Mumbai: Market benchmark BSE Sensex rallied 195 points in the opening trade of the special Muhurat session on Sunday to mark the beginning of Hindu Samvat year 2076. The 30-share Sensex was trading higher by 194.87 points at 39,252.93 in the first few minutes of trade. The broader NSE Nifty also rose by 56.55 points to 11,644.95. nbsp; Barring telecom, all BSE sectoral indices were in the green, led by auto, industrials, metal and basic materials. Brokers said buying activity gathered momentum as investors opened their books on the first session of Samvat 2076. Major gainers in the Sensex pack were Tata Motors, Yes Bank, Infosys, Vedanta Ltd, ITC Ltd, Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Bank, Tata Steel and RIL, rallying up to 16.07 per cent. However, Bharti Airtel, TCS, HUL, Maruti and PowerGrid slipped up to 1.86 per cent. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) net sold shares worth Rs 435.42 crore on Friday, while domestic institutional investors bought to the tune of Rs 440.16 crore, as per provisional data.

BSE sensex: Markets end flat, Sensex below 35,000-mark; Nifty at 10,530

NEW DELHI: In a volatile trade, markets on Tuesday ended flat with benchmark BSE Sensex closing below the 35,000-mark. Sensex finished 41 points or 0.12 per cent up at 34,992, while the broader NSE index marginally gained 6 points or 0.06 per cent to close at 10,530.

After opening over 200 points higher in opening trade, the equity indices gave up most of their profits in the afternoon deals. The 30-share index gained 243 points or o.69 per cent to 35,194. It had lost near 61 points on Monday.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Yes Bank, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries and Sun Pharma were among the major gainers on the BSE index, rising as much as 2.22 per cent. On NSE, except for Nifty IT, Media and Realty, all other sub-indices closed in red. Nifty Media was the top gainer on the NSE platform, up 0.92 per cent.

Also, exchanges will conduct a special ‘Muhurat trading’ session on Wednesday between 1700 and 1830 hours on the occasion of Diwali.

Share benchmarks ended on a flat note of Samvat 2074. The BSE Sensex slipped below the crucial 35,000-level to settle at 34,991.91, up 40.99 points while the broader Nifty  index ended a tad  higher by 6 points to close at 10,530.
