Hello! I read your post on being present in roleplaying and it got me curious as I've never done it myself (outside of drama improv, if that even counts, lol), but it's always felt like a formative staple in fandom community even though I've never really understood it.

I wanted to ask a couple of questions if that's okay. Namely, what actually is roleplaying, what it's like, and where one can find a community to try it out.

Otherwise, I thought your post was really good as it also applies to OCs in novels and experiencing real life, so if all else, we can just leave it at that, lol

I mean, I am not an expert on RP or anything, I've only been back on Tumblr since February. I'm also absolutely not an expert on writing, just an enthusiastic lover of spilling words onto the page, so take everything with a grain of salt <3

Roleplaying is basically just shared storytelling. It can take a lot of forms--like LARP, which stands for Live Action Role Play, or tabletop games like D&D. With those, it is a lot like improv acting, I imagine. You have a character, you have parameters, and you shape the story by acting things out as you go--no plan, no script, just doing what feels right for your character while also working to build the "Yes, And" vibes.

Written RP is a lot like that. At least, to me it feels a lot like that. It feels like a game where we both pick our favorite characters and our favorite writing styles, then dive in hard. Maybe we explore whatever aspects of canon (if one or both of us is a canon character) left us howling and sobbing. Maybe we mix worlds--like Blitz hanging out with Cardan, from the Folk of the Air series. Maybe we just become absolute crack monsters. Whatever we do with it, it's essentially collaborative storytelling built on respect of each other's preferences and needs, and love of not just the results, but the process. It's fun, it's like--making a really satisfying with (usually) just one other person.

On tumblr, you can often find roleplaying communities (or RPCs) for just about anything just by checking for relevant tags, like helluva boss rp for me. If there's something you love, there's probably an RPC for it, and if not? There's usually someone who will be interested in checking your character out and talking about inspiration with you.

A lot of RPers--most, from what I have seen--will have a pinned post on their blog that communicates their rules/preferences. For example, since my character is a filth-goblin and a violent little feral monster, I am not okay with the idea of interacting with minors, so I put that in my rules. I'm also very anti-censorship and shaming, so that's in my rules, too. Whatever is most important to you, whatever you know you won't be able to handle in an RP partner, put that in your rules post. If you find the RPC tags for a fandom you like (and Tumblr will often help you with this by promoting other posts and blogs similar to the things you search for, once it figures out that's what you like), you can find roleplayers' blogs and check their rules out to get an idea of what sort of things might be most common, what sort of things other players seem to hope to find in rules.

If the idea of digging into tags overwhelms you, or you take a look around and decide nope, Tumblr RP is not for me, but I still want to try written RP, you can also look for blogs that are designed to help people meet so they can write together, often on Discord. @rphunter is an excellent example of those blogs and can be a great place to start, or even just a way to start seeing how people talk about RP.

TL;DR -- It's like creating fanfiction together (or original fiction, sometimes!), because we love the game, respect each other, and are cheerful nerds who just like to play. Roleplay is a very social hobby, and a lot of fun! If you're curious about it, I hope you give it a try! And hey I may be slow about answering questions, and may just babble and be the worst source ever, but I will always try <3 So please never feel bad for asking.

3. Favorite class?

Oof, now this is a hard question!

My first job was White Mage, so I have a soft spot for it, but I also adore Astrologian, Samurai, Dancer, Black Mage, and Red Mage to name a few. However…

My new favorite job has to be Pictomancer! It’s crazy how much I thought I would be disappointed in this job when the full DT trailer was released, as I had wanted either Green Mage, Time Mage, or Geomancer for the new casting job. But now that DT is live, I can’t get enough of Picto! It’s so incredibly fun and rewarding, and it’s so damn powerful DPS wise as well. It’s so impressive visually too. It’s now my main job on Hali going forward, and I want to unlock it on Yume too because I just can’t get enough!

❤️ : Another of my best qualities is being considerate and giving. I love giving gifts to friends and family or being available to help those in need.

🌈 : I use multiple names online, including Dream and Nightingale. My pronouns are she/her or they/them. I'm not picky.

🎧 : I switch between listening to music, YouTube, and silence. lol. If I'm writing for short to medium replies, I can listen to YouTube. If I'm writing for a longer thread or threads that need more brain power, I like to listen to random Spotify playlists or background music.

Sailor Moon was one of the first animes I saw, and I love the series so much. <3 My favorite inner scout is Sailor Jupiter, my outer scout is Sailor Pluto, and a random character is Seyia Kou, or Sailor Star Fighter.

I wanna get back into drawing, but unfortunately, it keeps getting set off to the side for other things. lol, I should try to draw during my breaks or set aside 5 minutes a day to sketch.

Before following my current career path, I was a chef for three years. I studied at Le Cordon Bleu, got my certificate, and worked under a James Beard Awards and Relais & Châteaux Chef.

Any tips for writing with you?

(Why yes, there are a few.

When I'm feeling a particular character, I tend to write drabbles that have compacted head Canons for my character(s). Those drabbles usually give a bit of tea of how my muse is feeling at the moment or in a particular situation. I always tag those posts as ;drabble;

On my blogs, be it for Ash/Angela, Rosie, or Lilith. If reading my ramblings for my muses doesn't interest you and you want to do a random short thread or interaction, sending things via ask is more than fine with me. I know I've been doing that quite a bit with @hells-greatestdad because dragging myself to answer threads that require a lot of thought & detail are a bit much for me at the moment. I will try to answer threads every so often but brain is dumb.

As a quick side note, I do appreciate you being patient with me when it comes to replies. I know it's taking me 5ever to respond to basically anything on here..

📇 - It does! Zowie is my OC in a horror plot I've had in my brain for like 15 years now. Strangely enough, he's also a redhead, and a killer (more like a creature, but I can't go into detail). The AlterEgo obviously is exactly what it is. He's almost become my deranged pen name. (I love that you asked this question 😭)

🍦 - If I'm going to eat sweets, ice cream is what I love. I get to buying them fancy ones too. Afters has a monster cookie one, in bars too, and that is my current favorite.

1.) I have a non-threatening condition that causes one eye to dilate too much and the other not enough. My right eyelid droops a little. Almost like a lazy eye, I suppose. My vision isn't affected, and when tests were run they literally told me "you're just a freak". We think it was from all the ear infections I had. (Maybe I should get a monocle jdbdhdjjd)

2.) I have a huge plushie collection. It is.....a lot. Probably over 1000 easily. I buy a lot from small buisness, so I have spent quite a sum on some of them.

3.) I'm a sports/wrestling fan. I've since dropped out of the fandom of wrestling in favor of Hazbin, but I very much love sports. And I love to talk a lot of shit too.

What keeps me happy: .... looking out for my needs, however that looks like at any given time. I guess.

15. Best memory?

There are so many amazing memories I have of this game, so many that fill me with emotion everytime I experience the story, and there’s a ton just from ShB and EW alone. However, if I had to choose one, I’d choose the finale of patch 3.3, the end of the Dragonsong War, and in particular, the fight against Nidhogg and all the scenes that surround it. When I saw Yume walk towards Nidhogg for the first time, I truly got chills, and I knew that FFXIV had me hooked.

25. Favorite minion?

If I don’t cheat and say one of my ship’s minions (like Wind-up Aymeric for example), my favorite minion, if I’d have to narrow it down to just one, would be the Wee Ea minion that you get from farming FATES in Ultima Thule. It’s absolutely adorable and I love seeing the little head separate and float away. The Ea were my favorite of the civilizations we encountered in UT so I love having this minion out and about.

I don't have a who per se? I have a what: Dark/Absurd comedy like Venture Bros, MTL, Archer, WWDITS, various Britcoms. History, even the fucked up bits. Fucked-up-but-funny is kinda this iterations of Kar's vibe, among other things.

If I could be re-incarnated into any animal in the next life, it would have to be a fox. Foxes have always been among my favorite animals, and I consider them my "lucky" animal whenever we cross paths. They are very reactive/responsive, intuitive, and playful. ♡ Either that, or I'd love to be a crow! Seeing as they are inquisitive and mischievous, I adore them so!

A special talent? Uh. . . I can imitate a few animal sounds? (i.e. cat meows, monkey calls, chicken noise, etc. Also used to be able to do the Perry the Platypus noise and a few character voices.)

If I could marry one fictional character, it would probably either be Nikolai Lantaov or Constanta. I have always held a space in my heart for Nikolai. He's a privateer and a king, how can I not? Funny, witty, charming, handsome?

Constanta coz she's a vampire & easily loveable by all means. She's intelligent, cautious, protective, empathetic, and I just. . .love her with my whole heart. A DOWRY OF BLOOD is one of my absolute favorite books, so.

Something not a lot of people know about me? This is difficult; I am very open and not particularly unique? But I guess we will get personal? Just a bit —

Every word of encouragement, support, and positivity is offered to its fullest. None of it is empty words. Believe it or not, every single day for me is a struggle. I fight with inferiority, anxiety, depression, and some imposter syndrome as well. It is vastly easier for me to see other people's worth than my own. I also offer a safe space to come to because I often refuse to acknowledge my own desire/need for such things because I do not want to be seen as needy, bothersome, or weaker than I already am.

My perception of myself is incredibly different than that anyone else holds of me, and I am painfully aware of this. Despite this awareness, I am still blindsided by the funky chemical imbalances in my brain that trick me at every turn!

4. What made you choose this muse?

It was a character I created back in 2011/2012 with an old friend at the time. Vahalia went by another name in various games and MMOs as Hale Cress. From GW2 to WoW, TESO, she's had several different renders of her, and coming to the FFXIV universe in 2019 I decided to keep true to what was a part of her character and stories and mold it to better fit the lore of FF.

I've done a lot of world-building for her over there years as a solo venture and she's always been one of my favorite characters. I chose her solely because she's challenging to write at times, 3 dimensional, dark, and twisty and there is a lot of room to indulge in the darker aspects of writing and roleplay.

People seem to enjoy her as much as I do (even though she can be a straight-up c*nt at times) and it really brings me a lot of joy when I can sit with friends and build on things with them or support their own stories and creations through Vahalia.

Her looks from other MMOs haven't changed much. In other renditions of her, she had green eyes and was a little more gentle and in touch with her emotions. With Vahalia in FF, she now has golden-colored eyes (a product of collaboration with my husband and his character) and she's a little more emotionally stunted. Who she is today is also something that has been built upon over time such as her experiences with other characters, goals, and how she's matured and grown even more since when I made the character in 2019.

I love her so much! ;3;
