@lxvenderhxzehv / closed starter / emilia atkins setting: the daily grind
It had only been a day since he arrived and Tommy was already confused with the ration system. Sure, money was a factor in his life in NYC, but definitely not like this. It was just too early to slowly figure this out and he wanted any kind of coffee to get through.
So he held up a finger to the poor cashier, laughing awkwardly as he tried to make sense of what he had and what he could give. Some of it slipped from his grip to the floor and as he began to pick it up, cursing under his breath, he came face to face with yet another Atkins.
"Emi..." He said, sighing in relief. "I swear, I will explain but I'm losing it." He shook his head, wrapping his arms around his friend quickly before pulling away with an exasperated expression. "Please help me."

not to be a petty vindictive little bitch but I'm so happy that the wuthering heights casting is making people mad and causing them to realize that emerald fennel is not all that. I have been in the anti emerald fennel trenches since day one but all the "let people enjoy things" saltburn lovers kept trying to silence me. She's a shitty writer with unoriginal ideas, too rich and out of touch to create anything with interesting social commentary and as we are now seeing had little respect for the source material she's choosing to adapt. If emerald fennel has no haters I am no longer on this earth.

If I had a nickel for every time a male character of a Netflix series hit another man on the head whilst they were on a boat and the scene was shot in black and white, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

"I know you can handle it yourself, but it doesn't mean you should to do this on your own." [Hicks to Ripley if your up for it. Also hello!~]
Tumblr media
"..." She paused, and glanced over the control panel towards Hicks. Somewhere in her occupied mind - she acknowledged being still in survival mode. It was the first thing she woke up to, and what always shadowed each of her actions. Somehow, she couldn't brush that off her mind. That awful feeling, that something might happen - while she least expects it. On top of that, they were running the place with an AI and far below minimum allowed size of the crew - things like breakfast and chat were the last in her list of routines. Maintenance and trying to figure out what next after barely making it alive, it all added to the stress.
"The more everyone can do on their own..." She started, but quickly paused. Considering it a while. "...but if you don't have anything on your task list... and..." she glances him from toe to the head. "You can make it. Come, we're heading for maintenance check for the power and pressure in generator room." || @backonmybullshit91 (helloo!)

'On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles (who would go on to write, direct and star in Citizen Kane, one of the greatest movies of all time) narrated a radio adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic Martian-invasion novel, The War of the Worlds. The only problem was, Welles was a little too effective, a little too scary with his narration. The CBS Radio Network, a mainstay of American entertainment back then, received panic-stricken phone calls nonstop, from viewers who actually believed Martians had invaded our planet. A Midwestern sheriff wanted to pursue legal action against CBS because half his town had started running amok in the streets. It goes to show just how impactful a good radio dramatisation can be.
I was reminded of this little slice of radio history while listening to Audible’s superlative new adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian novel1984. Written by Joe Wright, the adaptation features an original score co-written by Muse singer and lead guitarist Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri, and performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra. The all-star cast is led by Andrew Garfield and Cynthia Erivo as Winston and Julia, respectively, the young lovers whose relationship is also an act of rebellion against the all-seeing Big Brother and ‘the Party’. Andrew Scott (seen most recently in Netflix’s miniseries Ripley) is smooth and terrifying as Mr. O’Brien, Winston’s Party colleague who he suspects is secretly a part of the rebellious ‘Brotherhood’. And the inimitable Tom Hardy pitches in with a flawless cameo as the voice of Big Brother himself. The whole thing, at 200-odd minutes, is split up into seven parts.
Two things you’ll notice immediately about this adaptation — it is intensely cinematic and it takes considerable liberties with Orwell’s text. For example, Big Brother watching all of his citizens courtesy omnipresent TV screens is described as “surveillance” (a decidedly contemporary word) throughout by Garfield’s Winston. Generally speaking, the text is condensed in a way that minimises ‘third-party’ lines such as portions of police files, newspaper clippings, extracts from fictional texts and so on. The reason this works so well for this adaptation is because of the first point I mentioned: its intensely cinematic nature, thanks to Bellamy and Eshkeri’s superb original score. In almost every chapter, the score begins on an ambient, orchestral note and it keeps the sense of urgency rising with every minute, until the last one-third of every chapter signals paranoia and despair with every note of the music.
But really, this 1984 depends largely on the star power and stellar work put in by its A-list cast. Erivo, especially, is a revelation as Julia. Although I was familiar with her recent record on TV (HBO’s The Outsider is one of her home runs), this was the first time I heard her doing voice work, and she is incredible. The romance and lovemaking scenes between her and Garfield maintain a sense of fragility that is paramount to Orwell’s text.
Garfield’s big moments typically happen at the end of every chapter, when Winston is usually second-guessing the motives of Julia or his friends and colleagues, wondering whether one of them is secretly a part of the dreaded ‘Thought Police’. When he watches O’Brien during a public gathering, for instance, Winston swings wildly between pegging O’Brien as a member of the Brotherhood — and the polar opposite, his ‘day job’ as a member of the Party’s inner circles. See how the dialogue reflects this boomerang motion — Garfield’s work is cut out for him here and he expertly steers the audience between hope and hopelessness.
“I caught O’Brien’s eye. Just for a fraction of a second, but it was long enough to know. Yes, I know now O’Brien was thinking the same thing as me. I’m on your side, Winston. And just like that, it was gone. O’Brien’s face was as inscrutable as ever. Such a fleeting moment that I questioned whether it happened at all. But I know it did. And it keeps alive in me the hope that it isn’t just me…”
As the passage above shows, this is Orwell reimagined through contemporary, Netflix-era snappy dialogue. Purists might take exception to the wholesale cull of the original Orwell lines but for the purposes of a radio adaptation, I found the abridged version to be just right.
Audible’s 1984 provides a great starting point to this 20th century classic for beginners. I am quite sure that a significant portion of these listeners will go back and visit (or revisit, as the case may be) the original novel to expand their horizons.'

Been slowly forming a headcanon that Ripley and Maverick are good friends and Ripley picked up a lot of skills and bad habits from them. It's borderline serious and crack hc at the same time and I love it.

“You know, it is really hard to make a name for myself that doesn’t involve being called the chief’s kid when you keep coming down here to check on me randomly. I’m fine, dad. I know what I’m doing. I learned from the best after all.” Whether he would actually listen to her and what she was trying to say was yet to be discovered. // @lxcusriplxy

very much in love with the fact that everyone is in collective agreement that Catgirl should NOT have died and also in denial of her death because me too.
Also may I interest you (again) in @mewos-box 's Excellent Theory about who Catgirl may be so we can manifest hope that she's still alive and kicking?

Damianik moments that keep me up at night because they're underrated and my favourites part2 since you lot liked the last one!!
Damian Priest blasts Bad Bunny through the announce table
- Lesson we should've learnt a long time ago: Don't touch the princesa
First thing about this, I don't understand a word Dom & Rabbit are saying because I don't speak Spanish (ironic because I'm part Spanish) but I know Rabbit pissed Dom off leading to the throwing of hands in Dom's defense.
Damian's just like what the hell's going on here? With the "You didn't need to get involved bro." He's just SO disappointed in Bunny's nosy arse💀 You see he tries sympathising with the rabbit for a bit before Bunny pushes him and he doesn't seem too phased till Dom steps in to back up his Papi and Bunny socks him and Damian's just like you know what, fuck it. You asked for it. And humbles his ass.
Tumblr media
Dominik randomly groaning in Damian's ear. HELLO?!?
Tumblr media
Look at them.. LOOK AT THEM!!
(You shouldn't have gotten involved = Don't touch my boy.)
Segment after Dominik's match with Gunther
- His boy
Tumblr media
Besides Dominik and Damian speaking Spanish and the others having no clue what they're saying (privately communicating)
DAMIAN TRYING TO HIDE HOW HE'S A GIANT SOFTIE FOR HIS BOY.
(The way his voice softened )
Tender protective Damian will be the end of me someday.
---------------------Photo Album--------------------
- Selfies
Tumblr media
Look how adorable they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soft. Smiles. Just soft and smiles.
Tumblr media
DAMIAN WITH A BABY DOMINIK.
- Close proximity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've posted the first photo already but it's just so precious it deserves a spot on here.
Pretty self explanatory. (I like to think the second photo is Damian whenever he's had one too many to drink.)
[ That wraps it up for this one! Let me know if you want to see more because I'll gladly deliver:) ]

@ofescapisms / closed starter / victoire dubois setting: their apartment
Tommy was trying to pretend that everything had been normal since the lake incident, not just with the town but also with Vic and their friendship. He was trying not to overthink it—he wouldn’t go through that all over again—but her hands, that sigh, saving him from drowning and then staying with him all night, it all would've sent him into a tizzy. It was still possible that it would now, too. He couldn't. He wouldn't. From his work bag, he was writing notes in a script from home in some attempt to find anything new for the high school students to try. Something at least a bit more modern.
As Vic entered the living room, an idea came to mind. Normally, he wouldn’t need to rehearse it, but maybe that would help the two of them go back to some form of normalcy. “Hey Vic, are you busy?” He asked, keeping his eyes on the papers he had been working with. “I need someone to help me work through this script for class. I'm an absolute mess.”

saltburn is an annoying movie to me bc people on here keep acting like it's literally the most interesting audacious sick and twisted thing ever as if it's not just talented mr ripley with every compelling piece of social commentary and depth taken out and replaced with glitter and "sicko" scenes that don't serve the movie and exist purely to shock people who only watch children's cartoons and get upset when movies have sex scenes in them.
