—————————————————————————
What is a shifter?
A reality shifter is someone who shifts their conciseness to another reality/universe. This is based off the multiverse theory!
—————————————————————————
I haven’t shifted yet and have been on my shifting journey since the summer of 2022. However, I’ve been researching and have been kind of in and out of the community from 2020-2022 😭
Some of my favorite DRs:
The Arcana (main dr 1)
Obey me!

Quiet as a Cat, Sneaky as a Spider🕷 | Spider-Man No Way Home MASTERLIST
Contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairings: Tobey!Spider-Man x female!Reader /Black Cat (Romantic) , Andrew!Spider-Man (Platonic/flirtatious), Tom!Spider-Man (Platonic), Michele Jones-Watson (Platonic), Ned Leeds (Platonic). Dr. Otto Octavious (Platonic/Flirtatious).
Premise: Having been pulled into another universe where an alternate version of her once on-again/off-again lover and occasional nemesis/ally exists, Y/N L/N finds herself having to suit up again as her long retried anti-hero persona in order to help three SpiderMen face off against some familiar faces causing trouble in New York City.
Content Warnings: Fluff, Angst, spoilers for SMNWH, profanity, violence, implications of sex through innuendoes, flirtatious banter, references to past SA trauma, mentions of death. Slight nsfw in p.5
Black Cat theme from the Spider-Man PS4 game | original black cat comic suit | NWH suit (my interpretation) | My Pinterest Board | Spotify playlist
Note: For this series, it will be told in third person POV and although it is a reader insert it will be as though the reader is a version of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat from Tobey’s universe. I’ll also be taking inspiration from her in the Spider-Man game as well as her comic persona. Think of it like she is Tobey!Peter love interest instead of Mary Jane (although Mary Jane still plays her same role from Spider-Man because Peter doesn’t know Y/N is black cat till the events of Spider-Man 2). I plan to write both a prequel series and possibly a post NWH series so let me know if you’d like to be tagged in future works.
I do not own any characters from Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios and all affiliated with them. All rights belong to the owners and this is just fan-fiction for fans pleasure. This series contains MAJOR spoilers for Spider-Man No Way Home, so if you have not seen it then please do not read this yet.
Series Chapter List (Completed 💌):
Quiet As A Cat: On the hunt for multiversal beings that were pulled into his universe after a botched spell gone wrong, young Peter Parker falls into a game of cat & mouse when a woman in black with a grappling hook manages to escape his every move.
The Spiders Chit-Chat: While crafting the cures for the five villains, the three Peters get to talking which leads to the youngest of the bunch learning the identity of the mystery woman, and the oldest discovering why he hadn’t heard from a certain someone all day.
Sneaky As A Spider: The three Peters come face-to-face with the master escape artist donned in a new suit, who happens to have a very personal connection with the older Spider-Man in their group.
Trying To Do Better, Yet Brilliant But Lazy: The Spider-Men are up against the fight of their lives when former enemies from the past work together to destroy the ritual box needed to sent them back home. With a little help from two high school students, and a escape artist with a knack of bad luck behind her, familiar faces are reacquainted. Some for better, and some for worse.
3 Is The Magic Number: Goodbyes are hard, but necessary for the greater good. In an emotional conclusion to a day turned upside down, young Peter Peter makes a decision that alters his life forever. A life-long connection is born, and a certain cat has one last piece of advice not just for him, but the for Peter still haunted by his greatest mistake.
Extras & Outtakes
Lost In...New York?
The Heart Of The Spiders: Michele Jones had one important job, keep the ritual box safe and away from the multiversal villains. While the three Spider-Mans are off being the hero, MJ takes her chance to flee the lab in hopes of finding a safe place for the box when Ned fails to close the portal. They get separated in the school and to the teenagers surprise, she comes face-to-face with two other worldly visitors—who are quite familiar with Spider-Man themselves.

fandom v canon common misconceptions? if you would ofc ❤️
Absolutely! This is suuuch a broad topic and I could go a million directions here, so I’m just gonna name a bunch of canon things that are often forgotten or misrepresented in batfam fanon. Bullet point listy time, though some of these could be full deep dive posts of their own. I’ve decided not to get into characterization on this post, so I’m trying to keep to objective facts/events.
source: As usual, all my claims are based on post-Crisis continuity (1986-2011), which is the best, but which I also think is the base for most fanworks. Don’t get me wrong; some people are explicitly writing for new52 or rebirth, and pretty much everyone has a least a little new52 influence, but the archetypal fanon batfam references a lot of post-Crisis events and post-Crisis backstories.
(remind me at some point to write a primer post on DC continuities, crises, and the multiverse because I think everyone deserves to understand what tf ‘post-Crisis’ means)
obviously y’all are welcome to ignore as much of this as they want in fanworks and make their own fun, so please do not respond in bad faith and think i’m trying to command you all. As always, this got long:
outside of the batfam
DC heroes are a very tight-knit and interconnected community. There are a lot of superhero teams with constantly changing rosters, the entire community semi-regularly comes together to defend against huge world-ending threats, and you can pretty much ‘six degrees of kevin bacon’ from any one character to another (assuming they haven’t personally worked together!)
Dick considers the Titans his second family--which includes not just Wally, but people like Donna Troy, Roy Harper, Garth, Koriand’r, Vic Stone, Joey Wilson, etc. That team has reformed like five times.
Tim spent plenty of time with Young Justice, then weekends with the Teen Titans.
Cassandra worked with the Outsiders for a while.
Barbara’s biggest priority is absolutely fuckin’ not Batman, but her own team, the Birds of Prey, where she also has her closest friendships.
....tl;dr: these people have significant lives and important loved ones outside of their families
While we’re at it, the batfam (or bat team, depending on how you define “batfam”) also includes/included characters like Huntress and Azrael, and regular allies in the Birds of Prey, the Outsiders, Catwoman, Jason Bard, and various magicians
Dick’s Titans are based in NYC, Tim’s Teen Titans are based in San Francisco, and Jump City only exists in the animated show.
Nanda Parbat is not the base of the League of Assassins. Nanda Parbat has multiple times been attacked by the League and is very much against it. (Also it’s a super special magical place but LOOk that is far outside the bounds of this post.)
legal & living situations
Dick has only lived in Gotham when he was Robin or Batman. He is never based in Gotham as Nightwing; he just sometimes comes to visit and/or help with major issues.
Dick has lived in NYC at least as much as Bludhaven. He was in NYC during Jason’s entire tenure as Robin. He only moved to Bludhaven after Tim became Robin, and the city was completely destroyed before Damian ever appeared (and Dick returned to NYC in the meantime).
None of the batkids have lived together in the manor while Bruce was around*. Dick and Jason both lived essentially as only children. Damian started living in Gotham only after Bruce vanished. Tim left shortly after Damian arrived. Dick and Damian moved to the penthouse after Bruce vanished. They are all family, but none of them are these perfect archetypical siblings.
(*The exception to this is a short period of time where Tim and Cass theoretically would have both been living in the manor, but there was never a comic that showed them together, and Cass was rarely acknowledged by then.)
Tim, as discussed here, went to boarding school before Robin. He wasn’t spending time alone at home.
Tim didn’t move next door to Wayne Manor until after becoming Robin.
Tim’s mom died shortly after he was introduced, but his dad was alive for the majority of his time as Robin. He once had a real laugh when someone mistakenly thought Batman was his dad.
Cass also knew the bats for years before being adopted (shortly after Tim).
Cass was kept isolated by her father during her childhood, then ran away when she was 8 and remained on her own until reaching Gotham.
Barbara is at least as much of a mother-figure to Cass as Bruce is a father-figure. For a while, Cass lived in the clock tower with her.
Stephanie and Barbara are absolutely not Bruce’s kids, and both have single parents trying very hard for them--Crystal Brown having pulled herself together and improved into a good mom during Steph’s adolescence.
Jim is technically Barbara’s adoptive father, originally her uncle, who took her in after her bio parents died.
Dick continued to be Batman even after Bruce returned, and he and Damian and sometimes Alfred continued living together in the penthouse while Bruce traveled (also sometimes with Alfred). There were double Batman team-ups.
I am begging y’all to let a woman exist
There has never ever been a time when the batfamily exclusively consisted of Bruce, Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian. Barbara has been a big part of the team since her introduction. Cass and Steph (and Helena Bertinelli!) were major players well before Jason came back to life or Damian was introduced. The Robins include Steph. Bruce’s kids include Cass. Team Bat includes everyone listed above.
Dick is incredibly close with platonic soulmate Donna Troy. Dick has a strong friendship with Babs even after they broke up. Dick was fundamentally changed as a person by his relationship with Kory. And that’s not including Lilith Clay, Bridget Clancy, Amy Rohrbach, Raven, Supergirl...
Stephanie was one of the most important people in Tim’s life. He also very closely bonded with Cassie Sandsmark when they went through a lot of grief together.
Damian has a little brother/big sister relationship with Steph, one of the few people he gets along with.
More importantly, all these woman have interesting stories on their own too--Cass struggling to relate to others and feel worthy of good things; Steph finding a love of helping others and grappling with her need for approval; Babs remaking herself stronger than before; Helena having the exact story everyone wishes Jason would have.
Cass is not in the habit of solving others’ emotional issues. Cass is pretty preoccupied with her own emotional issues--and one of her major struggles actually lies in difficulty understanding people. Her body language reading can tell her the broad strokes of what someone is feeling, but not the details, and certainly not the why.
miscellany
Stop! Making! Dick! A! Cop! What I said about people being free to do what they want and enjoy fanon is still true of everything else on this list, but I have decided to suspend it for this bullet point. I am now ordering you. Stop it. Dick became a cop one (1) time, for the specific reasoning that Bludhaven’s force was ultra-mega corrupt and he thought he would only be able to take them down from the inside. Think of it like some spy shit if that helps. And stoooooooop treating cop as a viable career path for this good man.
Dick’s other jobs include bartender, children’s gymnastics teacher, museum curator, and a period of time where he just decided to copy Bruce in the idle rich heir thing.
Dick has no strong attachment to cereal.
Tim has no strong attachment to coffee.
Steph likes waffles, but not to any absurd degree.
Beyond just shortened names (like “Cass”), no one in the batfam is regularly referred to by other nicknames.
As discussed here, Tim never took pictures of Batman and Robin as a kid.
Tim looked up to both previous Robins, but his most beloved and idolized Robin was undoubtedly Dick.
Lucius Fox runs Wayne Enterprises, no matter who is nominally in charge. Tim became CEO “in title only,” and was never really shown working in the office--let alone going into work every day. He pretty much just handles his Neon Knights charity initiative.
Ra’s al Ghul planned to body-snatch Damian (after Ra’s died in a way the pit couldn’t fix) to keep himself immortal. I’m not sure if he ever actually intended his “heir” to take over the League.
#controversy
Dick and Jason had a completely friendly relationship while Jason was Robin.
Almost everyone got along with Jason as Robin, in fact. He worked with the Titans multiple times and it was all chill.
People were not en masse declaring Tim crazy and delusional for thinking Bruce was alive. Absolutely no one ever suggested Arkham. Also, he didn’t really...explain why he thought Bruce was alive? to anyone?
Tim was never shunned or pushed away by his family after Damian arrived. He ran away to find Bruce on his own--despite Dick trying to convince him to stay--and quickly reintegrated into the family when he came back.
Post-crisis/pre-flashpoint, Jason was a mass murdering, inconsistently characterized villain, who regularly disregarded collateral damage. I don’t bring that up because it was good characterization (it wasn’t!) or because I think anyone should use it (it’s bad!), but because it’s extremely important context for the way others reacted to him.
Jason was put in Arkham by the police. He was kept away from all other inmates (including the Joker). Bruce and Dick agreed this was the best solution, not because Jason was a principled anti-hero who sometimes selectively killed and they unjustly hated him, but because he was, again, at the time an all-over-the-place mass murderer who very clearly expressed his desire to continue mass murdering.
Clark isn’t Kons dad and that’s okay. I’m sorry. I know you guys are really attached to this one. But they are both perfectly happy being brothers.
the passage of time
And I can’t make this a snappy bullet point, but I also notice a tendency in fic to kind of retroactively put the characters into stasis, if that makes any sense. Like--there is often this generic status quo created (Dick as Nightwing in Bludhaven, Jason returned and on okay terms with the family, Tim and Cass adopted, etc), and then every major event in the past is treated like that was the status quo the whole time. In reality, Jason came back to the Gotham pretty late in post-Crisis, towards the end of Tim’s time as Robin. Tim wasn’t adopted until even after that. Damian was introduced even later.
A lot of stuff happened with neither Jason nor Damian around, and with Tim and Cass not yet adopted. And things regularly changed: Dick moved between cities multiple times, Tim moved schools and houses many times, Gotham was devastated and rebuilt, many superhero teams split and reformed, many heroes died and came back, romantic relationships split and got back together, Stephanie was in and out of the Spoiler costume, Tim and Cass lived in Bludhaven for awhile, Alfred quit and returned at least twice...
Don’t get me wrong, I understand why details of timelines in particular are hard to understand when you haven’t read a lot of comics! But I personally am just really attached to all that nuanced history and the differences in what each character was around for and how much each character knows.
If you like that idea, but you’re overwhelmed about learning it all, my initial tip would just be to think about how old your characters are, and realize they’ve only been that old for a year, which might help you conceptualize all these events as things that have happened over a stretch of time as characters grew up and changed--because they haven’t been in stasis forever.
Or check out my timeline :)

Okay, so you punish Wanda for wanting her children, but you reward Dr. Strange with a child that he gets to send off to boarding school? He's never wanted children and never said he wanted children. He gets a fun adventure protecting America Chavez which is really more about doing the right thing and protecting the world than actually connecting with America as a person.
Punish Wanda for wanting children. Reward Strange with a child he never wanted and immediately drops off at magic tibetan wizard school and runs off the moment the universe multiverse is no longer in danger.

if Dr Strange's "make people forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man" spell going wrong started summoning people from other universes who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man
a) why did it summon Tobey Maguire and not Kirsten Dunst
b) when he tried to fix it by casting a "make people forget Peter Parker altogether" spell DID THAT AFFECT EVERYONE IN OTHER UNIVERSES ALSO
c) does Maguirederman have to go home and RE-INTRODUCE HIMSELF TO HIS WIFE
god what a stupid spell
Okay, you remember in the Diana Wynne Jones book Witch Week, set in a grim boarding-school in a world where witchcraft is real and illegal in the 1980s, one of the boys who is just discovering he's a witch, Charles Morgan, decides to take revenge on the popular boy Simon Silverson (who has humiliated him for being a weirdo) by casting a spell with the words "Simon Says, Simon Says, whatever Simon says is true," thinking this will inconvenience Simon but actually initially makes him more popular because it looks like he can grant wishes, but then the spell starts causing chaos because Simon doesn't understand how it works and starts saying things that really mess life up - like he jokingly says "I've got the Golden Touch!" and therefore immediately he has, with all the pitfalls THAT had for Midas - and Charles' friend Nirupam Singh tries to undo it by making Simon say, "Nothing I say will come true from now on," but as the enchanter Chrestomanci points out when he arrives to clean up the mess, this only reverses the direction of the spell, which is incredibly powerful because having no proper mentoring or education in magic Charles has no idea of how strong and gifted a witch he is, and could potentially unmake the world depending on what Simon says -
it feels like THAT kind of mess in the making.
By the way, I adore Witch Week. I first read it when I was sick in bed with a vomiting bug and my mother brought home some library books for me. It was the first book by Diana Wynne Jones I had ever read and it captured my imagination with a joyful intensity - I forgot I felt sick while I was reading it. It was also the first story that introduced me to the idea of a multiverse and parallel, similar but different worlds. I warmly recommend it.

It’s Undertale’s anniversary! And while thinking about what it’s meant to me for the days leading up to this, I realized that while I had drawn art for my undertale AU and explained it to plenty of friends, I had never actually… written it down.
Whoops.
But! For the anniversary, I will explain Failuretale, my AU that I’ve been developing/holding onto/obsessing over for the past four years.
Details (and art!) under cut, but TL;DR: The monsters are man-made robots that had some sort of defect causing them to be marked as failures and thrown into the underground. Humans eventually became paranoid of their escape and sent Frisk in there, armed with a killer AI, to destroy them all.
THE BACKSTORY:
Occasionally, humans are born as wizards and have various magical powers. These powers can be genetic, especially ones connected to the soul mechanics themselves.
A family called the Dreemurs have the hereditary ability to take/give LV.
They figure out that if they make a blank soul template and put LV into it, it’ll become a rudimentary soul (AKA monster soul).
Tumblr media
The first sentient robot is made this way in the late 1800s- Mettaton! He was sadly ahead of his time. People hated him. And since he was sentient, they couldn’t just scrap him, so they threw him in an abandoned mine in Mt. Ebbot and erased all traces of him from public view.
Tumblr media
This was named the Failure Protocol.
They kept making robots at a steady rate, for different purposes, at different stages of technology, with some having fatal flaws that they couldn’t fix with body mods so of course the population of the underground kept growing.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Delta labs, the company owned by the Dreemurs, was built over Mt. Ebbot for convenience.
CHARA’S STORY
Around the 2000s, Chara was born, with Christina “Chris” Dreemur, the current owner of Delta Labs and presidential candidate, as their mother.
Tumblr media
Being super busy, Chris built Toriel, Asgore, and Asriel as a foster family for Chara to take care of them.
Tumblr media
Chara discovered the underground, and, shocked by how wrong this was, devised the plan with Asriel.
Instead of using the plan to cross the barrier, they needed the extra power to be able to take the six souls- Chara wanted to take direct revenge on the board members of the Labs that keep the Failure Protocol in law.
Plan goes pretty much the same from there; Asriel chickens out and Chris orders him to be disassembled and thrown in the underground. Those parts become the gearbed, which is this AU’s flowerbed, later used by Alphys to make Flowey.
Tumblr media
Dreemurs are offered the choice to stay, but they refuse and go underground willingly, each having different points of view about humans and so going through their divorce.
Asgore proposes his plan to kill any humans that come into the underground to the robots and becomes king, establishing the royal guard and royal scientist.
Tumblr media
Six souls fall (I have details for all of them separately but that’s too much for this already long post)
FRISK’S STORY
100 years after Chara’s death, Chris is still alive through manipulation of their LV and is ruling the United States- not with an iron fist, but she’s still enacting the Failure Protocol.
She also establishes a school within Delta Labs for the gifted engineers.
Frisk wins a lottery to get in, being an amateur tinkerer.
During their time there, they discover illegal genetic experiments (AKA Amalgamates) and are locked up to prevent the information getting out.
At the same time, the board and Chris have become worried that the robots will break out soon and inevitably wreak havoc.
They develop the first real AI; no soul, just programming, designed to ruthlessly seek out and destroy failures.
Tumblr media
The problem with this AI is that it’s much too obvious- it would be destroyed immediately if it landed and started spouting about killing everyone.
But hey, we have this kid that we can’t let outside ever again, why don’t we put the two together and make the kid balance out the AI’s not-so-subtle tendencies?
Frisk is given cybernetic enhancements and the AI is placed inside their mind, gaining the ability to both talk to Frisk and take them over bodily through a fight of will.
Tumblr media
Problem is, Frisk is pacifistic (of course) and refuses to collaborate.
Ironically, the project is deemed a failure and they are both locked up again, with the AI finally being given a name: Failure 9-20. It’s a terrible name, and they’re eventually given another one, but that’s another story for another time.
Chara comes back into the picture when they turn up in Frisk’s cell, as a ghost, offering to help them get out.
Chara leads Frisk through the Labs, but the AI gets angry as they are being taken away from their goal. They take over and cause enough ruckus to set off the alarm.
Frisk has to run, and they end up stumbling into a strange part of the lab, with a mysterious portal to the multiverse...
Tumblr media
And there it is! This is a lot. I do have more, but I didn’t think I should go on, as this is enough to get the jist. There might be more to come in the future.

The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is easily one of the most paranormal places on Earth. More than the singing glacier. More than the pit of vampires which is just an infinitely deep pit full of vampires. Even more than Hyperboa, the floating island that moves with the Earth so that it is always sunny. Yet, we have found in our travels and studies that the Bermuda Triangle is rarely weird for the same reason in every universe. Sure, it’s always the place where planes and ships and subs go missing, but the source of it is hardly the same across dimensions. It is as though there is a multiversal rule that the Bermuda Triangle must be a hive for Weird Factor activity but it was like a really vague rule that was open to interpretation so everyone has there own way of following the rule. Like for example, when I was in lower school we had a rule that you couldn’t cheer with noise. If you wanted to congratulate someone you could only do silent cheers, so as not to take up so much time. But there are a lot of things you can do to cheer someone on without making noise. Including, as my teacher soon learned, a twenty minute multi-step interpretive dance. The Bermuda Triangle is like that. Fortunately for you we’ve spent some time traversing the multiverse (and outright guessing) and so we’ve be able to compile this here list of...
Things that might explain the Bermuda Triangle in your universe:
A giant invisible monster that loves eating vehicles.
A portal to another universe.
A giant magnet at the bottom of the ocean that pulls in boats and planes.
Shrinking energy that causes any vehicle to pass through it to shrink down so people think they’ve gone missing when in reality they’ve just set off to have a series of exciting and death-defying micro-adventures!
The Bermuda Triangle is actually home to the sickest party scene in the entire world. Boats enter it, realize that a dope time is being had by all, and decide to just stick around. Forever.
Dr. Brainwave’s lair filled with unstable machinery that keeps going off without his supervision. <Yeah, that’s why I moved. That plus the free rent.> Wait we’re not even charging you rent?!
A whirlpool that’s also a time vortex whaaaaaat?
Mystical blue lightning that grants sentience to vehicles who all decide that they’re done being slaves to humans and strike out on their own after ditching their passengers on a random island (if they’re lucky).
Nuclear sea life.
Angry Atlantians who are trying to get some sleep.
Demons disguised as water.
Its actually a transdimensional city.
Lizard Mafia headquarters.
The Safest Place On Earth™ a resort which advertised itself as being the safest place on Earth before it went completely off the rails. You see, in pursuit of this goal, the staff developed an AI that automatically removes potential dangers from the island. Obviously the very first thing it did was murder the staff so good luck trying to get a frikkin airplane anywhere near it.
Giants who need bath toys.
People who hate birds and will do whatever it takes to knock them out of the sky but don’t actually know what birds look like.
Greek monsters.
A large contingency of “funny uncles”.
This is an interesting one. You ever wonder where light houses go when they fall out of use? You’d be surprised to learn that only about 43% of them become occupied by bearded men in yellow rain slickers who then live there for all eternity. The rest of them all get inexplicably warped away to one dimension’s Bermuda Triangle. Once there they serve to confuse any ships who have the misfortune of passing through, often causing them to crash into other light houses.
That’s where they put all the dinosaurs.
Aliens.
Aliens but not ^those ones. Different ones. They’re just trying to abduct the water, you know, for drinking, and all these stupid ships keep floating into the tractor beams. You can’t drink a ship. It’s just a huge waste of everybody’s time.
Ship-in-a-bottle enthusiasts who don’t entirely get the hobby and just trap full size ships inside giant bottles and then shrink them.
The United States government is just wholesale stealing people.
IRL pop-up ads. (Ironically most of these are for compasses.)
In one universe the Bermuda Triangle is sort of like a one stop witness protection shop. Ships go in, magically get entirely new paint jobs and everyone on board gets an entirely new identity aaaaaaaand memory wipe. Wacky stuff wacky stuff.
A big ol trap door. (This is only in universes where the world is literally a stage.)
Heavily armed cannibals.
In some universes the eponymous triangle is actually a ramp that leads all the way up into space where the ships just kind of float around forever. (The people inside all die.)
“The notion that the Bermuda Triangle is a supernatural or paranormal location where a disproportionate amount of ships and planes have been lost has been dismissed by most reputable sources. In reality the vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle is amongst the world’s most heavily trafficed shipping lanes. The overwhelming majority of ships and aircraft that pass through it do so completely unscathed.” So a government coverup I guess.
As a superhero, you’ll no doubt be called upon to investigate many a disappearing ship or plane in the Bermuda Triangle. So study up. It’s going to get weird out there, so it’s best to be prepared.
