should now be the proud owner of the infamous breakup/bird/wrap robe.
--- 🦜 ---
And that’s it! Hopefully this all makes sense and if anyone has any questions either send me an ask or add a reply to this post and I’ll do my best to answer!
On one final note, not to be That Person™, but this took quite a lot of work (both the robe and this post) and I’m a chronically ill freelancer who’s income was hit hard by COVID. So if anyone wants to throw some change at my KO-FI if you found this helpful, I’d be very much appreciated.
#sewing#our flag means death#text post#ofmd#ofmd costuming#ofmd cosplay#ofmd tutorial#long post#banyan robe#mine [wb]#bird banyan#seriously this post is quite long but i wanted to be thorough so I can save at least one person the headache i've been dealing with#namely the headache of trying to figure this whole thing out#also if anyone's curious the colour of this robe changes drastically depending on how it's photographed#which is why it looks red in some pictures and more pink in others#it's the exact same roll of fabric and it's WILD

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID THE TRUTH.
I admit that i enjoyed act 3 but it feels like really rushed i have so much complain with that.
The build up until act 2 was so good it give us so much premise but the final blow si meh. Sorry that i want to share thing long rant with you
1. Why the final talk is with yae, no offense to her but we need ei to explain not to mention she witness khaenriah downfall so she can give us more information, i feel like they do it for the plot armor so they can just keep dragging this
2. So many things that quite inconsistant, the shogun is show no mercy to anyone that even did a little thing outside what she think its right, how come she can still have a talk with signora, when sara is falling like that, and also there is no clarification about sara right now.
The traveler was so done at first they refuse to help thoma and ayaka at the beginning. But they seem so happy and forget everything how come they are not RAGE ( okay maybe this is to bias and personal) when this nation provide nothing about our siblings information and also why they are not mention anything about their problem in ei stroy quest. Its nonsense! She is right in front of youu, ask about your siblings, ask about khaenriah, ask about ukmown god!!. How come they can just forget like that. Also mihoyo really waste the potential about twin things i thing ei will give us so much help bcs of the sympathy that we both rn lost our twin but noooo.
3. Kokomi seem lost some brain cell, she make a very succesfull grand intro but she become meh in act 3, how come a great strategist like her let the sus sponsorship slip just bcs they are desperate, not to mention her screen time is really small and her role seem so unsignificant and it feels lile she is a plain npc.
4. The awesome world quest that we have done doesnt get any mention at all! Inazuma owe us so much with cleansing sakura, thunder sakura, tatarigami, obarashi quest. It has so much potential that yae or ei or anyone else aknowledge what traveler has been done but nooo.
cracks knuckles... i suppose it's time for my promised dissertation. interestingly enough, you touched on a lot of the main issues i had with chapter III.
i think that if i had to pin the main issue, it's a lack of overall cohesiveness? we were jumping all over the place without the chance to ever flesh things out. inazuma is a smaller cast, but i feel like we didn't get to see any of them shine. since i'm most interested in the genshin characters, i'll break down my problems by going over everyone and their (lack) of impact on the story.
was ayaka not questioned or placed under suspicion for being close to thoma before his escape? i wanted to see her broken up over her duties as they relate to the yashiro commission, paired with having someone she genuinely cares about in danger. it would've been an interesting struggle if she was forced to choose one or the other. instead she just kinda took a back seat.
speaking of thoma, i don't even have anything to say, because he just... was there? for .0001 seconds. said "lol this sucks ig" and that's about it. i know we're going to get a story for him in the future since he's a 5* but i'm not getting my hopes up 😭 then in the raiden shogun's character story, man is peachy keen! be upset with the raiden shogun! have some inner conflict! even if it's just using loaded language because he's under surveillance for going against the raiden shogun, that'd be so cool. saying something like,
"Traveler, what's with that expression? Oh please, there's nothing to worry about. We're under the Statue of the Omnipresent God's protection. Nothing bad has ever happened here." *wink*
i also don't know what to say about gorou. he was... there....... i think. what is he fighting for? what are the stakes for him? what makes him place so much trust into kokomi? i'm out of things to say about him because i don't remember anything he did or said.
kokomi... oh kokomi... i was so hyped. so excited. i thought that maybe we could see a foil to the raiden shogun. that she'd have a moment where she's forced to realize, just like her opponent, sacrifices must be made that will hurt people who will never understand why she made them. or maybe something to show her military prowess. but instead she just accepts a mysterious patron's help (?), sees her people aging like the grateful dead from JJBA, and goes oh well. that sucks. what can ya do. oh bye traveler i guess, good luck with that. ????????????? HUH... similar case to thoma where she's gonna get a character story but like. she won't be the leader of the resistance anymore. that was her whole shtick. they took her shtick away. also she forced me to interact with more NPCs whose names i've already forgotten so i'm tilted about that still.
KUJOU SARA... AN INJUSTICE. A DISGRACE. a slap to my woman loving face. the build up was there. yae miko's comments about sara probably knowing the tenryou commission is involved in shady dealings, but is choosing not to think about it. sara being forced to confront reality and challenge her adopted father with the truth. being able to blaze a new path for herself in the process. when she started running to the raiden shogun i was ultra hyped up. sara, a devotee to the shogun for so long, was about to see her god interacting with the same people who led inazuma to this awful state. how would she react? would she stay ignorant, like yae miko so coyly said, choosing to look away in favor of following her god's footsteps? or would she be forced to recognize the raiden shogun isn't as divine as she once thought, and challenge her belief system?
we open the door to see the raiden shogun. the loading screen ensues. the camera pans to the ominous room, clouded in darkness, hinting at the ominous confrontation that is to come. the music takes a serious timbre. and then...
well fuck that potential character arc i guess. (we still don't know what sara made of any of this since she poofed out of existence from the story at this point)
kazuha also was handed a similar treatment. we've been with him for a while longer now. he is our introduction into inazuma, the one who first gets us emotionally involved by regaling us with the bittersweet tale of friendship that led him to becoming a wanted criminal. a kind soul who loves nature yet was dealt a cruel hand by fate, forced to watch his home nation turn into a hostile place, where his dear friend ultimately perished as a result. we get the scene with his friend's vision lighting back up. he parries a block from the raiden shogun, in the same area where his friend was killed by her. the parallels. the drama. except this time, he wasn't too late. he protected the traveler where he "failed" to protect his friend in the past. did he feel redemption at this? or was it a bittersweet reminder of what could've been?
WELL i guess we'll never know because we didn't get to talk to him again 😭 idk who got a bait and switch worse, him or sara. jesus christ mihoyo.
then we have signora. why is the raiden shogun talking to her? does she know about the gnosis being taken, and if she doesn't, what was her plan to get it from the archon? what does she think about scaramouche? and oh, okay, we're fighting here now. good fight + god tier music. pog pog. okay, now we've beaten her up, and raiden shogun wyd— wait no not signora her lore is still on CUPS not YET raiden shogun and— ah she's dead. okay. non nerds who didn't read artifact lore are going to know nothing about her. signora has such an interesting story, and yet... well. ok.
then we get raiden shogun redemption (?) arc. i was hype for this as well, though at that point, idk why i bothered being hype. i knew they were gonna do a cute power of friendship something or another, and i'm good with that, so long as it's executed well. what i was envisioning was like seven different buffs to correspond with the seven different visions, the dreams of those whose ambitions were stolen serving as the spear to penetrate the raiden shogun's heart of stone. maybe a hydro vision giving us extra healing for a time, with the voice acting over it being like,
"Even if the rest of the world forgets us, let our will carry you through this one final time. Succeed where we couldn't, Traveler."
so on and so forth.
but instead we got— you get the idea at this point. why bother spelling it out anymore.
at that point i was surprised the raiden shogun didn't go "oopsie woopsie!! we made a fucky wucky!!!" because that was the vibe i was getting. i love ei, don't get me wrong, but i wanted to see her challenged with what she had done to inazuma in the past year. maybe meeting NPC #2345259 who lost her sister to the vision decree or something, reminding ei of the love she held for her sister... being forced to come to terms with the extent of what she's done in pursuit of eternity.
anyway. please for the love of god mihoyo hire better writers for the main story. that is all i ask. thank you.

I noticed that the Family Tree foreshadowing is never discussed in the ASOIAF fandom to debunk our deluded speculations.
Because it’s impregnable. There is no debunking. Their only course of action is to ignore it, and pretend it doesn’t exist. What is the counter argument to Jonnel and Sansa Stark? How do you explain it away? Impossible.
Jonnel (One-Eye) Stark, son of Lynara Stark, married his blood relative, Sansa Stark.
Like, my god.
For the people that ship Sansa or Jon with another character, that piece of information has got to be shattering. It’s brutal. No mental gymnastics can overcome it. If I was dropped on my head as a child, eventually grew up to become a Sansan, and I saw that sitting in the Stark lineage, I’d have to move on with my life.
I would say I’ve read a good amount of the strongest theories, foreshadowing, parallels and clues that other fandoms like to champion their ships with, and I can say without bias (I mean not really, but I know I’m right), they don’t have anything even remotely as significant or glaring as Jonnel and Sansa Stark.
I started my fandom days on Reddit, knew a lot of the more well known Jonsa arguments (Ashford, the outline, drifting snowflakes), thought it was an intriguing idea, but mostly stayed impartial. It wasn’t until I made my way to tumblr long after the show ended, and I read everything in its totality, that I realized the inevitability of Jon and Sansa.
But what I’ll never forget is when I finally got to @occupyvenus‘s Jonnel and Sansa Stark post. I was DUMBFOUNDED. I could not for the life of me understand why this wasn’t the primary evidence used to support the theory. Why had I never heard of this? Why was this not in the Alt Shift X Jonsa video? Why do BNFs and the fandom not talk about this? Why is this not treated with the same legitimacy as the Ashford theory?
This is the Ashford theory on steroids.
Once upon a time, in the universe of A Song of Ice and Fire, there was a girl named Sansa Stark. She had a suitor. His name was Jonnel Stark. They were related. They married.
WHAT.
And don’t get me wrong, I bloody love the Ashford theory. It’s a brilliant piece of foreshadowing, and the parallels between Jon Snow and Valarr Targaryen are incredible (omg please read The Black Prince With The White Guardian by @butterflies-dragons).
But the thing with Jonnel and Sansa is that nobody can trot out their bullshit to dismiss it. There’s no alternative way to interpret it. Nobody can claim it’s an oopsie coincidence. There’s no playing ignorant and pretending Jonnel Stark is meant to represent Aegon VI Targaryen. Nobody is bending themselves into a pretzel trying to parallel the Hound with Duncan the Tall. Jonnel and Sansa are invincible.
There’s no way around the fact that a Jon and Sansa got married in canon. That exists. In the Stark lineage. George did that.
And that’s when I realized why I had never really heard about it before. It’s a nightmare for them, so best to not acknowledge it.
Everything about it is bad...
The lengths George went to in making sure it was abundantly clear that Jonnel Stark is a direct representation of Jon Snow. Lynara Stark? One-Eye? Made heir to Winterfell after the death of his older brother? JONnel? Hilarious. It’s so over the top, they don’t even try to posture like this could somehow not be a reference to Jon.
The timing of its release? 2014. This didn’t come out in the 90s. We’re dealing with newer material here, succeeding even the last book in the series, making this all quite relevant. Equally as bad, it predates Jon and Sansa reuniting on the show. They don’t get to claim it’s silly George giving a wink and smile to a major shipping faction, because that fandom largely didn’t exist.
The circumstances of how it came to be? A last minute add to the lineage! Are you friggin kidding me? Why so compelled to add that in, Georgie?
But worst of all? Jonos Frey. Oh my god. Jonos fucking Frey. Third child of Rhaegar Frey. That right there is the killing blow. That’s how they know this is big trouble. For GRRM to spoil the most substantial secret in the entire series (other than maybe King Bran), in the exact same way, using another little cutesy variation of Jon’s name, is devastating. There goes any hope of ever convincing yourself GRRM would never reveal something so important in such a flippant way. There goes any hope of ever convincing yourself it has to be meaningless.
So, what do they do? They ignore it. They have to. It simply doesn’t exist. They’ll dedicate themselves to countering all major Jonsa evidence with their flimsy nonsense, but they never touch this. What is there to say?
But never forget, if a Jonnel (One-Eye) Stark, son of Lynara Stark, had married an Arya or Daenerys in the Stark or Targaryan lineage, you’d never hear the end of it. Never. They’d smother you to death with it. It would be confirmation that their ship is endgame, and everyone else can pack it up.
Jonsas, don’t let them gaslight you. Don’t question your own judgement of how big it is. It’s not a clue or an Easter egg, it’s a bomb sitting on a page, begging to be noticed.
Anyway, wow, this really got away from me, lol. Thanks for the message.
If anyone wants to read more about Jonnel (One-Eye) Stark, son of Lynara Stark, husband and blood relative to Sansa Stark (And why wouldn’t you!?), I implore you to read the following:
The Original @occupyvenus
Just Some Thoughts on Jonnel One-Eye Stark and Sansa Stark @estherruth-jonsatrash
Jon ‘One Eye’ & Sansa Stark @ladyofasoiaf
And I suppose you could read my original commentary on it, but there’s no real literary analysis, it’s just me screaming “Are you kidding me!?” for several paragraphs. :) Here.
