Ila crouched down to look at his foot; his ankle was swollen. “You made quite a tumble there,” she weakly smiled, her voice tinged with worry. “But nothing I can’t heal before your next match.” She drew water from the waterskin she carried around her waist. it gathered underneath the palm of her hand and started to glow; it was a soothing and warm sensation as the water moved over the swollen area.

The healer chuckled and shook her head. “Geralt, eh?” She responded, a small smirk tugging on the corners of her lips. “Ila,” she introduced herself, her eyes roaming over his rugged features, his golden eyes not lost on her. They were fascinating. Ila took a sip from her drink and swirled the deep golden liquor around; it reminded her of his unusual set of eyes. When he enquired about her travels, she gazed up from her glass. “Mhm…” she thought for a moment before answering him. “No, not in particular. It depends on where I feel like going,” she said with a shrug. “I suppose Skellige does have its charm—folk are definitely different there, don’t you think? Always in for a brawl,” she chuckled, taking a large swig and emptying her glass. The liquor burnt on the back of her tongue; she needed more and gestured for the proprietor to pour her yet another glass.

“And what about you, eh? Ever been to the South Pole?”

Cat-like pupils followed the woman's hand as it handled the mug, in fact that seemed to be primarily what the man paid attention to most times. And as Geralt slid his mug to the side, allowing the container to be filled, the witcher nodded, "much obliged."

"Though I can't say that I'm totally comfortable accepting free drinks from a total stranger, instead of 'witcher', you can call me Geralt. What's your name?" Reclining slightly into his chair as he took a sip of the drink.

Resting the cup in front of himself, the white wolf nodded, "Makes sense, there aren't enough of us to fill even a city-dweller's days with a regular witcher sighting, and swords tend to struggle when fighting monsters underwater."

"You usually make port here? Or do you favor places like Skellige more?"

“Babe? What’s all this?”

When you’d gotten home from work that evening, you hadn’t expected your kitchen counters to be covered with ingredients.

Your boyfriend just smiled a little sheepishly, but shrugged innocently.

“I wanted to surprise you,” Quinn said simply.

“When congratulations, I’m surprised,” you mused.

Quinn just laughed, cheeks a little pink with blush as he leaned down to kiss you in greeting.

“Hey,” he murmured.

“Hey yourself,” you murmured back.

He smiled sweetly, pecking your lips in another kiss before standing upright again.

“I know you’ve been missing home…”

Well that was blunt. Quinn wasn’t wrong though. You’d moved to Vancouver to live with Quinn and take your relationship to the next level only six months ago – and while everything had been fairytale-levels of amazing, that didn’t mean there weren’t stumbling blocks. Like your homesickness, that you’d thought you’d done a good job of hiding.

“…and I just wanted to do something to cheer you up. I called your mom, and she said that you love baking in the Autumn, like all the spices and stuff are your favourite, so I thought maybe we could bake together?”

His voice trailed off in a hopeful embarrassment, but it was all you could do not to cry. This man. How were you gifted a man like this? Quinn noticed the tears in your eyes and immediately groaned.

“You hate it. This is making your homesickness even worse. I’m so dumb, I’m sorry, I-”

“Quinn, no, you’re not dumb at all. You’re the sweetest man ever. I love this idea,” you interrupted, laughing a little watery with a big smile.

The relief that spread across his face was immediate and dramatic.

“Really?” he asked.

“Really really,” you nodded, “What are we making?”

“I thought we’d try something easy? Chocolate chip pumpkin banana bread?” he said, “I found a recipe online that looked okay and I double checked with your mom too.”

So sweet.

“That sounds amazing, Quinn. Are we baking now?”

“It takes an hour to bake in the oven so I figured we could order take out now and eat dinner while we wait for the banana bread to cook?” he suggested.

Your man with a plan.

“That sounds great to me, baby, thank you. I’ll get changed out of my work clothes and we can start?”

“I’ll order dinner while you get changed,” he added, smiling.

In no time at all you were back in the kitchen in comfy sweats and an old t-shirt, take-out order being processed, while Quinn scrolled through his ipad for the recipe he saved.

“Okay, so first off, we’ve got to mash all these bananas. Shall I do that while you measure out the dry ingredients?”

You nodded, smiling up at him as you reached for a mixing bowl he’d already put on the kitchen counter. You whisked together the flour, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, dark chocolate chips, baking soda, baking powder & salt, and after mashing the bananas, in a separate mixing bowl Quinn whisked together the oil, sugars, eggs & vanilla extract until no lumps remained.

“That’s lump free, right?” he frowned, peering down into his bowl.

You glanced over and nodded. “Yeah that looks great baby.”

Quinn beamed back at you.

“Now we’ve just to combine the bananas into my bowl with a cup of pumpkin puree, before carefully stirring your dry ingredients mix into my bowl too,” he explained.

Somehow the two of you managed all of that without making too much mess.

“Last step is pouring it into the lined loaf cake tin and baking it for an hour. I already pre-heated the oven so we should be good to go?”

After you’d combined all the ingredients, Quinn’s face was as serious as you’d ever seen it as he carefully carried the loaf tin over to your oven, and you tried to hide your smile as you opened the oven for him.

He really cared, didn’t he? He cared so much.

“I’ll set a timer for an hour. I don’t want it to get burnt,” he frowned.

“It’s going to be amazing, I already know,” you said softly, resting a hand on his chest.

His frown softened to a sweet smile. “I just want this to be good for you.”

“The fact that we did this together is what made this good for me. The cake itself is an added bonus,” you said, smiling up at him.

A light blush spread across his cheeks and he nodded, sliding his arms around your waist to hold you closer to him.

“As long as you’re happy, I’m happy,” he said warmly.

“With you, how can I not be?”

I have to ask, as someone who didn't connect with Rhuidean as it was written in the books, how did it land for you in the show? Did Rand actually having a deep emotional reaction to it here help?

good timing, i was just about to muse on this! i will treat this as my Episode Reaction Post.

and alas, i have to say, i felt pretty much the same as i did in the books: objectively, it's a great sequence, but subjectively, just doesn't really pique my personal interest or hit me emotionally. with this episode, i can 100% see why people are raving about it, but it simply didn't hit me that way (again, not at all a knock on the episode or a criticism of it, purely personal taste! this was as perfect an onscreen adaptation as the rhuidean sequence could've had, but that sequence at its core just isn't one i connect with. i think i'm just always going to prefer the main present-day story over a journey through fantasy world history, regardless of how well the journey is presented.)

josha playing all the ancestors was an A+ choice and definitely helped with the emotional investment, but i'm still left with the feeling that even though this is rand's big focal episode, to me it didn't feel like it was about *rand* that much, but rather more about worldbuilding and world history and the aiel than about present-day rand himself as a specific character (which was indeed my initial hesitancy when it came out that the big rand episode would be this one). but i know i'm in the minority because all other rand fans are so thrilled with this episode, and i'm not too fussed about this either since i know present-day rand himself as a specific character has plenty more stuff to come that will hit me better! and josha really got to flex his acting muscles in this episode, so it was definitely a josha focal episode even if not so much a rand focal episode. still, when i compare this to the nynaeve & egwene focal episodes, those two absolutely blow it out of the water in terms of "how emotionally affected was i, how much more connected did i feel to the character afterwards, how much deeper an understanding of the character did i gain" (i will say that for rand as a specific character, 1x08 moved me more than 3x04 did and i can feel the brains of all other readers exploding in rage when i say that djkfgjh but for me it's because the 1x08 dream temptation stuff is really about RAND in such a specific way that tells us so much about who he is and what drives him). this episode will probably wind up low on my personal episode rankings, both for the season and all time. but feeling like i'm having a stroke while the entire rest of the world raves about the rhuidean visions being the best scene in the whole series is an integral part of my WOT experience, so i'm fine with that being maintained again in the show version hahaha

the only actual "critique" i have (that isn't just "personal taste makes me not that invested") is that it would've hit a little better if they'd been able to squeeze the tuatha'an into perrin's storyline in ep3. totally understand there wasn't space for them yet, but i think that especially for show-onlys who haven't seen or thought about tuatha'an since 2021, getting ila et al reintroduced to us *before* the big reveal that the aiel splintered off from the tuatha'an would've increased the impact. in my opinion, anyway! i'm definitely REALLY curious to see show-onlys' reactions to this episode and see whether they're as excited and mindblown by the world history trip as readers expect them to be or if they're more like "okay, cool, but can we get back to the main story?"

A simple and sweet moodboard! The Promposal CG is easily one of my favorite Aiden moments in the game, as is the scene where they're on Hearst's rooftop together and Aiden tells MC that they're his muse.

A sweet short story about an older Aiden and Evie moving out of their long-time family home, after their kids (OCs still pending) have grown up and moved out. I love imagining Aiden and Evie in their more elder years; in my headcanons, they're certainly a "high school sweethearts" couple that stays together pretty much the rest of their lives and happily grows old together. Seeing the two of them being so affectionate with each other as an older couple is just precious.

And it also fits so well with my headcanon of Evie being a very sentimental and nostalgic person! She values memories a lot and has a tendency for visual/physical associations with memories, so her holding back to look around the empty house and go through the years of memories is spot on.

I'm a total whore for seeing guys sitting on their ladies' laps, and Aiden and Evie were captured perfectly here! Aiden grinning and blushing with his arms wrapped around Evie's neck/shoulders is just super adorable, like you know that man is *proud* to be her boyfriend. And likewise, Evie is proud to be his girlfriend, and holding him him close to her by his waist which is such an Evie thing for her to do haha.

This is based on an edit I did of Aiden in the premium prom dress option for f!MC. Evie is of course wearing the premium suit option from the game, and seeing them share a dance in those outfits– especially with Evie dipping Aiden– is a dream come true.

The mood is just perfect with the two of them grinning and looking into each other's eyes lovingly! And the background that's mostly dark except for the lighting behind them really captures the feeling of "the world around you seems to fade away as you focus only on your partner" that is so very *them*.

ILITW: Jo x Lucas after a party ft. Jo bridal carrying a drunk Lucas, drawn by @oh-so-youre-a-nerd (for February 2024 Secret Pal event)

This one is based on a Q&A headcanon I had about Lucas being the bigger lightweight at parties and how he likes to be bridal carried home by Jo. The artstyle is so perfect for the ILA characters, and I love seeing Lucas drunk with his hair and glasses and sweater all messy! Jo gently teasing him is definitely something she'd do.

Both of their outfits are spot on for them. I especially love the open flannel shirt and the carabiner, they're definitely things Jo would wear. Lucas having a lil earring isn't something I'd thought about before but I am very here for it. And of course, their rings!

I am in love with the Evie x Aiden banter here. They're captured so perfectly, especially Aiden! I love seeing the description of Evie's "tell" to Aiden and all the little details in his behavior. And you know I'm obsessed with Evie calling Aiden "Pretty Boy"! Evie loves her beautiful nerd bf.

I also love the mention of Aiden getting into video games with Nishan and Sakura. I don't know if I ever shared it, but one of my oldest HSS headcanons is actually that Evie and Aiden like to do gaming double-dates with Nishan and Sakura fairly often (and that Aiden is initially kind of crap at most computer games haha). So this part is very on-point.

A drawn version of a scene from the story, and frankly it delivered! Evie getting to lift Aiden!!! They both look so beautiful!!! The way they look at each other!!!! The way she holds him!!!!! The way he holds onto her!!!! It's so *them*. Everything about them is just perfect.

And the mood lighting with the city in the background makes it all the better. I always had a thing for cityscape views, especially when it's lit up at night– and I like to think that that sort of aesthetic goes well with Evie and Aiden. And it looks amazing in this piece for sure.

Everything about this is so precious! Harper and Tom look so good in this artstyle, especially Tom's smile. He's an absolute ball of sunshine and it shows. He deserves all the love. And Addison is happy to give him all the love and kissies.

And I love that you included the detail of why Harper would wear the pink-and-grey casual outfit option! While I'd say red and black is her preferred color scheme and favorite colors, she definitely loves to wear pink-and-grey every now and then too. Through the hustling and bustling of the festival, Ila rushed through the crowd with a bunch of children chasing after her. They were hurling snowballs at her. Ila dug and jumped over any object that was in her way. The children were having a hard time landing a snowball. Nevertheless, they came all at once when Ila stopped in her tracks after she recognised a familiar voice that she wouldn’t expect all this way back in the South Pole. “Opal!” She exclaimed, waving her hand as the children were having fun bombarding her with snow. “What brings you—EY! Watch it; not the…” Ila wiped the snow off her face; she signalled their little play was over when she walked up to Opal. “I assume you came here to celebrate the Glacier Spirits Festival this year? It’s extra special this time around with the spirits joining us,” she brightly smiled.

Kya glanced over when Ila murmured home, clearly there was still a lot of pain for her. Not surprising considering what she had gone through, Kya knew that she would've struggled with Ila's experiences too. That kind of pain never really seemed to go away. Sure, some days could be better than others, but it could always resurface at any time. For now though, she made no remark on it. She could tell that Ila was doing her best to push any of those thoughts back and now probably wasn't the best time to try to pull them back up.

Kya smiled, "I'd love to travel with you soon~" She was pretty sure that her mother would be alright if she were to go on some travels. Kya would be sure to write (and put some pressure on her brothers to check up on their mother more often in her absence). "I've been wanting to travel more again." A small, almost wishful sigh came from the woman. She had never really wanted to stop, but she had felt like her mother had needed her more at the time. Plus, it had been easier to move her life back there than it would've been for either of her brothers, or at least, that was what she had told herself.

"I've always loved traveling. There's so much to see out there." And so much to learn and people to meet. There really wasn't much that she didn't enjoy about traveling, besides perhaps not seeing her loved ones as often. The freedom that she felt from her travels made it worth it though. She hated that feeling of feeling stuck and it just made her feel sorta heavy in a sense.

"We'll definitely make a lot of great memories out there. I'm sure of it!" Sure, there were memories that could be made other ways too and she had good memories with Ila, despite the two not having traveled together before. It just seemed like an ideal bonding experience for the two. "Is there anywhere in particular you'd like to start our journey?" Or perhaps they could just drift along in whatever direction felt appropriate when the time came.

There was a silence for a moment when her aunt commented that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to live down there. It didn’t surprise her, as she was a wandering spirit—much like Ila herself. Even so, there was a difference between them; deep down in her traumatised heart, Ila wanted to anchor herself down somewhere safe and sound, a place to call home. A protection that would shield her from the cold. A longing she didn’t allow herself to ever admit or feel. It was easier to run and be on the move, never staying too long in one place, all to avoid the loneliness creeping back in.

Ila hugged her knees tighter as she furrowed at the thought. “Home…” Ila murmured more to herself than to her aunt. She hadn’t felt at home anywhere since that dreadful day. She was still so young when it all happened and… No. No more! Quickly, Ila pushed the thought of her pain back where it belonged. It was a constant pain that gnawed at her heart. Rearing its ugly head in the middle of the night as she screamed at the top of her lungs, waking up in a cold sweat. Nightmares. Nothing new.

Ila tried to regulate her breathing for a moment as her heart started to pound against her chest. Forcing herself to think of something more enjoyable, like all the places she has been throughout the years. The different cultures and their traditions she was lucky to experience. Their world had so much to offer, and she embraced it all; it made her all the more richer despite having little to no coin to her name.

Her heart had calmed down a bit, and she managed to force a smile as she gazed at her aunt, who sat down next to her. “It is.”

“Aunt Kya,” she said softly, “we should travel together some time soon.” Her lips tugged into a genuine smile now. “I think it’ll be great.” Ila’s gaze flickered from her aunt’s face to the great expanse in front of them. “It’ll be an experience for sure,” she added, musing.

“No, just whatever we’re doing today,” he said simply.

Perfect, just what you wanted to hear.

“Do you think, maybe, after we’ve finished eating we could pick up a couple of pumpkins?” you asked hopefully.

“Pumpkins? Uh, sure, why not?” he mused.

You could tell he was humouring you so you figured it was probably best to get your thoughts out in the open.

“I thought it would be nice to carve pumpkins together. For our first Halloween. I know it’s dumb but it could be fun,” you admitted.

Brock’s smile faded a bit, and he quickly shook his head. “It’s not dumb. Not even a little bit. And it’ll definitely be fun!”

“Yeah? You don’t mind?”

“I don’t mind at all. I can’t remember the last time I carved a pumpkin. Can’t always guarantee I’ll be around, you know? And I hate the thought of coming back from a roadtrip to something rotting on my front porch,” he said, grimacing slightly at the end.

Okay yeah he had a point there. And it only made you more determined.

“Lunch, then pumpkin shopping, and then pumpkin carving. Let’s do this,” you grinned.

“I’m not going to lie, the guts are way more slimy than I thought they’d be,” Brock said, pulling a face that made you laugh.

“I’ll separate the slimy stringy bits from the seeds later – roasted pumpkin seeds are such a good snack,” you mused.

“You have the best ideas,” Brock grinned.

You felt you heart flutter as he leaned forward and pecked your lips in a kiss, trying to keep the heat from rushing to your cheeks. Even after all these months, the way he handed out compliments like that still affected you so much each time. Not that you were complaining, not really.

“Do you know what you’re going to carve?” you asked, wiping your hands clean and dry on the dish towel you’d brought over.

“Hm, something easy? I was thinking something like Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas?” Brock suggested.

“That’s such a good idea!” you grinned.

“Not too simple?” he said, wincing slightly.

“No, not at all. It’ll look really effective with a candle in too,” you nodded, smiling.

Brock smiled warmly back at you, pecking your lips in another kiss before leaning back to pick up a small pumpkin carving knife.

“I can do this. I can totally do this,” he murmured, mostly to himself.

“I believe you,” you teased.

“Laugh all you want baby, when these turn out amazing I am absolutely showing these off to the team. Maybe even Instagram,” he shrugged, unperturbed.

“Well damn, I’d better come up with a good design myself then,” you mused.

Brock just laughed.
