pikasweets replied to your post: The AI is bad, not the raids. You’re just too...
extremely hot take: if you’re going to have a multi-user feature that’s AVAILABLE IN SINGLEPLAYER, you should, at the bare fucking minimum, put in the effort to make the AI as “average human player” level as possible or it should not be fucking accessible as a single player activity
That’s definitely a good one, but realistically the solution is that if your game relies on multiplayer for a core function of the game, you should have the ability to engage in multipleyer for free without excess charges.  Internet access, for a game console, should be free.  There is no excuse for anything else.

Battle for Wesnoth main menu The first thing you need to do if you want to play a multiplayer game is to choose which kind of game you want to play. Click the multiplayer button in the general menu of Wesnoth. A new window will pop-up, asking you what kind of multiplayer game you want to play. The Battle for Wesnoth Forums. Discussion of all aspects of multiplayer development: unit balancing, map development, server development, and so forth. The development team is proud to present version 1.12 of The Battle for Wesnoth! This release features many improvements in all areas, including a completely revamped interface, a new multiplayer faction, dozens of new portraits, updated unit animations, hundreds of bug fixes, and a vastly improved map editor. Clock lcd display.
Battle For Wesnoth Review
The current multiplayer game is just a big mass elimation game. It would be fun to offer some other types of multiplayer games. Basically, just different win conditions:
Wesnoth's multiplayer implementation consists of a typical client-server infrastructure. A server, known as wesnothd, accepts connections from the Wesnoth client, and sends the client a summary of available games. Wesnoth will display a 'lobby' to the player who can choose to join a game or create a new game for others to join.
The current multiplayer game is just a big mass elimation game. It would be fun to offer some other types of multiplayer games. Basically, just different win conditions: Control: side that owns the most villages at the end of the game turns is the winner. Loss of leader results in instant loss, since you can't own villages.
Control: side that owns the most villages at the end of the game turns is the winner. Loss of leader results in instant loss, since you can't own villages. Strategy would revolve around getting and holding villages. The gold/income itself is relatively unimportant. You usually don't find very hard over villages, so the game play/strategy will be rather different. Knowledge: side with the largest sum of XP between all their units wins. The value of your units becomes paramount. Sacrificing units, fodder, and other 'throw away' techniques become worth very little. Large armies are key, so income is important, but the army has to actually see battle. Could result in situations where players try to 'lock away' their level 3 units to keep them safe. Could be very interesting to play out.
Tumblr media
Wealth: side with the largest amount of gold wins. Think this might be relatively boring. Would be similar to a Control game, except that actual wise use of the income would be important. Want to control villages, but don't want to expend all your gold to do so. Slayer: side with the most kills wins. Similar to normal mode, except that killing the leader become relatively meritless. Can be harmful, even, since it means there won't be any more enemy units to kill.
Tumblr media
And so on. In the case of a tie, make an option (at game start) to elimate all sides except those that tied, and extend the rounds by 5 turns.
Battle For Wesnoth Multiplayer Mod
Another fun mode taken from recent popular 'party game' multiplayer RPGs would be to give each side a secret goal. Only the player of that side would know their own goal. At the end of the match, the sides are scored based on how well they accomplished their goal. Gameplay can end up focusing on trying to figure out your opponents goal (why does he keep grabbing all those villages he doesn't need? hmm..), foiling those goals (well, I don't need villages, but if I hold them he can't get points for having them), bluffing your opponents (my goal is to get a lot of kills, but if I send out scouts taking villages, they'll think my goal is to control villages), and of course to succeed at your own goal (need to conserve gold to get points). Being obliterated won't even necessarily mean you lose - if you happened to have a ton of gold when you died, and your goal was to collect gold, you might just win, although dying should have a penalty on the points, and killing all enemies should have a bonus.

Yet another fun variation on multipleyer would be a 'multiplayer series.' SOmething like a campaign, only without plot. When a game is over, a new game is automatically started on a different map. (Randomly generated, pulled out of a list definedon the server, whatever). Players may recall units from the previous game. Players that were oblitered in the previous game should get a boost to starting gold to offset not having any units to recall at all.

thanks to everyone who responded! i put it underneath a cut since it got a bit extensive. feel free to answer further if you’d like, but also no obligations! i find this all very neat :0
steeviemimi replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
My mom gets overwhelmed by card games very easily, but due to extended family poor health we spent a lot of time waiting in airports and playing King's in the Corner (A multipleyer solitaire). The rules are simple and the pacing slow enough that my mom can keep up, but there's enough strategy to keep the rest of us engaged. That "strategy" involves hoarding key cards and my mom likes to joke with us and accuse us all of cheating when we do hoard
oh interesting! i haven’t heard of king’s corner, but for a bit my family was really into that computer game spider solitaire and my mother would literally play it for hours at night. how did y’all come to find out about that game specifically?
also hehe accusing others of cheating was like a staple of our family games of pounce. the younger kids obviously were cheating, but also we often tried to give them easier rules to play by since there are like three different moving parts to managing your game setup.
secretagentdragon replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
Cheat was really big with my family when I was younger
oh is that an alternate name for BS? i find it neat that certain games have so many different names and iterations. did you all play it at family gatherings or just in your immediate family? did you like playing it yourself? i’m personally not fond of playing BS, just because i’m a bad bluffer and strategist haha!
bartcore replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
skipbo was big in our family!!
oh i haven’t heard of skipbo! i looked it up a little and it’s one of those specifically branded/packaged card games as opposed to ones with playing cards yeah? how did y’all come to know about it?
foxesforsale replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
not myself, but my friend's family plays Scopa, the italian card game CONSTANTLY, its been passed down generation to generation
oh that’s really cool! wikipedia calls it “one of the two major national card games in Italy,” that’s pretty prestigious. i’ve never seen an italian deck, i like how illustrative the example ones on the wiki look!
m-97viper replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
my family always plays card games together! mostly shanghai rummy. we've been playing it since i was a kid
i don’t think i’ve ever played that iteration! my immediate family and i have a practice of playing a version of gin rummy while waiting for food when we’re dining out on vacation haha! do you have any specific memories of a game?
aydenburd replied to your post “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”
Yup, some game called "amazing grace" we'd always play at all our family gatherings haha
google turns nothing up for yours! interesting, a mysterious last card game!! it’s a bit hard to describe or understand card games without a demonstration imo, but do you have any comparisons for it? did someone specific in the family teach everyone? my aunt is the one who taught us all pounce, it’s something she learned from her college roommate.
charmingheathen replied to your post: “does anyone else have a family tradition with playing cards?...”:
my family doesn't play monopoly because we get too angry :')
LMAo oh no! i’m assuming the board game? my immediate family and i used to play that, fortunately we only had anger escalations once or twice.
