you regret the words like...as soon as they leave you because the moment you finish your sentence you get a face full of pillow

youd forgotten your clothes in the excitement of being able to sleepover at your boyfriend’s so long story short you’re decked out in one of his thinner t-shirts and a pair of his sweatpants

moments before disaster (aka The Pillow) struck you’d been chilling out on the couch and you both were pigging out just watching tv or something 

then mark decided to s t e a l a c h i p f r o m y o u r b o w l 

you couldn’t just TAKE THAT 

so yeah you mouth off and then get pillowed in the face and after the initial shock wears off you kinda just calmly get up and walk slowly towards the kitchen counter to put your food away so it doesnt spill

all the while mark is shaking in his boots the fear is BUILDING

because hes going over the scenarios of what you might do next in his head he doesnt notice you discretely picking up a pillow

he does feel it tho when you hit him upside the head with it

when mark wakes up the next morning he wakes up before you and sighs before stepping over you lightly to brush and stuff and to pour cereal for the two of you (hes not even going to TRY to cook)

once you wake up hes like “why didnt you wake me i wouldve taken the floor” and youre just like “yeah thats why i didnt wake you” and he just shakes his head because he cant argue with you and honestly hes

and his voice is hoarse because neither of you have spoken in a while and the first thing he says (very matter-of-factly, too) is “i’m going to flip the board now”

and you just go “go ahead” hoarsely as well because you’re just in mild shock that nobody won that intense ass match

he flips the board and looks up and stares at you and you stare back and suddenly the two of you are crying of laughter like

majorly uncontrollable you’re just rolling on the floor wheezing 

after you both calm down renjun goes to the kitchen to find something to eat and he’s like “it’s 1 in the morning oh my god we haven’t even eaten dinner what the heck” and that sends you into another fit of laughter

you guys are still awake when mark comes back to the dorm

you guys pass more time just talking and stuff 

and putting on songs and dancing to them it’s Good Fun

he makes you take his bed and sleeps on the floor in a sleeping bag 

you feel awful about it though so when you’re sure he asleep you go find the other sleeping bag and take your pillow and sleep beside him on the floor

he’s super shook when he wakes up but when he realizes that you didn’t want him to be lonely on the floor his smile is as bright as the sun

texts his friends for help on how to cook a nice breakfast

by this time you’re awake and just like “ok let me handle breakfast” 

the two of you just end up eating plain rice and eggs (because you aren’t confident in your kitchen skills) and giggling over the crappy pictures you’re taking of each other eating 

all in all the perfect date/sleepover

the moment you walk in the first thing that happens is that haechan pulls you into a hug

the second thing that happens is he holds you at an arm’s length, looks you straight in the eyes, and goes “we have to make a pillow fort”

you 100% agree it’s a necessity 

after putting your bag down on the kitchen he basically drags you to the living room 

the couch gets pushed back against the wall, the coffee table is moved to the side and chairs are moved back so there’s just a big floorspace directly in front of the tv

grab whatever you’re currently eating and hold it up and whenever you lean over to reach it he’ll just lean back or move it just out of your reach again

it takes forever because he puts music on while you guys are working and you both end up ballroom dancing to michael jackson

once its done neither of you can breathe from laughing so hard 

he makes a really quick dinner and the two of you eat it in the fort

while trading stories from the past couple weeks

all of this is done facing each other while holding hands on one side and eating with the other

the second time is because you have to bring pillows up

its still kind of light out when you guys get up on the roof so you pass time by taking selfies and talking and stuff

its cold af outside and youre freezing despite your jacket so jaemin bundles the both of you up in a blanket (or 4)

bringing a needle and thread outside so you can sew together flower crowns of leaves, grass, and dandelions

he cant help but laugh when you put it on his head

the second order of business is to push everything out of the way in the living room so the floorspace is entirely open

there are, after all, eight people there and its getting tight on the chairs 

everyones just like eliminate the seating options and thats best - then everyone will just have to sit on the floor

jisung suggests twister and everyone (foolishly) agrees

jaemin calls out the colors and limbs and soon you find your left arm reaching over chenle’s right leg and your legs trapped under jisung’s torso

hc, monotonously but muffled as his face is somewhere under renjun’s right armpit: wow this is so wild

after that ends badly (mark nearly suffocates from jeno’s left foot being literally in his mouth) everyone agrees on never taking a suggestion from jisung again (including jisung)

mark and jeno move chenle onto the couch and put a blanket over him while you, haechan, and renjun set up sleeping bags and pillow and blankets on the living room floor 

jaemin and jisung turn the music off and make sure the kitchen and everything is clean (and twister is put away)

you turn off the lights and lie down in the bag between mark and renjun

jeno wakes you up by stepping on your stomach the next morning while trying to escape renjun and his Pillow of Wrath

the pillow fight’s a little late but hey

8 am is better late than never

a quick breakfast is had while everyone takes turns brushing/showering/changing and it hits 10 am quicker than expected

everyones sad when you have to go back home but!! you all had fun and thats what counts

awww omg hey! congrats and good luck btw!

well the best part about starting in the fall is that so is literally more than a quarter of the school is also starting fresh, so a lot of people are looking for friends. just keep your dorm room open, say hi to people, offer to help people if they look like the need it (moving in day can be hectic)  and dont hesitate to chat to people in your classes. honestly it’ll come naturally because so many people will also be in the same boat wanting to make connections. just really try to remain open and warm and friendly :)

i met my first girlfriend at the first meeting of the lgbtqia club mixer, which a lotttttt of people went to. even if you dont want to become a regular member of the club, try going to the first few meetings just to see if you click with anyone! i know a lot of people just go to make some fellow queer friends and check out the dating scene. 

also that being said look out for events, my school had a tonnnn and even the silly events can be fun if u go in thinking youll have a good time (i loved going to bingo a lot haha) . tbh the earlier in the year you go to clubs/activities the easier itll be to meet people because those earlier meetings are where a lot of people havent really made a ton of friends/friend groups yet themselves. 

having a roommate is a grab bag…. i’ve had two random ones and one was super sweet and one of them it didnt go great. my advice is almost try to keep your relationship kinda professional? the one i had a better relationship with was someone who i was friendly with but not “bffs” with, we both respected each others space and were nice but kept a friendly distance. the one i had issues with was when we tried to become super close immediately but when it didnt work out it was super awkward because we were still living with each other but had some passive-aggressive vibes. tbh it was both of us it was just a bad vibe to have. currently i live with a good friend of mine as a roommate, the same one i did last fall (spring i was in tokyo in a suit but with my own room)

i think the key to roommates is just be honest. don’t pretend to be ok with things your not, be clear, and communication is key. just be straight-forward and friendly :D also dont spend all your time in your room, it’ll cut you off socially and annoy your roomie if they dont have any time to themselves either. also be sure to set expectations for guest/sleepovers early.

also you’re gonna meet a lot of new people, dont do shit you’re not 100% comfortable with. its corny but like peer pressure is stupid and freshman year i did some dumb shit because the people i was friends with at first were a different crowd than i was used to. just be smart haha

also this is a fresh start so if you’ve ever wanted to go by a different nickname, pick up a new style etc now is that time! who you introduce yourself as is who these people will know, it was weird for me not to be surrounded with classmates ive known since i was 5, so in an odd way you have a lot more control over your self image. if there were ever any changes you were debating now is a really good time to maybe try that out :)

also dont skip class too much haha. do ur homework, take time to study and just try to get involved in as many things as possible your first few weeks. you can always drop it! but ive found its soooo much easier to get involved if you start early, the more you try to more likely you are to make friends u really click with and have a good time 

also (im totally guilty of this) if you get a new bf/gf/partner at the start of the school year dont let the honeymoon phase kinda take up so much of your time, because you only start college once and friends are really critical. after we broke up i realized i kinda missed that golden window because i was so involved in my relationship in the start. dating is lovely!! but it college make sure u also join a lot of ur own clubs, make your own friends, and do separate things at the start :)

try shit you don’t think is up your alley, literally now is the time for experimentation in every way. also personally, i suggest taking a new language class as early as possible, learn that while its free as part of your tuition haha. it’ll really come in handy later in life. the earlier u start the more advanced you’ll be by the time u graduate! it looks great on a resume and its awesome for travel. plus if your school has exchange students or conversation tables its sooooo fun.

Come to think of it, US, could be divided into.. hmm.. FIVE phases.

ONE.

Me liked you from the moment me first saw you; that night with le school bunch. But yah, cos me seated quite far from you and me had loads to discuss, me let it be.

Me still liked you when you were with Alien; but cos me knew he kinda like you too, me let it be again. Plus, me already engaged then. Culturally, me not allowed to see anyone else; tho somewhat me still kinda gals magnet.. especially after me engaged. Temptations much. Lol. Lil did me know that it pwas my inner voice cryin for help.. most prolly.

But me cudnt continue being in denial tho. Hence, me made Alien took you out for clinic, that nite. Even talked your Abang into allowing it. And the rest is history.

TWO.

Me married. Tried being a good hubby; me just stopped any contacts with any gal. Especially le potential scandal from le office. The circumstance? She went back to the harrassing bf. And even got married to him.. ruining all me efforts to save her all that while. Me missed out on all that; but me didnt really care.. just yah; felt a bit uneasy to be in the dark. So me kan. Haha.

But somehow, us. The emailing just went on. The texts even; when WhatsApp first came about. And all the other apps. Nobody could talk me into installing them, except you. Tho not surprising much. And dont get me started with the songs I wrote. For you tau, them all.

Cos me still never really stopped liking you. But yah.. time goes by. With the gap and what not, me remember it being quite cold. The ons and offs being quite far from each other. So.. me let it be again. Huhuu.

Until.. me got le UK offer. Me knew that you would be the first to tell. Cos we were gonna be the closest to each other we would ever be. Tho even me didnt know what that could mean yet. Lol.

THREE.

Le UK phase. It was not really active, up until you said you're coming over. Phew. You cud never imagine what I felt back then.

Then, your Birm stay. And le heavy texting months. Me never felt closer to you before. But still.. somewhat.. me, was also trapped in le thought of ideal marriage. That no matter how me like other person, me should stay on to be a good husband. No matter how much me was tempted to leave; from the very beginning. "Suit your face; your choice anyways!" - what me said to meself.

Hence; le hiatus. And even easier.. with le baby bear coming up.. and you not making much sound over it. So me thot, we were cool liddat. And mutually let it be.. for God how many times now.

FOUR

Then, you came back. And me realised that me dont just like you. And me sure you felt just the same way too. But me was too comfy to make any move; kinda selfish too. Not wanting to be seen as le bad guy by walking out my responsibilities; but didnt wanna lose you either.

Until.. December. When Mirul came about; and you choosing him. Me literally almost blacked out, then. Me remember being in a mall in JB; and was queuing up for somethin. Took my time, walked around and took a seat. To figure out what was happening.

Me didnt like what me felt. Me didnt like le nausea. It was so so painful.. like nothing me ever felt before. Me had never been sure about anything, but me really sure that me didnt wanna feel that again. And me knew; me cant let it be nomore. Not this time. Not ever. Enuf is enuf.

So, me acted. And Avilion happened. Then, Genting. Then the rest of le story. Phew.

FIVE

And here we are.

Le calm before le storm. The funny part is, itll be a good storm. A colourful breezy fragrant one.

We know the drill too well, by now. We just need to keep calm and go thru thia phase as cool as we can. Cause le most beautiful phase is gonna happen in just few months.

Phase SIX. The most awaited phase that was already destined since Day 1; little did we know. Yeah.

Little did me know that me was taking me future wife out to clinic. Little did me know that the school bunch meeting was also my first meeting with my future wife. Little did me know that me wud marry the gal that my bestie used to like.. or still does but chose to stay trapped in le ideal wotld. Little did me know that the only gal me made out with after me engaged wud be the gal me wud legally marry.

I came up with this in,,,a round fourth grade time, and that was when i was really noticing my connection to mother nature and i was the weird kid and so ‘different’ stood out to me, (”different” being a good connotation and “strange” being the opposing) and ‘dove’ was a nice word, showing a bit of religion and peace and so i feel they fit together very nicely! It also turned out for Morning Dove to be my first larger role, and my ancients gave me this bag of random jewlery from all over and it had a beautiful handmade dove in it with beads.
