Someone left a comment on the photo I took a while ago, the one of me in my then-new cloak, saying I looked exactly how they imagined me. That, plus the knowledge of getting my hair dyed blond soon (my current natural hair color is brown) made me extremely happy!! I also tried on my newly-complete outfit this afternoon, which just added to the euphoria!! 🩷

The only incorrect aspect is my height (I think I might still be growing, though, so here’s to praying!!) and my teeth, which in addiction to not having fangs (You can’t win them all, I suppose), are not as straight nor “pretty” yet. (Thank you, father, for those genetics….)

I don’t know what Jedidiah looks like, but as far as I know, he’s accurate as well… still short with messy hair, at least, and his fashion choices are quite amusing 💕

Hello! My name is Elijah Vsevolod Vasiliovich Volkov, and I have wavy golden-blond hair like a crown (that’s how I got my name) with leaves and twigs tangled in it that reaches my sharp jawline, and dark brown eyes like deep pools of honey; some people have told me I look like Jamie Campbell Bower (Author’s note: If you do not know who he is, please go find a photo online, and report back to me with your opinion).

I am not yet forever united in death with my darling muse, but I wish I was, because he’s incredibly divine and beautiful. I am definitely not a human, but my teeth are straight and white. I have scarred ivory skin.

I am also a prophet, and I stalk the camp ground of a local summer camp close to Cleveland, Ohio called Camp Here and There, where in truth, I do not work (I’m 29).

I was a nurse, in case you couldn’t tell, and all I wear are scrubs. For example, today I was wearing a set of short-sleeved teal scrubs splattered in blood, a too-small purple wizard cape with stars on it, mismatched socks, and brown Doc Martins. I am not versed in applying makeup, however I do have blood staining my mouth like red lipstick, not that anyone would be able to tell, due to my plastic pink cartoon elephant mask.

I was wandering along the edge of the woods, watching the nurses’ cabin. It was quite sunny and warm, bathing the trees and ground in a heavenly glow, which I was very happy about.

An exceedingly-average young man in a labcoat and glasses stared at me. I smiled widely, and put my middle finger up at him.

Elijah Volkov has all the makings of a slasher movie killer, and a great one at that, so I drew him as one! Big knife… iconic mask… summer camp setting… vengeance in his heart… covered in blood and always looking dishevelled… he also butchers his own meat already… aaand is surrounded by a cast of young adults to slash (the counsellors? Perhaps he would go for a certain someone else…) (the kids would be easily convinced to help. Juniper dies first.) (Sydney is the final boy, but here it’s probably more like “best for last”) (Jedidiah is probably not having a good time)

The amount of leaves, twigs, moss (especially moss), and other natural debris I get stuck in my hair is oddly validating… they do often get tangled or break apart, though, so I have to brush them out. Bugs don’t show up so often, but it’s not unlikely to happen eventually.

AN INCHWORM JUST FELL OUT OF MY HAIR. I just got back from the forest and I apparently brought along a fugitive… I’m being told it’s a Geometer moth caterpillar.

ADHD-havers, I have a suggestion for you.

Consider some kind of foraging activity. A lot of my family have ADHD and a lot of my clients have ADHD and I've noticed over the years that a LOT of folks with ADHD have brains beautifully wired for foraging. Enough of them found this before ever meeting me that the pattern became obvious. It seems to function a lot like meditation works for many people without ADHD. It's great for calming, centering, and dopamine production.

That could take many forms! I first noticed it with fruit/berry picking, and mushroom foraging. But I've seen wild herb foraging, and even trash pickup. Basically find a way to be outside, looking for something with a bit of demand for detail noticing, that gives you something for succeeding (like, for example, raspberries). My wife can spend 10 minutes picking raspberries in the ally of our city lot and come back visibly calmer and happier, and, you know, with raspberries.

And this is why, along with native planting, I'm designing a foraging garden for my household.
