The JayVik brainrot afflicting me might have achieved singularity status but I have to share that I was looking into optics stuff when I came across a picture of Augustin-Jean Fresnel and his Wikipedia. I saw his small mouth and rounded eyes and was like 'he kinda looks a tiny bit like Viktor'. I scoured his Wikipedia page and found 80 mentions (ctrl+f) of this guy called Arago, his Wikipedia page says he was scientist and politician. And then I look at his picture and I'm like 'that's lowkey Jayce'.

They did a TON of stuff without each other BUT If you squint real hard there's coincidences and I think maybe some inspiration taken. Anyway here's the interesting bits I found -

Fresnel had a lifelong battle with tuberculosis, to which he succumbed at the age of 39. 

[at École Polytechnique] he made few if any friends and—in spite of continuing poor health—excelled in drawing and geometry

Fresnel's parents were Roman Catholics of the Jansenist sect, characterized by an extreme Augustinian view of original sin. ... Jansenism is considered heretical by the Roman Catholic Church, and Grattan-Guinness suggests this is why Fresnel never gained a permanent academic teaching post

Arago had founded the study of chromatic polarization, only to lose the lead, controversially, to Biot. Such were the circumstances in which Arago first heard of Fresnel's interest in optics.

Fresnel's letters from later in 1814 reveal his interest in the wave theory ... Eventually he compiled what he called his rêveries (musings) into an essay and submitted it via Léonor Mérimée to André-Marie Ampère, who did not respond directly. But on 19 December, Mérimée dined with Ampère and Arago, with whom he was acquainted through the École Polytechnique; and Arago promised to look at Fresnel's essay.

In mid 1815, on his way home to Mathieu to serve his suspension, Fresnel met Arago in Paris and spoke of the wave theory and stellar aberration. He was informed that he was trying to break down open doors ("il enfonçait des portes ouvertes"), and directed to classical works on optics.

according to Arago,

with Fresnel conscientiousness was always the foremost part of his character, and he constantly performed his duties as an engineer with the most rigorous scrupulousness. The mission to defend the revenues of the state, to obtain for them the best employment possible, appeared to his eyes in the light of a question of honour. The functionary, whatever might be his rank, who submitted to him an ambiguous account, became at once the object of his profound contempt. … Under such circumstances the habitual gentleness of his manners disappeared…

Fresnel's letters from December 1816 reveal his consequent anxiety. To Arago he complained of being "tormented by the worries of surveillance, and the need to reprimand…" And to Mérimée he wrote: "I find nothing more tiresome than having to manage other men, and I admit that I have no idea what I'm doing."

On 17 March 1817, the Académie des Sciences announced that diffraction would be the topic for the biannual physics Grand Prix to be awarded in 1819... Arago and Ampère encouraged Fresnel to enter.

As early as May 1817, at Arago's suggestion, Fresnel applied for membership of the Académie des Sciences, but received only one vote.

Meanwhile, in Britain, the wave theory was yet to take hold; Fresnel wrote to Thomas Young in November 1824, saying in part:

I am far from denying the value that I attach to the praise of English scholars, or pretending that they would not have flattered me agreeably. But for a long time this sensibility, or vanity, which is called the love of glory, has been much blunted in me: I work far less to capture the public's votes than to obtain an inner approbation which has always been the sweetest reward of my efforts. Doubtless I have often needed the sting of vanity to excite me to pursue my researches in moments of disgust or discouragement; but all the compliments I received from MM. Arago, Laplace, and Biot never gave me as much pleasure as the discovery of a theoretical truth and the confirmation of my calculations by experiment

Fresnel's health, which had always been poor, deteriorated in the winter of 1822–1823, increasing the urgency of his original research, ... it became clear that his condition was tuberculosis.

On 6 July, Arago arrived to deliver the Rumford Medal. Sensing Arago's distress, Fresnel whispered that "the most beautiful crown means little, when it is laid on the grave of a friend."

Oooo, this is very intriguing! I do agree with Begging being very Gojo, but also I also heavily associate Middle of the Night and Affection admittedly because those songs have inspired his fics for me lol. OH also Ghosting.

As for Nanami Dead Inside immediately jumps to mind. I also personally headcanon Nanami as loving rock music and being a major tool fan, so AEnema is also very Nanami to no one other than me lol. Also, I will never be able to explain it, but Fake Out is a Nanami song. Is that just me?? seriously let me know what ya'll think about that one because I can't justify it.

As far as Suguru goes this is where a lot of my villain songs come in. Laplace's Angel is very heavily Suguru for me. All Apologies is a very specific brand of sad boy Geto for me that I can't get enough of lol. also One and Only purely because I wrote my (scrapped) Priest Geto fic based on it lol.

Ryomen is actually pretty hard for me! Mostly because so much of my music association with him goes into my personal inaccurate characterization of him. I Am My Own Muse is very Sukuna to me, the song just has his intensity. Stay and Decay also has his vibes for reason unknown to even me, lol. I'm also going to go ahead and say Everything Black feels like loving Sukuna in the beginning, before the toxicity of him really sets in lmaoo.

A habitable world only fractionally less massive than Earth, Karakoram 3b is the second moon orbiting a Saturn-like gas giant on the outer edge of its system’s habitable zone. Tidally locked like most moons and kept in an eccentric orbit by Laplace resonance with the planet’s other satellites, it experiences significant tidal heating and lithosphere compression, with the result being an extremely mountainous surface regularly dotted by volcanoes. The moon has low surface water coverage, though this is not the result of any scarcity—rather, its mountainous terrain hosts massive glaciers which lock up most of its water reserves. What seas and large lakes there are boast surprisingly warm climes, as do most lowland valleys, all heated by ubiquitous geothermal activity. The world is a study in extremes, with ice above and steam and sometimes even fire below.

Most of the arable land hosts subtropical conditions with hot and humid summers and extremely mild but wet winters, as the planet’s temperature is regulated more by geological processes than stellar flux. That same tectonic activity has resulted in rich and easily accessed mineral resources from deep below the crust, which recommended the moon for colonization above and beyond even its quixotic habitability. Dominated by regional extractive mining concerns with all the attendant ‘company town’ developments one might expect, it functions both as a minor industrial hub in and of itself, and a major exporter of rare minerals to the nearby Seiko system, on account of Seiko 4’s restrictive policies on mining and the comparatively more expensive mining operations on other celestial bodies there. Civil unrest and armed worker strikes are commonplace.

Karakoram 3b is divided by its inhabitants into two hemispheres depending on what dominates the sky: strandside where the space elevator is more visible, and planetside where Karakoram 3 is more visible. Planetside is rather more remote and wild, with various mining companies possessing more and more control the deeper one ventures. Brigandry is kept in check by both local corporate forces and the Karakoram Elevator Authority's Line Monitors, with the former also regularly suppressing wildcat mining in their zones of control. Some independent settlements do nonetheless exist, and worker strikes in this hemisphere will often attempt to hire the services of their residents in resisting corporate security when contract negotiations break down.

The son of miners who came to Karakoram 3b hoping to make their fortune and move on, Hayden grew up under the total oversight of the Masterson Materials, Metals, and Minerals Corporation (4MC), which occupied an area of higher elevation (and thus more temperate) valleys. Unsurprisingly, his parents never actually made it big. After coming of age, Hayden decided to enter the company's services as a security officer rather than as a miner, thinking the work more in line with his disposition. 4MC had actually been fairly equitable throughout his life, and his activities were indeed focused almost exclusively against external threats for several years, but all things come to an end. When 4MC's workers finally did go on strike, Hayden was among those ordered to break it with extreme prejudice by a management which perceived its employees as thankless. He balked and defected with his Muscle Tracer.

The situation continued to escalate toward the precipice of violence when, sensing an opportunity, a rival company—Geological Exploitation Technologies (GET)—attacked both sides in force. In the ensuing chaos, Hayden attempted to lead local surviving miners to one of the independent settlements. Few made it. He operated from that location thereafter, alternately serving as hired muscle and taking vigilante action against GET as an act of retribution. Gradually pooling the funds for an AC, his patience was rewarded when he participated in GET's eventual demise and subsumption by surrounding companies, as had happened to 4MC. With nothing left for him locally, he finally went strandside, and from there off-world and out-system. Spending the remainder of his profits on Generation Eight human augmentation surgery, he has since worked as an independent mercenary.

A simple and robust AC built from cheap and common parts, Decree demonstrates no pretensions regarding what it is or is for. A ground-pounder, it is fully optimized to employ a piece of repurposed industrial demolition equipment to tear apart its enemies.

While Decree's burst assault rifle is a standard, easy to use, military-grade weapon, it primarily serves as a backup to allow the AC to reach out and touch airborne opponents or keep distant foes busy as it closes. Decree's real power comes from its twin spread bazookas, which if not devastating enough in their own right, serve perfectly at setting up an even more powerful charged strike from its chainsaw, with assault armor serving as a rarely-needed follow-up.

I was looking through my USB Drive the other night as I was writing up the list of multi-chaptered fics I have on there when I found a document title Rich are the treasures gilded and gold, with a placeholder text meant for an "[insert] obligatory Ozymandias quote".

There's a description of the summary that reads: 'you poor wretched fool, you could’ve had everything. Now watch, watch, as they seep through your hands like fine grain’

IIRC this was a Naruto fic intended to be a character study on Obito. This in itself is strange because (a) I haven't written a Naruto fic in years, (b) it's one of those fandoms I read fics of but don't really write for anymore, and (c) like most Shounen Jump villains/antagonists I'm rather indifferent to Obito, so I'm not sure why exactly The Muse honed in on that at the time (but I can at least say he's better written than most SJ villains, for the most part, so there's that). My guess is, I wanted to write something out of boredom (which is the main reason why I've written just the one BL fic that's on my AO3) and never followed up on it.

I think there's potential in this WIP, despite it containing only the title and summary (this was before I started including tags in my documents) - but I don't see this being a Naruto fic anymore.

Given where I'm at now where fandom spaces are concerned, I would like to make this into a Lumi fic. This would be ideal, although based on what's written here I'm not sure the summary leans toward anyone in particular nor fits them at all barring an AU featuring heavy canon divergence and characterization overhaul (even applying this to August and Laplace, who are about as "villain protagonist" as you can get in Lumi, would be a stretch because both have their reasons for doing what they do, especially if we have to factor in the theories around Lazui and how much influence he has - if any - toward them).

I'm going to have to sit on this one and look at my preferred fandoms, or, at least, any fandoms I've been interested in wanting to write for. I'll throw this into the WIP tag for future reference.
