What Are the Most Important Features to Look for in an SUV?
Tumblr media
Choosing the perfect SUV can be overwhelming, given the wide range of models and features on the market today. Whether you're buying your first SUV or upgrading to a newer model, knowing which features matter most is essential. As an official Jeep dealer in Madurai, ARAS Jeep Madurai, we're here to help you navigate this decision. Below, we break down the most important features you should look for when shopping for an SUV.
1. Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency
The engine is the heart of any vehicle, and for SUVs, you need something powerful yet efficient. The balance between power and fuel efficiency is key. SUVs are known for their ability to handle off-road terrains, steep inclines, and heavy loads, so it's important to consider engine size and horsepower.
Power: A robust engine like the Jeep Meridian's 2.0-liter turbo diesel or the Jeep Wrangler’s V6 engine ensures smooth off-road capabilities and high performance on highways.
Fuel Efficiency: With fuel prices constantly fluctuating, opting for an SUV with decent fuel efficiency is important, especially if you use the vehicle for daily commutes. The Jeep Compass, for instance, provides an excellent balance of power and fuel efficiency with its 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo petrol engine.
2. All-Wheel Drive (AWD) or Four-Wheel Drive (4WD)
One of the main reasons people opt for SUVs over sedans is their ability to handle various road conditions. Whether it's navigating through heavy rains, muddy paths, or rugged terrains, AWD and 4WD systems ensure better traction and control.
AWD: This is ideal for those who live in areas with unpredictable weather or frequently encounter wet or snowy roads. AWD automatically distributes power to all four wheels for enhanced traction.
4WD: If you’re an adventurous soul or someone who enjoys off-roading, 4WD is the feature to look for. Models like the Jeep Rubicon are equipped with 4WD systems that can handle even the most extreme off-road conditions.
3. Interior Space and Comfort
One of the primary reasons to choose an SUV is the spaciousness it offers. A good SUV should provide enough room for passengers and cargo, making it an excellent choice for families, road trips, or anyone who needs to haul a lot of gear.
Seating Capacity: Consider how many people you’ll typically be driving around. If you have a large family, a 7-seater SUV like the Jeep Meridian offers ample seating for everyone. On the other hand, if you don’t need the extra seats, a smaller SUV might be more practical.
Cargo Space: SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee come with ample cargo space. Look for features like fold-flat rear seats for extra storage when needed.
Comfort Features: Modern SUVs come with advanced features like heated seats, leather upholstery, and climate control, all designed to make your driving experience more comfortable.
4. Safety Features
Safety should always be a top priority, and today's SUVs come equipped with numerous advanced safety technologies to protect you and your passengers.
Blind-Spot Monitoring: This helps detect vehicles in your blind spot and warns you if you're about to change lanes into an occupied space.
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): If the vehicle senses an imminent collision, AEB will automatically apply the brakes to help avoid or mitigate the impact.
Adaptive Cruise Control: This system adjusts your speed based on the flow of traffic, maintaining a safe distance from the car in front of you.
Lane Departure Warning: If you unintentionally drift out of your lane, this system will alert you, and in some cases, gently steer you back on track.
5. Infotainment and Connectivity
In today's connected world, infotainment systems play a significant role in enhancing the driving experience. Look for SUVs that come equipped with modern technology that keeps you entertained and connected.
Touchscreen Display: Many SUVs, including the Jeep Compass, come with touchscreen displays that allow you to control navigation, music, and other features seamlessly.
Smartphone Integration: Features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow you to connect your smartphone directly to the car, giving you access to apps, music, and navigation directly from the vehicle’s screen.
Sound System: Whether you’re commuting to work or on a long road trip, a quality sound system, like the ones in Jeep models with premium speakers, makes all the difference.
6. Off-Roading Capability
If you're planning to take your SUV off the beaten path, then off-roading capability is something you can't overlook. Not all SUVs are designed for rugged terrain, so if off-roading is on your agenda, make sure to look for features like:
High Ground Clearance: This ensures that your vehicle can navigate rough roads without damaging the undercarriage.
Skid Plates: These protect the underbody from damage when driving on rocky or uneven surfaces.
Specialized Suspension: A well-tuned suspension system helps the vehicle absorb shocks and maintain control on rough terrains. Jeep's off-road models like the Wrangler are known for their off-road prowess.
7. Resale Value
SUVs generally have a good resale value, but some brands, like Jeep, tend to hold their value better than others. If you're looking for an SUV that maintains its worth over time, it’s worth considering a brand with a strong reputation for durability and demand in the used car market.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right SUV depends on your lifestyle, driving needs, and budget. At ARAS Jeep Madurai, we believe that models like the Jeep Compass, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee offer a perfect blend of performance, comfort, and innovation. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly SUV or an off-road adventurer, Jeep has something for everyone.

What is the Energy Efficiency of the Jeep Compass?
When it comes to choosing a vehicle, energy efficiency is often a crucial factor for many buyers. The Jeep Compass, renowned for its rugged design and off-road capabilities, also excels in energy frugality. At ARAS Jeep Madurai, we recognize that our customers seek a vehicle that offers both performance and efficiency, and the Jeep Compass delivers on both fronts. In this article, we’ll delve into the energy efficiency of the Jeep Compass, examining what makes it an excellent choice for city driving and long road trips.
Understanding the Energy Efficiency of the Jeep Compass
The Jeep Compass offers a range of powertrains, each with its own energy efficiency profile. Whether you’re interested in the petrol or diesel variant, the Compass is designed to balance power and efficiency effectively.
1. Petrol Engine Efficiency:
The Jeep Compass features a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo petrol engine. This engine is celebrated for its smooth performance and commendable energy efficiency. On average, the petrol variant of the Jeep Compass delivers approximately 14-17 km/l, depending on driving conditions and driving style. This makes it an ideal choice for those who primarily drive in urban areas but also enjoy the occasional long drive.
2. Diesel Engine Efficiency:
For those seeking more robustness, the 2.0-liter Multijet II Turbo diesel engine provides greater torque and energy efficiency. The diesel variant can achieve an impressive energy efficiency of around 16-20 km/l. This is particularly beneficial for those who frequently undertake long journeys or live in regions where diesel is a more economical option.
3. Transmission Options:
The energy efficiency of the Jeep Compass can also vary slightly depending on the transmission choice. Manual transmissions generally offer slightly better energy efficiency compared to automatic versions. However, the automatic transmission, especially the 9-speed automatic available in the diesel variant, ensures a smooth and comfortable drive while still maintaining competitive energy efficiency.
Factors Influencing Energy Efficiency
While the Jeep Compass is engineered for optimal energy efficiency, several factors can influence the actual mileage you achieve:
1. Driving Habits:
Aggressive driving, such as rapid acceleration and hard braking, can significantly reduce energy efficiency. Maintaining a steady speed and avoiding unnecessary acceleration can help you maximize the fuel economy of your Compass.
2. Terrain:
The Jeep Compass is built for versatility, capable of handling rough terrains with ease. However, driving on hilly or uneven terrain may result in slightly lower energy efficiency compared to driving on flat, smooth roads.
3. Vehicle Maintenance:
Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes, tire pressure checks, and air filter replacements, can positively impact your vehicle’s energy efficiency. At ARAS Jeep Madurai, we offer comprehensive service packages to keep your Jeep Compass in top condition, ensuring you achieve the best possible fuel economy.
4. Load and Accessories:
Carrying heavy loads or using roof racks can increase the vehicle's drag, leading to reduced energy efficiency. While the Jeep Compass is equipped to handle heavy loads, it’s always advisable to pack smartly and avoid unnecessary weight.
Why Energy Efficiency Matters
In today’s world, where fuel prices are constantly fluctuating, energy efficiency is more important than ever. A vehicle with good energy efficiency not only saves you money at the pump but also contributes to a reduced environmental footprint. The Jeep Compass strikes a perfect balance between performance and energy efficiency, making it a practical choice for a wide range of drivers.
Jeep Compass: The ARAS Jeep Madurai Advantage
At ARAS Jeep Madurai, we are committed to providing our customers with vehicles that meet their specific needs. The Jeep Compass is a testament to our dedication to offering high-quality vehicles that excel in both performance and efficiency. Our team is here to help you understand the energy efficiency of the Jeep Compass in the context of your driving habits and requirements. We offer test drives and personalized consultations to ensure that you find the perfect model of the Jeep Compass for your lifestyle.
Conclusion
The Jeep Compass is more than just an off-road vehicle; it’s an energy-efficient companion for your daily commute and weekend adventures. With its range of engine options and advanced engineering, the Compass offers impressive energy efficiency without compromising on the power and capability that Jeep is known for. Whether you’re navigating city streets or exploring the great outdoors, the Jeep Compass is designed to go the extra mile—both literally and figuratively.
At ARAS Jeep Madurai, we invite you to experience the energy efficiency and versatility of the Jeep Compass firsthand. Visit our showroom for a test drive and let our expert team guide you in selecting the ideal model for your needs.

Fiat 500X Sport: It’s sexy, it’s nimble, it’s…

Canadians can say arrivederci to the Fiat 500 as it has been axed from our shores. It may have been agile and a hit to drive, especially the Abarth rendition, but the small three-door hatchback was hungry for fuel and way too pricey. None the less permutations of the Fiat line continue and if you you’re looking to get away from the same old same old squarish compact suvs and crossovers, you can’t get any rounder or different than Fiat’s 500X. Guaranteed you won’t loose it the shopping mall.

Fiat’s all-wheel-drive 500X subcompact crossover went through a refresh last year, adding a new Sport trim model in the process. Differentiating darling of the group, from the other three trims are 18” wheels (the 19” units on my tester are a $575 option), body colored door handles and fender flares as well as new, cleaner, front and rear fascias with LED lamps. Adding flare to the Sport moniker are twin chrome exhaust tips and new for the 2021 color pallet, Rovente Red.
It’ll cost $32,245 to get into the entry level Pop version which includes a rear back up camera, 7-inch infotainment screen the usual Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Bluetooth connectivity. Like the Trekking and Trekking Plus the Pop rides on 17” wheels. At $33,245 the Trekking adds automatic headlamps with cornering fog lights, quilted cloth interior, deep tinted glass and a 1 year subscription to SiriusXM sat radio. The top of the line Trekking Plus at $34,245 will get you pampered with heated leather front buckets, a premium Beats 8-speaker sound system (also available on lesser trims), navigation, and park assist.
Tumblr media
All four trims share a new 1.3L, DOHC turbocharged engine and platform architecture with the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. The new mill incorporates the latest iteration of MultiAir technology valve-actuation as well as engine stop-start technology. The result is a peppy four cylinder that develops 177 horses and an impressive 210 lb.-ft. of torque driving the four wheels through a nine-speed automatic. Sadly that’s where the European (and even more so the Italian) touch disappears, as there is no standard tranny available.

Interior
The Sport is as appealing inside as it is outside. Continuing with the Sport motif are aluminum-faced pedals, a thick, flat-bottomed steering wheel and well-bolstered buckets. Cloth seats are standard, but my tester came with the optional Alcantara inserts with red piping. Nice touch, there as comfortable as how good they look.
Tumblr media
A new instrument cluster with easy-to-read graphics is among the interior’s upgrades and is the centerpiece of a well-executed, uncluttered dash. The steering wheel mounted controls are large and easy to manipulate.  A mode selector knob on the center console gives the driver the ability to select one of three settings depending on road conditions. The 7-inch screen is easy to see, even on the sunniest days. Every 500X has two USB charge ports at the bottom of the center stack.

There’s a two fold advantage to the Fiat’s design and the high seating position; the large glass, gives you an unobstructed view all around and excellent front and rear head and shoulder room. Two full sized adults wouldn’t have any issues in the front, even on long trips, but I could without the round bolster at the bottom of the rear bench. The Sport’s interior touches are tasteful and worth the $500 premium over the standard Trekking.
Tumblr media
Cargo capacity is low, even for a subcompact SUV with just 14 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 32 cubic feet when they're folded.
On the road
This Fiat is another one of those vehicles that you don’t need gobs of horsepower to have fun. It’s the perfect vehicle to go scurrying about town in stop and go traffic. The 500X is peppy, it may not be the quickest wagon in the segment but driving enjoyment is far ahead of most of its competitors. The Fiat's suspension is comfortable for highway cruising and with the wheels pushed out to the corners, our pothole infested roads and highway seams go almost unnoticed. It could use a little more stiffening to make lakeside curves more enjoyable and add some sport to the equation.
Oh and yes it is more fuel-efficient than the 500. I averaged an impressive 8.4L/100kms. While this may not seem like calling up Guinness Record book people, it was far better than what I got with the smaller 500 a couple of years back.
Tumblr media
I do wish manufacturers would stop NOT giving us spare tires. The 500X comes with a two-tiered floor in the back and granted, it is nicely finished. Compressed air, or miniscule compressors do little when you’ve bent a rim hitting a pot hole or had a blow out in the middle of nowhere on a dark stormy night. A donut sized spare is available for $295 and that does not include the tow eye, another $95 option. Ouch!
Tumblr media
 The Achilles heal
At this point you’re probably asking how much. The base Sport starts at $ 35,700 adding the 19” wheels (see above) the Advanced Driver Assistance package ($1,795) which includes adaptive cruise, auto high-beam, blind spot, full-speed forward collision warning, lane departure, lane keep and rain sensing wipers, the Cold Weather Group ($495) includes heated front seats and wiper de-icer,  nav ($700), and the Alcantara seats ($895) brought the tag up to $40,200 not including freight, dealer prep.
Tumblr media
As enjoyable as my time behind the wheel of the 500X Sport was, justifying 40 large for a subcompact SUV is hard. The Fiat is as much a fashion and design statement as well as telling people who you are. Is it worth it? You be the judge.

I tried a visualization method of memorization for the word portion of the test and it worked perfectly; I know I find amusement in goofy things. After the concussion test I headed back to the CIF where I got my equipment adjusted by Trevor to ensure it fit correctly and my risk of getting KO'd was minimized.  cheap jerseys
