What we deliberately do not acknowledge is that Munawar Faruqui was arrested for thought crime. He was arrested and jailed for jokes he didn't crack, for jokes noisy people of Hindu Rashtra thought he will crack. Are jokes criminal or how much of freedom of expression do we really have is all nonsensical discussion when he isn't arrested for his utterances rather the utterances some sad clowns thought he might. How do you get your head around this nonsense? And forget police, they have never been logical or known to display any sense, our courts - our arbiters of truth, upholders of our liberty and institutions whose entire basis lies in rationality and logic - didn't find it in them to out-rightly throw this case away and reprimand police officers who registered FIR on such clumsy charges. They entertained this facade. They entertained criminalization of supposed crimes, our supposed thoughts and acts. Do you see a dark joke here? Well don't, for someone might file a case against you for thinking it, or maybe it doesn't matter for they think you thought it anyway and that's enough in Hindu-rashtra to jail you. Oh wait, are you a Hindu? Then fret not. You need to be a Musalman to be jailed. For crimes you commit of course and for those you do not commit, and for those that Hindus think you are going to commit. Essentially, your mere existence is criminal in Hindu Rashtra. Your breathing in itself is radical. Or maybe you aren't breathing but someone thinks you are and that's enough to prosecute you now. Beware and welcome to a brave new world.
