Today may be the 1st of Jan 2024 but it’s not our new year.
‎Today’s date is the 19th Jumada II 1445 AH.
‎I advise parents to take the opportunity to remind our kids about the Islamic Hijri calendar.
‎Here’s 3 things to note
‎1. The Hijri calendar is called that because it began the year the Prophet ﷺ made Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah. An incredibly momentous occasion for the whole Ummah.
‎2. The calendar is based on the lunar months (the cycles of the moon), not the solar. It is therefore around 10 days shorter making the Islamic year 355 days not 365.
‎3. The first month is Muharram and the most famous is the 9th: Ramadan. As we are now in Jumada al-Thani (6th month) it means there’s only 2 months left till Ramadan!

The Bidda of fasting on the 10th of Muharram !
The Fast of Ashura: Cheers as the Prophet SAWW Sheds Tears?
The tenth day of Muharram is the Day of Ashura, the Day of the Tragedy of Karbala, the Day that The Prophet SAWW prophesied in his lifetime.
He also wept on account of the tragedy of this day for Imam Husayn AS who was the victim of brutality of a Muslim usurping caliph, succeeding his usurping father who was appointed a governor of Muslims by a caliph despite the fact that The Prophet SAWW had cursed him and his father, Abu Sufyan.
So, in the court of the bloodthirsty, illegitimate son and ruler Yazid ibni Mu’awiyah ibni Abi Sufyan, on this day there was rejoicing while in The Prophet SAWW’s house there was weeping and suffering. To rejoice and celebrate on the day of Ashuraa and fast is not The Prophet SAWW’s way; it certainly is his enemies’ way.
Traditions to the effect that the Prophet S.A.W.W on migrating to Medina found the Jews fasting on the 10th of Muharram are found in the so-called authentic books of ahadith, namely, al-Sahih of al-Bukhari, Vol.3; Egypt ed.; p.54, Mishkatul-Masabih; Delhi ed.; 1307 A.H.; p. l72. Upon inquiring the reason, The Prophet SAWW heard :
"It is an auspicious day; it is the day when God delivered the children of Israel from their enemy (i.e. Pharaoh), and, therefore, Moses fasted on that day."
The Prophet S.A.W.W. purportedly said, "I am worthier of Moses than you are." Thereupon, he fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast.
Mishkatul-Masabih says
"it was in the second year, because in the first year The Prophet SAWW had arrived at Medina after Ashura, in Rabi'ul-Awwal. Another tradition in al-Bukhari says The Prophet S.A.WW. ordered a man from the (tribe of) Aslam to announce to the people who had eaten to fast the rest of the day, and whoever had not eaten to fast (the whole day), “because today is the Ashura (10th day of Muharram)." That very year the fast of Ramadan (2AH) was ordained and the fast on Ashura was abrogated, another tradition claims.Reportedly, it still carries much importance as a voluntary fast. How can an abrogated fast carry any rewards anyway?
These traditions cited in the so-called authentic books are obvious fabrications.
1. The Jews had their own calendar and months. There is no truth in saying that they fasted on the 10th of Muharram, unless it is proven that this date always coincided with the Jewish day of fasting.
2. The first month of the Jews, called Abib (later named Nisan) coincided with Rajab of the Arabs. W.O.E.Oesterley and Theodore H.Robinson have written that in Arabia "the most important of all the new-moon festivals was that which fell in the month of Ragab (sic), equivalent to the Hebrew month 'Abib, for this was the time when the ancient Arabs celebrated the Spring festival
."Probably, in ancient times the two branches of Abraham's house followed the same system of intercalating an additional month 7 times in a cycle of 19 years. In this way the 7th Jewish month, Tishri I, coincided with Muharram and Ashura of Muharram synchronized with 10th of Tishri I, the Jewish Day of Atonement - a day of fast.
3. However, the two calendars lost their synchronization when Islam, in the 9th year of Hijra, disallowed intercalation.
4. In fact, that parity was lost long before the advent of Islam, because the Arabs did not follow any mathematical calculation in their intercalation. That was why the Muharram of the 2nd year of Hijra began on 5th July, 623 C.E. (Al-Munjid, 21st ed.), months before Tishri I .Clearly, then, Ashura in that year or, for that matter, during the Prophet's whole life at Medina, had no significance whatsoever for the Jews.
5. Why did they fast on that day?
The Jewish Midrashic literature relates the 10th day of the 7th month (Yom Hakippurim - Day of Atonement) to the event of bringing the tablets of the Covenant from Mount Sinai, as Dr. Mishael Maswari-Caspi has written.
6. If the Jews had wanted to keep the long-lost synchronization of Tishri I and Muharram in view, how was it that they forgot to narrate this tradition to the Prophet S.A.W.W.?
7. The month in which God delivered the Israelites from Pharaoh was Abib (i.e. Rajab), as the Bible clearly says: "Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night." (Deut., 16:1)
8. How could the Jews transfer an event of Abib (originally coinciding with Rajab) to Muharram, in open defiance of their Torah?
9. The Prophet S.A.W.W. was sent with a religion to abrogate all previous religions and shari'ah. How was it that he deigned imitate the Jews? It is clear that the Jews had no reason at all to fast on 'Ashura of Muharram at that period; and this story, built on that premise, is just a fiction. Obviously, it was invented by a narrator who only knew that once upon a time Muharram coincided with Jewish Tishri I, but was unaware of contemporary Jewish religion and culture.
This and other such traditions were forged by the followers of the Umayyads, after the martyrdom of Imam HusaynAS, as a part of their campaign to turn the 10th of Muharram into a day of rejoicing. Bukhari, who quoted narrations from every Zaid, Bakr, Amr, Jewish and Christian narrators, left out ahadith from the purified Progeny of The Prophet SAWW. How can it be an authentic book really?
These traditions are of the same genre as those which say that it was on the 10th of Muharram that Noah's ark rested on Mount Ararat, the fire became cool and safe for Abraham, and Jesus ascended to the heavens. In the same category came the traditions exhorting the Muslims to treat Ashura as a festival of joy, and to store grain on this day to increase one's sustenance and bring the blessings of Allah to the house.
The calamities of Ashura were foretold by The Prophet SAWW himself and he wept for his grandson Imam HusaynAS during his own lifetime. To make this a joyous occasion and fast is insulting The Prophet SAWW for it is a total lie and a fabrication. Ashura not only saddened and sorrowed The Prophet SAWW but also prophets of yore. Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa and others wept when they heard what would befall Imam Husayn AS. Imam Husayn AS strove to uphold the message that these prophets AS came to deliver and he is indeed the heir to Adam Safwatillah, Nuhin Nabiyillah , Ibrahima Khalilillah, Musa Kalimillah and Isa Ruhillah AS. He set out to cleanse Islam of the corruption that Yezid and his predecessors had brought to Islam.
Had Imam HusaynAS not opposed Yezid openly, Islam that Prophet Muhammad SAWW brought would have vanished forever. It was in the nature of terrorist Yezid and his kind to use violence to force everyone to accept eheir way, as do the so-called today’s terrorists who are self-proclaimed custodians of Islam. They are but usurpers who betrayed The Prophet SAWW and caused Islam humiliation, hostility and negativity.
It is the message of Imam Husayn AS delivered with his innocent blood shed on the sandy plains of Kabala that instills hope of salvation in the Hereafter and happiness and security in this world. Indeed, it was the Imam AS’ son who had witnessed the massacre, who gave refuge to one of his father’s murderers because that is the way of The Ahlul BaytAS. The Umayyads and the Abassids believed in killing their opponents because they feared losing power, prestige and ill-gotten wealth, while The Ahlul Bayt AS saved the lives of even the killers of their families. History has recorded Imam Ali Al-SajjadAS’ compassion even for his own brother’s killer because Al-Sajjad was the one of the true twelve successors of The Prophet SAWW, “Rahmatan Lil Aalamiin.”.
So, those who are bent upon considering the day of Ashura an occasion of joy are stabbing The Prophet SAWW in the back and Bukhari et. al. who have carried such traditions will answer for their lies on The Day of Judgment.
What will Bukhari say to The Prophet SAWW when The Prophet SAWW asks him the about the number of Muslims he misguided? ?
And those that are hurling accusations of Shi’a being the product of Abdullah ibn Sabah the Jew’s machinations should examine their own Sahah and see how many Jewish forgeries are there in these so-called authentic works?
Who was Abu Hurayra?
Who was K’ab Al-Ahbar? The filth against The Prophet SAWW being churned out by teleterrorists, the Rushdies and other bigots are based on such narrations found in Bukahri et. al.
Let Ashura be the eye-opener for Muslims so that they can see the truth from falsehood, the real message of The Prophet SAWW transmitted by The Ahlul Bayt AS from the forgeries, fabrications and falsity of usurpers, murderers, plunderers and hate-mongers.
When the real message of Islam of Ashura is conveyed, the Muslims instead of cowering will tell the world that falsehood purveyed in the name of love is but satanic illusion that pulls wool over the eyes of the unsuspecting masses. After all, Mu’awiyah, an inveterate Umayyad enemy of The Prophet SAWW and Islam, used the same type ofruse of The Qur’an to fool Muslims at Siffin against the legitimate caliph Imam Ali AS. In a different guise, other enemies of Islam misuse The Qur’an to plant doubts in the minds of unsuspecting masses. It was Imam Husayn AS who on the day of Ashura on the hot sands of the desert of Karbala practiced the truth of Islam and showed that until the last possible moment any armed conflict is to be avoided and fighting is in self-defense only. Indeed, Imam Husayn AS purchased the very land on which he was slaughtered and buried. The terrorists, the usurpers, hijacked somebody else’s land because they followed their tradition of the enmity to The Prophet SAWWand his Ahlul Bayt AS.
No wonderImam Husayn AS has been granted three privileges by Allah SWT:
1. Supplications under the dome of his shrine in Kabala are accepted
2. there is shifa’a (cure) in the earth from his grave and
3. the Aimmah AS would descend from him. The tyrant Yezid wept when he saw the severed head of Imam Husayn. At nights he could not sleep for the guiltand would hit his head against the wall and cry out:“Ma lee walil Husayn” (What have I done with Husayn) and would imbibe alcohol to fall into stupor. The drunken Amirul Muminiin!!So, when the followers of Yezid call him Amirul Mumineen, they are, in fact, declaring their animosity to The Prophet SAWW and rejoicing on the day when The Prophet SAWW himself wept. And then they expect The Prophet SAWW to succor them on The Day of Judgment. Nay, they shall come with Yezid who like Shaitan will tell his followers to blame themselves for the consequences of their deviation from The Prophet SAWW’s instructions of “Qul la As.alukum Alayhi ajran illal Mawaddata fil Qurbaa” ,Tell them that I ask not from you for any recompense save adherence to my Progeny that, inter alia, includes Imam Husayn AS whom the Shi’a have been mourning on
The Day of Ashura with fresh vigor every year for 1400 years and will continue in the same vein to the end of life.
So, the choice is between the cheers of satanic forces or tears for The Prophet SAWW and his Ahlul Bayt AS on the Day of Ashura. A Muslim worthy of his name has no recourse but to follow the way of The Prophet SAWW and spend the day of Ashura in the worship of Allah SWT, mourning for Imam Husayn AS and condoling The Prophet SAWW with tears and lamentations. In a famous hadith The Prophet SAWW said: “Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn”. To weep for Imam Husayn AS is to mourn for The Prophet SAWW also. To do the contrary is not a Muslim’s wont.
It is the observance of Ashura as a day of mourning that separates Muslims from terrorists because on that Monday, 10th Muharram 61 Hijra on the sandy plains of Karbala the terrorists followers of Yazid ibni Mu’awiyah ibni Abi Sufyan, killed, looted and imprisoned the kith and kin of The Prophet SAWW and at the end of the carnage celebrated and rejoiced.
On the twenty fifth of this month in AH 95, the terrorist Umayyad caliph poisoned and killed one of the survivors of the Karbala massacre, Imam Ali ibnil Husayn Al-Sajjad AS. Terrorism was perpetrated at Karbala to the Shi’a and continues to this day everywhere there are enemies of The Prophet SAWW. These enemies are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

TEFSIR ibn KATHIR: Surah Fath Ayah 27-28
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
27. Indeed Allah shall fulfill the true vision which He showed to His Messenger in very truth.
Certainly, you shall enter Al-Masjid Al-Haram, if Allah wills, secure, (some) having your heads shaved, and (some) having your hair cut short, having no fear.
He knew what you knew not, and He granted besides that a near victory.
28. He it is Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it superior to all religions.
And All-Sufficient is Allah as a Witness.
Allah has indeed fulfilled the True Vision which He showed to His Prophet
In a dream, the Messenger of Allah saw himself entering Makkah and performing Tawaf around the House. He told his Companions about this dream when he was still in Al-Madinah. When they went to Makkah in the year of Al-Hudaybiyyah, none of them doubted that the Prophet's vision would come true that year. When the treaty of peace was conducted and they had to return to Al-Madinah that year, being allowed to return to Makkah the next year, some of the Companions disliked what happened. Umar bin Al-Khattab asked about this, saying, "Haven't you told us that we will go to the House and perform Tawaf around it?'' The Prophet said,
Yes. Have I told you that you will go to it this year?
Umar said, "No.''
The Prophet said,
Then you will go to it and perform Tawaf around it. Umar received the same answer from Abu Bakr As- Siddiq, letter for letter. This is why Allah the Exalted and Most honored said,
Indeed Allah shall fulfill the true vision which He showed to His Messenger in very truth. Certainly, you shall enter Al-Masjid Al-Haram, if Allah wills, (and He willed that this matter shall certainly occur), secure, )means, `upon your entering),' (some) having your heads shaved, and (some) having your hair cut short,
i.e. and some of them indeed had their head hair shaved, while some of them had their head hair shortened.
The Two Sahihs recorded that the Messenger of Allah said,
O Allah! Be merciful to those who have their head shaved.
The people said, "O Allah's Messenger! And (invoke Allah for) those who get their hair cut short.''
He said,
O Allah! Be merciful to those who have their head shaved.
The people said, "O Allah's Messenger! And those who get their hair cut short.''
The Prophet said,
O Allah! Be merciful to those who have their head shaved.
The people said, "O Allah's Messenger! And those who get their hair cut short.''
The Prophet said (the third or the fourth time), And to those who get their hair cut short.
Allah said, having no fear, indicating that they will be safe and will have no fear when they enter Makkah. This occurred in the Umrah performed the following year, on the seventh year of Hijrah during the month of Dhul-Qa`dah.
When the Messenger left from Al-Hudaybiyyah, during the month of Dhul-Qa`dah (the sixth year of Hijrah), he went back to Al-Madinah. He remained in Al-Madinah during the months of Dhul-Hijjah and Al-Muharram. In Safar, he marched forth to Khyber, and Allah opened that city for him, partly by force and partly by its people surrendering to him. Khyber was a wealthy province that had abundant date trees and vegetation. The Prophet hired the (defeated) Jews of Khyber to attend to a part of its green fields and divided the province among those who attended Al-Hudaybiyyah with him. No one else except those Companions took part in attacking Khyber, except Jafar bin Abi Talib, who came back with his companions from Ethiopia. Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari and his people also attended that battle. None of them were absent except Abu Dujanah Simak bin Kharashah, according to Ibn Zayd. This fact is well recorded in (the Books of) history. The Prophet then returned to Al-Madinah. When the month of Dhul-Qa`dah came, the seventh year of Hijrah, the Prophet went to Makkah for Umrah accompanied by those who were with him at al-Hudaybiyyah. He resumed Ihram from Dhul-Hulayfah and took the sacrificial animals with him. It was said that the sacrificial animals were sixty. The Prophet and his Companions started reciting the Talbiyah aloud. When they came close to Marr Az- Zahran, he sent Muhammad bin Maslamah before him with the horses and weapons. When the idolators saw this advance regiment, they were overwhelmed with fear. They thought that the Messenger of Allah would attack them and that he had betrayed the treaty that he conducted with them, which stipulated cessation of hostilities for ten years. The idolators went quickly to Makkah to inform its people. When the Prophet made camp in the area of Marr Az-Zahran, where he was close enough to see the idols that were erected all around the Haram, he sent the weaponry, arrows, arrow cases and spears, to the valley of Ya`jaj. He next went on his way towards Makkah with the swords resting in their sheaths, just as he agreed to in the peace treaty. While the Prophet was still on the way to Makkah, the Quraysh sent Mikraz bin Hafs who said, "O Muhammad! We never knew you to be one who betrays his promises.''
The Prophet said, Why do you say that?
Mikraz said, "You are headed towards us with the weaponry, the arrows and the spears.''
The Prophet said, I did not do that, I sent all that to the valley of Ya`jaj. Mikraz said, "This is the way we knew you to be, trustworthy and keeping to your promises.''
The leaders of the disbelievers left Makkah so that they would not have to look at the Messenger of Allah and his Companions, out of rage and anger. As for the rest of the people of Makkah, men, women and children, they sat on the pathways and house roofs watching the Messenger of Allah and his Companions.
The Messenger entered Makkah with his Companions while reciting the Talbiyah. The Prophet sent the sacrificial animals to Dhu Tuwa while riding his camel, Al-Qaswa', the same camel he was riding on the day of Hudaybiyyah. Abdullah bin Rawahah, from Al-Ansar, was holding the bridle of the Prophet's camel and
repeating this poem, "In the Name of He, other than Whose religion there is no true religion, In the Name of He, Whom Muhammad is His Messenger, O children of the disbelievers, stay out of his way, For today, we shall impose on you the fulfillment of its interpretation, Just as we fought with you to accept its revelation, Severe fighting that removes the heads from where they rest, And overwhelms the companion from attending to his companion, Ar-Rahman has sent down in His revelation, In pages that are being recited before His Messenger, That the best death is that which occurs in His cause, So, O Lord, I believe in its statements.''
This story is collected from various narrations. Imam Ahmad recorded that Abdullah bin Abbas said,
"When Allah's Messenger and his Companions came to Makkah, the fever of Yathrib (Al-Madinah) had weakened and bothered them. The idolators circulated the news that a group of people were coming to them and that they had been weakened and bothered by the fever of Yathrib (Al-Madinah). The idolators sat in the area close to Al-Hijr. Allah conveyed to His Prophet what the idolators said, so he ordered his Companions to do Ramal in the first three rounds, so that the idolaters witness their strength.
The Companions did Ramal the first three rounds. He also ordered them to walk normally between the two corners, for from there the idolators would not be able to see them.
The Prophet did not order them to do Ramal in all the rounds of Tawaf out of pity for them. The idolators commented, `Are these the people whom you claimed were weakened by the fever? They are stronger than so-and-so!'''
The Two Sahihs also recorded this Hadith.
In another narration, "Allah's Messenger and his Companions came (to Makkah) on the morning of the fourth day of Dhul-Qa`dah. The idolators circulated the news that a group of people was coming to them, who had been weakened by the fever of Yathrib (Al- Madinah). So, the Prophet ordered his Companions to do Ramal in the first three rounds of Tawaf. The Prophet did not order them to do Ramal in all the rounds of Tawaf out of pity for them.''
Al-Bukhari recorded that Ibn Abbas said, "In the year when the Prophet came as stipulated by the peace treaty, he said, `Perform Ramal.' So that the idolators may witness their strength. At that time, the idolators were watching from the area of Qu`ayqi`an.''
Ibn Abbas said, "Allah's Messenger performed Tawaf of the Ka`bah and the Sa`y at As-Safa and Al-Marwah to show his strength to the idolators.''
Al-Bukhari recorded that Abdullah bin Umar said, "Allah's Messenger set out for Umrah, but the Quraysh idolators prevented him from reaching the Ka`bah. So, he slaughtered his sacrifice, got his head shaved at Al-Hudaybiyyah, agreed to a formal pact with them that he would perform Umrah the following year, would not carry weapons against them, except swords and would not stay in Makkah, except for the period they allowed.
The Prophet performed the Umrah in the following year and entered Makkah according to the treaty. And when he stayed for three days, the idolators ordered him to depart, and he departed.''
Allah's statement, He knew what you knew not, and He granted besides that a near victory.
means, Allah the Exalted and Most Honored knew the benefit and goodness of turning you away from Makkah and preventing you from entering it in the year of Al-Hudaybiyyah, He knew that which you had no knowledge of, (and He granted besides that) `before entering Makkah as you were promised in the vision that the Prophet saw, He granted a close victory, i.e. the treaty of peace that you conducted between you and your idolator enemies.'
The Good News that Muslims will conquer the Known World, and ultimately the Entire World
Allah the Exalted and Most Honored said, while delivering the glad tidings to the believers that the Messenger will triumph over his enemies and the rest of the people of the earth, He it is Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, with beneficial knowledge and righteous good deeds.
Indeed, the Islamic Shari`ah has two factors, knowledge and deeds. The true religious knowledge is by definition true, and the accepted Islamic acts are by definition accepted. Therefore, the news and creed that this religion conveys are true and its commandments are just, that He may make it superior to all religions.
i.e. all the religions of the people of the earth, Arabs and non-Arabs alike, whether having certain ideologies or being atheists or idolators.
And All-Sufficient is Allah as a Witness.
that Muhammad is His Messenger and that He will grant him victory. Allah the Exalted and Most Honored has the best knowledge.

Did you know that up until 1599 that Scotland celebrated Christmas day on December 17th.
So Happy Christmas Day folks, Scottish Old Style!
King James VI, via an act of his Privy Council, decided that Scotland should come into line with other “well governit commonwealths.” but generally well governed France, the date for New Year's Day was changed from the 25th of March and imposed as the 1st of January. So the day after the 31st of December, 1599, became the 1st of January, 1600. Insular England didn't make the 1st of January the official start of the year until 1752. For more facts about New Year check this link out here. Most folks, if asked, will say that New Year's Day falls on the 1st of January each year. It was not always so, either in the United Kingdom in general or in Scotland, in particular. Come to think of it, it still isn't so in many parts of the world. New Year's Day is generally accepted as being the day that marks the beginning of a new calendar year and also the day on which the year count is incremented, but neither was that always so and  still isn't so in the Jewish calendar. The 1st of January is certainly the  first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar and it was also the  first day of the year on the ancient Julian calendar as used in Rome. Despite that apparent synchronisation, January the 1st on the Julian calendar currently corresponds to January the 14th on the Gregorian calendar. In terms of other cultures, the Hijri or Islamic New Year begins on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar. In 2011, it fell on the Gregorian 26th of November. However, the Islamic year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so there's also a  perennially shifting differential between the two calendars. The Hindu New Year falls according to the time and date the Sun enters Aries on the Hindu calendar, which normally means the 13th of 14th of April, depending on the Leap year. The Jewish New Year is celebrated on Rosh Hashanah, which takes place between sunset on the evening before the first day of Tishrei and nightfall on the second day of Tishrei. Strange to say, Tishrei is the seventh, rather than the first, month of the Hebrew calendar. In terms of the Gregorian calendar, Rosh Hashanah will fall between September the 5th and October the 5th. The Chinese, on the other hand, celebrate New Year's Day as the first day of the lunar calendar, corrected every three years, for solar deviations. The date normally falls between the 20th of January and the 20th of February. Until 1599 in Scotland,  the New Year began on the 25th of March, which was in line with England. However, on the 17th of December, 1599, King James VI, via an act of his Privy Council, decided that Scotland should come into line with other “well governit commonwealths.” As a result of Jamie Saxt looking over his shoulder at the likes of 'well governed' France, the date for New Year's Day was changed from the 25th of March and imposed as the 1st of January. So the day after the 31st of December, 1599, became the 1st of January, 1600. Insular England didn't make the 1st of January the official start of the  year until 1752, the year it adopted the Gregorian calendar and way after James VI became James I of England.
According to the 'Register of the Privy Council', “The Kingis majestie and Lordis of his Secreit Counsall undirstanding that in all utheris weill governit commouns welthis and cuntreyis the first day of the yeir begynis yeirlie upoun the first day of Januare, commounlie callit new yeiris day, and that this realme onlie is different fra all utheris in the compt and reckning of the yeiris ...his Majestie with the advise of the Lordis of his Secreit Counsall statutis and ordanis that in all tyme cuming the first day of the yeir sal begin yeirlie upoun the first day of Januare...” Jamie's Privy Council was a powerful legislative and administrative body, which was very useful to him. The King had much more influence over the Privy Council than he ever did over the more independently minded Scottish Parliament. The Privy Council act of the 17th December, 1599, went on to command royal officials, clerks, judges, notaries,  &c., “in all tyme heireftir” to date all “thair decreittis infeftmentis charteris seasings letteris and writtis quhatsumeuir according to this p[rese]nt ordinance.”
They also seemed to have had a shortage of commas in those days.
Scotland has had a chequered past regarding Christmas, perhaps that is why New Year has always been a wee bit mair special to us than the Yuletide season. Why was this? Well you can trace it back to an act of the Scottish Parliament in 1640 that made the celebration of Yule illegal.
Things had started going sour when those spoilsport Calvinist began to get a foothold, the earliest origins of the church falling out with Santa was actually some years previous, when in 1583, Glasgow Kirk at St Mungo’s Cathedral threatened those those who celebrated Yule with excommunication, this was serious in those god fearing days and would have condemned your eternal soul to hell, a fate worse than the death that would precede this!
Why was this? Well there are no celebrations of Christmas, after the Nativity itself  recorded in the Bible. Therefore there should be none in Scotland, even singing a Christmas carol was considered a serious crime. After almost 60 years of build-up they eventually passed it into law. They also looked to the old testament for there religion, more or less ignoring the "papist" new one, as for the Virgin Mary, what was she but a heathen goddess dressed up in Roman garb? So she was dropped, along with all the other saints to whom benighted Papists addressed their prayers.
The law was officially repealed in 1712, but it was still generally frowned upon. Punishments for celebrating Yule were harsh, and there was no public holiday for the Scottish people on Christmas Day.
This next part might surprise many of you, after centuries of not having, what the Yanks call "The Holiday season" Scotland eventually began to shake off it's bad relationship with Christmas, when in 1958 it became an official holiday! January 2nd has for years been our additional festive season holiday, it wasn't until 1971 that Boxing Day officially became a holiday
After centuries of social, religious and political change, Christmas in Scotland has become a very unique celebration.
And as in times long past, we treat this time of year as a holiday season, rather than a single day. Christmas flows into Hogmanay in a glow of family, friends, fun and feasts – and that’s about as traditional as you can get, so raise your glass, turn to your loved ones today and wish them a Happy Christmas.
The first pic shows a full extract from the Scottish National Archives, the third is what is thought to be the first officially printed Gregorian Calender the basis for most calendars in the Western World.

Is it true that the Prophet was transferred into His mother’s womb on the night of Raghaib?
There is a widespread view among Muslims based on some fadail (virtue) books that the night of Raghaib is the night when the Prophet was transferred into his mother’s womb, which forms the first stage of the birth of the Prophet. However, the time period between that night and the day when the Prophet was born indicates that this view is not right. Nevertheless, it might be reasonable to think that Amina, the Prophet’s mother, found out on that night that she was pregnant with the Prophet (pbuh).
It is also claimed that the night of Raghaib was the night when Abdullah, the Prophet’s father, married but the date of the birth of the Prophet refutes this claim. In some regions in some Muslim countries, they call the night when Abdullah married the Night of Raghaib. It is not right to regard the night of Raghaib like that. To say so means the Messenger of Allah was born before nine months passed, which is a fault. The Prophet was perfect in all aspects and had no faults; he had no faults when he was in the womb of Amina either. Shortness of the period of pregnancy is regarded as a fault in medicine. Since prophets have the attribute of ismah, they are free from such faults.
On the other hand, an approach that aims to compromise and settle the issue makes the following explanation:
“It was haram to make war in the months of Rajab, Dhulqada, Dhulhijja and Muharram before Islam and in the first years of Islam. Before Islam, Arabs used to change the places of the months in order to fight in the month of Rajab or Muharram, moving them forward or backward. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) stated the following in the Farewell Hajj when he made hajj with more than one hundred thousand Muslims:
‘O my Companions! We are performing hajj just in time. Time circulated and reached the point it started. From now on, the order of the months is the same as the time when Allah created them.’
When his father Abdullah married, the places of the months were different. The month of Rajab had been replaced by the month of Jumadal-Akhir, that is, one month earlier. Then, the transfer of the Prophet to the womb of Amina was in Jumadal-Akhir based on today’s calendar, not on the night of Raghaib in the month of Rajab.”
Therefore, the night when the Prophet was transferred into his mother’s womb seemed to be the first Friday night of the month of Rajab in the year 571 since Arabs moved the months but it was actually on the first Friday night of the month of Jumadal-Akhir. As it is known, the order of the lunar months is as follows: Muharram, Safar, Rabiul-Awwal, Rabiul-Akhir, Jumadal-Awwal, Jumadal-Akhir, Rajab, Shaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhulqada and Dhulhijja. Since the place of haram months and hence the place of Rajab were not changed after the year of Farewell Hajj, there are 280 days, which is the time period for pregnancy in medicine, between the first Friday night of the month of Jumadal-Akhir (the date when he was transferred into his mother’s womb) and the 12th of the month of Rabiul-Awwal (the date of his birth); this information is acceptable since it is incompliance with the historical knowledge mentioned above and medical knowledge. There has been no more appropriate and stronger information so far.
The explanation above is convincing and settles the issue in the possible discussions. However, is such an acceptance strong enough and original in terms of the religious foundations of the night of Raghaib? What is definite about Raghaib is this: The Prophet (pbuh) received some special manifestations, luminous grace and grants, and heavenly gifts from Allah on that night; thus, it is an opportunity for his ummah too for their prayers to be accepted and to receive similar grants. What other stronger incidents and evidences can be found if it is thought that a more important incident took place when the Messenger of Allah was in his mother’s womb related to the holiness of that night? Let us have such a journey of knowledge and thought:
In a place where Badiuzzaman Said Nursi emphasizes the holiness of Raghaib, he states that the Prophet (pbuh) honored the visible realm (the world) to a degree, in an aspect, on the night of Raghaib. It is significant that he recorded this honoring with the expression “honored the visible realm to a degree, in an aspect”; this ambiguity is due to being unable to exactly determine the first day the Prophet was transferred into his mother’s womb:
When it is calculated mathematically, the time period between the night of Raghaib, which is the first Friday night of the month of Rajab and which is said to be the first night when the Prophet was transferred into his mother’s womb, and the night when the Prophet was born (the 12th night of the month of Rabiul-Awwal) is about 8 months 10 days or 17 days. Thus, it seems to be a month fewer than normal pregnancy. If we calculate – and we must calculate – the period that the Prophet remained in his mother’s womb as 9 months 10 days like a normal person, the transfer of the Prophet into his mother’s womb must be in the last week of the month of Jumadal-Awwal.
There are preterm deliveries but there is no information in the resources of Islamic history and siyar stating that the Prophet was a premature baby. Besides, if something like that had happened, the Prophet’s blessed mother, midwife, relatives and Companions would have mentioned it. Is it possible that he was a premature baby but that this information was not widespread? Is it possible that the majority of the believers was not informed about this fact due to some reasons and wisdoms that we do not know? It is possible but we do not know whether it is probable or not; however, it is clear that is a very low possibility because those who opposed the prophethood of Hz. Muhammad (pbuh) used all of the information they had against him; they would probably have used the claim of premature birth. Besides, prophets have the attribute of ismah and they perfect in terms of creation too. Hz. Muhammad (pbuh), who is the Prophet of all prophets, cannot have been born prematurely.
The night of Raghaib coincides a time when the expected Prophet was in his mother’s womb. It is probably the cornerstone of the first phase of that important process. The night of Raghaib, which is known as the night the Prophet was transferred into his mother’s womb among people though it is contrary to the facts, is the night when Amina noticed that she was pregnant according to some scholars. Badiuzzaman Said Nursi states that the night of Raghaib is the name of the beginning of the life of progress of the Prophet. When he emphasizes the holiness of Raghaib, he states that the Prophet (pbuh) honored the visible realm (the world, in the womb) to a degree, in an aspect, on the night of Raghaib.
Let us examine those two excerpts: 1. The Night of Raghaib is the name of the beginning of the life of progress of the Prophet. 2. The Prophet (pbuh) honored the visible realm to a degree, in an aspect, on the night of Raghaib. Since the Messenger of Allah was in his mother’s womb on the night of Raghaib, something that will transform it into a holy night must have happened. It may be something that took place in his life after the prophethood; there are narrations related to it. However, in my opinion, the biggest incidence that took place in the first phase in the womb that lasted about forty days might be the incident of an angel being sent to his mother by God Almighty. His mother Amina may have noticed it when that angel was sent, or immediately after it. Badiuzzaman Said Nursi states the following related to Raghaib: “It is the name of the beginning of the life of progress of the Prophet.” Progress is something related to man’s spiritual aspect. It can be said that the organs of the body were made suitable for the spirituality and made ready for evolution and progress with that first visit.
Secondly: He says, “the night he honored the visible realm to a degree, in an aspect”. The nucleus of his physical body (DNA code, scientific program, architectural project) had reached that time before in the visible realm through his ancestors after many centuries; and this was a physical material transfer that took place in the visible realm. However, “honoring the visible realm” comes from the invisible realm. This brings to mind that before his transfer to the visible realm from the realm of spirits, his body is brought together as a whole for the first time, and his pure body, which will include his spiritual equipment, is determined and recorded by an angel.
However, the narrations related to the day when his spirit was blown into the fetus also caused different interpretations. According to a hadith narrated in the hadith books collecting sound hadiths like Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet (pbuh) stated the following while explaining the creation of man and the determination of his destiny:
"Each one of you is put together in the womb of the mother in forty days; and then it becomes an alaqah (a clot of thick blood or something hanging) for a similar period, and then a mudghah (a piece of flesh) for a similar period. Then an angel is sent; he blows spirit into it and he is ordered to write four things: the livelihood (rizq), date of death (ajal), deeds of this creature and its situation in the hereafter, that is, whether he will be a person of Paradise or Hell." (Bukhari, Bad'ul-Khalq, 6; Muslim, Qadar, 1-5).
Apart from this narration recorded in Bukhari and Muslim, there are significant differences between the narration above and different versions of the same hadith in Muslim:
a) The period of time up to the blowing of the spirit in the hadith above is 120 days but there are three different figures in the other narrations: 40, 45, 42.
b) In one of the narrations, it is stated that the eyes, ears, skin, flesh and bones were created after forty-two days and that the angel asked Allah, "a male or a female?" and then, Allah made a decree and the angel recorded it.
Accordingly, we think it would be better to interpret the narration meaning the spirit is blown in 120 days based on the other narrations differently as “within the same forty days” for each forty days and prefer the other narrations that explain the other 40 or 40 some days.
It would be appropriate to interpret that the Prophet was on the 40th or 42nd night in his mother’s womb on the night of Raghaib and that spirit was blown into the fetus on the 40th and 42nd day of the creation like every human being. Thus, it will be seen that when the Prophet (pbuh) was in his mother’s womb on the 40th or 42nd day, an angel came and determined and wrote the shape, ears, eyes, skin, flesh, bones, etc. of the fetus, and he recorded its gender, time of death and sustenance by asking Allah based on the answers He gave, then he blew the spirit into the fetus. His mother Amina may have noticed with what she was pregnant after this first bringing together and determination and after the spirit was blown.
The calling of an angel on the night when the luminous light of Muhammad was transferred into his mother’s womb:
Sahl b. Abdullah Tustari narrates:
“Allah gave an order on the night when He wished the transfer of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) into his mother’s wound: The angel that was the guard of Paradise opened the Paradise of Firdaws, and a caller called out as follows to the heavens and the earth:
“Know it very well that the luminous light of Muhammed (pbuh) settled in his mother’s womb tonight; his creation will be completed there and he will come to the world as a bashir (bringer of good tidings) and nadhir (warner).”
