That's a decrease on most metrics, but my word count is very comparable to last year, and I had no idea my subscription count had broken 200! Cool! Especially as I wrote some kind of out there fics this year, I'm very touched by that people want to stick around. I feel like I also do kind of absurdly well for comments, so thank you guys for that.

Fun Stats: 

Fics Published: 25, including one on anon, for 186,620. This is down from last year's 31, but my word count last year was 198,621, so we're pretty damn close!

Number of One-Shots: 22— It was another year of going hard on exchanges, and that encourages one-shots! Of those, 14 were under five thousand words, so I'm pretty pleased with my objective of learning to write short was actually enacted, when I was experiencing deadline pressure!

Number of Multi-Chapters: 3 total, and one still unfinished. I didn't start any new ongoings and leave them unfinished this year, but I still have multiple languishing from 2022, and I didn't finish the one of those I was working on this year, so— augh. I need to stop doing events and finish some of those ongoings! But events are so good...

Number of Inspired Works: 3, because I participated in recursive exchange, where you write fic inspired by other people's fic and art! One of those was inspired by an animation, which I'm very proud of.

Longest Fic: You Blew Me Into Stardust (42,846 words), my beloved mech au. I did two fics for the aufest reverse bang, I also wrote Trying Hard Not To Smile Though I Feel Bad (16,254 words) for Aufest, which is a college au! The minimum for that event was 5k so I— went overboard a bit.

Shortest Fic: I just posted it actually, that's How To Make The Secret City’s Speciality Dessert - Roasted Brown Sugar Oranges And Buttermilk Ice Cream  (912 words), that's a zine fic where we had a 1250 word maximum! I love this fic, and I'm so proud that I managed something short.

Most Kudosed Fic: Gonna Have It Out Like Fight Club, which is a bit unfair because that one has been acquiring kudos since 2022, and is now at 213 kudos. My poor neglected child the mafia fic I HAVE THE REST OF THE FIC OUTLINED I just keep writing things for events instead of writing you.

Most Viewed Fic: That's Gonna Have It Out Like Fight Club, with 2,220, but again a bunch of those are from last year, so probably my biggest fic is Trying Hard Not To Smile Though I Feel Bad, my 13-things-I-hate-about-you Niki & Ranboo au, at 1,457 hits. That one I honestly did not expect to get as big as it did, but I guess people like the comedy.

Most Subscribed Fic: Gonna Have It Out Like Fight Club, with 82 people wanting to know how that one ends. I"M SORRY. I"LL FINISH IT I PROMISE. I did notice my subscriptions to fics overall fell— people were still subscribing to one-shots last year, and this year I guess people realized that was not panning out.  

Most Bookmarked Fic: okay so it LOOKS like it's Gonna Have It Out Like Fight Club at 73 but I can count dates so I can tell that only 28 of those are from this year, wait I forgot about private bookmarks. Hm. Well anyways the one I'm sure was bookmarked this year was Things Could Be So Easy (If You Let Them), my first real intentional shot at writing QPR emduo with a proposal, and boy having THAT unlocked was a delight. That one has 52 bookmarks.

Most Used Fandom: Dream SMP with 13 fics, and SMPEarth in second place with 5. I wrote 9 different fandoms this year, technically.

Least Used Fandom: this is A MULTIWAY Tie as Internet & Social Media (Anthropomorphic), Murderbot Diaries, Books of the Raksura, Original Work, Origins SMP, and Parkour Civilization are all at 1 fic.

Most Used Rating: Teen, 18 fics. I wrote my first two explicit fics this year, both for exchanges!

Highest kudos + Highest Hit One-Shot:

I didn't do a whole lot of one-shots this year, so for both of those it's 'fate is just a world for all the things we can't control', a story for One Piece where Robin is time looping the events at Water 7. this one was honestly really fun. It's the first time in months I'd gotten clocked by the inspiration bat and gone 'oh yeah writing is FUN.' i wrote a lot of it at work, when I worked 11 PM-7 AM. four in the morning fic on company time.

New Things I Tried:

the Usagi fic I wrote this year was a set of 10 drabbles making one story. i should do that again sometime, that was a lot of fun. cut me open, call me home involved a lot of writing in the style of old oral tradition fairytales, which was entirely new and harder than I expected it to be!

Fic I Spent The Most Time On:

hm. i think both in terms of hours and the fic that took the most months from start to finish, it would be Casey Jones and the Forty Thieves, the 1990s moviefic which I first put down words for in August 2023 and which got posted February 2024. wAIT NO Carlyfic, Winter Music, has a section in it that I wrote back in January 2023, on my phone at the Waltham commuter rail stop.

Fic I Spent The Least Time On: Ad Lib, which was a bit of a one-day endeavor.

Favourite Thing I Wrote: I really, really, really like how Winter Music turned out. I also liked competitive agoraphobia exposure therapy so much that I'm now working on a sort-of-sequel.

Favourite Thing(s) I Read: going to cheat a little and link my bookmarks, because I got into One Piece this year and ohhhhhhhhhh man is there some good stuff in there. special shoutout to two of my favorite urban fantasy fics from that corner of the internet: King Tide by carriecmoney, and A Crown of Flowers by HyperbolicReverie, which just finished. I also adored Unknown System, or, New Peoples by alatarmaia4 which is a Murderbot/Discworld crossover.

Writing Goals for 2025: [clenches fist] mushroomverse moviefic. I'm gonna get there. I'm gonna get the buildup. I'm gonna stick the landing. I also really want to finish the prompts I took back in 2023--I'll be making a list of those shortly so I can pin it and keep track. Oh, and I'm participating in the TruffyFest this year! I've got one thing in the works, and another prompt I have my eye on, so in a perfect world I'll finish those. I'd love to do another Big Bang or just another longfic in general, it's been ages, but that's more of a hope than a goal. as is finishing Passionate Pools. which is ON MY LIST.

New Works: Mostly One Piece. like I said I've got a sequel to the Heart Pirates on Zou fic in mind, which involves both spoilers and speculation for current manga stuff. I've got another couple fics in mind that may or may not be destined to be finished--Vivi stealing from the gods, Usopp playing Scheherazade in Wano. I have a list of what I'm doing for Mushroomverse each month until August, and I've got the Truffyfest works I can't talk about yet.

How many words (of fanfic) have you written this year? 234,231 words. all murderbot. shut up. This was my second biggest year. I'd like to thank the time on my hands, posting a longfic I had in the works for a while, and participating in a Big Bang. (2021 was my biggest. I'll thank back pain and unemployment for that one lol.)

How many works did you publish this year? 42 fanfics.

What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Networks VOID + Networks VITAL. Took me over two years to write and I finally finished it and punted it into the universe this year. fucking monster roller-coaster of a fic capping off a monster roller-coaster of a series. probably the most technically challenging thing I've written to date, by merit of all the balls in motion and all the emotional beats crammed in over the course of 99k words, with the majority of the action taking place during ~48 in-universe hours. i'm so proud of it. it deserves all the love it's gotten LoL thanks everybody!!

What work of yours has the most hits? Via Solitude is a perennial crowd pleaser. Wide audience appeal. Slow and long-running multi-chapter slice of life. ("Slice of life" whilst stranded and surviving alien wilderness.)

What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? idk I'm honestly pleasantly surprised every time people comment at all. but I guess SecUnit Feet got hella reactions, for a borderline gag fic for April fools.

If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? I don't.

Pairing you wrote the most for this year? I don't really write much as far as pairings go. The REAL talk is that I posted another entry for my niche obsession: re-writing the Exit Strategy Dock Showdown from the point of view of "Hostile One" the Combat SecUnit. Surrender/Please is my fourth one in this microgenre, and does it just as fresh and fun and different from the preceding three. ^_^

Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? Well I did write one ship fic: Stranger (manic pixie dream killing machine). In which 2 characters that never interact in canon suck face. It's pretty good makeouts if you're into that. Honestly I do love this fic I did a good job on it. Took me a long time to iron it out. Alternatively, if you stretch the definition of "pairing" to mean "self-destructive murdercule" there's the squad from Networks VOID/VITAL being patently insane. Together. Heart Emoji.

What work was the quickest to write? Funny you should ask. I gave myself 30-minute limits to write the daily Febuwhump prompts and timed myself. equivalent exchange took me 11.25 minutes, and it's not bad considering the time crunch. Mensah POV of killing that SecUnit in All Systems Red :)

What work took you the longest to write? Aforementioned Networks VOID/VITAL. I cannot overstate how insane I was making myself writing this thang for 2 years before posting it to the internets.

How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year? I think I made a list of some ideas I've had knocking around, but they've been backburnered a bit since I've been noodling other writing stuff lately. (I say, while succumbing to banging out random fics for a prompt event during December -_-)

What’s your longest work of the year? Networks VITAL again, at 99.8k. Maybe I should edit in a couple hundred more words to bring it up to a clean 100k. that would be funny. maybe. eh.

What’s your shortest work of the year? I've written a few drabbles. (drabble = 100 words.) 🦎 herping 🐍, Handoff, Sugar

Did you do any collaborative works this year? Wrote a meta with ArtemisTheHuntress: [Meta] Name Dropping about the ways Muderbot refers to other bots in the series. Surprising little nuggets of realization such as: Murderbot only refers to bot pilots generically or with nicknames, and the only named ships are A) Holism the supership and B) Lalow, which has no bot pilot. Also participated in a big bang with every_eye_evermore to create Plastic Plague. I did the writing, every_eye_evermore did the awesome illustrations and helped me work out the kinks. If Networks VITAL hadn't stolen the show in terms of the man-hours and heart I put in, I think I'd have named Plastic Plague as my pride and joy. Kind of surprised myself with how fast I wrote it given its length. But also it's one of those fics that's like 2 degrees removed from being a whole ass original novella. lol. If you're interested in getting your heart broken and then pulled back together, come check out this post-apocalyptic pandemic fic. owo.

What’s your most common category? Gen. I'm a 97% gen household lmao.

What do you listen to while writing? Bathroom fan white noise. Neighbors noise. Sometimes noise muffling headphones. I usually can't listen To Stuff and write at the same time, there's barely enough space in my head to have 1 full thought per second. It's like 0.6-0.8 tps in here.

Favorite work you wrote this year? I couldn't POSSIBLY pick a favorite out of all my precious children. I would never. I love them all equally. 🏆 Networks VOID/VITAL 🏆

Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Listen I wrote 234,231 words worth of bangers. Girl I forget. I'm not rereading all that to find my fave passage. Here’s one from Surrender/Please: “I’m chasing you, my mental crosshairs locked on you, which is how it’s supposed to be, but something is so wrong, so wrong, so wrong with you, so wrong with me. The ghost of your presence in my feed digs its ethereal fingers into the back of my neck, where my data-port is, and just above that, wedged within the shriveled heart of a stripped-down medulla, is my governor module.” Here’s one from false pulse, ComfortUnit POV: “I want to cut the mimic heart out of my torso, that lying little device in the center of my chest put there for the sole purpose of broadcasting a false pulse to a sentimental human audience, that races loudly now, unbidden.” From Suns Out Guns Out: ““SecUnit. Where are your arms?” SecUnit shrugged its armless shoulders. The gesture made its empty sleeves flop a bit. “Planetary customs has them. I’ll pick them back up when I go up the elevator.”” From illucid: “The systems swerve uncertainty, the missile misses its mark, the mote floats free.” Also I think spousal privilege does a great job burying the lede. But I won’t paste the whole thing here.

Biggest surprise while writing this year? How did I write so many bangers? uwu. (Actually I spent a month or two having forgotten how to write good because I went outside and touched too much grass. (Read: went backpacking for a while and didn’t have access to writing.) It was a little agonizing. Then Surrender/Please knocked the cork loose and I was able to write again everyone say thank you Surrender/Please.) At this point writing is kind of a near-daily compulsion for me.

Since artist matching is done now, I can talk about my other two impending big bangs. I'm doing a post-canon Ouizzy fic for Our Flag Means Death and a Dickonzo fic for The Magnus Protocol.

And my Murderbot Diaries big bang is, again, focused on the question, "How would one distinguish a Construct from an augmented human?"

Favorite Color: Blue - vibrant or dark.

Currently Watching: Popular media? Nothing. My TV currently has on the security camera I put in our chicken house to watch the baby chicks. They're a month old now and quail-sized, so I'm letting them free range. They're still preferring to stay inside with their mother, which is fine.

Last Movie: Furiosa. It was okay. If you take it as what it was, then it was better than most Mad Max movies. But you really need to separate it from Fury Road, which overshadows it in all the ways.

Currently Reading: Always Coming Home by Ursual LeGuin. I'd read and loved Left Hand of Darkness by her, and read several inspiring quotes. So I heard Always Coming Home was like her magnum opus or something. I'm ... disappointed? I mean, it's indulgent, chock full of world building and weird cultural stuff. I can see why it would be the pinnacle of her writing. But as far as a story where I find the protagonist engaging and enjoy seeing the world from their point of view? Nah. I'm going to finish it, as I'm 20 hours into a 23 hour book, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but a diehard LeGuin fan and they'd already know about it.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: I could live on sweets, but I love a good savory.

Relationship: Yeah, well, I'm kind of in one? I've been living with this guy for 10 years and he's a good roommate and friend. We used to fuck but after the hysterectomy I lost all interest so now we're just ... together? He's gone out twice now with a woman from our jujitsu group and I really hope that works out for him. If not, he still has a place here.

Current Obsession: It's still The Murderbot Diaries, although I think my interest has been straying a bit for the last few months.

Last Thing I Googled: What the temperature was outside (75 F at that point, which was 8 am). Before that 'fungating mass' (warning: medical grossness) and '2024 nissan sentra prices' as we discuss whether we're buying new or used for my daughter's car.

Currently Working On: A Big Bang story for The Murderbot Diaries. It's at 27k right now and I'm trying to decide how to write the final action scenes in a way that actually wraps up the entire story rather than just gets our heroes out of danger.

Sweet, I love a simple chocolate chip cookie or ice cream (don't get me started on flavors though, we'll be here all night...) spicy would have to be my favorite salt and vinegar chips with serrano pepper, and savory would be hummus and cucs/meat and cheese charcuterie sorts of things for sure.

relationship: Married for almost 4 years, but we've been together for 12!

current obsession: oh my god this is so broad, I have obsessions in all areas of my life...ummmmm I've been making these salad jars for lunch and I really love them haha.
