I finally have a voice claim for my OC Leidyi! It’s mxmtoon! I wanted to draw Leidyi singing one of her songs and this is kind of what I imagined. She’s in her own world, feeling most confident when she’s alone and among her jelly friends. Little does she know that another troll happens to come across her private concert. In other words, this is the moment Anemone starts to fall for her.

My Man Derek needs more LOVE so here's some HCs I came up with in terms of Derek x You in terms of music

– Bro LOVES the pop girlies, some even more than you do. Espresso was your song of the year, and it was his too! And that warmed his heart more than anything. He got you floor tickets to the Short N’ Sweet Tour for your birthday, even though it was partially a gift for himself as well (you’ve really been helping him learn to be a tiiiiiny bit more selfish). And listen, if he got some ideas during Juno that the two of you used later in the hotel room that’s your business. I will note though, he’s flexible, and way more than happy to be the one in those positions for you.

– Obvi he also took you to the Eras tour too! Twice, actually, because once TTPD got added to the setlist he couldn’t not go see it again! He also definitely did not tear up during So High School, or Lover, or Love Story thank you very much. BUT! he will admit that you slow-danced for Enchanted, since you never got that chance at either of your proms. And that’s all he could think about at his dance. 

– He puts you onto some of the most underrated girls as well! Only know Carly Rae Jepsen for “Call Me Maybe”? Well get ready, because this man is going to give you the lesson of all lessons in why she is an icon in her own right! Same with artists like Mitski and Laufey. He’ll naturally discover bigger artists like Ariana, Billie, Charli XCX, SZA on his own, but he’ll love when you let him show off his favorite songs from any artist!

– Meanwhile you could get him into some of your favorites, Hayley Kiyoko, Gracie Abrams, Janelle Monet (no she doesn’t ONLY act Derek, she can do it all!), MXMTOON WILL BE THERE FOR HIM UNTIL HE GETS TO YOU!, Tove Lo sings more than “Habits” which he can hardly listen to without an internal breakdown. Show him her love songs! “Thousand Miles”, “I like u”, “2 Die 4”all bops and good intros to her! “TALKING BODY” IS ABSOLUTELY GOING TO BE HIS FAVORITE! He loves your body no matter what and he’s proud of his own body, that song is going to have him in a chokehold. He’s heard of Chappell Roan and MARINA but never got into them as much, so you gave him a proper introduction! (Be prepared, he might sob during “Enjoy Your Life” by MARINA, and honestly? “Naked in Manhattan” by Chappell might get him misty eyed thinking about how you didn’t get to come see him in college because he wouldn’t let you). 

– Don’t expect it to just be the pop girlies though! Bro definitely has a whole slew of Spanish speaking artists and Spanish songs to pull out of nowhere. This is going to be what you hear from him a lot when he’s cooking or cleaning as they’re probably what played through his house growing up, so really if you haven’t learned Spanish for him already (which you absolutely should have, man’s worth learning every language in the world for) you’re going to learn through exposure. If you know some songs already he’s going to be so touched! (Let’s be real he’s going to be touched if you know them already OR if you learn them for him so it’s a win either way.) And when you sing along with him? You thought he couldn’t look at you with any more love without literally dying but he sure finds a way to look at you like you’re the entire reason for his being.

– Speaking of Spanish, just learn it for the man, it’s going to mean so so much to him, and honestly, flirting and dirty talk in Spanish??? HOT! And he’s going to find it hotter that you’re trying more than you sounding perfect. 

– ALSO ALSO side tangent get recipes and spend time cooking with his mom! Ain’t no way she hasn’t been making family recipes his whole life! He can only cook the most basic of recipes, so having someone who can cook and takes that time to learn how to properly cook things so central to his life, he would melt! Especially because you cared enough to learn from his mom! He adores that his family and you love each other too and want to do things together!

– Also sort of music related - clubbing! Not really his scene, but if you want to go he’s right there! He’s not going to be mad to have a reason to take you out and show you off, or himself! Those mesh shirts, or the shirts you bought him with the cleavage window that he said he’d wear for you but only at home? This is the perfect opportunity to convince him to bring them out! He’s going to need some convincing but if you really really want him to wear them he will. He’s also going to make sure everyone stays hydrated, one water for every 2-3 drinks, and if he joins you in the drinking, he’s going at a slower pace so he’s coherent enough to get the Uber and get everyone else home safely. Is he going to be the best dancer ever? No! And that’s OK! He’s still pretty decent at it! And neither of you are going to be complaining too much in the club, a few drinks deep, when you can’t stop taking turns dancing all over each other.

– Club dancing might not be his greatest skill, but he knows how to slow dance, and he can be taught things like the waltz, but Spanish and Latin American dancing styles????? You are NOT ready for his moves. Be it Salsa or Tango, you better get some lessons, the man will TEAR UP that dance floor and he can only do it if the only partner he will dance with can keep up. He’s also very good at flamenco, you have seen him move fast, but not while dancing! Take him dancing! It allows him to express parts of his identity that he doesn’t always get to show and I mean, have you seen some of those dancers? So. Hot. And he will absolutely make sure he’s showing off for you, knowing what it does to you and knowing what it means for the two of you the second you get home.

MXMTOON Comes Home to End Tour with Sold-Out Show in Brooklyn

A native of Oakland, Calif., transplanted to Brooklyn, Maia (who keeps her surname private) is best known by the moniker MXMTOON (pronounced: em-ex-em-toon). The singer-songwriter earned online recognition when she began uploading songs filled with ukulele compositions and earnest lyrics to her YouTube channel a decade ago. After releasing her second full-length album, Rising, last year, Maia returns to the original bedroom recordings of her debut EP, Plum Blossom, on her current tour, working up reimagined takes of the 2018 material. She has a history of releasing multiple renditions of her music, offering studio-produced and stripped-down, acoustic versions of her first LP, Masquerade. On Friday, MXMTOON concluded her tour for Plum Blossom (Revisited) with a sold-out homecoming at Brooklyn’s Roulette.  Despite admitted nerves, Maia happily took the stage to open with the fitting lyrics “I walked into the room” for “Cliché.” With her performing acoustic, everyone in the room was singing along from the jump and continued throughout the show. The East Coast transplant shared that revisiting her past material was quite the welcomed reflection on the teenager she was then to the 23-year-old she is now. “The Idea of You” expressed the overwhelming build of a high school crush, but since its writing, the more-confident-with-age singer admitted that her younger self was overdramatic. MXMTOON’s natural ability to be vulnerable translates to her fans not only knowing all the background vocal queues for her songs but also various vlog references like a Josh Hutcherson “Whistle” edit and the “yipppeee” calls. As an outsider to the fandom, I was repeatedly astonished by her followers’ antics, especially on “Stuck” when about a third of the people in the room lifted signs that had Maia happily in tears. The song is an expression of feeling in between identities, which she shares being mixed-race and bisexual.
