I can honestly understand not liking jazz (and heavy metal, which for me occupy the same mental category. and I'll argue about this) because I do think truly enjoying jazz requires a certain technical appreciation (like heavy metal. theyre the same. i'll argue about this) which is perhaps beyond the plebeian music enjoyer such as myself. but rap? i honestly think anyone who claims they "don't like rap" is just close-minded lol. Like look at this:
thats music bitch. i'm sorry but that's literally a tune. If you look at this entire album conceptually it's immaculate, now I'm just a little vince staples fan but this is probably one of my favourite albums of all time. it's so thoughtful but brutal, just this harsh depiction of reality told so bluntly. it's literally poetry in the most honest and raw sense!!! someone who has lived the things he's talking about!!! And that's just one example, there's so much out there and so much variety- for instance I think many self-proclaimed nonrap enjoyers might like something like tribe called quest:

for the "send you a character" your beloved onion boy
Onion posting...... my favorite
First impression: Ok so Some Jay lore Deadass I thought I was gonna hate him I was so sure Ryouga was where I was gonna go if I had to pick a favorite and, with a lot of the bits I got before actually watching, Kaito just did not fit the characters I was drawn most towards at the time. I used to stick to more light-hearted, sunshine characters, like token dumbasses with hearts of gold with a few exceptions to which Ryouga was gonna be because I IRL am such an aggressive fan of sharks the animals, plus he was the ~bff~ trope character in my eyes and this was someone who lived breathed and died Takeru Homura and Katsyua Jounouchi And while I love Kaiba and Ryoken, it took some time to find love for them
Impression now: Uh. He's alright. Just ignore my social media, how I took Photon to 2 YCSs despite the very poor matchup conditions(AND WENT 2-2 FOR FOUR ROUNDS WITH IT IN PEAK KASH FORMAT!!! SIMPLY BE BUILT DIFFERENT), and the near 10k and growing character analysis oh and like majority of the fanfiction I've written for the last 1.5 yrs now plus this tweet:
Tumblr media
sweats profusely To say he's impacted me quite a bit would be an understatement. Everytime something photon related happens in the tcg, I wake up to 10 different DMs and it's all this twink's fault
Favorite moment: omfg how does one pick a favorite when the character has become your entire life for a minute LOL Uhhhhhhhhh I will say I have the clip of him jumping into the cockpit saved on my phone for chuckles ajgkdlsj I love his duel against Ryouga, it's very showing of his character and his impact, also love how they banter His rematch duel with Yuma at the end of Part 1 is also really good, love to see him encounter his own uncertainty and let himself be inspired by Yuma I love that he stares at the footage of Mizael in the monitors in his lab like a freak after their first duel His duel with Shun in Arc V is always a rewatchable one
Idea for a story: Every story you could imagine!!!!! The one I'm currently most actively working on between upcoming ship week work is a semi-complicated post canon AU that has a past life subplot to it because lord I'm just gonna fill in the wasted potential subplots for Kaito myself at this rate ALLEGEDLY Have an OC I'm working on that ties back to him too, that's also lowkey in that lore also Stay tuned :)
Unpopular opinion: UH, the one I wanna say I'll wait for another ask that's currently in my inbox gjdsal So here is another from the analysis from another take I saw awhile ago:
I also think one of the long forgotten truths of Zexal is Yuma rarely sees anyone as a true villain. There are a few exceptions to this of course, Don Thousand and Mr. Heartland both come to mind, but Yuma manages to find compassion in just about everyone he faces and uses dueling as a way to bridge the gap between him and them, even ones who arguably don’t deserve it like Faker, Tron, and… well, beloved mothman Vector. If Kaito was ever supposed to look like a terrible person when he’s at the height of his crime spree, we would have seen that from Yuma’s perspective. Instead we see Yuma's fear, his intrigue, and ultimately, his motivation. Motivation to protect Astral from what’s to come, and then following the conclusion of the Kaito vs Zexal duel, motivation to help Kaito, and finally, the motivation to get to his level. Instead of the same treatment we get for other unforgivable types, we get to see Kaito for what he is beneath the snark, the beatdown strategies, and the unconditional love for his brother: he's lonely, he's incredibly desperate, and he's dangerously selfless for those who are the most important to him, so much so he initially struggled to find his next purpose.
I'm also on record for considering Kaito the strongest of all of the rivals lmao
Favorite relationship: Honestly all of them, family, ships, friends, I love how Kaito is written with others both in the shows(Zexal and Arc V both), the manga, and even Duel Links gives some of his lesser shown rivalries and connections more depth Kaito and Ryouga's rivalry is proooobably my favorite though? Especially including Duel Links moments, they've got so much in common but just will not connect unless it's to show the other up, but you know it's game over when they can find a strong reason to remain on the same page Also the card Photon Emperor exists, which is one, named very suspiciously, two, has a similar cape design to Nasch with the shoulder gems and the cape being attached by those pieces, and 3, very notably resurrects itself when it's sent to GY from hand, deck, or when it's detached as material from an XYZ At the same time, I LOVE Kaito and Mizael's entire story too, both as a rivalry and a relationship, god they're so good and it's truly so hard to put into words how much I love their dynamic, the parallels, how they match each other's crazy, they have my longest ship playlist gjkldadas For Arc V, I'm also a sucker for Kaito and Shun as well as Kaito and Edo Shun went back for him and wasn't going to quit until he convinced him,,, and Edo and Kaito have such strong chemistry for no reason, it's not unwelcome at all-- they just threw men at him for some reason and I'm all for it
Favorite headcanon:
I ALWAYS write him as both touch repulsed and touch starved because he's almost never shown without his jacket during canon except for a handful of flashbacks and exactly that one examination scene, and even in the flashbacks, all you get is his forearms from his one collared shirt
He'd rather die than sacrifice his aesthetic, an icon

Lantern
Cobweb
Ghost
and Flannel
(whatever you're comfortable answering xx)
Thank you beloved moot <3
Lantern (how did you meet your best friend? What were your first impressions of each other?)
Hmm, my longest best friend was through church. I can't remember why they hung out with me at first because they are a few years older then me. I can't remember my first impressions of them or theirs of me. But we are basically siblings now. They were the first person I go to about anything and I know that I could always crash on their couch if I had to.
My other best friend I met in Theatre. I have know them 3 or so yrs. I kind of thought they were just another edgy guy at the time but they were funny and me and their characters were in a lot of scenes together. I have never asked them what they thought about me.
My finale best friend (I am vv hard to have a casual friendship with. lmao. This isn't counting my online best friends either), I met him at work and we got along great. I remember they were kind of nerdy and wild and she was also quiet. Now they won't shut up (affectionate). Love them <3
I love all my friends for real <3
Cobweb ((if you’ve graduated) do you miss high school?)
Well, yes and no. I love learning. I adore it and I love learning with other people who love learning. I love going somewhere with other people to socialize. But grades and me don't mix. And homework and my ADHD would battle to the death every year. Also, the school I went to was full of Christians, homophobes, and racists. God, I had to walk into American history and lit and fight for my fucking life. :')
Ghost (is there someone that you miss having in your life?)
A good question. I guess my ex-bestfriend. There is no way to fix it as she dead set on being homophobic and transphobic and all that but I miss our relationship still. :,) at least I got consistent hugs
Flannel (have you ever gone on a bad date? )
Ooooo, boi, oh no. I have. Well, about a year ago, this guy asked me out on a date. A guy I worked with and I got so distracted by finally getting asked out that I said yes without using a single brain cell. I didn't even like this guy for christ sakes. I wanted to cancel but I felt too bad to do it and like it would be awkward if I cancelled so I just went with it and was an anxious mess the whole time. We saw a movie and I literally held onto my empty drink cup and leaning the opposite direction because I didn't want to him to try and hold my hand. Longest two hours of my life. Then afterwards I told him I didn't want to do it again and ran away. He turned out to be an asshat anyways so I dodged a bullet LMAO

Pumpkin Pie
Aight so! I made a fic a couple few months ago! I put waayy to much effort in trying to write it that I ended up procrastinating on it for a couple of months! I looked through my old drafts and saw that most of it was still in tact! So I figured I could sloppily edit a few things in and share it with ya’ll.
It contains a new villager that I loved and I must share her *gently holds* So you will have context if I ever get to draw her at some point!
Word count:  2,388 words 12,888 characters
-----------------
Emily Porter is a 24 yr old store clerk. She runs a small business in an area at the calm side of the village. Her store wasn't the busiest, it even gets rather quiet most of the time. But she found it in herself to bring a warm greeting to every customer who came in.
Recently, she's had a frequent enter her store in a routine manner. He introduced himself as "Montgomery" but invited most everyone to call him Monty. He hadn't stood out to her in any way at first.
He was a lovely fellow, at most, a little nosey. He’d always ask Emily about how her life was going as if he was meeting an old friend. He had a way of talking to people. One moment she was talking about work and the next she was talking about her recently deceased father.
Monty would come in every day for the past month. And every day he would ask for the same routine things.
5 Apples, 12 potatoes, and 15 carrots
5 Apples, 12 potatoes, and 15 carrots
5 Apples, 12 potatoes, and 15 carrots
At some point, Emily had started memorizing the order. Once he came in for a trade, Emily already had a basket with her.
“Good morning, Emily! Can I have uhm…” He hummed while looking at the menu. He hadn’t even noticed Emily’s amused smile. “Can I have 5 apples,-”
“--12 Potatoes, and 15 carrots!” Just before Monty could finish Emily had already pulled out a basket containing his beloved groceries! Emily chuckled. “Monty, Why do you even bother to look at the options when you’re just buying the same things anyway?”.
The man stared at her with a confused look. It's as if he hadn’t even noticed the pattern. Monty gasped “:0!! You are right!!”
This made Emily chuckle harder. “Such is the way of the Nitwit I guess!”
Moments later as Emily had already run up his order and as Monty went to reach for his Emeralds, Emily spoke.” Hey Monty, can I ask you something? You’ve been shopping there recently and you’ve been doing it consistently. Are you new in town? Did you move in?”
Monty paused.
“Sorry if it’s too personal or anything. I guess It’s just the least I can do… You have been asking me how my day’s been a lot; I- I- guess- I figured that I’d return the favor!”
Yet Monty beamed as if he was never asked that question before.“ I am new to this side of the village! I come to new places so I can be familiar with landmarks at times, and sometimes! I make new friends!”
     “Hence the groceries!”
     “Hence the groceries!”
The look on the clerk’s face softened… She was glad that Monty was willing to open up to her. The look in his eyes when she asked was something worth melting for. She was happy she met this man… and she was very happy that he’s honest with her.
     “So you’re a traveler.”
“ Traveller is a strong word, young lady! It is more like a vacation of sorts” as the basket hang from his arms he turned to leave, The door rang to close on his way out.
There goes that Montgomery off to do his…errands… Actually she doesn’t know what he does outside the shop… Monty hasn’t really opened up about what he does after hours. Emily could chuckle. He’s opening up though! Maybe soon she will learn what that man does in his spare time! She punched the air in excitement. Ah, another wonderful interaction with Montgomery.
     ‘Montgomery’...
She bit her lip. Why did she feel the need to whisper his name over and over..
Monty entered the store with some pep in his step. He was humming a random tune in his head and practically went in doing a little dance. “Emilyyyy~~!!” he hummed, excitedly ringing the counter bell at the side. A quick glance up though had him notice something that stole his attention
“Just a second!” yelled from the back rooms. She seemed to have been re-stocking some things. Quite frankly she seemed a little tired, her poor back was giving out on her despite her young age. She could really go for a massage or maybe a-
Wait a second
She knows that voice
“Monty!!” and just like that, her plans have changed. A quick peek from the doorway was enough for her to see the man looking up at the new item on the menu. Emily was excited that he saw it. She’s been waiting to talk about it with someone since yesterday. “Monty, Monty, Monty! How do! “
     “Pumpkin pie? “
The clerk could barely hold in a squeal, she was practically hopping from where she was standing. “Yeah! Yeah yeah yeah! Uhm- look look! ” She lifted her belt and showed it to him. Flashing back was a badge made out of copper! Different from the original metal!
Monty whistled. “Wow! Ms. Porter is an apprentice now, I see!”
“Yes!!” Emily squealed. “Goodness, look at me now! Working hard to get here and working harder to be better!” Her hands were flailing! they started out slow but quickly changed to be much faster and frantic. It continued until she found it in herself to calm down.
Monty found it humorous. Emily was always quite silly
“Thanks for all the support, Monty...I mean it, I really do!”
“Do not thank me, thank yourself! You are the one who runs the store!”
Emily’s eyes softened. She could feel her chest feeling warm. Monty was admittedly right. Maybe she didn’t quite think that herself, but she took his word for it… She was flattered. Oh man, validation
Emily took a breath and stopped herself. She should really prepare Monty’s order.
As Emily was putting in the last couple potatoes, Monty stared from the counter. “ Emily, Is the reason why you wanted to become a farmer because you wanted to bake? You are the type to have a sweet tooth :0”
“What gave it away? Did I get too excited?” She giggled. “I always wanted to be a baker. But since dad left me this place, I felt the obligation to continue it, you know? Between fulfilling his wishes and following my dream, I'd choose him as my first priority.” she smiled sadly. ” Doesn’t mean that I’m not planning to pursue my dreams in the future, it’ll just take a little while longer.”
“And the pies? How is it going for you?”
“Aw man, it’s doing great!” Emily purred. “Mom used to teach me how to bake sweets when she was still alive! Rather Ironic that I ended up really liking pumpkin pie. I’d eat it every day if I could.” Her voice had started sounding bittersweet. Simply just talking about those experiences with someone was comforting to her.
Monty smiled and nodded his head.
Emily placed the basket on the counter. Ringing up his order. Monty didn’t waste a moment and went to get his emeralds. “Hey, uh, Monty I have a question?” she turned away from him, her hand rubbing the back of her neck. “Well- sounds more like an invitation more than anything else, but you know.”
“You know you can tell me anything.” Monty barely moved from his position.
“So.. you’re new in this side of town, hm?”
“Yes, indeed, that is correct :)”
“How about you and I.. Are you free tomorrow? I- we could spend the day together, get some lunch… I can show you around town if you’re up for it.
“Uhh…” That somehow broke the man’s demeanor a little. As soon as he got his Emeralds in his hands and turned to her, he could barely maintain eye contact. Which was quite the contrast compared to his usual fixated stare.
“It doesn’t have to be romantic, Monty! Trust me, it doesn’t have to be! I- I’d just love to know you outside of work you know? If that’s not too much to you that is “
“it doesn’t have to be romantic?”
“No, not if you’re uncomfortable with it. It doesn’t have to be a date at all.”
Though still having trouble, he managed to look her in the eyes. And he could feel his hands soften. Despite the fact that he never felt them grip in the first place.“Okay! Then yes! I would love a little tour Emily, Thank you!”
Time passes, and Emily had noticed that Monty had been visiting less and less. He's gone from coming every day to 1-2 days, to 2-4, to weekly, and soon he's just stopped altogether.
Was it something she said? Emily figured that-- because of the tour that night-- Monty might've grown acquainted with that side of town. He must have lost the motivation to visit. She hadn't thought that was the case! Monty even offered to walk her home! Emily thought that he could've at least come over for the last time to say goodbye-- or-- something or other!
Perhaps it was just too much to ask. Perhaps she did make it awkward for the two of them. Maybe she was just a little too forward or open.
The store had gotten just a little quieter than it used to. Of course, there were still a few customers coming by now and then, but a little bit of company could have been nice.
After a long day, the night has started to fall. The store clerk hadn't even noticed how late it was getting on her way home. Emily guessed that she deserved it after stocking all the items last minute... She should really start hiring some help for the store now that she thinks about it...
Before she could finish that thought, she heard the sounds of clip-clopping from behind her. What was a horse doing this late at night? The farmer turned back to try and get out of the way but was rather surprised to find Monty mounted atop it. He stopped right beside her and flashed one of his ol' charming smiles.
  "Emily! Good morning!"
Emily was just taken aback. Perhaps not out of fright, but just in deep surprise...OH GOD HE CAN RIDE A HORSE.
She hadn't even noticed his blatantly wrong usage of the passage of time! So many things were running through her head, so many questions to ask, things to tell him. She was frantic, she was excited?? Nervous. PANICKED! So much so that she could barely open her mouth. Now that he was riding such a majestic being, he had an added charm to him that left her speechless. She was just flustered and frozen all in one spot.
"You- Y- Youuuu and.. You-.. HORSE.. Cool, very cool big horse. Horses are so c- coooolll...you're...........cool.." Emily, uh. Stammered.
"Thanks! Her name is 'Whiskey'!" Monty purred, giving the horse a loving pet.
Emily can't help but calm down at the sight. It was cute, she'll admit. Monty's familiar presence helped her relax at least a little bit.
"I rented her so I can say my final goodbyes."
"Final goodbyes?" Emily looked up at him, a tad bit caught off-guard. "...So you really aren't visiting here any longer, huh?"
Monty nodded. "I do not think I can tell you why, I am sorry."
"That's alright!” She felt her throat tighten ”I hope you had a nice time here, Monty!" She rubbed the back of her neck, losing eye contact with him. "I could only hope that we could run into each other another time." Emily started walking off, her smile feeling heavy. She didn't know why but she started to feel her heart sink. Monty wasn't moving an inch.
  "Where are you going?"
Emily bit her lip. "Home! If you wanna come by you know where to find me!" It wasn't the fact that it was Monty in particular. She'd had enough experiences growing attached to people only for them to leave not long after. Emily's seeing the pattern and she figured that she might as well get this one out of the way. She hadn't even noticed that her walk was starting to get a little faster.
Monty was left behind her.
  "Emily!"
Emily paused. Stopped dead in her tracks. Maybe she was overthinking the situation. Is she really going to waste a goodbye because she was feeling sorry for herself? She took a little breather, and without turning back, she spoke. "Yeah?"
The horse walked towards her, halting when they caught up. Monty placed a finger on his chin, and looked up. "Weren't you the one to say that you wanted to stay in touch? outside of work?? Hmmm????" That was extra even for him. She could see that he was trying to cheer her up.
It seemed to have worked. the bite on her lip softened. "Monty, Is this going where I hope this is going?"
"Do you want to come over? I can show you where my house is!"
Emily chuckled softly "Monty as much as how nice that would be, you caught me at a really late time."
"It will only be for one hour!! and if you are worried about going back home, Whiskey and I can escort you back!"
Emily smiled at him, giving him eyes that can only show trust. "1 hour."
Monty crossed his heart. Emily smiled and hopped aboard. She was mounted behind Monty and held him as tight as it was comfortable. The horse was fast, and she was having fun as much as she was terrified. She was confident that she was safe. Monty seemed to be in control of the situation and she didn't mind that one bit.
Nick Thomas is a 26 yr old store clerk. He runs a business in an area on the crowded side of the village. His store was one of the busiest, it could barely find its own quiet. He hardly had the energy to bring a warm greeting to every customer who came in.
Recently, he's had a man enter his store. He introduced himself as "Montgomery" but invited most everyone to call him by Monty. He hadn't stood out to him in any way. He barely knew anything about him but his order. 5 apples, 12 potatoes, 15 carrots,
And a singular pumpkin pie.

//plops down at table with three notebooks//
Good evening.
You shall now be the subject of my rambling and info-dumping, seeing as you have recently reblogged a post about invading your ask box to do just that.
So, buckle up, my beloved mutual, for I am about to talk your damn ears off.
We all know historians are heterosexist shabuire, yes? Yes? Good. So I've taken it upon myself to send an f-you to all of them and collect evidence for one of the historically accurate ships they so desperately try to erase. The one in question here is, of course, Alexander Hamilton x John Laurens, or more commonly known as Lams.
I've done... a lot of research, to put it mildly. And yes, as a matter of fact, I do consider reading letters from the late 1700s and screaming because I can feel my heart MELTING as research.
Anygay, there's a lot that I have right now so I'll just hit the highlights, because if I go completely in-depth with everything I've found, this'll be thousands of words longer.
The year is 1779. The month, April. The date... unknown. Which sucks. Alexander and John have fought together for years at this point and are very close... friends. This is the first time they've been truly separated. The letter open with:
"Cold in my professions, warm in my friendships, I wish, my Dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words, to convince you that I love you. I shall only tell you that ’till you bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you. Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent on the caprice of others. You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent. But as you have done it and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on condition that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have so artfully instilled into me."
So pretty much what this opening paragraph is saying is this: "*Sexual innuendo* And I'll keep telling you that until you die. So you know I hate everyone and don't want to have any attachments to anyone. But you've managed to worm your way into my heart, even though I didn't want it. So now that you've done it, please keep doing it, for you if not for me."
Now that's just hella gay. Like, hella fucking gay.
The middle paragraphs are mainly talk about the war, so skipping those for the end because that's when things get spicy as FUCK.
Alexander asks John to find him a wife and goes into great detail about exactly what he wants in a wife. I saw a theory somewhere (I can't remember where) that Alexander was actually describing John and yeah, it pretty much checks out. Keeping in mind deliberate irony is a thing.
So then he goes on to say: "...mind you do justice to the length of my nose and don't forget, that I ⟨– – – – –⟩." 'Nose' is a slang term. And the - - - - - are crossed out words. We'll get to those later.
The last sentence of this letter is: "I have gratified my feelings, by lengthening out the only kind of intercourse now in my power with my friend." and I find this. So. Sweet. He's pretty plainly missing John. And just- he uses the word intercourse. How- how is that platonic? This is gay. They're gay. It's gay.
In almost all the letters that survived, they're signed with "Yours", "Affectionately Yrs.", "Yrs most sincerely", "Yr affectionate", and "Yrs forever" from Alexander. "Adieu, my dear boy", "My love as usual", "You know the unalterable sentiments of your affectionate Laurens", and "Yours ever" all came from John, with the last being the most common. That's... also not terribly straight. Something additionally interesting is that John's father, Henry Laurens, called his wife, Elenor, "Dear girl." That would make it explicitly romantic in his eyes. John also called his wife that in the only surviving letter from him to her. Oh yeah, he's married and has a kid, btw.
So pretty much how that happened was John's boyfriend Francis Kinloch broke up with him, he banged Martha probably 'cause he was sad and pissed and had a lot of feelings, she got pregnant, then he married her out of pity. Alexander knew none of that. And they were really close. The only reason he found out was because he happened to stumble upon some stuff he shouldn't have, and he was pissed. The whole paragraph about him detailing the wife he wanted? Pretty much petty payback.
Devoted is an interesting word, isn't it? Stronger than it's synonyms, such as caring or loyal. So if we skip ahead a few years, Alexander is engaged to Eliza. He tells John about this, John responds, and in his next letter he says: "...as if after matrimony I was to be less devoted than I am now." He's telling him, "Don't worry, I'll still love you as much as I always have. Just because I'm getting married, it doesn't change my feelings for you." Again. Heterosexual explanation? None.
" I hate Congress—I hate the army—I hate the world—I hate myself. The whole is a mass of fools and knaves; I could almost except you and Meade." Keep in mind that at this point now, Alexander was married. And he didn't include his wife in the exemptions. Only John and one of his closest friends, Richard Meade. Dunno 'bout you, but that seems rather telling to me. He also says at the end: "My ravings are for your own bosom." And I can't. His ravings are for John's heart I can't.
These are just some of the highlights of my nearly six thousand word book on this subject. I would happily copy/paste it all, but I'm not gonna subject you to that XD For full viewing the link is here, should you wish to listen to me ramble and rant in more detail.
Thank you for allowing me to dump this all on your lap, and I shall now bid you adieu. //vanishes back into the shadows//
HI, sorry it took me so long to answer this, I’ve had a pretty full-on day.
This was actually super interesting to read. I actually did a little bit of research into this about a year ago, when I was writing Lams fanfiction, so I knew about the ‘cold in my professions, warm in my friendships” letter, but not any of the others, so thanks for this!! It was a really fascinating read, and I definitely learned a lot from reading it. Have a good day :)

do you ever wonder if cree had never turned evil, she would have enter the TND and maybe the AND
GATHER AROUND KIDS ‘CAUSE OLD CRIS IS ABOUT TO KND RAMBLE IN A VERY LONG POST!
Long time ago, when I was still in my 15s and the show was barely starting in CN, I used to believe Cree was another secret undercover teen operative working for KND and I was CONSTANTLY waiting for the reveal to eventually happen (pretty much what I also expected with Chad) but after the show ended and Chad was the only one who got proven to be good all along, I was 100% convinced she was really in the enemy side and I learned to accept it and EMBRACE IT.
You see, part of what makes Cree’s this cool character we all love it’s her personal vendetta against KND. If you take that element out of her character design, she would probably be just a normal teen-older-sister figure who has been somehow secretly protecting Abby/Sector V in the sidelines all this time and, although I admit that would have been pretty awesome to discover, I totally prefer the case not to be because I think a redemption arc for her would be way much more awesome to watch.
But please allow me to go into full Numbuh 101 mode for a second and ramble a bit with another of my “KicaCris-analyses-the-KND-canon-universe!” very long posts:
Tumblr media
To me, Cree is the “Jasper” (Steven Universe) of the Kids-Next-Door, the villain who will figure out later her mistakes and rise again as a redeemed heroine.
Story-wise, I think the writers needed to show us the both sides of the aftermath of KND operatives turning 13 yrs old: the kids who accept decommission and grow up honorably (Maurice) and the kids who (for some reason) decide to rebel and betray KND upon becoming teenagers (Cree).
Now I don’t think Cree betrayed KND just because “she’s now a teen and suddenly her brain/hormones decided to turn her evil” and all that yada-yada, hell no. Cree was A LOT like Abby when she was a kid (proven in the flashback of Op MAURICE), she was Sector V’s leader, super smart, brave and responsible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SOMETHING must have happened after Maurice left Sector V that somehow made her HATE with raging passion the Kids-Next-Door. What was it? We don’t know it yet, but we can pin-point WHEN it probably happened.
Tumblr media
Canon-wise, it seemed to have happened after Nigel’s graduation from the Cadets-Next-Door Academy and during what I presume was Chad’s first years as a global command operative (Op TREATY flashback). The flashback definitely happens after the whole chicken-pox thing, as we can notice Abby is already wearing Cree’s red cap and Numbuhs 8A and 8B have been cured and still part of the team:
Tumblr media
Funny enough Chad seems to have gone thru one heck of a growth spurt after Maurice left Sector V. Notice how he was a small boy scout in Op Maurice flashback and how he suddenly is towering Nigel in Op TREATY flashback:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Bonus: he’s even taller in the present day)
Tumblr media
Sorry I got distracted-what was I saying?
Ah yeah, the timeline! So, as I was saying, Cree was still Sector V’s leader when Nigel graduated from the Cadets-Next-Door academy and Chad was already a global command operative.
And then we have Kuki’s graduation flashback:
Tumblr media
As far as I know canon-wise, Kuki is the youngest and last member to join Sector V and notice how by this moment in time, Numbuh 100 is STILL the Supreme Leader, Chad is a global command operative and yes Rachel is also pictured in here wearing her old uniform, but none of the old or current members of Sector V appear.
I’m not sure if there is an established limited number of operatives per KND team sector but, but either Sector V had like 8 members by the time Kuki joined in or Cree and the twins were already gone by then.
Anyway, my point is whatever triggered Cree to betray KND probably happened around this moment, either before or after Numbuh 100 got decommissioned.
But alas, we never learned what caused her to rebel…just another of the many unresolved stories in the show…*sigh
I don’t want to spoil much my headcanon, ‘cause you’ll see what is my version of what probably lead Cree to rebel in my story, but all I can say is that SOMETHING must have rubbed her the wrong way with KND right before hitting 13 years old that triggered to start a personal war against the organization (plus, recruiting decommissioned high-ranked-beloved ex KND operatives to be part of her Teen Ninjas forces seems pretty ill-intended so her desire for revenge is really intense!)
(((BONUS RANDOM  UNRELATED GROWTH SPURT ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT BECAUSE I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS LOL))) :
What really confuses (and fascinates me the most too) is that A LOT OF TIME seemed to have passed between Maurice leaving Sector V and Kuki’s addition. In Operation: E.N.D., it is stated that Numbuh 274 was the leader for 5 years, but this is later contradicted in Operation: M.A.U.R.I.C.E., as the flashback shows that three years before the present time Numbuh 100 was still the Supreme Leader. (This is a very intriguing mistake because clearly, the writers didn’t have Numbuh 100 in mind when Operation END was written. Numbuh 100 seemed to have been created in the production of the two last seasons and he must have had a purpose story-wise because why would you suddenly throw another Supreme Leader before Chad and Rachel’s time to the story???)
The growth spur Maurice, Chad and Rachel go thru the show is very noticeable and it’s probably the best indicator of how much time has passed if you compared them to how all members of Sector V remain physically the same throughout the show.
These three, (and Cree too) are the only characters who seem to go thru this expected puberty effect during the show either because they turn 13 or are close to reaching puberty as in Rachel’s case, while Numbuh 1-5 are all barely hitting 10-11 years canonically (Kuki reaching 10 years old in the show is my only reference).
Tumblr media
Let’s check some facts first: Chad is canonically a few months older than Maurice and at least a year older than Rachel, BUT Chad probably had a late growth spur as he clearly looks shorter than Maurice during the chicken-pox crisis.
Let’s look at Maurice growth spur first: he clearly grows A LOT in the 3 year gap between the flashback and the time of his decommission. He now towers Abby but is still a bit shorter than Cree, who is 16 years old in the show (that means she’s 3 years older than Maurice and Chad wow).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s also almost the same height as Stacey:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But THEN in Op PARTY he seems to have grown even more and is now Cree’ same height:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s check Rachel:
Tumblr media
She was already taller than Fanny before becoming a global command operative.
Tumblr media
And grows slightly taller than Nigel in Op ZERO.
Tumblr media
She keeps growing taller as the show progresses. Look how far she has grown by the time op TREATY happens! She reaches Steve a bit under his shoulders and he’s taller than Cree! It’s very subtle but it’s still noticeable. I’m pretty sure she’s way taller than Abby by the time she passes to her the Supreme Leadership.
And Chad, boy he grows a lot throughout the show! Remember how Stacey was the same height as Maurice at first? Well look again in Op PARTY, Chad is now taller than her!
Tumblr media
And in this other shot during the first teen attack during operation TREATY? He’s almost as tall as Cree!
Tumblr media
I’m going to use Numbuh Infinity as my height reference but look how much he’s taller compared to him and Nigel (and Infinity is a tall alien kid mind you).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m guessing by the end of the show Chad is almost just as tall as Maurice. Too bad we never saw them side by side in the show, it would have been interesting to see who is the tallest between the two but my headcanon is that Mo is slightly taller.
Ok I got too carried away with this answer lmao, sorry guys! XD I’m gonna leave it here, thank you for coming to my TED talk about “Growth spur in KND”,  bye!

The images above are not mine. I found them on Pinterest and Tumblr.
( katie mcgrath, 23 (30), cisfemale. )  ♟  raise your glass for ( alaeria hightower ), the ( lady ) hailing all the way from ( oldtown ). the word on the kingsroad is that they’re known as the ( wildcard ), and apparently they can be ( - subserviant ) and ( - secretive ), but at least the gods blessed them and made them ( + charming ) and ( + creative ). no one is positive as to their intentions but they’re loyal to house ( hightower & targaryen ), so they can’t be all bad.  Hello my lovely friends, it tis I, the slowest turtle in the planet finally finishing up and posting my bio for Alaeria. If anyone wants to plot a connection or a thread with her, please do feel very free to hmu, sweethearts!! <3
Ok, so let met first start off by saying what some/most of y’all might have suspected or guess by now, that my girl's  no.1 biggest secret is that she's actually not the real Alaeria Hightower! XD But, she is a Hightower by blood though, as her dad is the current ruling Lord of Hightower. Now let the story begin...
So about 2 yrs before she got married to Drogon Targaryean, she was actually the very secretly unknown, bastard child of Lord Dietrich Hightower from an extremely discreet liaison he had with a woman (who is actually a descendant of the Free Folk & also from another land/kingdom ( i haven’t really decided which one just dfghjklkjh ^.^”). He was a lustful dickhead of a guy who basically just wooed and charmed her mother with fake promises of love and he hid his true identity from her. When she got pregnant and thus found out her lover's real identity, she then immediately left, (to his relief as well as he didn't want to fuck up his marriage and spoil his shiny & extremely proud reputation) because she didn't want her child to known as a bastard and also to prevent her from getting gossiped about , bullied, etc...And also cos her mom still hopelessly cared for that idiot lover of hers despite knowing better. XD
Alaeria and her father never once met until one day, 2 years ago, thru a chance meeting and it was hard to not believe that she was his child as she had a unique birthmark which only members of his line would have, and she was the exact spitting image of her paternal great-grandmother XD They also eventually came to find that she also possessed quite a mixture of a few physical & non-physical traits of Maris the Maid, one of the most legendary Hightower ancestors.
Dietrich Hightower’s  only legitimate daughter with his legal wife, the current ruling Lady of Hightower, was the real Alaeria Hightower. She was a rather sickly and a pretty weak child. She also had the misfortune of having some facial scars and horrible looking birthmarks on her face and neck, and was also slightly disfigured due to a terrible accident while growing up. Her overly-proud and image conscious/ shallow parents were pretty dismayed by her appearance and was extremely fearful that she might not be able to make a good & strong match with other great houses. So from when she was 8 or so, onwards, they kept her carefully hidden in Hightower and she hardly went out of their fortress of a home. Plus whenever she had to be presented out for public events , they covered her face with pretty but dark-coloured veils and spread word that it was "prophesied that she had been both blessed and cursed with great beauty upon her 5th birthday and whoever who caught any single glimpse of her face from that point onwards, before she was married, would be struck down with  a great misfortune at a major point of their lives." So yeah, they managed to make many people believe this bullshit fake prophecy with asking a few servants to spread rumors that she was an incredibly beautiful baby & toddler & a few daredevils who had tried to sneak a peek of her face properly when she was 10/ 11 had been afflicted with horrible accidents and disastrous illnesses. The ruling couple also were planning to tell their in-laws after she managed to be wedded, that “this gift of beauty of her was also two-edged curse as she would be struck with a minor harmless affliction (ugly facial marks and stuff) after her wedding night”  XD rofl
They also obviously never told anyone that her health wasn’t that strong and constantly on a see-saw condition ;)
Ruling Lady Hightower was overly-protective of her poor little girl and devoted a lot of her time to pampering and spoiling her daughter so much, that the real Alaeria Hightower, grew up to be quite the brat : shallow, entitled  & extremely lazy young woman that was only interested in material items and frivolous matters, never bothering to study much or read nor get well-versed with current political events (despite having pretty sharp brains). She was also pretty selfish, never genuinely concerning herself at all with the welfare of anyone but that of herself and her beloved mom. She never ended up being close with her father at all as well.
In the meantime, my baby ( who I’m still struggling with deciding on her real, original name asdfghjkl, forgive me ^.^”) had been growing up in a pretty nomadic lifestyle with her loving mother, who had quite of a wandering soul in her. Despite never truly having a proper home or a long-term abode, she was pretty happy with her life as a travelling low commoner. She adored her mother and her mother cherished her right back, always making sure that she felt safe and secure. During all her many years of growing up, she had travelled to many & all sorts of lands and kingdoms & had a very rich past filled with memorable experiences and cultures as well as meeting all sorts of people. Her mother taught her to always be kind, loving and to be compassionate no matter what, as well as to always hold on to the hope that there will always be a light shining in the darkness in end. Her mother also always(!), highly stressed on filial piety and thus her daughter become an extremely dedicated & very dutiful daughter, that rarely counteracted nor really argued with whatever decisions her mother made ( even if very secretly sometimes doesn’t really like it nor agree with it :p)
In the end through it all, Her personality is that of a warm, genuine, sincerely charming and pretty affectionate woman. She's also pretty gentle sometimes. She's happens to be quite witty and pretty knowledgeable as she has a huge thirst for knowledge and was always very eager to learn as much as possible about anything & everything from when she was a child till now still. She's very loving and always tries her best to smile a lot no matter what, and also is very generous. Her flaws are that she is pretty naive towards the noble-people’s  manipulation, cunning & wicked ways since she's so open. She gets anxious(TM) easily at times and can be quite the worrier over some matters. She's also too docile/ overly-fillial towards her elders which would be her dad, his wife and all the older relatives of Drogon's family. ( this would give them a bit of power over her and it's kind of second nature to her to feel obliged to obey whatever they demanded of her...for now) She  is actually rather clumsy on some occasions, but now she has to try her best to be elegant & graceful  as much as possible ( so hard tbh XD) . She actually doesn't like the idea of battles and war and doesn't fully enjoy being a royal.  All she ever wants in life is to just live simply, happily and peacefully with her loved ones and that's it. Poor gurl. She likes spending time outdoors a lot and her hobbies more lies with cooking on her own, making small herbal soups/drinks (which she learned a great deal from her mother), swimming, riding and wood-crafting and playing with animals. She also has a pretty curious nature and high penchant , nay desire(!), for exploring all kinds of new places.
Now back at Hightower: (3 and a half years ago, before everyone came to King’s Landing) ;D: Shortly after Drogon's mother & his privy council and the rulers of Hightower came to an agreement & set arrangement to wed Drogon and (the real) Alaeria in the near future, the real Alaeria unfortunately got infected with a fatal and incurable, long-term, disease. Lord Hightower was panicking hard over what to do with the marriage arrangement as he really wanted to strongly bind their house with the great House of Targs, (cos despite whatever their current status may be , he wisely deemed that this powerhouse could potentially rise up to take over the Iron Throne again in the future & if not, well, it was better to be allies with this formidable house than be enemies ryt incase of any future wars?)
And this is when he unexpectedly & finally met with his bastard daughter at this critical emergency time. Upon meeting her and seeing some potential in her, he then had this brilliant but crazy & extremely risky solution, that my baby should take over her royal half-sister's place and pretend to be her for the benefit/good of the kingdom.
My baby had been seeking hard for her biological dad a few months prior to that life-changing event, as her beloved mom had just recently died but she managed to tell her daughter the truth of her real-parentage and told her that if her dad ever accepted her as his own & welcomed her  , she (my baby) must promise to be an obedient and filial daughter to him as my baby had been to her all these years.
However, when her father revealed his plan of deception to her, she immediately didn't  wanna do that plan with her dad as she was so damn scared that it would quickly derail and go wrong and they'd be exposed within the first day of her setting foot in Dragonstone XD Plus, also she ever truly wanted was to meet her biological dad and get to know him, not to be powerful lady! She was fearful for both hers & her dad's lives if they were found out and that she might either be facing life imprisonment , exilation or the worse of all, death, if her future husband and his council was so enraged over the whole major deception and wanted to punish them badly. BUT because of her promise to her mom and also because her dad eventually managed to sway her with lots of showers of affection and eager interest to bond and get to know his bastard daughter, which Dietrich quickly detected that she longed for fatherly love and acceptance ( half of this stuff he did,  was subtle manipulation which my poor baby will not realize until later) she then eventually did reluctantly agree to go with the whole plan.
Thus they spent that two years, before the day she was to step foot into Dragonstone for the engagement party and the wedding, coaching her relentlessly on how to become  perfect princess. The becoming Araelia part was easier to get into bcos,  nothing much was really known about the real Araelia outside of Hightower, since she was kept hidden most of the time by her parents, and had minimal interaction with folks during any major public feasts & events happening there and only a handful of highly trusted folks in Hightower knew of this whole matter. SO basically my baby could really be her own character & personality when she was and is still, now going about as "Lady Araelia.”
Atm, my poor gurl feels so conflicted internally, cos she loves Drogon so, so much and she's so torn over whether to  finally tell him the truth rn or continue holding it a secret to her grave. Cos she doesn't know how he is going to react!  She's in so much agony over her current dilemma right now, because the one thing she's no.1 scared of,  is losing him and his love . She's felt so happy, secure and at peace with him eversince the day they got married till now hence, she's so scared of losing him & this happy marriage forever if she confesses. But then again, she feels so horrible for still continuously lying to the man she loves, every single day.
Also, eversince arriving at King’s Landing for the past few days, she’s been holding an ever-persistent anxiety  at the back of her mind  over her true identity being discovered out. She’s been trying very hard to hide and keep her anxiety & stress at bay as often as possible. The current occasion she was attending and the place where it was held was the most riskiest of situation to be in at the moment, as there was the fearful possibility that someone from some other place which she could have bumped into during her past life of nomadic living with her  mother, would chance upon her and recognize her. Thus, inadvertently exposing her real identity and bringing the dreaded drama that was sure to follow.

West Facet Stories: Yes, I spotted the ‘suspect’ operating on Athelwold St.
It was scarcely 15 past 7 a.m. about three months in the past when the day turned truly unusual seriously rapidly.
I experienced just gotten again from my morning walk-about, which experienced a little excitement past the norm. It was just one of the very first awesome times of spring, good plenty of exactly where I could sit out on the entrance porch with my coffee and not have to faux it was heat. I was still inside of pouring my espresso when the phone rang. It was my wife.
“Hey, a police officer just came up to me as I was leaving the house for perform,” she said. “They were asking if we experienced seen the suspect this morning.”
My muscular tissues seized up and there was a silence on the telephone.
When the law enforcement are wanting for suspects around listed here, it’s not excellent information at any time of the day. I puzzled what had took place – a shooting…a strike and run…Was my vehicle intact? How did I skip all the motion when I was outdoors earlier?
It experienced been a comparatively peaceful early morning aside from that one intriguing twist. But I experienced noticed no proof of law enforcement matters. Resigning to the concept that extra violence experienced long gone down, I questioned her what she instructed the law enforcement.
“I instructed them you experienced witnessed the suspect,” she explained around the mobile phone.
My heart fee jumped. I hadn’t viewed nearly anything. I questioned her why she would tell the law enforcement that I was included and, if historical past dictates the present all over right here, I almost certainly did not want to be concerned in looking at any suspects.
She paused, then laughed – which I imagined wholly inappropriate. “I’m talking about the coyote you saw,” she mentioned, understanding she experienced supplied me a cardiac second. “The police are out searching for a coyote. I guess another person termed.”
That morning, the appealing twist in my walk was looking at a coyote occur out of nowhere and jet down Athelwold Street at what appeared like the velocity of light-weight – dodging an oncoming college lunch delivery truck. It was a startling second, and odd, but one particular you move on from. It is amusing how wildlife has returned to this side of Dorchester.
This was my second coyote sighting in excess of in this article, and when these types of things are prevalent in Cedar Grove or Reduced Mills, on this a lot-denser aspect of Dorchester, they are anything rare in fact.
About 10 decades back, I appeared on as three turkeys dropped out of the sky on July 4 and landed on my neighbor’s do the job truck. It was surreal at the time. I even sent in a photo to the Dorchester Reporter – and they ran it with enjoyment. Presently, you see turkeys around listed here four or 5 moments a 7 days. A entire family of them lives in Mother’s Relaxation Park like they possess the spot. They’re like squirrels now – just yet another section of this odd urban landscape.
So, yes, I did spot the suspect that morning, and if any BPD brass would like to swing by, I’m accessible for questioning.
Speaking of suspects – There has also been far too much real violence – non-coyote associated – above the earlier few months all-around below. Two weeks back, when we had firm from out of city keeping with us, some younger gentleman squeezed off 8 gunshots at an enemy in the street a couple blocks absent from our house. He strike no one particular, but the gunfire was more than enough to set the community on its side. It is a definitely unpleasant truth to have to explain to company that these types of matters do not take place that normally, and that there is no motive to be afraid. Of system, there is enough motive to be fearful when you listen to a firearm blasting in the street.
The younger male was arrested on the location, crime scene tape was deployed, and K-9 dogs scattered in every way to do their sniffing. The kicker listed here is that the kid was from Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury – actually? I appeared him up and he experienced absent to Shrewsbury High, the place he was a very superior hoops participant. This is taking place a lot more and far more: Children from the suburbs coming into our community and contemplating just about anything goes. There will have to have been ample warning signs of this young male likely off monitor for the great persons of Shrewsbury to just take note. But that’s just it: Also often they ship their problems off to Dorchester, Mass/Cass, and other locales. A crucial difficulty suitable in this article and now is the suburbs stepping up and using treatment of their problems simply because I’m expanding impatient with their dysfunction exhibiting up on my street and resulting in mayhem. Imagine me, we have our very own difficulties we really do not need to have theirs, also.
Cleanin’ Up –May 1 was the day for the annual citywide clear-up in the neighborhood, and the West of Washington community affiliation was out in comprehensive drive. My youngest daughter and I normally strike up the Oliver Wendell Holmes School, a horribly disinvested university in the Boston Community Faculty portfolio. It’s a tall order each individual yr to try out to cleanse it up, but kudos to my daughter, Taryn, who had a real fantastic plan. She place on her roller hockey skates, grabbed a $2 trash picker, and rolled away. We were being finished in no time. You can sure get a large amount finished on wheels!
As an aside, a big kudos to Councilor Andrea Campbell’s business office and the BPS functions crew for receiving rid of well known and lengthy-standing gang graffiti on the college. Just after a yr of my 3-1-1 calls created really minor development, they acquired motion in a several day’s time final 7 days. Now that is really Loving Your Block – or whichever they simply call it now.
Farewell to good friends – I just cannot conclude this column with no giving tribute to two very long-time West of Washington residents – Neil Hogan and Arthur Sutton. These two guys have been gentleman of the 1st order, beloved this community, and used a long time here. The two passed absent in excess of the previous many months.
Neil was the to start with and only neighbor I have ever experienced in my adult life, and possibly the greatest upcoming-doorway 1 any individual could talk to for. A generous man and a heck of a fisherman, he was a lifestyle-extended Dorchester resident who was explained at his funeral as a “cool gentleman.” I concur, but so a great deal extra can be said of an individual who will be skipped.
Arthur Sutton lived at the base of Athelwold Street for an eternity.
Many may have noticed his name on the municipal ballot a couple occasions. He experienced a seat at the end of the street, and he sat there often. He manufactured keys for everyone in his workshop on Norwell, and at a single time ran a fairly excellent community conference. I met him initially at the polling position 17 decades ago when he was encouraging folks to vote. He constantly had the fantastic word. I’ll pass up observing him at the polls this slide.
Seth Daniel has been a resident of the West of Washington neighborhood for the previous two decades, and enjoys re-telling stories of the oddities and edginess that are portion of residing in that element of Dorchester.

I'm a romantic dork and just got totally played by your "Chuck & Penelope playing bitey games" Anon-- first thought, "Ooh, don't know this ship, but love bitey games where r the gifs?" Read yr helpful response, now have Q for you: do you ever playfully bite your own dogs? Highly recommend with dogs AND cats-- maybe weird, but somehow appropriate, feels like affectionately using their own language.
LOL I saw your question and thought, wait, did I reblog something from a ship that I don’t even know anything about? Then realized it must be about this post, which was in my queue and I forgot about it. The response is not from me. I reblogged it from the excellent blog @why-animals-do-the-thing as an informational piece for dog lovers.
I do not playfully bite my own dogs. I did try it once (a very long time ago) with my beloved dog who died a few months ago, and she looked at me like I’d beaten her with a stick. I did it with my other dog (I love him too, but, well, he’ll always be my “other dog”, and he’s actually quite OK with that), and he pulled away with a look like “WTF I might bite you, bitch!”
I think dogs don’t expect people to bite them, and freak out a little when they do. Properly raised dogs learn that biting is not an appropriate form of play. People should never encourage dogs to play bite them the way they play bite other dogs. So, a dog who has learned not to use its mouth in play, or for any reason, with a human will be very confused when a human bites it. They will wonder why, and know they should not respond.
We don’t really speak to dogs in their own language. Dogs learn our language, and they’re OK with that. That’s their specialization, as a species. They read humans better than any other animal. They do their best to interact with us as humans; We don’t interact with them as if we’re dogs. That’s how the relationship works, in my personal opinion, because if we act like we’re dogs, we encourage dogs to do things that could ultimately end up with the dog being sentenced to death for hurting someone. It’s for their own good that we never, ever encourage dogs to bite us, even in play.
I’m not a dog professional, so this is just my opinion.

Rubin: For Palace and Joe, splendor is inner
One turned into born a unload and the opposite become, well, a Palace.
For sixty-seven years among them, Joe Louis Area and The Palace of Auburn Hills have been awash in cheers and the smell of spilled beer. Now the groups that defined them are leaving, and all we’ll be left with are memories — which, what the heck, is how it’s imagined to paintings.
We’ll consider Karen Newman, for instance, performing “The Famous person Spangled Banner” at Joe Louis more than 1000 times and some dozen times more at the Palace. She’ll don’t forget her twins, 15 now, playing as tiny youngsters in the snow pile amassed through the Zamboni even as she tried to concurrently watch them and the game.
Something their designs, arenas, and stadiums end up large shells built to maintain studies. To a large volume, says College of Detroit Mercy structure professor Noah Resnick, our amusement of them “has nothing in any way to do with aesthetics” — which is good.
The Pink Wings won four Stanley Cups even as residing on the drab, drafty Joe, scenically positioned next to a river you couldn’t see from within the building. The Pistons and Surprise every gained three championships on the Palace, effortlessly reachable from everywhere inside the Metro area so long as you own a helicopter.
To get to Joe Louis, we usually hiked thru a urine-scented hamster maze or climbed 35 steep, snowy steps. at the Palace, we paid $20 to park half of a mile from the doorway. We confirmed up beside because possibilities were that something unforgettable was inside.
Throughout the many years, thousands and thousands of pumps occupied a mixed 40,000 seats to look at hockey and hoops and Area football and rodeo. between the two buildings, there had been Big apple Rangers and Power Rangers, Cirque du Soleil and the Ringling Brothers circus, and Every Workable Disney Person on Ice.
Come subsequent season, the Wings will head barely north and the Pistons will head notably south to the same area Little Caesars Area. In one of the very last echoes of financial disaster and the Grand Good deal, the city will basically turn Joe Louis over to a bill collector. The Palace has events scheduled through a Sept. 8 live performance with Tim McGraw and Religion Hill, and its fate is theoretically undetermined, however, the smart money says to guess the wrecking ball and lay the factors.
Memorable moments
Neither constructing is as universally beloved as Tiger Stadium, where a sellout crowd usually meant some human beings have been sitting in the back of I-beams and others had been jammed midway into one. No one has prepared group hugs for the arenas.
But it becomes Joe Louis wherein a marketing representative from Farmington Hills gave Alice Cooper a boa constrictor, and it becomes The Palace wherein public deal with announcer Ken Calvert became so nationally famed for announcing “Joe DUUUmars!” that he heard himself insulted in a toilet in Chicago.
It becomes Joe Louis wherein dental workplace supervisor Tiffany Barnhart of Lake Orion brought her son to a concert and got here full circle with her mom. And it is able to have been either in which Chrysler salesman Byron Savage of Southfield located himself caught up in a game he only marginally understood.
As a 13-yr-antique coming across rock ’n’ roll, Barnhart once asked her mom if she’d heard of the Beatles. As a 35-yr-old, she couldn’t assist However take into account that communication a few months ago while her son Austin asked if she’d ever heard of Green Day.
She and Austin, 15, had been rocking in the higher bowl on the Green Day live performance March 27 whilst the band broke into “Good day Jude.” That quick, she becomes thirteen again.
Savage, 56, says he’ll be normal for Pistons video games at the brand new downtown Arena. He doesn’t communicate fluent hockey, But he turned into invited to an enterprise suite to observe the Red Wings possibly 15 years in the past.
“I didn’t think I would get into it,” he says, “However I misplaced my voice at that recreation.”
That’s the camaraderie of a large occasion. The commonality. The cacophony.
“For the reason that Roman times,” says Resnick, the UDM professor, sports and so forth “have allowed human beings to break out from their lives and recognition on a person else’s overall performance. They enter the one’s homes and they exit the issues of the town.”
As structures, The Joe and The Palace had been nine years and one philosophy aside.
Search for Joe Louis Area on the internet site of what’s now SmithGroupJJR, its prominent 164-year-antique architect, and you get a failure observe that says, “We’re sorry, However, something went wrong.”
Certainly, Resnick says, it’s exactly what the time and location knew as for. In 1979, Detroit and many different towns had no longer yet found out riverfronts have been assets, and areas have been “large, large sheds wherein the goal become to cram in as many humans as you could.”
The Palace came alongside from Rossetti in 1988 as one of the first to emphasize luxurious suites and hospitality — “an entire Disney experience,” Resnick says, “in which the whole thing turned into approximately advertising and marketing and control.”
The Pistons received NBA titles in their first seasons there, and Calvert’s deep, mellow voice became part of the soundtrack of country wide television proclaims.
