I’ve been slowly thinking over the last… basically since Neo came out, that I’d probably want to do at least SOME TWEWY dolls at some point. It’s still a question which version of the original cast I’d go with - either version presents interesting challenges, I have SOME limits and would not want to do both, that is eleven dolls (with Eri) - but I’d sort of convinced myself away from the Wicked Twisters sans Beat and Neku because I’d feel the need to do all of them and Rindo’s coat is so elaborate and would be so difficult even simplifying for scale I’d sooner learn to weave.
Which was a shame, I’d think, because Shoka’s design looks like it’d be FUN.
And then sometime in the last couple weeks it occurred to me, the yarn I’ll be using for Roxas’s hair could easily also be used for Fret’s. But still, no. Rindo’s coat is up there with the Wayfinders’ everything, I’m not touching it.
And then yesterday I caught myself thinking about ways to do Rindo’s coat in crochet. Which I would absolutely not be doing, realistically I could probably manage it with advanced enough knitting after I do the other *deepest of sighs* NINE DOLLS, but crochet is just… no. No. I simplified out the leopard print on Lea’s pants why the HELL would I want to try something that has it in black and white along with like six other patterns?
But I can see which way my brain is going. It will not be soon. It will not be until I’ve finished SEVERAL other projects, and therefore probably not for over a year at least. But I think I should start planning for the fact that eventually there will probably be a Creative Urge that will eventually be the whole set of playable characters across both games. *
* What? Rhyme counts. Sure, she’s a pin and also a squirrel at the time but you DO control Rhyme.
I at least haven’t thought seriously about the Wayfinders. Yet. If I’m doing Rindo’s coat then the Wayfinders for Bro (for whom they are HIS favorite trio) seems like a matter of time no matter how implausible that sounds in yarn.
*Sigh* God help me.
#crafting with regalli#long post#maybe even worse than Rindo’s amazing multipatterned dream coat: Minamimoto’s outfits are ALL near-exclusively black#he’s not the only character I’ve seriously considered with that problem - see also: Xion Doll already exists - but it is never enjoyable#it eats all detail you shouldn’t do it don’t be like me kids. just say no to black-on-black detailing in yarn. it won’t work.#… actually no. thought about the coat again. it is definitely worse than even the Neo look’s drapey hood#I probably wouldn’t do them all in one go that’d be EXHAUSTING.#it would probably be 1-2 at a time and then another project of some form before going back to them#like. I spaced out the Twilight Town gang and there will only be five total. And I plan on doing a couple others before Isa#even hoping none of the TWEWY kids give me tendonitis again that would still be TEN DOLLS#(eleven if the OG designs because I would add Eri. If she had a Neo design I’d be planning eleven by default)#that is just… so many#I am going to run out of shelf space SO HARD. must say.

A lonely ten-year-old Fredrick being freaked out of the ghosts in their kingdom but ending up coming back to them due the ghosts being literally the nicest to him than everybody else has ever been.
Fredrick knows a few interesting facts and he's willing to share them, kinda liking how it feels to be apart of a conversation, to have somebody chortle at his lame jokes and... listen. Just listen.
The ghosts don't interrupt him. They don't take papers out his hands and throw them on the floor. They don't tell him that the things he cares about are stupid or useless.
They listen.
And that alone makes him shine like a sunflower caught in the summer sun's beams.
Or
A stressed-out fourteen-year-old Blaine venting his frustrations in an empty room, pacing back and forth until he hears a kindly, floaty voice ask if he's alright.
He stops, blood running cold. For a moment, a passing second, he's terrified. At being seen in this state, at being caught with his hair a mess and a smile not firmly on his face.
Only, when he looks to who spoke, its- she's not alive. She's, well, dead but- alive? Kinda? A ghost, Blaine knows about them, Blaine knows everything because he's supposed to everything.
"Oh, Mildred!" Another voice calls out, male and like old rust, strained with concern. "You've done scared the poor lad!"
"I- I'm alright," Blaine says and he tries to force the corners of his lips to quirk upwards because there's so many people (dead people) in this room and he doesn't got the slightest clue what to do in this situation. Too much. It's all too much and he needs to get out. When he opens his mouth to explain he's 100% okay, he ends up spilling his heart out.
The ghosts tisten to every concern he's got. They don't look bored or annoyed or upset.
When he's done, Blaine feels empty. Hollow. He feels like he's got his heart carved out and he... feels better because of it.
Blaine's a tired kid, an overworked boy, wants everything well and done... and when its done, and he really needs somewhere to go, somewhere he's not expected to be perfect or on time or smiley or... or like himself, he's always got a haunted room waiting for him.
Or
Carefree, chill thirteen-year-old Lance just casually talking to and befriending the ghosts, being curious yet oddly gentle, not wanting to hurt his new friends. He asks about their lives before, asks what it was like to be warriors and painters and suriviors.
The boy thinks that this is all so, so, so cool. He thinks they're all awesome in different ways and he wants to know everything about them.
There will be a time when he asks about death, voice quiet and soft like the small child he once was, but that time is not now.
Now, he's showing off what he's learnt at the academy, all the strikes and hits. He smiles wide when The Knight (Sir Malcom O. Multipattern) compliments his stance.
His silvery friends may not be the most alive bunch, but he's happy with the lot.
-
Or; let these boys be happy .. with ghosts! :)!

Week 2 - Theory - Microphones
Types of microphone
There are two types of microphone commonly used in the studio:
Dynamic mics are typically used for louder sounds, live instruments or amps. They tend to be fairly cheap and durable, without needing a power source. However, they are not particularly sensitive to quieter or higher frequency sounds. They work by responding to changes in sound pressure, moving a diaphragm which converts this into an electrical signal. Typically, higher-end dynamic microphones have a great signal-to-noise ratio.
Condenser microphones are typically used for quieter, more complex sounds. They are more sensitive to higher frequency sounds, however cannot be used in especially loud environments. They are also more expensive, and typically more delicate. The microphone works by using a capacitor with two plates. The back plate is fixed, however the front is not, and so vibrates when sound waves enter. This varies the distance between plates and thus changes the capacitance - one drawback of this method is that the capacitor must be charged to begin with, resulting in all condenser mics requiring 'phantom power'. This is typically given as a 48V signal.
Frequency response
All instruments have their own frequency ranges, and so its important to choose a microphone that will accurately record this frequency range for the most natural reproduction of the sound. To aid with this, microphones have their own frequency response charts showing which frequencies they are most suitable for.
The above chart shows the frequency response of an SM57 microphone. The frequency response of this mic makes it particularly suitable for recording snare drums, as it is fairly neutral between 150-250Hz - the range where the fundamental frequency of the snare lies. In addition, the trail-off on the left of the chart prevents the snare from having to compete with the kick. The SM57 is also useful for miking up guitar cabs due to the dip at 300-500Hz.
The peak on the chart as seen on the right is known as a "presence bump".
Proximity Effect
The proximity effect is the increase in the responsiveness of a directional microphone to bass frequencies as it moves closer to a sound source. This occurs due to a combination of phase and amplitude differences between both sides of the microphone's diaphragm.
Pros:
Can add strength to a thin or particularly bright source
Works especially well to add 'gravitas' to a vocal performance.
Cons:
Certain sources, such as an acoustic guitar, can sound overly boomy if the microphone is placed too close. In the case of the acoustic guitar, the sound hole produces a lot of low frequencies which can easily overwhelm a mic if too close. If wanting to record close to the sound hole, an omni mic should be used.
When recording vocals, the proximity effect can cause problems as if a vocalist moves back and forth then the tonal response of the microphone will change.
On-axis / off-axis
On-axis recording refers to pointing the mic directly at the source with no angle, such that it is perpendicular to the source. This typically sounds brighter, however can cause proximity effect with directional mics.
Off-axis recording refers to angling the mic slightly, causing the high-end to roll off slightly, and causing the proximity effect to be minimised slightly.
Multipattern mics
Some microphones feature multiple polar patterns which can be switched between. For example, the AKG C414 XLS, which has 9 different configurations. 5 of these are the base polar patterns, including a wide cardioid, with 4 combinations between adjacent patterns.

Eden is a multipattern poly-rhythmic sequencer that can generate texture-like MIDI note output (characterized by swarms or waves)Loom (previously MIDI Matrix) is a more rhythmic sequencer with a unique 6 voice polyphony similar to Eden. Both devices are designed to deliver exceptional performance and creativity in studio and live performance situations. You can check out the User Manual over at the website for complete details. The manual is currently for the previous version of Loom. The new versions will be added soon!Common Features (Eden + Loom)Up to 6 Independent sequencer voicesFully customizable patternsStepwise control of velocity, note length, and octaveMIDI effect controlsAbility to use sustain pedal as a sequencer holdOptimized for live performanceUser GuideHow are Loom and Eden different? The main difference is that Eden is polyrhythmic (each pattern can have a different time signature) while the patterns of Loom are synced together. This results in a few inherent differences between the two devices.Loom, being completely tempo-synced, is preferred for playing rhythmic patterns, whereas Eden is more suitable for ethereal and wave-like patterns. Both devices can be locked to tempo, but in Loom patterns are locked to each other.Eden has a few additional features such as a one-shot mode, and the ability to completely unlock the device from Live's tempo. Loom has an added monophonic mode suitable for basslines.Eden with the settings panel closedLoom with the settings panel closedCheck out our YouTube playlist for live demos, demo tracks, and more! A few of these tracks have breakdown posts on the website. Some of them also have free stem downloads if you want to dig in deeper!See it in ActionIf you have already purchased Loom or MIDI Matrix, you get the Loom + Eden bundle for free. Please find the updated downloads by logging into your Gumroad Account (or use your email receipt for access).
