Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some recent action figure bullshit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I referenced these pictures. I wanted to do something to make Moxie's office out of wood paneling and green art deco clam shells, but the idea was flawed from the beginning because of the height of the "wall" not working right with the size of the action figures- I'm rusty.
There were more pictures of Moxie with test set, but it's more of the same, except for the fact that I replaced the duct tape arm band on Moxie's right arm. I've had to replace it a number of times over the years- stops being sticky, gets sticky in the wrong places, gets hair and other fine fibers embedded into it, so on and so forth.
Replacing the arm band is like a turning of the page, I guess. Are we really in a new age of AFB? It's not the only piece I'll have to replace. Little hands got on Douglas and Trent at some point and we lost some of those pieces I use to cover up the Star Trek logos. I'll have to study some frames to get as close to the original accessories as possible. All for the best, as those pieces were also suffering from similar issues. Another issues is that the duct tape comes apart, and then you get this gross stringy stuff sticking out.
Tumblr media
Then there's the TNG proper stuff, which I usually reserve for other blogs, but whatever I do with this is going to be a close neighbor to AFB. I think some of this is new to this blog. I did discuss my killer deal for this bridge playset. It's not perfect, as far as a collector's item goes, but for a maquette to make stupid videos? It's perfect.
Three of these action...
FOUR of these action figures have been modified. That poor Wesley Crusher action figure has been through hell and back, drawn on with a Sharpie, strange scratches on it- it always had odd scratches on it. I remember a time I was considering harvesting this action figure for spare body parts for Moxie. I've hated the pose they gave Cadet Troi, a pose they also gave the Lily and Seven of Nine action figures- were they trying to make them look sexy or something? Just makes them useless as ACTION figures.
It is what it is, though. Whatever we do with Moxie, it has to be done with the limitations of this broken Cadet Troi action figure, and in recent years, I decided to give this action figure a season 2 look, in addition to trying to fix the paint job. Wesley's hair was lightened, as it was Sharpie'd black, and his eye were changed from blue to brown, since Wil Wheaton doesn't have blue eyes. On that note, why did they give Gowron brown eyes? I've got about four of them, one of them should get baby blue eyes. Another one should be tweaked a bit and made into Captain Kavok. IYKYK.
Some of the modifications on the other three are more subtle. I changed the shoulders on Riker. Imagined these uniformed action figures as having a black triangle on top of their department color which goes with the black on the shoulders- they supposedly call that the yoke. Call it what you may, but I didn't like how that triangle lined up with the rest of the yoke, so I repainted it.
Riker's beard is also painted on and a slightly different color. Black isn't the right color, and Trent actor "Wyatt" mused on how it looked different- not to criticize, but maybe I thought I deliberately went with a different look.
Actually, I took off the beard with acetone so I could have a season one Riker. I've seen a number of mods onilne where they've used Cadet Riker (Douglas in AFB), but it looks wrong, as Cadet Riker looks more like a kid than a 29 year old played by a 35 year old. Using a regular old Riker head does come with problems, though, as the beard is sculpted into the face, but just barely. I don't have faith in myself to be able to file away the beard without destroying the head. Similarly, I leave his hair alone, though I'd like to reduce the volume on it. What we have here is definitely mid series. I have wondered if I should add to it, which isn't what we saw in the show, but what we did see in the hilarious YouTube mash up "Acid Trek".
I'll just leave it all one, with this 80s TNG Riker able to switch between seasons with a slight paint job.
I did add to Data's hair, which was all over the place throughout the series- pick any season and you have episodes where his hair is longer, and episodes where he looks like he just got a haircut. I believe his hair was the longest in season 2, though. Weirdly long. Data's hair is extended with cotton from cotton balls and black paint. This makes the texture on Data's hair look wrong, but with the cameras I'm using, it probably won't be noticeable.
Further back is something I'm surprised I haven't yet encountered on the internet- season 2 Worf. When they released the season 1 Worf, it was a lazy re-sculpt, like everything else. None of these season 2 Picards, Data, Rikers, La Forges, etc. look like they're wearing those ridiculous spandex jumpsuits. The uniforms are still basically the two piece outfits from season 3 onward, but with no collar and shoulder piping. This is a larger problem with Worf, whose baldric is basically the one from season 2 onward painted gold. Nothing about it looks like what he actually wore during the first season, which was an identical version of the baldrics worn by higher ranking TOS Klingons, save for two episodes where he was wearing a shitty version, which looked a piece of burlap sack.
By putting this action figure in the proper security division colors with a silver sash, this action figure becomes a decent season 2 version of Worf. Funny they never did this, but decided to release a season 2 Geordi, which is basically what I did.
I did this paint job a few years ago, so the color has flaked off, and I'm not sure if I can mix it properly again. It's not perfect, but then again, Data and Geordi don't quite have the exact shade of mustard yellow green, either.
I still don't know what little video I should make out of this, but I wonder if the plot and story are less important than the angles, which I think will really sell it. Though there's always an ever increasing attempt to mix things up as the series progressed, for the most part, many of the shots of the bridge are basically the same or follow the same rule of thumb. I should simply try to recreate these shots, the make my story around those available shots.
If I get serious about this, though, I will do them in proper 4:3, which I found out too late, is actually a better choice for doing action figure shit, or at least that's how I feel about it today. If I had to redo everything made for Chaos Corridor, I would do them in fullscreen format. Similarly, you can't do a TNG video in widescreen. So many of those shots must be old school because it's the reason things look the way they do, the reason people have to stand so uncomfortably close to each other, which is perfect if you're filming action figures. It allows you to worry less about the background, what's in it, and you get more of the action figures you're wanting to film, front and center.
All this said, I hope I was still able to convey the sensibilities of those shots from 35 years ago. Take, for instance, the wide shot of the bridge. Note how every face is perfectly visible, not obscured, no mergers. In fact, it doesn't look too far off from a TNG shot, or perhaps like some of the ones we saw in Star Trek Picard- and I feel like some of those shots looked weird or not quite TNG because it wasn't in the old aspect ratio and they were using a replica of a set that was meant to be filmed with that ratio in mind. Voyager's bridge might work a lot better in widescreen, as it was a wider bridge, and as result, I feel like the 4:3 ratio didn't do the set much justice. I wonder if they filmed the show "action safe" for 16:9 as they did for season 3 onward for DS9? The reason you can never do TNG in widescreen is because the idea of widescreen versions of TV Star Trek weren't seriously considered this far back, and so with the original film negatives, sure, they were in widescreen, or at least, you could expand out to widescreen, but you'll see a bunch of film equipment.
This is more about Star Trek than the action figure stuff, and I want to keep to the action figures.
Oh...
For what it's worth, before I hit "SAVE" and all this text appears with these photos...
I got double stick tape.
Typically, I've not bothered much with animating walking, and I'll probably try to film around it if I do stuff for these TNG action figures, but I might try to give more of a hint of walking, and if I have to raise a leg, the tape will come in handy. It's been a long time since I used it. Is it corny to blog about it? My excitement for dollar store double sided tape!?!?

2K Games is getting ready to release the latest entry in the WWE 2K series with WWE 2K20. This seems to be a rather ambitious project which will bring a lot of new features for gamers to enjoy.
MyPlayer & MyCareer
For the first time ever in the franchise, gamers will be able to create and play with a male and female MyPlayer in MyCareer mode.
youtube
Of course, if we’re bringing female characters for MyPlayer, it only means we should be able to have a Mixed Tag. This is coming, too. You’ll be able to play as both superstars, and you’ll team up together in different mixed tag team matches throughout your career.
Expect to go through 18 different chapters in your career, including aroun 100 different matches and interacting with over 40 WWE Superstars from every brand, as well as legends during this game mode.
At A Glance
[su_spoiler title=”MyCareer at a glance” style=”fancy”]
For the first time ever, create both a female and male MyPLAYER and take them through MyCAREER, playing storylines and matches as each character and occasionally teaming together with the all-new Mixed Tag match feature.
Unlock WWE Legends, Career specific Superstar attires, original characters and unique environments like “Hell’s Colosseum” and a special New Day themed arena.
At one point, Red and Tre cross through an interdimensional portal to try to find the Undertaker who hasn’t been seen in years, encountering various surprises along the way.
MyCAREER is fully voiced again, this year featuring performances from nearly over 40 WWE Superstars, NXT Superstars and legends in addition to over 15 original voiced roles. Interact with newly-voiced Superstars such as Ronda Rousey, The New Day, Becky Lynch, Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, The IIconics, Samoa Joe and more.
Track Red and Tre’s career progress with “The List” – as teenagers Red and Tre write down all the goals they’d like to someday achieve, which later becomes their road map to success. Can you cross off their final list item and get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
At certain points in MyCAREER, the decisions you make affect the matches Red and Tre compete in, who they team with, and possibly even lead to some alternate outcomes. Explore different choices to see what paths they might lead you down.
Podcasts are back this year, including “The Buzz and Cole Show” featuring the return of Buzz and Cole Quinn from WWE2K19’s MyCAREER.
[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”By the numbers” style=”fancy”]
18 chapters
Approximately 100 total matches
Over 2,700 lines of dialogue
More than 900 lines of new commentary unique to MyCAREER matches and cutscenes
Over 270 cutscenes
Around 20 hours of total play-through time
34 career goals on Red and Tre’s List
1 bionic arm
[/su_spoiler]
Soundtrack
If there’s one piece of the game that becomes key for WWE 2K20 is its soundtrack. We are normally able to just leave the game running on the homepage and listen to all the cool music. This won’t be any different as we’ll have some nice music besides the obvious superstars’ entrance music.
WWE 2K20 will include the following 12 tracks:
Banks – “Gimme”
Barns Courtney – “99”
Bring Me The Horizon ft. Dani Filth – “Wonderful Life”
Grandson – “Stigmata”
Lil Uzi Vert – “XOTour Llif3”
Motley Crue ft. Machine Gun Kelly – “The Dirt”
Muse – “The Dark Side”
Poppy – “METAL”
Saweetie – “Icy Girl”
The Black Keys – “LO / HI”
The Misfits – “Hybrid Moments”
Watt ft. Post Malone – “Burning Man”
You can get this playlist on Apple Music.
What about My Universe?
I don’t know about all of you, but when it comes to WWE 2K games, I focus quite strongly on the Universe mode right after I’m done with MyCareer. This all means that we need a well debugged version of this game mode. Here’s everything you’ll get in this mode.
[su_spoiler title=”Universe Features” style=”fancy”]
Major and minor show match limits have increased from 7 to 9.
Pay-Per-View match limits have doubled from 7 to 14.
The number of championship titles per major show has increased from 6 to 7.
Simultaneous rivalries on major shows have increased from 3 to 4.
Pay-Per-Views can be co-hosted by up to 3 major shows versus the previous 2.
Players have more freedom to delete and add promos and matches.
50 of the most-used cutscenes have been reshot with female mocap actors to look more authentic when female Superstars are used.
25 new cutscenes have been added.
3,040 new promo lines are in the game.
Custom Matches can now be included in Match Tables, along with new Mixed Tag Matches.
New Championship Match setting in Match Tables can be used to make certain matches a title match.
Main Event matches in Match Tables have been tweaked so that those match types are more likely to occur on the show (Example: Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View).
New rivalry content includes options such as low-intensity enemies making peace after a single Pay-Per-View or low to mid-intensity allies slowly falling out over several weeks instead of a sudden turn.
The overall menu flow has been streamlined to make it more accessible to those new to Universe Mode. All deeper options are still available for experienced players.

16 Millimeters: A Maizie Albright Humorous Mystery by Larissa Reinhart
16 Millimeters: A Maizie Albright Humorous Mystery Cozy Mystery/Romance 2nd in Series Past Perfect Press (October 17, 2017) Print Length: 320 pages Kindle ASIN: B074TW9MZ8
#StillAWannabeDetective In continuing her career-makeover quest as a for-real detective, ex-teen and reality star Maizie Albright has a big learning curve to overcome. A sleuthing background starring in a TV show— Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective—does not cut the real life mustard. It doesn’t even buy her lunch, let alone extra condiments. Her chosen mentor, Wyatt Nash of Nash Security Solutions, is not a willing teacher. He’d rather stick Maizie with a safe desk job and handle the security solution-ing himself. But Maizie’s got other plans to help Nash. First, win Nash’s trust. Second, his heart.
Wait, not his heart. His respect. His hearty respect.
So when a major movie producer needs a babysitter for his hot mess starlet, Maizie eagerly takes the job. But when her starlet appears dead, and then not dead, Maizie’s got more than an actress to watch and a missing corpse to find. Body doubles, dead bodies, and hot bodies abound when the big screen, small screen, and silent screams collide. Maizie’s on the job, on the skids, and on thin ice, hunting a killer who may be a celebrity stalker. And Maizie just might be the next celebrity who gets snuffed.
Interview With The Author
What initially got you interested in writing? Reading, I’m sure. I’ve always written stories since kindergarten/first grade. I used to write lists of all the words I knew in preschool. I think I’ve always loved words.
What genres do you write in? Mostly humorous mysteries although I’ve venturing into romantic comedies, which are a similar voice to my mysteries just with less dead bodies.
What drew you to writing these specific genres? I love humor. I love crime. I love romance. They’re wonderful thrown together.
How did you break into the field? I’m really lucky. Although I’ve always been interested in storytelling, I didn’t write a full novel until I was thirty-nine. In school, my creative writing and English teachers liked my writing and encouraged me, but I never wrote more than short stories. Mostly I just played around with stories inside my head. But while we were living in Japan (the third time), I wasn’t working, my young children were in school, and I finally took the time to write again. After about eighteen months, I returned from Japan with two manuscripts. One will never see the light of day and the second was PORTRAIT OF A DEAD GUY. That book sold to Henery Press the following year. And I’ve been scrambling to write down and publish all the stories in my head ever since.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works? I hope they’re entertained. I’d love it if I made them snort or at least, chuckle.
What do you find most rewarding about writing? Hearing from my readers. Particularly readers who are going through a hard time and found my books helped them escape for a little while. Books have always been an escape from me and I’m glad I can help others in this small way.
What do you find most challenging about writing? The middle of the book. I hit about 30,000 words and everything stops. Which means I need to pull out of the story, read what I’ve written, and think about what really needs to happen before continuing.
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field? Read a lot in your genre. Read outside your genre. Go to writing conferences. Join writing groups, professional — like Romance Writers of America or Sisters in Crime— and private, like a critique group. Write every day. And thicken that skin!
What type of books do you enjoy reading? All sorts. I’ll get on an author or genre kick and binge. I’ve been on an Ira Levin and Elmore Leonard kick lately. I love Young Adult and Historical Romance as fun escapism. I always read a classic horror in the fall. I read a lot of romantic comedies and chick lit. Huge Southern fiction fan. Mysteries, of course, both classic and contemporary. The occasional thriller. SciFi and fantasy sometimes. Classic literary fiction. I read non-fiction if I’m doing research. My main criteria for reading (except non-fiction) are the characters. If I don’t connect or like the characters, the book doesn’t work for me.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you? Most people find it interesting that I’ve lived in Japan four times (I just returned to Georgia this May) and my family was on HGTV’s House Hunters International while we were living in Nagoya, Japan this last time. We’re the “Living for the Weekend in Nagoya, Japan” episode. Sometimes we’re a rerun!
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work? Join my newsletter at http://smarturl.it/larissanewsletter. You can also find me on Instagram, Facebook, Goodreads, my website (larissareinhart.com) and other social media channels, although I’m mostly a Facebook/Instagram girl. If you join my newsletter, you’ll get a free short story and get access to exclusive giveaways and contests.
Thanks so much for having me on!

The Moxie Conundrum
Here’s an idea that combines some of what Wyatt came up with and some of what Rachael came up with-
By the end of the video, Moxie dies. I was starting to think Moxie should do a little more napping on that couch, and eventually, someone shows up and she’s not breathing... and her arms pop off.
Moxie’s dead! Greta cries, although she’ll cut through her grief and panic just long enough to say she knew she saw Moxie’s arm detach. Greta starts to flip out about being with the corpse of their captain, and how they’ll be hung for her death, that kind of stuff, but then Douglas assures her that they’ll just make another one.
...what? Greta is confused.
Douglas explains they will go to the 3D printer and make a new captain like they always do. Trent tries to stop Douglas from saying anything further, but Douglas is an oaf, but also doesn’t want Greta to panic, but, as Trent tries to say, and then has to stop himself, the Greta model never handles the truth of her existence very well, that being that they’re all just replicated from a file on the main computer, and that there have been thousands of these characters, possibly more, and no one really knows who the donors were or how many generations THEIR copy on file is.
Sure enough, Greta flips her lid and storms out. Trent says he’ll “put in an order for the Skipper... again”, and that Douglas should just go ahead and dispose of the old Moxie.
Douglas and Trent muse on all the failed Gretas who, like the one we’ve been watching, had a psychotic break and took off into the depths of the ship, rejecting her old identity. There was a black haired one, there was the Nazi who had an affinity for a certain video game company, and there was the serial killer, and the hippie- maybe Douglas and Trent agree that “Sunny” was fun to hang out with.
What ever happened to her?
Murdered by Serial Killer Greta, along with the others.
Oh yeah!
Like it’s nothing, and why not? There’s always another one.
And then, if I want to ruin it... after a pause, Douglas says:
I wish one of them would have liked me back.
Trent: ...Douglas?
Douglas: Yeah?
Trent: D-------t.
And then cut to the TV room- they’re back there, watching DS9. Newton makes a demand- he moved the TV back, so he wants a little civility. Hopefully, I can piece together some Moxie lines, to where Moxie offers a mumbling of cautious support of the idea... and then immediately jump Douglas...
...and again, these lines are taken from an audio commentary for a Star Trek episode. I don’t remember which one it was, only that it was one of the last dozen or so. From this we get lines that are to the effect of:
“You know, I wish I could fuck my own ass!”
And it becomes this full circle shit with the story ending where it started- Newton objects to the raucous behavior, and the gang fights back. Has this been going on forever, this little loop? How much of the events of Chaos Corridor did the new Moxie and Greta retain?
It’d be a fun twist that would hit a lot of the notes I wanted to hit when I first came up with AFB- these people are replicated, and far from the first or first generation copy, that Greta doesn’t handle the truth about herself very well with weird results, that Greta may or may not have been conceived as a Nazi, which was actually a nod to an idea of Jane’s that would have been a follow up to that Nazi episode of original Star Trek- Jane would have played a space Nazi... named Greta, and when I first started getting this together, Jane was going to play Greta, and Rachael play Moxie, but then Jane provided lines for a no-dialogue short video, I suppose the first “AFB” video, and I knew this had to be the voice and personality of the Cadet Troi action figure. Luckily, Rachael had a better feel for Greta, so it all worked out, my own Marina Sirtis / Denise Crosby swap.
I feel an urgency to at least write out how this thing is supposed to end, get it in script form and record it ASAP. I’m always going to kick myself for not doing that in the first place, and whenever I had Jane do work for me, I always encouraged her to throw in anything she wanted, and often, she did.
Which reminds me, I think I have a new project-within-a-project for Chaos Corridor. I need to track down, document, and archive every known recorded instance of her voice. Obviously, a lot of it won’t sound like Moxie at all, but I would like to keep Moxie’s “Jane concentration” as high as possible before going with the plan to have her voice change be some kind of plot point.
