Hiiii ty for such a great uquiz!! Would it be possible to see the description of all the books you could get matched to? I’m curious what the vibes are for the rest!!
hi 🌷 here you go:
White Teeth by Zadie Smith: Excessive, maximalist and very ambitious multigenerational and multicultural epic novel that starts with the unlikely friendship between Archie Jones and Samad Iqbal. It explores themes of race, identity and the intersections of culture, heritage, and modernity. Clever and hilarious dialogue, very creative when it comes to language and style, unique and bold when it comes to narrative. Perhaps a flawed novel due to its ambition, but excellent nonetheless.
Despair by Vladimir Nabokov: Excellent writing; very ambitious and stylish. It is somewhat a twisted novel but you will find a lot of humor despite. The narrator speaks directly to the reader as he writes what he regards as his perfect crime. This novel is one of Nabokov's earliest works in which one can easily identify themes and literary devices that the author explored later in his most known works.
The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolaño: Brilliant and stunning novel about poets and poetry! Very dense and challenging; it requires patience from the reader. This novel is so infinitely dear to me that i can't even explain its brilliance, but i have to give you at least an idea of the plot so: The story is arranged in three parts and told from multiple points of view. It starts in Mexico City, in the 70s, and continues across decades and continents. It follows the adventures and misadventures of Arturo Belano and Ulises Lima—poets, drug dealers, wanderes, criminals. Now, about the themes, the writing, the style, the narration? Just absolutely perfect even at its most tedious, difficult and anticlimactic parts.
The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington: Unconventional, absurd, imaginative and exuberantly surreal apocalyptic fairytale quest. It follows 92 year old Marian who is sent off to a peculiar old-age home. If you aren't familiar with Leanora Carrington's art you should look at some of her paintings because this wonderful novel feels just like her surrealist paintings!
Mrs. Caliban by Rachel Ingalls: This novella tells the story of a love affair between a depressed suburban housewife and an amphibian creature who escaped a scientific research center. It might sound like a quirky fiction story but it actually deals with the most mundane and banal aspects of life and human relationships. Brilliantly written; neat and precise prose, wonderful storytelling. The author knew what she was doing and not a single word she wrote was wasted.
The Borrowers by Mary Norton: Delicately written little adventure about tiny people who live in the secret places of houses. I am enamored (obsessed!!) with miniatures—dollhouses, dioramas, fairies—so imagine how dear this book is to me.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn: The murders of two girls bring reporter Camille Preaker back to her hometown. As she works to uncover the truth about those crimes, Camille finds herself forced to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past. Very entertaining read. It has best seller written all over it (which might not be the biggest compliment lol but i mean for this genre so it is a compliment).
Rage by Sergio Bizzio: Claustrophobic, anxiety inducing, fast-paced psychological thriller that made me think of Bong Joon-ho's Parasite the whole 4 hours it took me to read it. I read it in it's original language, Spanish, and i particularly loved the dialogue; its idiosyncrasies and authenticity (tqm Argentina!)
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby: Rob, an obsessive music fan, reminisces his top five worst break ups to understand his most recent heartbreak. He is a very arrogant and cynical guy who defines his entire life through records, and because he is constantly interacting with music that almost exclusively deals with love—and a very idealistic version of it—he finds himself unsatisfied with the way his life has turned out.
#so sorry it took me so long to reply!!#idk if you meant of ALL the quizzes... 👀 anyone these are 2023's only 🫣#💌#anyway* lol not anyone

Writer Interview game
Considering myself tagged by @queenlua
When did you start writing?
Jr. High is when I started sitting down and really going at it. I'd done visual art things since I was 4 years-old, but storytelling is something I'd always enjoyed. Now I consider myself faster at writing than as an artist, oof.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
Slice-of-lifes that dive deep into IRL topics, I have a lot of fun consuming. Modern set stuff I can enjoy, but usually don't want to write about (mostly cause I'll get neurotic about getting every little thing right)
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
Not by name, though I've been told my prose is 'lyrical', 'poetic', or just compared to older period books. Frankly, there was one creative workshop wherein a classmate was like "Oh, you talk like this too" when referring to my writing, and I just sat there all "?????" Personally, I remember loving Stephen Crane going ham with metaphors, but my childhood was most shaped by old fairytale collections.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
A desk dominating a corner of my bedroom houses my desktop. I'll bring my laptop to bed, or the living room couch (I should try bringing it outside the house more often)
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?
When I'm interacting with a piece of media with a similar idea or, uh... isn't up to snuff with what they've done with a premise. "I can do it better" has fueled some of my longer projects. But mostly, chasing intriguing ideas.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
Culture clash - the nature of harmony - different people making an effort to interact. Those I've found crop up in my romances A LOT (one day I'll get my monster husband ideas down in longform prose). Not too surprising coming from a bi-racial, multicultural home.
What is your reason for writing?
Currently, for fun. An expressive outlet. Half a decade ago there was a lot of interaction it brought, in a mostly good way. Now that my expenses are bigger than ever, I'm kicking the can of "can this make money?" down the road.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Mood setting, description, worldbuilding, and dialogue. If someone likes purpler prose, that's where I indulge. I've honestly been doing various experiments to try and get quicker about finishing fics... alas, I'm simply wordy and slow.
How do you feel about your own writing?
I honestly like it all, even old stuff. That stuff is a snapshot in time that present me can't recreate, so it's fun in its own way even with mistakes (like trying to stuff TOO MUCH in one go). Although I do want to take it to the next step...need to get a manuscript DONE.

Book Blurb:
A sweet and spicy multicultural romantic comedy that that blends the rich tapestry of Filipino courtship rituals with the modern complexities of love, family, and cultural expectations, written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz.
Evan Saatchi can’t keep his eyes off his new co-worker, Dalisay Ramos.
Newly arrived from Manila to lead their travel app’s Asia division, nothing matters more to Dalisay than tradition and family. When Evan asks her out, she soundly rejects him for his cheek.
Evan learns from his Filipino friends that Dalisay expects more from potential suitors. If he wants a chance with her, he’s going to have to go through the Five Stages: the courtship ritual that lovers in the Philippines have performed for generations.
At first, Evan is skeptical—what, exactly, does “servitude” entail? And he has to sing?! But when Dalisay bets Evan that he doesn’t have the nerve to make it through the stages, the game is on.
As Evan attempts to prove to Dalisay that he can win her heart—and the bet—Dalisay is driven to distraction by Evan’s sexy labors, and soon their “courtship” turns into a sizzling secret.
But when modern love and family expectations collide, Dalisay and Evan must find a way to carry a rich history into a shared future.
Featuring a memorable cast of characters navigating the intersection of cultural traditions, workplace dynamics, and the magic of true love, this heart-warming Asian American romance is perfect for fans of Kevin Kwan books, Red String Theory, and other voicey Asian American authors. Melissa de la Cruz thoughtfully explores the push and pull of contemporary desires and deep-rooted familial expectations, all set against the backdrop of a will-they-won’t-they workplace romance that will leave readers swooning.
Review:
Two coworkers begin an unlikely bet: if Evan Saatchi can complete the Filipino courtship practice of "the five stages" then he can win a date with Dalisay Ramos. It's insta love for Evan and Dalisay when they first meet at work... until he asks her out and she hard rejects him expecting him to court her through the Five Stages. Evan has never heard of that but Dalisay is a new hire from the Philippines and she does not want to date the American way, she wants the courtship, she wants the fairytale experience her parents had, and despite liking Evan, she wants him to properly court her. Evan can't resist a bet and he definitely would like a date from Dalisay... if only he could figure out the five stages and how to get her to say yes. This started off fun but then kind of fell completely flat for me. I really didn't see the chemistry between Dalisay and Evan, and unfortunately I really did not like either character all that much. The romance just didn't feel there for me and while I do appreciate getting to learn new cultures and traditions and having a cute side cast of characters, when your main characters are actually lacking a good story and real emotional depth, it kind of makes the read a bit lackluster. While this book was a miss for me, if you would like to try reading a book with two individuals from different cultures trying at romance, then I'd say give it a go maybe you'll have a better time with it than I did.

I wouldn't be mad at all at a Persian Repunzel.
I wouldn't personally be mad at any race honestly, people need to leave that lady from the FANCASTING alone.
But anyway, the Grimm brothers, when they wrote the Rapunzel, we all know was inspired by a Persian Epic (Shahnameh by Daqiqi & Ferdowsi) but she the inspiring character was a side character that simply let's down her hair from a tower to help the protagonist. That's it. Then the brothers were like, "We can build off this, we can make a full-fledged story here."
Edit: ALSO, there have been multicultural Rapunzel retellings for decades.
Also, I just wish Disney would tell new fairytales and in 2d animation as well, not the same story over and over. I miss 2d animation from Disney.

A final, conclusive post about the whole Pierre Dubois situation. Because talking about him and the reception of his work online allowed me to realize the problem is very, very simple.
And it is just that too many people take him for a professional scholar, and his Encyclopedias as actual scientific books.
Yes, he wrote complete and extensive encyclopedias about fairies, elves and lutins that sold massively and have extremely heavy and thorough bibliograpies. But best-selling historical novels can also have bibliographies, and it does not make their author historians.
There is a reason why Dubois is constantly referred to as an "elficologist" rather than "folklorist". He is no doctor and no professor. Pierre Dubois is a collector, a storyteller, a writer, an author. He is very passionate about folklore and fairytales, and he is a true enthusiast of the supernatural and the marvelous, and he is a massive bookworm, but his work stays a poetic love letter to the fairy world, a passion project of collecting all the bits of fairy-lore and elf-lore from around the world, and then trying to weave them into one whole cohesive worldbuilding. It is not clinical, not scientific, it is artistic and poetic in nature. A very well-informed, thoroughly researched artistic and poetic project filled with tons of multicultural references and rare bits of folklore that else would have been lost to time...
But Dubois, if you want, is the missing link between the bothers Grimm's studies on German folklore/mythology, and the "Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide". Yes, Dubois Encyclopedias are references in terms of fairy-fiction, fairy-lore and fairy-study... But the same way Brian Froud and Alan Lee's own fairy books and encyclopedias are references.

PS5 Screenshots 5-24-2023: This is the most scary mysterious and beautiful Open World game I ever got as a birthday present and started playing, in hindsight: I probably should’ve taken screenshots of those wonderful Magic Parkour moves I’ve been using to explore the medieval fantasy planet: Athia which takes place in the Athian 39th century where Athia never transitioned from it’s Medieval Time Period like how Earth and Remnant have, since our real life earth’s current century in the Post Modern Age is the 21st century, while the Advanced Fairytale Planet: Remnant of the RWBY anime influenced media franchise takes place in an alternate 21st century present timeline twice more advanced than our Earth and Far more advanced than that Rustic and Hank Hill esque Narrow minded medieval country bumpkin of a planet that is Athia, and I’ve seen just how much Frey has expressed such foul disdain towards the very medieval planet she didn’t even wanna have anything to do with from the start of her story nor did she ever wanna be a part of in the first place either, and judging that medieval fantasy planet’s narrow minded and toxic periodical mashup personality of the Black Plague Era Medieval Times meets the Paranoid Salem Witch Hunt era, I bet in retrospect if Frey Holland ever happened to be a RWBY fan that grew up living in a Meta Earth timeline that shares same real life pop cultural franchises like our real world-earth does already, I bet Frey had wished she had been transported to a more advanced and multicultural fairytale world such as Remnant of the RWBYverse instead of in athia’s Black Death-Salem Witch Hunt esque batshit crazy crystalian pandemic known as The Break (by Athia’s Disease Terms of course), I know I’d prefer being reborn on Planet Remnant rather than Athia, and I hope you folks like these PS5 of this Japanese American Isekai dark fantasy themed PS5 game: Forspoken (Isekai means another world in Japanese, just so y'know.) I’m now currently playing through both it’s story & exploring it’s open world today, I tell ya' folks what. By The Way, this open world Action RPG game: Forspoken was made both in Japan by design, and in animation physics using the Luminous Engine made by the very Squere Enix developer team that made Final Fantasy XV/15, and in America by story concept written by American Game Writer: Amy Hennig, and the Forspoken characters were Mocap created and voiced by American mocap-voice actors too whose names I can’t remember honestly, especially since I’m now just theorizing if Amy Hennig must’ve possibly drawn inspiration from light novel sourced Isekai Manga, Anime, & Video Game Media franchises that boomed from the 2010's, or maybe just the Another World Japanese Translated Isekai Genre in general I wonder.

What makes Europe’s tourism industry unique
Europe is the land of unrequited love. A paradise where hot summer nights spent under the stars are filled with warmth, joy, and enchantment. Spend the day smiling and conversing as you stroll through charming alleyways or soak into crystal-clear pools. Abundant historical relics, delectable cuisines, and distinctive vistas add browny points to Europe’s tourism Industry.
Explore some of the breathtaking cities on earth to keep the soul nourished! Through its structures and traditions, each enchanted European city creates a love letter to the past. The love lock bridge in Paris, the abstract Gaudi works in Barcelona, and the exotic grand market in Istanbul are a few examples. Instead, be ready for a grand journey through time. Acropolis in Athens, the spectacular Colosseum in Rome, and Venice's amazing floating city are just a few of the sights you can explore. Excellent infrastructure and rail system make Europe a must-visit destination for every traveler.
Regardless of size, every country has its own culture and language. Europe is distinctive as a result. Many nations, each with a unique beauty, scenery, culture, and language, could be visited in under 24 hours. Discover northern Europe's frigid appeal, with its magnificent fjords, snow-capped mountains, icy blue lakes, and hilltop castles. Together with the vivacity of southern Europe, with its brightly painted houses, street art, shaded cobbled streets, lively plazas, and idyllic islands. It is impossible to match the diversity of a continent that extends to both Africa & Asia and reaches the Arctic Circle.
The beauty of European landscapes
Europe is blessed with a diverse range of stunning landscapes that are a feast for the eyes. The entire year in Europe is magnificent. Impact of the pandemic on Europe tourism and recovery
The pandemic has had a significant impact on Europe’s tourism industry, which is a major contributor to the continent's economy. The widespread travel restrictions and lockdowns across Europe have resulted in a sharp decline in tourism, with many hotels, restaurants, and attractions forced to close their doors or operate at reduced capacity.
Travelers across the continent were forced to cancel their trips due to the implementation of travel restrictions and other safety measures to contain the virus. This resulted in a drastic decline in nights spent in the accommodation sector, dropping by over 50% compared to 2019. Fortunately, since 2021, Europe’s tourism industry has been steadily recovering. This reflects the efforts made by governments, businesses, and tourism organizations to safely reopen the tourism sector. The travel industry is also introducing new safety measures to ensure the safety of travelers and employees. The European tourism sector will take some time to recover fully, but it is well on its way toward that goal.
The loss of revenue and jobs has been significant. The recovery of Europe’s tourism industry has been gradual and varied, with many countries implementing measures to support the sector. In the summer of 2021, some countries reopened their borders to international tourists, and many people were eager to travel again, particularly within Europe.
To aid in the recovery of the tourism industry, many European countries have implemented measures such as financial assistance to tourism businesses, marketing campaigns to promote domestic and international travel, and the development of health and safety protocols to reassure travelers.
Despite the challenges, there are bright signs of hope for the recovery of Europe’s tourism industry, particularly with the travel restrictions easing. With continued efforts to support the sector, Europe's tourism industry can emerge stronger from this crisis.
Impact of the Ukraine-Russia War and the Scope of Recovery
The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has had a significant impact on the region, with both economic and human costs. The war has resulted in the displacement of people, damage to infrastructure, and disruption to economic activity.
In addition to the economic impact, the conflict has also had significant social and political ramifications, with the situation creating tension and instability in the region.
The scope for recovery from the conflict is challenging. Efforts are being made to promote stability and support recovery in the region. For instance, the international community has provided humanitarian aid to help those affected by the conflict. Additionally, there are ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
In terms of economic recovery, Ukraine has implemented reforms to strengthen its economy, such as reducing corruption, improving the business climate, and promoting foreign investment. However, the conflict remains a major obstacle to the country's economic recovery. Recovery will require a sustained effort by both domestic and international actors to promote stability, support economic growth, and resolve the underlying conflict.
Global Financial Meltdown and Recovery by Europe’s Tourism Industry
The direct impact on Europe's tourism industry will depend on the extent and severity of the financial meltdown. However, given that Europe's tourism industry is closely tied to the global economy, any significant downturn in the financial markets could have a significant impact on the sector. To mitigate the impact of financial instability, Europe's travel sector may need to adapt and adjust its approach. This could include a focus on domestic tourism to offset the decline in international travel, implementing cost-saving measures, and promoting travel to regions that are less affected by the financial turmoil.
However, recovery from a financial meltdown can be challenging and uncertain. Additionally, the situation can be complex, with the recovery of Europe's tourism industry impacted by a range of factors. They include government policies, international cooperation, and broader economic conditions.
The impact of a financial meltdown following the Ukraine-Russia war is difficult to predict. Recovery efforts will require a sustained and coordinated approach from all stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, and the international community.
