Just read a shitty terrible book that I knew from the start would be bad because this was the cringe-ass dedication:

My first instinct upon seeing that was to just put the book down. I should have listened. I never should have even gotten as far as the first page
#like wtf is a murderino#sounds like a slur for true crime youtubers who do their makeup while talking about a horrific crime like its hot gossip#wait I just looked it up and it is something ppl obsessed with true crime willingly call themselves????#specifically its what fans of this specific (controversial) true crime podcast call themselves#this revelation actually explains a lot of why this book sucked so bad#besides the fact that it was so poorly written that I think a 5th grader could write better prose

People are going to side-eye your actions very hard if the plane had an inexplicable fault, though. Like, maybe that level of calm business instinct looks a lot like prior knowledge in this instance.
So, as long as they don’t decide you sabotaged the plane, your family gets the proceeds.

wsb is so fucking funny actually

Hi Gleafer!
Firstly, thanks for following me (I literally squee’d). Secondly, random question, do you happen to listen to the podcast My Favourite Murder? I feel like maybe you’d be into true crime, and if you’re into that, chances are you’re a Murderino. ANYway, on mini episode 390, the first hometown story is from a person talking about her parents being in a motorcycle gang in the 70’s when they were 19 years old. Apparently to the dad was the vice president of the gang, and his nickname was Lush.
I IMMEDIATELY pictured Crowley and Aziraphale being that couple (because my brain rot doesn’t. ever. stop.) and then pictured them in your art style. It made my afternoon. Thanks for everything that your contribute to them fandom! You’re awesome 😁
*gulp*
Would I be breaking girl code rules if I…er…um… I don’t listen to murder podcasts? I feel too bad for the victims and I’m paranoid enough! *side eyes mace and discretely placed box cutter near running gear*
BUT I’M STILL COOL! Right??? Guyth????

But I’ll listen to HORROR podcast all live long day cough cough The Magnus Archives cough cough

do you think a true crime podcast that doesn't descend into "murderinos" and valorizing murderers is possible? Or is the concept of true crime podcasting just rotten no matter how you try it?
I think it could be done but I don’t think people would enjoy listening to it

Okay. So. I watched the Laci Peterson documentary on Netflix. The two jurors? Don't think they could have found a more sanctimonious piece of shit pair of dudes. They piss me off almost as much Scott Peterson does.
(Continued rant under the cut-- hidden for my non-murderinos out there)
Idk. Ever since my writers group dudes needed to see a guy be more evil than "let me impregnate this selkie, then she'll want to stay" to justify his fictional thematic death, my opinion of men's judgement on crimes against women has hit an all-time low. Just... the way they talked about the case and how high and mighty their judgement and opinions were.
"I don't care about this, I only care about that" like shut the fuck my dudes. Look, I understand the perils of our criminal justice system and the overincarceration of innocent men, and I understand the need to get to as close to the truth as possible. But in a system designed by and built to protect conventionally attractive white men like Scott Peterson, who are you to pick and choose what's relevant and what's not? Who are you to decide the difference between what's circumstantial and what's context?
Ugh. Idk. I don't like a lot about what happened with the press on the case, and my own red flags about Scott Peterson (besides what the documentary highlights) include "who tf goes open water fishing after determining its too cold to golf" (also, golf is a red flag in and of itself) and "only monsters park their massive pickup truck in a spot marked for compact vehicles", so.... I'm not exactly an authority on the matter.
But I do question the fuck out of men sitting on juries for crimes against women. Especially men like these two douche canoes. I don't care what the eventual verdict was. I pity the women who had to sit on the jury with those two pricks.
#personal#rant#not looking to start a discourse#these guys are just rubbing me the wrong way too soon after the clear dichotomy of men and women's opinions of crimes against women#ugghhhhhh#my day is going well#hows yours?

Lindsey’s Books of the Month (January 2025)
Trying this to track what I read in a month and talk about the books I read!
I will not be doing a star rating system here. That’s for Goodreads.
Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

Yes, I did read the entire Empyrean series (as it currently stands) within the month of January. Technically I started Fourth Wing (a present) on Christmas Day 2024, but with the stomach bug that ravaged my family/our Christmas break, it barely counts as a real start. But once I really started, I could not stop. By the time the 21st rolled around, my daughters knew how much I loved them and told everyone in line at Target “we’re here to get Mommy the Dragon Book.”
I have fallen so completely into this series. Violet is one of my favorite main characters—the way her anger is celebrated by those closest to her has honestly been healing for me. A lot of her struggles with her limitations/the spoilery things she is going through in Onyx Storm made me feel so SEEN (spouse of someone with a chronic illness, hi) and every character in here is fantastic.
And yeah, the dragons don’t hurt either.
Rebecca Yarros you are SO good and I hope your break is restorative for you (and passes quickly for the rest of us).
Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

Karen and Georgia from MFM wrote a book awhile back and it was my winter True Crime Sauna Time book. Funny, insightful, and honestly a book early-20s Lindsey could have used. Highly recommend whether you are a Murderino or not.
Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion, vol. 1-3

These were a Christmas gift from my husband because the anime remains horribly, infuriatingly unfinished (they say they will, but I am not patient).
As Jill Bearup would say, the plot, it goeth thusly:
A young woman is pushed off a building and wakes up in the world and body of a character from her favorite novel. The only problem? She is now Raeliana MacMillan, whose murder spurs the main character of the novel, Beatrice, to solve the crime and avenge her dearest friend. Determined not to die again, Raeliana forges her own destiny and uses her knowledge of the novel to stay alive, including blackmailing the original novel’s MMC, Duke Noah Wynnight, into becoming her new fiancé so she can escape her original murderer. But Beatrice never shows up and Noah doesn’t seem so keen to call off their charade, even after her murderous original betrothed is caught.
It was a nice read between the high stakes of the Empyrean series because it has some of my favorite things: fake engagement of convenience to lovers (at least I hope so, they better not be teasing me), isekai but make it Period Romance (including the costumes!), and a heroine who is super smart. Will be getting the rest of the volumes, highly recommend.
The Grandmother Plot by Caroline B Cooney

This was a completely random read on Libby; the author is well-known for her Milk Carton series but I knew her better for Goddess of Yesterday (a junior high read I still think of often today). So I was scrolling through her Goodreads and found this.
An elderly woman in a dementia care center dies of a smothering, threatening the secrets of our two main narrators and many others in a small Connecticut town.
The characters here all have such depth and variation, and BITE. The descriptions of dementia and what it’s like to live with a loved one whose own mind is slipping away from them? Unflinching and heartbreaking. It was a dark comfort to me, the daughter of an 82-year-old man who has watched her father’s verve slip away after a series of strokes 6 years ago.
Love and Other Conspiracies by Mallory Marlowe

From dark comfort to just plain comfort. This book is like the rom com equivalent of…like imagine Ryan and Shane from Buzzfeed Unsolved were a hetero couple.
Hallie as a character is able to find her voice and confidence with Noah. They support each other and see the best in each other so beautifully. It is a heartwarming book, both in terms of the romance and Noah’s DELICIOUS verbal takedowns of Hallie’s abusive ex.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

This I read aloud to my daughters over several nights in January. It was delightful to watch them fall in love with it, as I did at my eldest’s age.
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

This was actually my first Roald Dahl, so it felt like an appropriate follow up for bedtime reading. And I do not think it gets enough love.
The Appeal by Janice Hallett

This is a novel told entirely through correspondence, including emails and texts.
A local theater group is wrought with strife when the toddler daughter of a leading player is diagnosed with a brain tumor. They pull together to raise funds, but all is not as it (or they) appear. And someone is going to end up dead by opening night.
If you enjoy Agatha Christie, you will love this book. If you like any kind of good mystery, give it a go!
Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie

My January book for the Read Christie 2025 challenge. I have always loved the David Suchet version and am delighted to be delving into the book at last.
Sixteen years after Caroline Crale died convicted of the murder of her husband, their daughter comes to Hercule Poirot. She requests that he solve the murder and prove, as her mother attested in a letter, that Caroline Crale was innocent.
I will be finishing this book in February but I am loving it so far! (The David Suchet episode is excellent btw)
LOOKING AHEAD: February 2025
I plan to stay on the Read Christie train with The 13 Problems, which is a classic collection of Miss Marple stories. Might just read my entire Miss Marple short story collection.
Husband got me Assistant to the Villain for Christmas, so that’ll be on the docket for sure.
Spy x Family volume 13 is out, which will be a lovely, quick read.
I will also be getting back into True Crime Sauna Time and starting The Devil in the White City (finally). Apparently DiCaprio and Scorsese are reviving the movie project, so I want to have that read before the movie comes out.
HOWEVER, Kate Winkler Dawson recently released The Sinners All Bow: Two Authors, One Murder, and the Real Hester Prynne.

Historical True Crime? Check. A Victorian-era true crime authoress being the first to investigate the case? A Scarlet Letter connection? I am the target audience.
I am also going to try Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, as my oldest asked about a sequel at the end of Chocolate Factory. I will be doing the audiobook on my own. If I think the girls will like it, then I’ll either check out the book or just finally buy a Roald Dahl set.
Everything else is up in the air!

anyway here's how online dating has been going. it's been about 3 weeks so far
i have been on one date. we got snowcones and talked for 5 hours! she was super cute and sweet
i'm in the process of planning a date with another woman, but i don't think i will like her. she called herself a murderino and got an extremely trivial fact wrong and it bugs me. is this why i'm single?
one woman lives in a different city and wants to meet up! no details on that part yet but i really like her so far
one woman sent me a very forward first message which obviously won my heart immediately. i like her a lot and want to get to know her more but she doesn't message every day so i'm not sure how interested she is
a woman who lives in my city wants to go to a local event with me next month. the frequency of her messages suggest that she is interested in me, but the content not so much
i matched with a person outside of my distance criteria because i think they're really cute. i like talking to them a lot but i'm worried i'll get attached and be in another miserable long distance situation. i did it to myself!
i'm talking to a few other people who i think i could come to like but don't have a good sense of yet
i'm surprised at how well it's going so far! i guess i had myself convinced that nobody would like me, but it turns out people do think i'm cute and interesting and want to get to know me! i feel very excited and hopeful. 🥰

(anon)
I think the deadliest thing about Krow is how badly he can be underestimated due to being short, goofy and kind. He’s charismatic, persistent, sneaky, and shaped like a friend. Non-threatening. He covers his tracks. He can also gaslight.
So how are Gabby’s instincts so damn good? She seems a lot more switched on than the average person and is very confident and clear in her perceptions. She knows no specifics but read Krow to filth. There was no confusion, she sniffed him out inside that sheep’s clothing from day one.
Has she dealt with dangerous people before? Is she a Murderino/true crime fan? Naturally tuned in socially or good at body language? Very analytical? Guarded less trusting personality?
Gabby takes a lot of safety precautions. Is that specifically about Krow, living in a dangerous city, simply being cautious as an AFAB person? Had a family member or friend been stalked, attacked or killed? Is it due to her having past experiences of abuse that makes her wary of others, or her/her partner working a high risk job that requires it?
Is her partner working in law enforcement or as a psychologist, is she ex-law enforcement or ex-psychologist? (Perhaps she still is, or if she works with Dove as a barista maybe she didn’t continue after study or burned out and left for a less demanding job. Perhaps she’s working part time as a barista with Dove while she studies.)
Perhaps she’s sapphic and so has more emotional distance from *people assumed to be men not to be influenced by his charm. (Sorry if that question is intrusive/inappropriate or misgenders Krow.) She could be asexual. She could have a personality that doesn’t readily form connections with others so he can’t buddy up. All of this would give her a more objective view of his behaviours.
Or maybe she’s so happy and nourished in her relationship she just isn’t as susceptible. She has a strong support network and/or is not emotionally vulnerable.
I don’t know how she worked it out on so little. Because I know exactly what Krow is and still don’t know how she so intuitively saw the danger without being told, and I still find him a somewhat sympathetic/tragic figure.
Did he miscalculate, do something slightly sus and she saw it? Was he just that bit overly forward or persistent, coming to the cafe too much? Seeking Dove out specifically? Did she overhear him manipulating Dove or pushing them for a date?
The lady is street smart as hell and I need her to teach classes.
I love these detailed asks you send in anon. But you also need to get out of my head. /lh /teasing
You definitely have it right about Krow, that his greatest asset (I think) is the fact he is often so wildly underestimated. As you say, he's short, a bit goofy and rather kind and well mannered (most of the time). He's just a silly, quirky artist guy with a crush. What harm could he possibly do or be capable of? So why is Gabby so keen on saying he is a giant red flag?
Part of the answer is kind of spoilery (or well, wouldn't make much sense at the moment, other things need to be revealed), but the short of it is: Gabby is extremely paranoid and tends to have a 'glass is half empty, and what's left is probably poisoned' view of the world and others. Sometimes this benefits her. Sometimes it doesn't. This pessimistic personality she has now wasn't always extreme. It's something she has developed over the years.
Gabby has had some... harsh experiences in life, shall we say, that has left her with a pretty bitter outlook. She is in a MUCH better place in all regards (you ARE right anon that she is quite happy and nourished in her relationship and has strong bonds with other folks in her life) but the damage has been done. It still leaves her... wary of most others.
From her life experiences, and just brief interactions with Krow, he just ticks off one too many boxes on her 'most likely dangerous person' checklist for comfort. And the fact he is keen on getting close to Dove... is it any wonder she is so adament in telling you to stay away from him?
But this isn't exactly new or surprising behavior from her (and she HAS been wrong about people in the past, to be clear) so it's up to you, Dove, if you believe her warnings or not.
I will say though, there IS something that Gabby herself does in her own time that also has helped her hone her analytical skills, yet also has perhaps left her with some more bitter impressions on the world at large.
I'll say too her partner also has some skills which also come in handy for sussing out someone like Krow.
The major thing though is... something has happened to Gabby in the past that has reeeeally left her... wary and very cautious of others. Which may or may not be revealed in due time. (:

Putting the final touches on some gifts for the murderinos. I tried using sewing thread for this one to give it an Edward Gorey vibe. Hmmmm looks a little wobbly but I do like the pearl on the urn.

@pizzadoff like for torment from Pizzahead! He choose Pizzahead.
"Hey there, friend. Seems like you let one of your clones projects loose and they're running around. Now, I'm all for the chaos, of course, but uh... They seem kinda intent on committing some murderino of Pizzaheadino, so I'll have to politely ask that you reign him in or do something before fist-to-cuffs arise. I'd prefer not to get my hands all doughy with that thing, after all."
The pizzaman is leaning against the wall casually, as if this is just another day at the office. Talking about rouge clones and how they're bloodthirsty is kinda par for the course in the case of these two, though. It's really not surprising.
