디스코(Disco)는 1960년대 말 흑인 게이가 드나들던 뉴욕 나이트클럽에서 발원했다. 영화 '토요일 밤의 열기'가 개봉한 해는 1977년. 즉 흑인 서브컬쳐가 10년 사이 주류가 돼 버린 것. 어릴 때 심야 TV를 통해 보면서 존 트래볼타 춤추는 게 야시꾸리하다 느꼈었는데 디스코가 게이 문화였음을 알고 나서 재시청하니 이해가 갔다는...

며칠 전부터 내 유���브에 그 시절 비지스 노래에 맞춰 춤추는 영상이 뜨던데, 재미 삼아 보다가 문득, 몸치 + 사람들 앞에 나서는 걸 싫어함 + 비주류 덕후 기질이 다분한 나 같은 캐릭터는 이렇게 끼를 마구마구 발산하는 춤은 절대 못 따라 하겠다는 생각이 스침과 동시에 음악에 맞춰 걷기만 하는 땅고가 있어서 다행이라는 것과 딴 욕심 내지 말고 그냥 땅고나 계속하자고 다짐하게 되더라는...

예전에 키좀바 추는 지인이 말하길 자기들은 스텝 한번 안 옮기고 '꿀렁꿀렁'만으로 한 곡 출 수 있다고 하길래, 나중에 찾아봤더니 그쪽 용어로 '따라싱야'라 하는 것 같다. 그걸 보고 다시 한번 든 생각은 땅고에는 꿀렁꿀렁이 없어서 다행이라는 거. 요즘엔 살사, 바차타를 비롯한 대다수 커플 댄스가 관능적, 도발적으로 변해 버려 비집고 들어갈 틈이 사라졌다.
