*Wanted* Zomer Expo is looking for ‘Water Works’

ZomerExpo organized by ArtWorlds is the largest national contemporary art exhibition held at a Dutch museum, consisting of works of art selected anonymously after open registration. The annual summer event, first launched in 2011, is an amazing barometer of artistic taste. Everyone who creates art is invited to participate.

Summer 2017, the exhibition Water ZomerExpo 2017 takes place from Thursday May 25th until Sunday August 20th at Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle and the Castle Nijenhuis, Heino-Wijhe (Overijssel). Two stunning locations, were the selected works of ZomerExpo participants are presented in a mix with museum collection works connected to the Water theme.

Wanted: Water Works

For Water ZomerExpo 2017 ArtWorlds is looking for paintings, drawings, films, animations, 2D- and 3D-prints, videos, sculptures, installations, performances and scale models. All disciplines are welcome, as long as the work of art relates to the Water theme in one way or another. Artists pay € 30,- per submitted artwork.

Anonymously Selected

Five preliminary rounds (‘voorrondes’) are organised in different cities in the Netherlands. During these days a 15-person jury consisting of gallery owners, curators, art critics and artists selects 250 works of art in total, all of which have been anonymously submitted. Each distinct work of art has to speak for itself – and it is only its expressiveness and intrinsic quality that count, since neither the names nor the backgrounds of the artists responsible for the works are revealed during the selection process.

Sales Exhibition and Catalogue All works presented at the exhibition are put up for sale. Of the prices, a 30% fee is been transferred to ArtWorlds. Photographs, texts (by the artists themselves) and prices of the artworks will be included in the catalogue accompanying the exhibition.

Activities

At the time of the qualifying rounds and during the exhibition several lectures, courses and workshops are presented to the artists and their public, reflecting on the Water theme, artistism in general and the contents of the actual exhibition. These activities are all free for participants and museum visitors.

All works of art selected for the exhibition are potential winners of the encouragement prizes.
