You were crying in your sleep again. Andy could hear your whimpering and feel you tossing and turning on his sleep, blinking slowly as he woke up and frowning as he wrapped his arms around you and kissed your forehead and cheeks.

“Baby…” he hushed you gently when you opened your eyes and sobbed immediately. “Aww honey, did you have a bad dream?”

“Yeah.” You sniffled and snuggled closer to him. “It was dark and scary and all I knew was that you weren’t there. I was all alone.”

“Fuck honey, it’s okay now, though.” Andy held your chin and tilted your face up to look at him. “Hey, listen to me. Nothing is going to hurt you. I’m always here for you, I promise.”

“I know.” You rested your head on his shoulder as you started to calm down, letting him rub your back and rub his cheek against your hair. “I know.”

He could always make you feel safe and cared for, even after such an upsetting dream. You felt yourself starting to drift off to sleep again, smiling a small smile to yourself as he started to hum a little tune to help you relax in his arms.

HEY MOOTIEEEE okok;

The character everyone gets wrong - I feel like people misunderstand so many of the characters (as an ex Misty hater who didn't understand the mechanics of a black box I have been guilty of this), but I think the main one is Natalie. I've seen a lot of people complain about how her character is largely based around Travis, but the whole point of it is to demonstrate her trauma-bonding habits and how she EVENTUALLY GROWS OUT OF THAT. While we didn't get a chance to see healed Nat apart from the S2 finale, the show explores how you have this loner girl, who's included with the team and her two friends but at the same time reclusive, with a horrific family life that prevents her from truly connecting with others (ex. Kevin, who she probably never invited over to her house to bond or otherwise EVER again), and a sex life with men who have only used her for her body. You bring her into this situation where she's stranded with the only girls who truly notice her and a guy - Travis, who has an asshole dad who is just lost. Travis keeps people at arm's length, he's got this turmoil inside of him, he's angry and isn't afraid to show it. And Nat is drawn to him because she NEVER gets to be angry- she had to be careful around her dad and take care of her mom. And she sees her inner thoughts in this guy so much. Natalie wants to be there for him in the same way that no one could ever be there for her, and it's someone she can connect with on a personal level, not someone who wants her for her body, not someone who will never understand her, not someone who will idealize her and see her for her beauty. And just as suddenly she's taking bullets FROM this guy and she's falling into the same pattern as her mother, even becoming her. But she stays with Travis for so long, because she doesn't see her father, she sees herself. And so she bonds with him, she sticks with him, she destroys him just as much as he destroys her because she wants to punish herself, and Travis, in many ways, IS her. But the problem is that Travis is also her dad, and she wants so badly to love and hate herself, that she doesn't know he's the one holding all the cards. When she loses him, she loses herself, her other half, her purpose in life, and then he dies and she will never have him in her life again. So in S2, this man who she has projected herself onto, it turns out, really isn't a part of her at all. They are 2 separate puzzle pieces painfully glued together, but they can be separated. That's why Natalie isn't with Travis on the plane to her death. She's with her younger self. Because all along, it wasn't Travis that she truly loved and accepted, and who loved and accepted her. It was the parts of her she had lost and had finally gained back.

Jesus I yapped on the first one so I'm gonna make the next one shorter. For number 8, I think people are wrong about Ben. Do I think it was awful he lit the cabin on fire? Yes, obviously that's fucked up. But this is a man who needs more food than the rest and hasn't eaten for literal weeks at this point. He is anxious, schizophrenic, and totally anti-cannibalism. He just witnessed his only 'friend' (Nat) let a CHILD die in her place and be crowned a fucked up cult leader queen for a group of insane women (and Travis). He is horrified. He is scared. He is on his last leg. Like I said, lighting the cabin on fire was horrific, but whose to say he was next? So I think it can be justified a bit in many extents.

Finally, for number 10, I'm sorry to all my Van loving mutuals, but i genuinely HATE her. I know she's starving and unreasonable but I feel like her character got really fucked up towards the ends of season 1 and the entirety of season 2. Fanon acts like she's the greatest ever but she literally told a guy whose brother she had JUST LET DIE that he was being selfish, and that she didn't regret letting a little boy die when there was a USELESS, CULTISH, HALF DEAD BITCH who was WILLING AND READY to be consumed if necessary that was offering herself up for food. Javi's whole death was fucking bullshit and literally horrific. They let Jackie sleep outside and consumed her dead body but couldn't allow an ailing Lottie to just die when she was already injured? And Van EXCUSING that behavior and on top of that TAUNTING a fellow survivor about the fact they were going to fucking eat his little brother? I feel sick. All the girls are fucked, but Van is especially shitty, and fanon needs to stop making her out to be a fucking perfect angel.

Lottienat

 I love an on the surface opposites attract cynical x hopeful realist vs (albeit extreme) idealist ship but where they actually have a bit more in common than you’d expect. Ticks certain boxes in that 

Nat is a character who to me, is so often wound up and tasked with the provider/protector role or when she’s not and she does accept help it’s removed help like what Tai gives her, I like the aspect of even when Lottie gets on her nerves she can put Nat at ease enough to be taken care of like in the 2x05 scene and generally in their adult timeline scenes 

Lottie can really benefit from someone pragmatic and critical like Nat, I think she assumes only her blind followers will really care about her and Nat meeting her as an equal and clashing with her but still caring  proves her wrong 

Taivan

first of all just everything about this current storyline for adult them! so good!! the references to how Divorced they are (and I think it adds definitively more flavor to know they were together at Shauna’s wedding, we know their break up (at least the last one). The mix of affection that’s there are wariness, and harsher tensions especially on Van’s end so good! And while Tai is definitely operating primarily from a selfish place and as per Tawny’s interview not a very romantic one towards anyone love that she seems slightly more tender/is concerned by Van’s lack of tenderness when it is Van. Also in my I love adultery in fiction era in a sense so this arc arrived at the perfect time for me! 

Both pairs of actresses have such good chemistry imo definitely some of the best I’ve seen for canon wlw ships recently. Especially Jasmin & Liv’s is so strong and also like… warm in a way that’s so charming.

Like Lottienat it’s a believer/idealist x skeptic/cynic ship and I like that concept for a ship

Jackieshauna 

starting with something i don’t think I’ve specifically focused on as much when I talk about them but that I definitely feel strongly about: I love them as an exploration of complicated grief… like there are just so many different layers to Shauna’s grief and it’s such a huge defining loss like that time she told Callie about being given Jackie’s uniform for her 40th birthday and feeling like she’d spent so much of her life thinking about her… and I love the Jackievisions for that reason too (also in a more strictly romantic context just the idea of being haunted by a love in that way rules) 

I just love these types of relationships (which anyone familiar with me and my tastes would know) these codependent teen girl friendships that end tragically in some way. And women “making/shaping” other women in terms of crafting their image or what they emulate. the element of literal consumption and just the focus on consumption of all sorts with them adds another layer/takes the concept to a level most shows wouldn’t commit to in terms of exploring the idea I’m very into all of it. 

phrase I say a lot about romance: it’s about the Repression tm + also the Obsession tm

17. “I’m going to ask you how you are and I would like you to answer me honestly.”

You can ask for as many as you would like, bring on the pain and the comfort. And I’m gonna do Nat and Peach again, because they’re so good for hurt/comfort.

Nat watched you closely as she continued working at her desk, her brow furrowing when she recognized the look of frustration on your face that you always tried to hide but were never quite able. You’d been staring at your phone and flicking through it for the past twenty minutes, and the fact that you were completely silent meant that you were upset.

“Peach…” she sighed when your expression got even more sullen, rising from her seat and coming to join you on the couch while you continued staring at your phone. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing.” One word answers were also standard when you were feeling ugly things you didn’t want to talk about. “Go back to work.”

“Not gonna happen, little girl.” When you refused she reached out and tapped the top of your phone, smirking when you let her pull it out of your hands and set it aside. “Look at me, peach.”

You did it, grumbling and pouting the whole time before crossing your arms over your chest. The way she had worn you down so you would communicate with her at least a little bit made you hate her just a little bit. That wasn’t how you did things, you just wanted to bottle your feelings up and keep them in until they went away, no matter that the strategy had led to blowing up pretty much all of your previous relationships. But she was still so patient and so understanding and so mature about this emotional shit, damn her.

“Now, I’m going to ask you how you are and I would like you to answer me honestly.” She tutted when you opened your mouth as she recognized the word before it even passed your lips. “Do not say it’s ‘fine’. You know it’s not true and I know it’s not true. Tell me what you’re feeling right now.”

“Angry.” Fuck her, now you were crying, but then she pulled you into her lap and let you tuck your face into her shoulder. “Some of the girls I used to work with started gross rumors about our relationship, and they forgot that I’m still on the group chat. It’s really mean.”

“Lemme see.” Nat picked your phone back up and let you unlock it for her, frowning as she scrolled through all the messages calling you a whore and a useless little sugar baby, among even worse things. “That is very mean. Are you upset because just because they’re mean, or do you think they’re right? Because they’re not. I love you, more than anything else in the whole world.”

“I knoooooow.” You whined and tilted your head back so you could look at her face. “I know, you tell me all the time. And I love you too. But then people say stuff like this and my insecurities flare up.”

“Well, I’m always here to reassure, Peach.” Nat kissed the top of your head and smiled when you let out a huff that let her know you were starting to calm back down. “Do you want to watch some tv with me? And order some take out?”

“Yeah.” You let her wrap you in a blanket and turn on the tv, watching her when she got up to call the Italian restaurant you guys always ordered from. As much as you hated talking about your feelings, you loved when she made you feel better, and you didn’t know what you would do without her.
