OH! Howdy’s! I wanna get a toy papa.” she has a huge smile on her face. “Ok, let get your shoes on first.” Eddie puts Y/n down and she runs to the mat where the shoes are, and slips on her f/c shoes and goes by the door. “Hurry daddy! They walk into Howdy’s and Y/n goes straight to the toy isle. Y/n looks at all the time and plushies in amazed. “You can get one thing ok? I don't care about the price, just one thing.” “ok papa!” Y/n goes up and down the same isle looking at all the different playsets and kits but one thing catches their eye. A median-sized white dino with a little tiara. Y/n quickly grabbed it, examined it just in case she didn't like the texture, and ran over to Frank. “Daddy! I got wat I waned! Look!” Y/n showed Frank the white dinosaur. “Aww, she's beautiful bug.” she then giggled running around the store to find Eddie. “Papa? PAPA!! Look look!” Eddie then turned around with some other little items. “I got a dino papa!” she then gasped. “dose for me?!” “hehe yes little one, you ready to get checked out?” Y/n then bounced around running to the counter waiting for Frank and Eddie.

“Well howdy there kiddo. What can I do for you?” Y/n looks up and places the white dinosaur on the counter. Frank walked up with Eddie and they place a few things. Some of Y/n and Franks safe foods, a pink bottle and a water bottle. “Well Howdy there, Howdy.” Eddie gives an accword yet welcoming smile. “Hello there fellas, will this be it for today?” “MHM! Daddy can I pay attention for my stuffy?” frank ruffles their hair. “You don have to worry about that. Where getting you this as a gift remember.” “oh, okay!” Frank pays and they leave Howdys. “So what do you wanna do now little one?” Frank asks. “Hmm, cuddles?” Eddie lifts up Y/n and places them on his hip. “That sounds like a plan.”

Rating - Chapter 1. G

Charles Smith has been secretly (not so secretly) involved with long standing Van der linde member, Arthur Morgan. Some members of the gang would say Arthur's influence is part of the reason why Charles was allowed to join the gang. The two souls always had a far deeper connection than anyone else in the camp. Sean tried to crack Charles' cool exterior with jokes. Uncle tried nearly every day to conversate with him. But none knew Charles as well as Arthur. And Arthur knows how important space and dignity is to Charles. When Uncle begins to prod and pester Charles over dinner time, Arthur knows to step in

- Chapter 4 -

The Van der Linde gang is holed up at the Shady Belle camp in Bayou Nwa, Lemoyne

“I don’t like being this far south, Arthur!” Tilly shouted, stomping after the weary cowpoke, struggling under the weight of a choice buck carcass on his shoulder.

“Good a place as any to get chased by the law” He grunted, wiping the sweat trailing down his brow.                                          

“I. am. negro,” Tilly speed up to stand in front of him, blocking hid path to Person’s table where the chubby old man chopped robots veggies for that evenings stew. “Arthur, you know what that can mean for me. I was promised we’d stay out west.” The setting sun set her amber eyes ablaze. Or perhaps it was simply the passion behind them that convinced him to slow down some. A pitiful sigh broke his stark body language. 

 “I know. I’m sorry, Miss Tilly.” He placed a casual, comforting hand on her shoulder which she promptly grabbed to hold in her own. “I’ll keep you safe. I promise. Ain’t nothing gonna happen to yous here.”

“My mama was a slave ‘til she was 15!” Tilly cried out. Mr. Pearson shot a concerned glance Arthur’s way, but the man simply nodded. 

“And we would never let that happen to you. Those men in Rhodes? They’re dead now. We protect our own, and that includes you. You’ll be alright. We all will.”

“I-” Emotion caught in her throat. Arthur squeezed her hand in response and softly let it go, her hand falling back to her side.

“Thank you, Arthur.” Tilly nodded slowly and wandered towards the house.

“Well, that was certainly some smooth talkin’ there, cowboy,” Mr.Pearson greeted warmly, already admiring the prize balanced on Arthur’s shoulders. “What’d ya find out there for me?”

With a mighty grunt of effort, Arthur dropped the buck on the butcher block. “Ain’t nothing too special, but it should be enough to feed the camp for ‘while”

“With this? Hell, we could keep ‘em feed for a week! Thanks, Arthur. I’ll get this cleaned up right away.”

Arthur ran his coarse fingers through the waves of his hair. His scalp was damp with sweat but had avoided sunburn with the hat he always wore. He returned the worn leather hat to its rightful place and eyed the activity bustling about the camp.

“Oh, and Arthur?”

“Yes?”

“Stews ready. Help yourself.”

He nodded his appreciation and stiffly lumbered towards the savory aroma emanating from the cast iron pot hanging about a simmering flame.

Cicadas sang between the milkweeds of the river beds. Flies buzzed past his ear; their annoying, constant hum was his greatest complaint. Humidity could be managed with a dip in the creek or with lighter clothes. The flies? Well, there ain’t much anyone could do ‘bout them.

“So…How are you, Mr. Smith?” Uncle’s voice carried over the sound of Arthur ladeling himself a serving of stew.

“Fine.” Charles responded flatly.

Uncle chuckled playfully. The jeering undertone of the sound caught Arthur’s attention. Uncle leaned over his stew, balancing a spoon between wrinkled fingers. Charles, sat across from him. Begrudgingly, by the looks of it. His large hands curled around his stew bowl, protecting his meal.

“Have you been up too much, have ya?”

“Not really.” The same flat tone.

“Read any interesting books recently?”

“No.” 

Charles shoveled a spoonful of stew into his mouth, chewing slowly, he wished the conversation could end so he could enjoy the meal in peace. In silence. He looked at the ground, ignoring the heat of Uncle’s glare. A pair of familiar boots stopped next to him.

“Care if I join you?” Arthur gestured towards the empty stool which Charles promptly pulled out for him.

“Please. Good to see you.”

“Aren’t it good to see me too?” Uncle pestered but gained no response from him. 

*awkward silence*

“Well, uh…” Uncle desperately racked his mind to think of a catchy conversation starter. “Seen any plays?”

“No.” Charles responded dryly.

“Arthur?”

Arthur paused, a spoonful of stew inches from his mouth. “No, can’t say that I have.”

Uncle huffed, straightening himself up, clanking his spoon against his empty stew bowl. 

“Heard any good jokes?”

“Yeah.” Charles responded, as flatly as ever. Arthur raised an eyebrow at him. Wasn’t like Charles to give into Uncle’s games.

“Well, You fancy sharing it with me?” Uncle snorted.

“No.” 

Arthur stifled a laugh with a poorly placed cough. Uncle glared at him, so he returned his attention to his stew. In doing so, he caught a glimpse of a smirk crossing Charles’ face. 

“Ya know…I’d wouldn’t wanna be stuck in the wilderness with you, Charles. I’ve had more fun watchin’ the grass grow.”

“Please, go watch it” Charles sarcastically mumbled. 

“No, some day, you will warm up to me”

“Humph.” Charles grunted sarcastically

"What are you gettin' at Charles for?" Arthur crossed his arms.

"I should've known you'd take his side."

"What's that supposed to mean? - Wait, Don't answer that. I don't wanna know. Just-Just stop bein' an idiot."

Uncle rolled his eyes. How pointless is this. He'd have better conservations with the horses.

“So, I was thinkin’...” Uncle started.

“Does it pay well?” Arthur jeered.

Uncle chuckled, hiding his embarrassment. “I think I found us a lead. A damn good one, ‘bout the bank in Rhodes.”

Arthur chuckled at the idiocracy. Uncle wasn’t exactly known for his reconnaissance.

“That so, Uncle? How did you come across this…information?” Arthur gestured, the beer in his hand sloshing against the sides of the bottle.

“Met a man at the station. I paid ‘em, of course.”

“How much?”

“Wa?”

“Ya heard me. How. Much.”

“uh…$20” Uncle mumbled.

“Twenty Dollars?! Jesus, Uncle! You shure we ain’t the ones gettin’ robbed here?”

“Yeah, I am sure! I found that lead. And maybe,” Uncle glanced around the camp for prying ears and leaned forward. “I will let you boys come with me. Just no whining, arthur”

“Oh shut up,” Arthur grumbled, smacking the table. “Or I’ll make you whine.”

“Isn’t that Charles' job? Makin’ you whine, Arthur?”

“ tisk - Gimmie this.” Charles yanked the mug of cheap whiskey, warmed by the southern heat, from Uncle's grasp. “Think you’ve had enough.”

Arthur leaned towards Charles, whispering in his ear.

“Can i offer you a libation of any kind?”

“No thank you, Arthur. Im alright” Charles whispered back.

“‘Ight, just dont say i didnt offer” Arthur sat back up, just too tired to glare at Uncle.

“Well, I’m finished. Pleasure eatin’ with you, Uncle. We’ll talk more about that Rhode’s job of yours in the mornin’.”

“Good Even’, Morgan” Uncle waved, like the fuckin dingus he is.

“I better get going.”

“Oh well. You love birds have fun tonight~” Uncle teased.

“Uncle.”

“Yes, Charles?”

Chromebooks dont allow you to change the hardware or software. On mine i cant even change the colors of the tabs because my district disabled it. Thankfully, i own a computer at home that my brother and i wrecked as children to learn how to fix things. But how about that kid who sits across from me, who's family is too poor to have a computer at home? They arent ever gonna get the chance to go and meddle with anything, because the chromebooks dont allow you to.

What about that 5 year old that was given a google branded tablet, where all they can do is math problems on it? They cant go screw up the settings like i could when i was little. They cant do what children do best; meddle with everything on it because theyre curious.

Not being able to go into settings and screw everything up is a big problem. It teaches them to not go into settings to fix something they wannq fix. It teaches them to not bother looking up how to rip that one file from an nwa to an ogg. It teaches them the computer is just the way it is and if it sucks, tough cookies.

And even then, to those of us who are tech literate, its downright annoying i cant play the dino game or go to coolmathgames or even freaking facebook. AND THEY DISABLED LOOKING UP MY OWN ACCOUNT FOR ME ONCE I COULDNT EVEN LOOK UP MY USERNAME.

No, linux will not fix this. They can't change it to linux.

We need to lay more blame for "Kids don't know how computers work" at the feet of the people responsible: Google.

Google set out about a decade ago to push their (relatively unpopular) chromebooks by supplying them below-cost to schools for students, explicitly marketing them as being easy to restrict to certain activities, and in the offing, kids have now grown up in walled gardens, on glorified tablets that are designed to monetize and restrict every movement to maximize profit for one of the biggest companies in the world.

Tech literacy didn't mysteriously vanish, it was fucking murdered for profit.
