Let me answer that—nothing.

You’ve wrapped a cord around me that won’t ever untangle.

It’s fused into me, your words tied tight,

words that moved me in ways both beautiful and brutal.

The only way they’ll lose meaning is if you cut that cord—

and with it, all memory of me.

But lose that, and you’ll lose the voice that kept you going,

the only thing that let you say what nothing else could.

You’re a complex of cords,

each one dependent on the others, too twisted to stand alone.

You lean on everyone to help untangle them,

but no one will.

It’s exhausting, just like loving you was.

And you have no right to entangle my cords with yours.
