okay so i& Do know a few other jewish folx in the fandom have talked about this before but. the discussion of racism in the a.soiaf/h.otd fandom suspiciously Never includes c.riston c.ole / f.abien f.rankel when he is explicitly a jewish man of color & its. weird. just. yeah. like yeah dgmw the meme of c.rispy c.ole is v funny but there is a conversation here that's not being had & it's very weird that his actions arent worse than some of the white men on the show yet he receives this reaction & men of color (& in this case) jewish men will always be held to a higher standard than white men.

The initial reason I dropped her (around 2007) was because 1.) I was clearly projecting a desire to own a kitty back in high school/college when I couldn't have one, 2.) I thought having a cat aboard a ship would be too dangerous and I couldn't handle hurting Azzura, and 3.) At the time, Devil's Eye was a 20 year voyage, that cat won't survive all 20 years :C

But then @der-karibisch-heyder and I shortened the voyage to a far more reasonable 7 years, and it turns out, ships kept cats (and animals, period), all the time! Cats adapt to new surroundings far better than we give them credit for, they chase and hunt vermin, and of course, they're critically important companions and friends to keep during long voyages.

But yeah, shows you that Giovanni originally did own a cat, AND she was orange! Doesn't help he himself is basically an orange cat in spirit.

I COULD say in the current canon that Azzura is now Rosella in Giovanni's childhood (to go with Josep's childhood dog Jacinta), but you can never just stop at one cat, goddammit >:C

Stephen was never into Harry Potter. He tried to read it, but was an early observer of all of the Talking Points about it’s weaknesses, even before JK coming forward as full of extremely Bad Opinions, and never bothered with the movies. Before getting into ‘real magic’, he was never into sci fi nor fantasy as a whole, and afterward, can’t stand them, generally, but he did read the Discworld series at some point, enjoying the satire to it, and later found it’s hypothesis about the nature of Magic as being surprisingly close to the real deal.

Weirdly specific question: Anybody know of any good research resources about Jewish American women’s daily lives in Philadelphia, PA, in the 1770s?
