It had been almost two years since their separation began. Rory had seen a few people but nothing stuck. His heart had been aching for Nico. He had spent the last two years in constant therapy trying to improve himself so that he could be the man Nico deserved but still as he sat in front of the divorce papers he’d had his friend write up he was conflicted. Work at the hospital had been challenging to say the least. Avoiding Nico wasn’t helping but they still managed a few passing glances. He wondered if Nico’s heart had broken the same way when Rory took his suitcase and left. Now they owned two houses and lived almost two separate lives.

Rory felt like he was ready but he had no bases for where Nico’s head was.

Nico had likewise been in therapy, having gone at least twice a month for the past two years, more at the start. He felt like there had been a significant amount of growth for him as a person. In the years he'd been finding himself more too, having even grown out his hair into a stylish semi-leaf cut. It was a big thing for him as minor as it seemed and he was finally starting to feel like himself rather than the person he had been groomed into as a child, he took it as nothing but a good sign when his father had told him he didn't approve of the stubble on his cheeks and had taken it in stride. He had a single strange cat and a moss ball as the only other living things in the house so it was a welcome surprise when his phone buzzed as he was getting changed into his civilian clothes in the surgeon locker room.

Shayne helped Rory fix his hair once he was seated in the wheelchair, making sure he looked good, though in his opinion he always did. “Why do you say that? From what I’ve seen, he seems to really like you. What aren’t I seeing,” he asked, despite Rory joking, he truly wondered what he meant from that.

Nico felt himself honestly getting a bit flustered, something that didn’t happen to him in sexual situations often anymore. “Anything would look good on you,” he replied softly, smiling and taking a slight step forward as she sucked on his fingers. “As far as I’m considered though, you’re already a sexy nurse. You wouldn’t even need to dress up,” he added.

Rory was glad his three moth case was finally over. He and Nico were happy abroad and he’d been in America for too long, he couldn’t wait to get back to his husband. He had made it through TSA and he was figured he’d call to check in.

“Hello love.” He smiled hearing him answer. “I am glad I caught you before you went to bed. I am in the airport. Still have about three hours until boarding. But honestly. By the time you get to work in the morning I should be landing and on my way home to you.” He grinned. “And how I have missed you.”

Rory was rushed into the ER experiencing chest pains. It had been going on for a few weeks but he was hiding it from Nico hoping it would go away. Shayne was beside him having been with him when he collapsed. “Rory Kim. Been complaining of chest pains for about to weeks. Couldn’t get him to come in before now but he collapsed at work.” Shayne babbled putting his hand on Rory’s knee but removing when he saw Nico.

Nico had been rushing to meet one of a handful intake patients, not even having processed that his husband was in the waiting room, talking into his walkie as he passed by. “Stage caved in at some high fashion thing, lot of models need help, all available hands on deck,” he said quickly into the walkie before going to the ambulance bay to greet one of the frankly beautiful people who’d been injured as a nurse took Rory’s vitals.

“His breathing is shallow, is it alright if I hook him up to a breathing machine,” the nurse asked, noting a sort of blueish tint to Rory’s skin. “Mr. Kim, stay with us. I’m going to get a doctor to verify what’s happening and we’ll proceed from there. Do we have your consent for any emergency surgery?”
