@bloodycrxwn | Evelyn and Blair, Evening of the Masked Ball
If it were up to Blair, they would abandon this godforsaken charity ball and make a beeline for the heart of the city. He could split a box of egg tarts with Evelyn (and pretend like she didn't eat more than her half), undo his tie and roll up his sleeves, and just enjoy their first trip together in months. Alas, familial obligation keeps them at the masked ball, making nice with fake-friends and social climbers. "I don't care how charming people think I am. I hate these things." Blair puffs his chest, purposely singing his own praises to get a rise out of Evelyn. Laughing, he rounds a corner, attempting to back away from the crowd. "How much longer do we have to stay? I thought we could explore Lisbon while we're here." Leaning against the bannister, he lifts his chin at her coyly. "You actually look like a Princess, for once."

If he spared it a longer thought - the Wright's and the Gillies have more similarities than differences. There's a wish for power; by the Wright's in keeping close to the crown, and by the Gillies wishing to take it for themselves. But Blair has long written off smarmy, Montgomery Wright as a self-important peacock with no sense of fight. Like most Englishmen, he's better at dancing and obfuscating than ever winning a fight. "Well, I wouldn't want to waste your time." He answers dryly, the insinuation clear - it is Blair's time that is important, not Monty's. "So long as no one in this court recognizes it ias their own." Unfair, perhaps, to assume as much of Monty... Then again, where else did the finest rubies come from? At the question, he cannot resist a scoff; "That's family business." However, he betrays himself by adding - "I'm sure you've bought plenty for the Queen of England. Anything to keep beneficiaries on side, right?" And though the French were not yet, it is pivotal to the Gillies' rise to power to ensure it.
As his fun && games, at wordsmith at play, came to a screeching halt with the shrewd call out, a frown appeared on the irritated dealer’s chapped lips; and he held back a huff of indignation. “ At least you come with intent. So many haven’t a clue what they TRULY desire until I show them. “ Which was, really, the scam of it all. A withdrew a small notebook for taking orders, requests, and notable mentions. “ Rubies, diamonds, clean, got it. “ He drowned in a bored tone, feeling little NEED to preen && fawn to impress the Lord. “ Everything I provide is clean by the time it reaches the hands of it’s new owner. “ Montgomery did not leave loose ends, and the security of his clients was key to a successful business. And successful indeed, especially with the mirage of royals parading through Versailles with such reckless abandon. He had picked up nearly a dozen forgotten, lost precious trinkets, to be stashed && stowed until forgotten, then peddled off for three times the original price, he was sure. “ I was not going to ask why… but since you brought it up; the Queen of France? “ A smirk twisted over his features, head tilting. “ What do YOU have to gain by flattering The Queen? “

a closed angry/hate sex starter for my dude @bywhatitfedon
"Just shut the fuck up." The tiny Latina growled as she yanked on his hair, pulling his body flush with hers. Their lips crashed together in an intense and slightly aggressive kiss. The kiss was a mess of tongues and teeth as both fought for dominance. She gasped as she felt her back hit against something hard, possibly a door. She wasn't sure, nor did she actually care. All she really cared about was the feel of his erect cock straining against his pants and pressed against her thigh.
She was still half dressed, her skirt bunched up around her waist, while her top was hanging haphazardly off her body, exposing her bra. She had hopped up to wrap her legs around his waist, letting him press her against the hard surface as they made out.

He is in knots the moment her name is said, in a posh English accent no less. But in moments of hardship, Blair always thinks; what would Evelyn tell him to do? And more often than not, the answer is to protect those she cannot. He can see Joanna vividly; red hair and bow stomping through Versailles, hot with purpose and rage. Not a thought for politics or even the life of others. He knows it, because he feels the same way. "The Palace is under siege." Blair answers after a beat, matter-of-fact and unflinching. They said it once, and it remains true - they are Scots. Violence does not scare them. It is the loss of their own kin that scares them.
"Lord Alistair is spreading the word. The French Queen and several other monarchs are trapped in the main room." Never mind burying the lead, he sighs. "They are being held - by imposters impersonating the Bourbon's guard." He readily deserves Joanna's lashing, and perhaps if she were not, it would be he who spoke with such rigor. "And what happens when you walk into the main hall with that?" He gestures to her bow and arrow. "They will kill her - or better yet, kill the French Queen and say she did it." It's what the Gillies family would do to the Stuart's, after all. "Jo," Blair attempts to soften. "We will find a way for her to escape, once we know their numbers and their size. I promise it - I love her, just as you do."
You'd be surprised what one can get done with a quill and parchment, Joanna merely thought to herself, but did not have the audacity to say out loud, to give anyone any indication at all of the scheme she and her fiancé had gotten themselves into. Though their efforts had been more focused on the tasks at hand, she would be damned to forget that little bit of extra money flowing in that would soon belong to both of them. She began to speak again, turning only to see the British noble speaking to Blair. A Scot and an Englishman in conversation without fists being thrown surely must have meant something terrible. The search parties. Had someone not made it back? She can make out a few words; hostage, main room, royals, spies.
"What is it," she does not ask, she demands, hands tightly placed on her bow, though it is at ease by her legs. Whatever it is was, she was prepared, dressed and ready to run head first into anything. But it is Evelyn's name that sparks a deeper fire. Her sister needed her help, that much was clear. "Don't what?" she challenged through gritted teeth, "Do not rescue my sister? Do not fight back? Do not show them that they cannot just take whatever they want? Blair, they took my sister!"

Rewatching Gossip Girl and actually getting super into it and omg early season 5 Chuck was rly him at his best. I’m on season 5 episode 4 and I don’t want to punch him? For like the first time ever? He’s finally leaving Blair alone, he’s got a weird semi-friendship with Dan, he’s finding true joy in caring for a dog - the writers rly set up a lovely arc that shows how toxic and undesirable Chuck and Blair’s relationship was and allowed Blair to slowly find power within herself again, all while actually beginning to make Chuck almost sympathetic (a task I would’ve thought impossible), and tied everything together with a Dan-Blair relationship that suddenly seemed like the obvious path for these characters that might have even been subtly building up since the very beginning of the show, then threw it all away at the end of the season just for some last-minute fan service that required some insane retconning to actually try to justify narratively huh? It’s just so aidhjenwhsbaiwnwbi. Anyways long live dair ig.

There’s one fandom theory born out of rop that manages to unravel the arcs of so many characters and if we really want to get to it and how problematic and deeeeeeply misogynistic it is then we can. but for now, I have maiar, daughter of Sauron and Galadriel celebrían in my blacklist. It’s incredibly easy to create an original character that’s a child of that union without ruining not only celebríans arc but also Elrond and Galadriel and even Sauron let’s be real. And if people are not ready to have that conversation in an open forum and understand the reasons why it’s misogynistic then we have much bigger issues on our hands.

@swordsandcrownsxx | Early Afternoon, Isolde and Blair, Outside of the Infirmary
He is not a shrinking violet, nor is he a wallflowers of any kind. Blair puts himself into the action, over-compensating for his lack of birth right and insecurity with charisma. He plays it well, almost appearing like a true blue Gillies. But in the company of those closest to him, there is no need to play or pretend. And for the most part, no one does with him, either. Joanna doesn't hide the lovesick twinkle in her eye, when she talks of her betrothed. Evelyn is shameless in her passion against the French, and those who support them. Yes, the Stuart girls are honest to a fault.
All except for one. The least likely of the three to ever lie. The tender-heart, the kindest soul... The one who could hide away her secrets, because she is a master at putting others at the forefront.
"Is," Blair stops hers, whilst she makes a move to exit the infirmary. Isolde's dedicated her days in there now, with baskets of herbs and potions in hand. Offering a smile, he places a brotherly hand on her wrist. "I can barely get a hold of you these days. Can we sit down?" A long pause, and he lifts a worried chin at her. "You are scaring me."

It's often said that the Gillies' are rulers in all but name. A steadfast command of Southern Scotland and ancient influence that made them indispensable to the Stuart's. Even if they were the largest threat to their rule. It's what made Blair's ongoing relationship with both his family and the Stuart's so complicated. He's loyal to both, and therefore, left with a feeling of disloyalty. Fortunately, he only runs into his brother's wife after he leaves Evelyn with her sisters. It's no secret just how close Blair is with their rivals, but he still manages a sheepish shrug. "Had to make some attempt at discretion, right?" He nods at Shiv, flexing his hand. "You look amazing, Shiv. Which usually means someone's about to hurt."

"It brought her no joy to tell me first." He reminds her, tone void of any motivation other than kindness. Isolde may be the one dying, but it is Joanna and Evelyn who have to mourn her loss. Without saying as much, he knows the task Isolde puts upon him. He would need to take care of them both, in her absence. "I'm sure she'll understand, eventually." Isolde had sworn him to secrecy - which meant that she wished to keep her fate as private as possible. But it is for Joanna and Isolde to contend with. Even in this, he is careful not to overstep. Blair may be family, but he is not a Stuart, and he offers a hollow smile. "No, she wouldn't want that. She's insistent it all stays the same. Like when we were kids." With Joanna and her fierce spirit, Evelyn and her bravery, and Blair with his stoism. But it is not, and his sad smile softens into a look of understanding. "Then have it." He nods, because it is simple really - what Isolde wants, she gets. "And have her do your hair, and dance with you and Evelyn... She should get everything she wants." And there it is - the truth neither of them can avoid. Yet in mourning Isolde, Blair almost forgot he'd lose Joanna too to her new husband. Somber yet certain, he nods; "I've looked out for her since I was a boy. I promise you - I will look after her for the rest of my life." There is a question that lingers, and it is Blair who asks it first; "Will you tell her, or shall I?"
Joanna's jaw fell slightly agape. To be kept in the dark all this time whilst Blair and Javier knew what was to inevitably come to pass. The temptation to be angry with Isolde only grew greater by the minute. "Of course you knew..." she muttered through gritted teeth, eyes falling to the ground, "Reuben knows, as well. I can't keep him in the dark when he's the only one holding me together right now." Which was the very reason for finding Blair, knowing that he'd played that exact role for Evelyn. She would need that. "I had to find out on my own, but obviously, I told her I knew the second I saw her. I couldn't play along, pretending to be naive." Naivety was an embarrassing state to be in, as far as Joanna was concerned, thriving in the knowing and always being the smartest person in the room. "Isolde told me her greatest wish for me before she begins to..." decay, succumb, start to look less like herself. All of those prospects seemed too terrible to even imagine, "... before she begins to fade... she wants to see my wedding," which meant it would have to take place in the coming months, perhaps even weeks. The fear crept into her throat, shaking her to her very core. She would make Isolde happy, only to lose her, but could it cost her the heart of the man she loves? "and when I am married, and Isolde is gone, that will leave Evelyn all on her own..." the tears began to threaten her emerald hues imagining her poor sister going from two sisters always at her side to suddenly losing one and being so far away from the other, "Blair, you have to promise me you will look after her..."

@thealmightyemprex @piterelizabethdevries @themousefromfantasyland @the-blue-fairie
So I'm reading Marvel Comics Beauty and the Beast, which, is a minisseries pairing the mutants Beast (in the era when he was a member of the Defenders team) and Dazzler (who is experiencing ostracism in her career as a singer after being publicly outed as a mutant), in which there is a mystery heading for the action plot, and while I know it is a superhero comic and action is the bread and butter of the genre... I couldn't help but wish that the comic instead focused on the romance and the slice of life Beast and Dazzler live as they take shelter in a hotel that is a santuary for mutants and interact with its different inhabitants as they build the romance!
This moments to breath were the strongest point!
So it made me wonder: is there any work of fiction usually focused on action and adventure where you went like:
"I just want to see these fantasy characters relax and enjoy the everyday aspects of their lives for a whole episode?"
